My Stay was horrible . Check in too way too much time . I paid around 700 dollars for a scam of a place, The menu for the breakfast did not reflect actuality , no AC. No net on the windows in case you want to open them .Customer service was not very helpful either .
If you are looking for a do it yourself overpriced hotel , book this place , Your room is never cleaned and you have to get all your amenities by yourself. No front desk the lobby looks like it's in construction

Worst hotel in very long time

This supposedly 3 star hotel is probably one of the worst I have stayed in given the price and location. Price was over double of what it should of been. I was downgrade due to renovations but the hotel had ample opportunity to message me well ahead with this information. Room hasn’t been touched since the 80s. Lost room with not a lot of headroom and a pole in the middle of room next to the bed. TV didn’t work. Wireless average or below. I was offered a free breakfast (12 euro) so hardly anywhere near the compensation that should have been given. Steer clear of this charlatan.

Lovely hotel.only10 mins walk from centre and literally across the road from the tram stop and underground. Very helpful staff on reception. Lovely breakfast and waitress staff. Cleaners do bare minimum in room. We keep our room tidy anyway but Could of done with a dust each day. Would benefit with tea and coffee in room and some plain water as only sparkling available. Beds are soooo comfy 😍😍

Great location next to metro station and near a tram stop. Bar area was OK and staff were good. Room was big but dated with dirty carpet. Bathroom.... The shower cubicle was covered in thick black mould and grime.... I have stayed all over the world and never seen a shower cubicle in such a state.... It was that bad that my daughter refused to use it.

Television in both rooms did not work - reported on the first day but nobody came to see about it during our stay. On the first day we also reported an ashtray on our balcony that appeared to be full of sick. It was cleared the following day. Also a sex toy under the wardrobe - disgusting.
Uncomfortable in rooms as very hot with no air conditioning - but we knew this before booking. Photos of the above can be supplied. The hotel is good value for money in an ideal location. Just a shame the service and cleanliness were poor

Hotel is an old one apparently, with carpets and old-style decoration. It is okay to stay, amazing location indeed with good connections. However, the carpets need proper cleaning - they smell.

Also, the laundry stays right at the entry of the hotel, making the lounge look horrible and even darker than it is.

Avoid in the summer - far to warm.

This hotel has no air conditioning and on the hot days we were there it was very uncomfortable. In this day and age I would expect air conditioned room in the summer just as I would expect warm rooms in the winter. The fan provided in the room was very small and totally inadequate. As. Minimum I would expect 2 ceiling fans. The decor and the standard of the furnishings in the room was very good there was a small fridge but no iron, kettle or tea making facilities. In the evening we were there there was only one staff member on duty, hence we had to wait to book in until the bar guests had been served.

The location is very good, close to the Altstadt. There are public transportation systems close by but not with a direct line to the airport. A taxi to the airport was 22 Euro very reasonable.

The smart tv was not so smart!! It would not change channel and was stuck on a bible program. If you met me you would know bible bashing is not my thing......not so smart tv! Seriously, however the tv was frustrating.
The towel change man wouldn’t take come back later when we had a lie in until 9.45am one morning!!
However, desk staff very helpful and the place was very clean.

I do personally feel the owner should stay in the hotel and experience the stay, room 231 is super dirty the bathroom show, wet area is uncleared the shower heads not fitting or setting well, that room also smells n darks light not working, really looking this making the hotel a nice to to stay

Great value for a comfortable stay

The beds are incredibly comfortable. It is in a quiet area, within walking distance of the old town. Taxi from the airport is approx. €20-25. Alternatively, 3 stops on the underground from the main train station and 2 stops from the old town. Fucshsen Alt have a bar and restaurant nearby with some great, traditional German food and beer. Breakfast is approx. €20 although we visit Kamps over the road for coffee and pastry.

Stayed here for three nights while on a family trip,overall a pleasant stay,we had a room on the 5th floor,big enough for two of us,cleaned daily to a good standard.reception staff were professional,friendly and helpful.Breakfast although a bit pricey, it is all you can eat and drink ,so well worth the price.a ten minute walk through the park and you're in the Altstadt.
A few minus points,the lift is very slow and only carries three people.
The outside area on the top floor was in need of attention ie ashtray wasn't emptied for three days,some tiles had slipped from the wall,broken door handle!,although these points need attention they didn't spoil our stay.

Overall great hotel! and wifi wasn't half bad

The rooms where very clean and the bathrooms where very very nice must have been freshly renovated the only thing i had to complain about was the fact that it was a 10-15 American dollars taxi each way to the main section of the town but noting that i couldn't live with i would stay again for the price definitely. Also side note the breakfast was probably the best i had in Europe and was one of the cheapest!! Highly recommend to stay in and eat at the hotel

3 day pre xmas break with another couple. Easy access from aiport about 10-15 mins in taxi 28 euros. About 10 minute walk through park to the old town where all the xmas markets are dotted about ( made all the better because it snowed. Thoroughly enjoyed the shopping, food and bars. ( just had to keep refueling with gluwheinn due to the cold !!!! )

old furniture. noisy closet. tiny bathroom. dirty carpet. no tv channels. and I mean no tv channels at all. buffet a bit expensive based on options offered. buffet staff not helpful. ran out of brown bread and refused to bring some more saying only white bread is now available. juice was not natural at all. no milk for cereal. cheese was okay and jams too. front desk ppl are helpful and the young front desk morning lady is very friendly.

Stayed at the Novum Excelsior Feb 2017, for a football break for me & my son (19). Found the hotel easily enough taking the underground(U78/79) from the main railway staition to Nordstrasse(4th stop) then a 2 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is on a very busy and not to scenic main road but the double glazing coped with the road noise well enough but not with the road/tram works through the week. Very well situated for the Alstadt/Koniglasee,one stop on the underground or a pleasent 15 minute walk through a park. The room (floor 2) was a little compact,very clean , with good comfy beds but the dark furniture gives the room a very tired & outdated feel.The staff were 1st class always pleasent & helpfull (as the cleaning team were.

This was my first time stay in the hotel because the hotels I usually stay were not available. My biggest disappointment is that the hotel advertises have Wifi connection. But, none of the Wifi connection works. When I asked the front desk, she said that the Wifi does not work for i-phones. And, I told her my computer couldn't connect to the Wifi either. And, she showed no interest of helping or looking into it at all. One more finding, I could hear clearly every word said by the people stayed next to my room.

The stay was pitiful, to be honest. No Wi-Fi, no television, a drab room, and an uncomfortable bed. The staff was either unfriendly or comatose (we thought the one girl might have been a host from Westworld). It was if guests in the hotel were more of a nuisance than a business. It is only a short metro ride to the city center, and there are some nice things to see. For some reason, even the local pubs and restaurants were staunchly anti-internet. One tavern keeper even condescendingly replied to us by saying \"only talking here. No internet.\" It is as if the whole city does not want travelers! Very strange. Dusseldorf is not a pleasant place, and we were glad to be on the train and head to Cologne.

We have ordered Comfort room because there were 3 of us. Two adults and baby 3 yo. According to the photo on hotels web site we decided to order comfort room because we supposed that this room has more space. In reality we get a very tiny room (look like standard room based on photo on web site). Moreover this room was near elevator that is why it was really noisy. This room was so small that we have no place just for unpack our luggage.
When we show the photo on the site and asked women at the reception moved us to another room she gave us the room with windows on the very noisy street with trams and very heavy traffic. I don;t understand how it is possible to sleep in this noisy room.
If we were without our baby we would moved to another hotel but baby was tired and decided to stay.
I strongly do not recommend to stay in this hotel. The most part of the rooms are tiny and very noisy.

Great if only if water worked!!!

Booked a nice room, a suite. Clean room, mini bar area, separate tub and shower, separate sitting area in a classic hotel appointments. However I was only stay g one night leaving very early to catch a flight out. Woke up to no Cold Water and almost scalded myself in the shower. So as ked wet, I looked around the room for a phone- NO PHONE to call the front desk!
My taxi arrives for airport in 20 minutes so I had no choice but to take a \"drip shower\" n wash selectively, the water was so hot! Awful exp r ience. Soap dispenser at sink was completely dry, so had to fill a cup from the shower to wash at the basin.
Checked out, told desk that I had no Cold water at any faucet (tub, shower, sink, wet bar), had no phone to call desk, no soap at sink, and all he could do was laugh and say \"Sorry sir, we'll look into it!\" Really? I couldn't shower before a transatlantic flight, and just sorry. Sorry, your hotel gets a 2. Gets a 2 only because the room could have been a 5. My check-in receptionist was excellent, but night staff doesn't understand service or compasion.

Overall very good value for a 3 star hotel; I had a comfort double room and there was lots of space, good quality bed, desk with comfy arm chair. There was free wifi, but between 8pm and 11pm it was almost unusable because all hotel guests were trying to stream etc. at the same time so the connection was too slow to load most things. But in the mornings/ during the day/ after 11pm, there was pretty good wifi connectivity. The area around the hotel is great and it's a short U-bahn ride to the main train station, so overall high points for accessibility and location. I wouldn't particularly recommend this hotel for families with small children; one night there was a group of guests that seemed rather coarse.

The hotel is reasonably priced and centrally located. Just be mindful that there are no 'comforts' ie kettle, tea, coffee etc. There is water in the room but I hadn't noticed that it's comes at a cost of 4 euros. The room was very hot and stuffy. I managed to get a fan from reception but I had to keep it all 24/7. One particular member of staff was extremely helpful. You can easily get the underground or walk into the centre with about 15 mins.

I have stayed many times at Hotel Excelsior, before it became Novum Excelsior.
Somethings have changed..The mini bars have been taken out of the rooms, I like to have cold juices etc, available in my room. The breakfast buffet was and is still very good if the new owners don't change anything!
The room was incredibly small.

A splendid hotel

My room was spacious and well furnished, with double glazing blocking all the noise from a busy road outside. The bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom was also roomy, with a non-slip shower/bath base. For breakfast the range of food offered was more than adequate, both hot and cold, and accompanied by ample supplies of coffee.The dining room itself was a joy to behold, with its light brown tables and chairs and pristine tablecloths. Each and every member of staff was helpful and cheerful, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel.

I checked out a number of hotels online before booking and the price for the value seemed to be best for the Excelsior and my hunch worked out! Nice place, 15 minute or less walk to Altstadt, clean rooms, quiet hotel, really good breakfast, friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice hotel without having to pay a ridiculous amount.

If you have a car you have to park across the street at the parking garage. It's around 17 euro a night so that part wasn't so fun but if you've been to Europe before you'll know that parking in the cities is always at a premium. You might be able to drive around and find a spot along the street but it was pretty full everywhere. Not the hotels fault though.

Great value good quality hotel. Although the room was clearly not the latest styling the condition of it was still very good. The bath tiles are actually so out of date they may even be back in fashion! Very helpful staff, neat system on the Wifi log-in for requesting things such as irons etc. Would definitely stay again. Walking distance to the Altstadt.

Central location.

Arrived by train, used U bahn to Nord Str. This station in conveniently located next to the hotel.
Arrival was and book in was excellent. Staff were brilliant. Although there was clearly some refurb taking place, this did not affect my stay. The room was excellent, 109, is to the rear of the building which I was grateful for; the emergency services appear to use the route outside the front as a main Rd to calls for service!
Breakfast was excellent, however don't expect full English. I love continental breakfast and was left very satisfied with the food each day... and coffee was outstanding.
The hotel is a 15 walk to the old town, or one stop on the U bahn.
Locally, there is an outstanding little bar called café florian. Good food and beer, recommend .

I will use again.

Hotel good, excellent walking distance from the old town through the park (no problem walking through the park at night). Found the hotel too hot in all area's. Had to have the bedroom window open for fresh air (lucky we were not street facing). Could hear guests in next bedroom, but once you had ear plugs in, no problem. Would recommend this hotel if staying in Dusseldorf. Easy for taxi to airport (approx. 20-25 euro's).

A very pleasant stay in Dusseldorf

This hotel was a perfect base near to (but not in) the Altstadt and a short walk to the main shopping area. The hotel was a short taxi ride from the main railway station (approx 7 euros) and the Nordstrasse U-bahn station is a 30 sec walk away. Upon arrival we were greeted by a pleasant member of staff who spoke v good English and allowed us to check in early. He also gave us a map of local area and a brief overview of nearby attractions. We arrived at the room to find it was still being cleaned, however, so headed to the bar for a drink; this was reasonably priced and complimentary snacks were provided. The hotel has free unlimited wifi for all guests.

The room was reasonable size, had a good bathroom (shower, no bath) and a large TV with 2-3 English news channels. A safe was available for a 1 euro deposit. I found the decor of the room and the whole hotel a refreshing change from the many \"chains\" that I stay in in the UK. It has a cosy individuality and I liked it - it was scrupulously clean. The room was warm and at no point did any exterior noise e.g. traffic become noticeable, although, I did hear noise from adjoining rooms but this wasn't excessive.

Breakfast was buffet style and consisted usual bacon, sausage and eggs etc alongside continental style and chilled meats. A large selection of drinks were available including coffee, tea and juice.

Checkout was straightforward and the hotel helpfully arranged a taxi to the station for us on departure.

Boutique hotel with great breakfast

Hotel is a 10 or 15 minute walk from downtown Dusseldorf, which was relatively easy to find. The surrounding area was under heavy construction during our visit, which took away from the scenery. Great breakfast. Cute boutique hotel with a cozy lobby and spacious rooms. It was a great deal for the price.

Clean and comfortable

This is a nice hotel about an easy 15 minute walk to the Altstadt. There are good transport links nearby if you don't like walking. It is also very close to the park. The staff are extremely helpful and polite. Rooms are spotlessly clean and include a large flat screen TV, trouser press and mini bar. We were lucky and had a room that had just had a new bathroom fitted. Breakfast is standard fare with cold meats, cheeses, breads, hot food and cereals all well presented and great value when included in the room rate. I will definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Dusseldorf.

nice short stay

The hotel is old but renew. the room a bit small but convenience and clean.Also, close to the old town and shopping. no air condition but not need it because I stay in 2nd of May and the weather was cold. The breakfast was good.no parking in the hotel but there is parking close to the hotel cost 17 euro per day. Noting dislike. overall, I have good stay for one night.

Would not go back here

I was quite annoyed as I could not get good sleep at this hotel. Every morning at around 8 people would start banging on the floor above us. I called front desk and asked them what that noise was and they told me it was maintenance work being carried out. I stayed in the hotel for 4 nights and this noise was all 4 days and would start at exactly 8 in the morning and continue all day. What annoyed me more was when I called front desk to tell them this and ask them if they could stop the work and do it later in the day they very rudely told me that they cannot. I told them I could not sleep and they said thats not their problem and that i had all night to sleep. So i told them i came back really late at around 5AM and went to bed and have slept for little over 2 hours only. But they said thats not their problem if I did not sleep in the night. I have stayed in many hotels and have never experienced hotel staff this rude instructing me about my sleep schedule. I will never go back to this hotel even if they give me a free room.

Difficult to beat

Perfect location for our purposes. Even got street parking opposite the hotel (Sunday night to Monday morning). Kunstpalast 10 minutes walk, Altstadt 15 minutes. Courteous, competent staff. Elegant public rooms. Excellent room facilities, and we overlooked the garden, so it was quiet. Superb breakfast buffet. Would return there like a shot.

Excelsior - Excels in location and superb service

The service couldn't have been better. I was running the Dusseldorf marathon so had requested porridge specially and earlier than normal Sunday start - not a problem.
Generally service extremely good and friendly.
Hotel near the local park and underground/ trams and within easy walking distance of the old town (through the pretty park).
Room clean and comfortable with chocolate bars and juice carton left each day free of charge.
If I go back to Dusseldorf would stay here.

Great assistance with city details

We arrived in Dusseldorf at 6am and at Excelsior at 8am with a check in time in the afternoon. Although the hotel was full they allowed us to shower and change in a vacated room so we could conduct business this day.

We got some excellent advice about dining in Dusseldorf. Unfortunately we had to depart sooner than our paid reservation with no credit since it was billed via Expedia.

Friendly and very helpful staff. Superb breakfast, quiet bar and well appointed bedrooms. The hotel was imaculately clean and is in a very convenient location. The one downside it has no air conditioning and it was a hot weekend when we stayed.

* Zimmer war nicht wirklich sauber (Haargummis hinter der Tür, alte Kaffeekapseln in der Maschine);
* Klimaanlage mit Schlauch, die man aus dem angekippten Fenster führen muss sind unsinnig und umweltschädlich;
* die Lage ist vielleicht praktisch, aber der Lärmpegel die ganze Nacht bei geöffnetem Fenster nahezu unerträglich - die Ohrstöpsel auf dem Nachttisch sagen wohl alles;
* ungastliche Lobby, mit vergitterten Bereichen - Urlaub in Guantanamo?
