Overall the stay was ok - the bathroom is modern - but it smells due to the lack of ventilation - the size of the bathroom is probably more for smaller people - at just under 1.90m I didn't feel very comfortable. The corridors clearly show that this hotel was built years ago - the flooring in the room could do with some renovation.
The staff are friendly and the breakfast buffet is what you would expect from Mercure hotels.
The car park is also fine.

No air conditioning

Hotel was great but the air conditioning wasn’t working. For the two nights we were there we didn’t have it. The room got very stuffy even with the window open. It rained the second night so we couldn’t open it all the way. Otherwise room was very clean and staff were very nice.

The stay in general was good, room was clean, the hotel a bit older, but after check-out I was shocked about the price for the breakfast. Hadn‘t realized it during booking/check-in. Until the prize for breakfast (40 €) will not at least be decreased by 50% I will not book again for that place.

Tired hotel and poor service

I have been staying at this hotel for many years and get the feeling it’s looking tired now, and needs a makeover. The bed was very hard and not very comfortable.
Biggest issue was the service - tried using the phone to ask reception to book a taxi, phone wasn’t working. Should the cleaning team not check that everything is working in the room? I told the reception staff about the phone but they told me I had to scan a qr code and fill out a request for it to be repaired on some website. I did this, and received an email later that day saying “solved” but with a message saying actually it was not fixed because there were other more urgent issues to be fixed that day. The email mentioned I could ask for a wireless phone if needed but why not just put the wireless phone in the room as a solution? Why make me have to do yet another step to get a resolution to what ultimately was a small and meaningless issue but handled very badly by the hotel. Left a very bad feeling about this hotel and i probably won’t stay here again. Time for a change!

Loved the place. Easy to find being next to Europaplatz. Large carpark, immaculate good sized room with comfy bed. TV with huge selection of stations and even a gift of chocolate and nuts! Breakfast was good too. Will definitely look to stay again on my next trip to Aachen

The hotel was clean, well equipped and quiet. Friendly staff and well behaved fellow guests made the whole experience very pleasant and relaxing. The breakfast was amazing. I wished I’d brought my swimsuit, the pool looked very inviting. Having a garden to relax in was a real bonus.

Visit spoiled by smell.

The hotel looked very smart, foyer impressive apart from a terrible smell like drains or toilet smell which permeated the building. Our room on the first floor also smelt. Receptionist said she couldn't smell it. Hotel full so couldn't move rooms. Smell wasn't resolved throughout our two night stay.
Beforehand, had series of annoying emails about taking pets, parking charges, and worryingly asking to put in an email a credit card number to guarantee room booking if arriving late, even though room was prepaid. Hotels.com advice is never to do this, so I refused. This was disturbing to say the least.
However, the room was very nice, bed comfortable and bedding clean. Lovely bathroom. Just a shame these other points spoiled this stay.

Excellent considering the difficulties.

Good clean hotel at a reasonable price. Due to Covid the restaurant was only serving pizzas but under the difficult circumstances of Covid the hotel did the best they could. The room was clean and comfortable. The shower in the bathroom was superb!

Receptionist was excellent. Gave us very good info on eateries if the town. Room was very good. Breakfast was expensive and disappointing: too many gadgets (machine for making poor coffee, squeezing oranges and delivering little pats of butter on your plate); too little service.

The hotel staff were very nice, helpful and gave the best service they could provide.
The toilet button was broken and had to be fixed.
In Germany there are still quarantine limitations and wearing a mask is required. Without mas you won't be checked in. Please take it with you, or purchase one from hotel desk 2,5EUR/each. Inside hotel, movement allowed only with mask. Inside the pull max of 4 people allowed.

Last minute booking outside of Aachen

Plans changed and we needed a room - everything was booked but we finally found the Mercure Hotel Aachen Europaplatz. Food from the bar was good (we ate in our room) Everything was clean and we slept well. Very good find!!

Comfortable overnight stay, would return anytime

Overnight stop on the way back to the UK. Arrived late, friendly and quick check-in. Room was clean and spacious, had been updated and happy with facilities. Comfortable beds for a good nights sleep. Didn’t have breakfast as left early the next day but would definitely book again when passing by.

Very comfortable stay in a good sized well equipped room. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of dishes including cooked breakfast. Didn't eat here in the evening, although the menu looked reasonable as well as the prices. In good weather the pool and outside seating for having a drink would be attractive.Plenty of open air car parking space though it is chargeable at 8 Euros per night - some websites when I was booking showed it as being free. It is a little way from the town centre - about 20 minutes walk and there is not a great deal locally but it is a good base for travelling around the area. I would certainly stay here again if I needed a room in this area.

Mercure, a dissapointment

After arriving at the remote, boring location where the Mercure is located, there was no warm welcome from the reception staff. Questions like: 'How was your trip?' or 'If there's anything I can do for you, we're right here' was the least I expected. I travelled with my baby girl and had to ask twice for a crib. At night I wanted to order roomservice but the menu in the room was really limited. I went to the restaurant for more options but the waiter wasn't really helpful at first. He had to ask the kitchen if it was possible to get something else delivered to the room. It was possible and I said I could wait for the food and take it to the room myself. Suddenly the waiter apologized for the waiting and offered a beer. He also wanted to help me to bring the food to my room. I thought: that's a little too late to be polite. Also check out was mediocre. Nothing like: 'How was your stay?' or 'We hope to see you again'. I would only recommend it because it is pretty close to the center (12 minutes by car).

Overall a good hotel

Very nice hotel overall. I personally found the bed uncomfortable and the shower flooded the bathroom but otherwise it was a nice room. About a 10 minute drive from the centre of Aachen but easy to find and means it's nice and quiet.

Aachen is about 2.5 hours drive from Amsterdam & we planned an overnight trip to visit. Nice location. We prefer staying at
Hotels just outside of the center so activity level is reduced yet easily accessible. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly. Well worth the money for sure,

Convenient and close to downtown

The hotel is very easy to arrive by car, has ample paid parking and is about 2km to the city center. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable, their is a bar and restaurant (breakfast was quite good) and finally the internet is great.

Quality Hotel

We were relieved, if not surprised, to find the staff spoke good English. We had a good night's sleep - the beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. The breakfast was also excellent and we regret not having dinner in the hotel in retrospect. Parking was fairly safe. Downside? The bath towels were rather small and wi-fi was not good before 22.00. It's also a bit further from the centre than I would have liked so we drove and parked in the centre to see the wonderful Cathedral and Treasury.

Worst. Pillows. Ever.

Just so-so. The pillows were all lumpy and very soft, like they were stuffed with small clumps of cotton. The bathroom towels were very cheap and thin. Most obnoxiously, they offer \"free wifi\" but slow it down tremendously to make you consider upgradingfor yet more euros.

It is a good 25-minute walk to the cathedral, but don't miss it...it is glorious and worth any effort to get there!

Food great but room not quite up to scratch

We had a third bed in the room which made it extremely compact. Two single duvets on the double bed was bizarre and the pillows were lumpy and half size, which I wouldn't expect from the standard of hotel. Breakfast buffet was very good although was lacking orange juice. Couldn't find any ordinary tea and they didn't have any pain au chocolate or much fresh fruit left by the Sunday either. The breads and cheeses were very tasty though and the scrambled egg and bacon were great too. The dinner buffet was really good value. The main courses were delicious and had lots of choice. Bit of a hike into the centre of Aachen but was down a busy road and felt perfectly safe.

I think their location is good if you drive a car.

OK hotel - not the best location

Hotel is ok. Staff was friendly. I was disappointed to find that the only pool they have is an outside one, and is very (too) close to the bar/terrasse area. I did not feel like walking around lots of people having their drink/diner in my swimming gears so I gave the swim a skip.Air cond was not efficient in my room. Breakfast was very good. You have to pay for the car park on top of your room price (very skinflint from a well known hotel brand). Overall: Average stay.

Easy to find, short drive to city center

Easy access from the motorway with lots of parking. Parking is paid at the hotel for a reasonable fee. Access to the city center can be accomplished with public transportation or 10 min drive. Nice business trip

The hotel looks a bit ugly form outside but it is great inside for a business trip. Very comfortable beds. Absolutely excellent breakfast, whether you like healthy fruit and cereals, nice cold meats and cheese or the full english - all was excellent! Very nice restaurant for dinner as well - delicious menu and with a good selection of food to give you a break of really heavy business lunches. Waiters could speak better english though, and if the restaurant is busy, very likely you will wait a very very long time. Wi fi is paid which - In the XXI century I cannot understand why wi fi is not considered an essential service, just like have sheets on the bed!

This is a nice hotel for an overnight stop over. It is a little bit out of the way though if you want to see attractions like the Dom. There is a charge for breakfast & the internet, also a 5 euro charge for parking if you are driving.The breakfast is 15 with the internet. .

Good, clean hotel conveniently located

Enjoyed our overnight stay, room clean and fairly large. Location good, easy to drive to and park at and only a 20 minute walk to the centre of the city. Would definitely stay again when visiting the city.

As a solo traveller in a car, I booked this hotel for the convenience of the car parking. The hotel is in the outer suburbs of Aachen, so as a tourist I needed a car and I accepted that I was not going to be in central Aachen and close to restaurants and sights. It worked for me - the restaurant on site is perfectly adequate, the room was clean and quiet and comfortable, hotel access is amazing for getting in and out and onto motorways, and the parking was secure and cheap. If you want to be in central Aachen and close to sights and shops and stuff, this hotel isn't for you, if you don't have a car, it is a difficult spot for getting around, but as an autotourist it worked well for me.

Hotel down a side road, which looks a bit seedy. Wouldn't have been happy leaving my car on the road (and we aren't that precious about cars), so paying for the hotel car park is a must.

The hotel itself was clean and efficient. Just what we needed for an overnight stop.

Expensive breakfast, rest is AOK!

We stayed one night at this hotel, 2 adults and a baby. We brought our own baby bed, so didn't bother asking for a crib. There was enough space in our room to set the crib. Relatively it was a spacious room.

Breakfast was 16 euro per person. We didn't even consider buying it, it is really expensive. Restaurant was looking very good and modern though. As well as the lobby, which has a comfortable sofa, and newspapers to read.

There is a small pool located at the back of the hotel, by the restaurant. And a slide for kids to enjoy next to it.

Parking is 5euro per day.

Bathrooms were very clean and they are nicely decorated, very modern. Bed sheets were also nice and clean.

There is no free internet.

Overall, it was a good choice. It was easy to find, there were signs on the street indicating the hotel location.

Mercure Europaplatz in Aachen

Mercure Europaplatz in Aachen is located near the centre of the city. Unfortunately this does not mean that the hotel is simple to reach by public traffic. If you are travelling by car there is no problem, as there are many free parking places. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is quite expensive and not that good. Wall music all around (too loud and of bad taste) is a pity. Therefore the personnel is friendly and the breakfast is excellent (taste the home made yoghurt!).

Very nice hotel

Was staying there in end of august for the Belgian F1 gp, it is a very nice place with huge parking lot (although paid). Nice and friendly staff, very good restaurant and clean rooms. The only wish i had for the hotel is to have a free WiFi internet.
