The Hotel Oceanside was very nice. That being said: Our room did not have an Ocean view. The snack Mart was Cash Only. And the deposit was the most I’ve ever had at a hotel… BUT! It was close to literally everything and overall was pretty nice. I think a lot of people may like this hotel because it is animal friendly. I think it’s great if you’re traveling with pets!! But if you and your spouse wanna little get away… it’s alright.

The door did not sit right, and let light in around the entire frame. The toilet was not cleaned. The staff at the front desk took photocopies of our drivers license and credit card, that was claimed to be “shredded later”. It was not a great experience, and we will not be repeating the visit.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Oceanside and would absolutely return. The location was incredibly convenient—and right off the freeway, making it extremely easy to find. Parking was free and conveniently located behind the hotel, which made arrival and departure effortless.

Even though I didn’t have a pet during the stay, I appreciated that the hotel is pet friendly and I saw doggy bags available in the lot.

Check-in was smooth and welcoming thanks to Mia, who was both efficient and genuinely friendly. I stayed in Room 201, which I would definitely request again. The room was spacious, exceptionally quiet, and impressively clean—both the bedroom and bathroom were spotless. One of the standout surprises was the excellent water pressure in the shower, something that made the stay even more comfortable. I appreciated that there were quality toiletries available.

I also appreciated the thoughtful in-room amenities, including a refrigerator, sink, microwave, and coffee maker, which made the stay feel more convenient and home-like. The linens were fresh and immaculate, and the room was so clean that I didn’t even feel the need to use the slippers I had brought with me. Tip your housekeeper!

One of my favorite moments was sleeping with the window open and enjoying the refreshing ocean breeze, even on a cool 52° evening. The peaceful atmosphere made for a restful night’s sleep. Overall, this was a quiet, comfortable, and very pleasant stay, and I would happily book here again.

Pros: The front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Cons: For $130+ per night, this stay fell short of expectations. The hot water wasn't adequately hot during our stay, and there was no breakfast included despite the room rate. We also received a call about being 2 minutes late for checkout (11:02 AM), which felt excessive considering check-in wasn't available until 3 PM.
We've stayed at 3-star hotels that offered better amenities and service for less money. For this price point, I'd expect functional hot water at minimum and ideally a continental breakfast.

the staff was super friendly, the parking lot and the room were both really nice and the bed was super comfortable too. the only problem was the state of the room when we got into it. the restroom door looked like it had been hit a few times and the hinge on the top of it was bent and all out of sorts, it had even did damage to the bathroom door too. the hook on the inside of the door was also loose and crooked but i straightened it at least. i didnt mention anything cause the rest of the room was super nice and i didnt wanna make it a big deal since i paid a good price for all the nights i was there. besides that, it was a great stay and id love to return when im able to.

The gentleman at the front in the mornings was not very helpful. Parking lot was fully empty and said there was no early checkin. The room itself was nice clean. Staff could use some work

From the other reviews the hotel seemed like it was going to be an up kept cozy place to stay. When we arrived the entrance doors were broken and you had to manually force the automatic sliding doors open and the other side doors were completely closed off you were only allowed to use the broken front entrance, which was the first downside to the stay, we asked the counter staff what time the jacuzzi closed but that’s not an amenity they even have anymore, so then when we got to the room it wasn’t as new as the pictures lead us to believe lots of cracks in the restroom possible mold and the tub looked like someone had been standing in it with dirty feet, later on when we saw the front desk staff we had asked about breakfast and he said they start breakfast at 7:30 so the next morning when we woke up to go to breakfast the morning shift employee said no they don’t do breakfast they only hand out granola bars. It’ll we tried to stay positive and we do only stay one night but if we knew what the stay was really going to be we would have chose somewhere else.

The room was fantastic big, clean, i wasvery surprised that it came with a microwave sink and mini fridge. No smell of smoke. The toiletries were nice, and the makeup remover wipe was cool. Only complaint is the tv kept turning on everytime someone moved at night in bed.

The room was okay but the pillows were like small couch pillows and was only given three so made for an uncomfortable night sleep.
The cable was really bad and made the tv glitch every 2 seconds. Eventually it told us the connection was lost and told us to unplug it.
We noticed there was toilet paper already in the toilet when we arrived and while showering we noticed a red blood stain on the shower curtain.

The hidden cash deposit if you stay over 3 nights is horrid idea, the sliding front doors were broken and had to be manually forced open and squeezed through, and everything else was as much a poor choice as the fake balconies. The owner doesn't deserve your money, nor this place your time.

Everyone who works here are nice. Yes the place is dated but it's clean. No bed bugs or roaches. If you want more coffee they will give you more packets. The direct tv is ok. I bring my roku and it's way better than the direct tv. I had to stay here as my home is being renovated. I will always recommend

HORRIBLE. Don’t even bother if you have a service animal. They WILL find a way to try to charge you the pet fee and if you refuse, as is your right legally, they will cancel your reservation.

I was asked upon checking in if there were any animals with me (which means they didn’t know, nor was there a fee on my reservation to begin with) and when I confirmed I had a service animal, there was strange behavior from the front desk. (Calling and texting someone.) She then told me she was trying to get the pet fee removed for me. After a few more texts and a strange call, the front desk phone rang and I was handed the phone — also strange.

A woman who called herself Rosemary, told me that she wasn’t near a computer right at the moment and couldn’t remove the pet fee so I would have to pay it and then wait for a refund. As I spoke to her, I read from their lobby check-in policy slip and told her I had the proper check in amount ($200) and only ESA animals weren’t excluded from the fee, so there shouldn’t even be a service fee for me. Furthermore, that fee must have been added since I’d arrived (since I had to tell them about my service dog), so surely someone had the power to remove it as well.

At that point the entire conversation turned aggressive on their end and “Rosemary” told me if I didn’t pay the fee she would cancel my reservation AND she “saw my license and I shouldn’t have a driver’s license if I have a service dog, I should have only an ID.”

Stay somewhere else.

The hotel was very clean and appeared to be newly renovated. The rooms are spacious and we were surprised to have a microwave, refrigerator and bar sink in our room. The location is great for walking to the harbor or pier, if you don’t mind walking. The only thing that was a bit alarming was a few lots down was a boarded up hotel. This has attracted homeless folks that hang out in the area. But other than that it was a good place to stay and the price was great for a few nights stay near the beach.

Really nice room. Clean. The ladies that cleaned came by and kept the room spotless. Great price and location. Center of Oceanside CA. Only one gripe. The windows didn’t keep loud noise out. Heavy traffic. Choose a room closer to the back. I had one right up front to the street and well it was loud when someone drove by or the police sirens went off. Still great spot.

Hotel Oceanside – Honest Review After a Weekend Stay

I’m giving Hotel Oceanside 4 out of 5 stars because while my overall stay was clean, quiet, and safe, there were several important details that guests should be aware of before booking.

1. Pet-Friendly Policy Not Honored for Service Animals
The listing states that service animals are exempt from pet fees, but when I arrived, I was still charged for my service dog. The staff made it clear that their policy does not follow what is posted on Expedia, which was an unexpected and disappointing surprise.

2. $200 Deposit Per Room
If you book multiple rooms, expect to pay a $200 deposit for each one. The hotel encourages paying this in cash, but if you choose to put it on a card, the hold remains for 3–5 business days. This information was not listed during booking, and it caused some confusion during check-in.

3. Dining Room Completely Closed & Unwelcoming
Breakfast is no longer offered post-COVID, but the old breakfast area hasn’t been repurposed. The entire room is shut down, empty, and honestly feels uninviting for guests. I suggested to the staff that it could be turned into a lounge area with couches or comfortable seating to make the hotel feel more welcoming. The front desk said they would pass my feedback to the owner.

Let’s start by saying the parking lot is small. I tried to check in early was told I couldn’t, nothing available. So came back after 3:00 pm and front desk lady was rude. Clearly not sober. Got my room. Not very clean.
Tried to get late check out and was told only til 11:45am. Deposit was higher than any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Will not ever stay here again. False advertising on the website.

The Hotel Oceanside was perfect for my business trip to work at the Breeders Cup at Del Mar. I enjoyed the quiet, spacious comfortable room. Plenty of table and countertop space as well as more than enough drawers. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the water pressure in the shower. But the price and convenience surely made up for it.
