I can't say enough good things about this property. It was such a pleasant surprise. It was very clean, I felt very safe, the staff was extremely helpful, the breakfast that they serve was great, the location where you can walk to everything was ideal and to top it off March was very warm and we able to enjoy sunbathing. The fire pits by the pool and watching the sunset was perfect....love this hotel!!!

I had a courtyard room that also gave me a beautiful view of the beach from our balcony. The staff was more than accommodating and even gave my son a note and gift after he got engaged on the beach. I would 100% return this beautiful property again!

This is the only Carlsbad hotel on the beach. All the rooms face the ocean, some are fronting the beach. It has comfortable seating spaces around the pool. It is walking distance to dinning and coffee houses. The total ambiance is outstanding.

I recently stayed at Beach Terrace for one night with my family and unfortunately the experience was disappointing from the moment we arrived.

When we got to the front desk to check in, we had to wait while staff checked in another guest, which was understandable. However, after waiting patiently, multiple guests who arrived after us were helped before we were. Even a family who walked in later was taken ahead of us, which was frustrating and set a negative tone right from the start.

I asked about upgrading to an ocean view room and was offered a room for an additional $100 that barely had a view at all. On top of that, I had booked a room with two queen beds, and they tried to offer a one-king bed room instead, which didn’t make sense for a family stay.

Once we got to the room, the beds did not appear to be true queen size and the room had a strong unpleasant odor. The air conditioning did not cool properly, and some areas of the room did not seem clean.

We tried to make the best of the evening since we were only staying one night. Later in the evening, after I had taken a shower and was simply walking around the room while my family watched TV, we received a noise complaint and someone knocked on our door. We were not being loud at all — just normal movement in the room. It was surprising and honestly upsetting to be approached about noise when we were simply settling in for the night. It made the stay uncomfortable and took away from what was supposed to be a relaxing.

The room was so nicely decorated. Felt so welcoming, warm and cozy. The furnished patio was INCREDIBLE. The beachfront right there at your door and balcony was the most calming and peaceful. The room was very spacious as well. Property was lovely as well! Check in was a breeze and the staff was very friendly!!

Beach Terrace is one of my favorite places to stay - anywhere! The setting on the beach is phenomenal. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. I love their Apothia toiletries and the fact that there is a hot water kettle in the room. Tea drinkers are often overlooked, so this is a nice touch. Breakfast is a nice surprise every day as they rotate the unique selections. They have a great variety. The chia pudding is my favorite! Aside from being on the beach, the hotel is also right in the village of Carlsbad, just blocks from great shopping and restaurants. It’s an easy walk into town or down the coast, but it’s also a quiet location away from traffic and crowds. The pool area is nice and relaxing and has fire pits and blankets for sitting out at night. If I had only one suggestion, it would be to please bring back the traditional white bath robes. They switched to these beach ponchos in the rooms that are very impractical. It’s not the same experience. Other than that, it’s absolutely perfect. It’s always sad to leave!

Wonderful Stay at Beach Terrace Hotel, Carlsbad

We had a perfect stay at the Beach Terrace Hotel in Carlsbad. The staff was exceptionally kind and welcoming, especially the front desk team, who truly have an eye for detail and provide outstanding service. Every interaction made us feel valued and well cared for.

The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained, which added greatly to our experience. The location is beautiful and relaxing, making it an ideal place to unwind.

We loved our stay at Beach Terrace! My husband and I stayed there with our two children in January 2026. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The beach valet was such an awesome perk! Our kids loved playing with the beach toys and it was so nice to have somewhere comfortable to sit with the chairs and umbrella. It did seem like there weren’t many other children at the hotel the same time as us, hopefully we didn’t kill the vibe for the other guests. The hotel and its views are beautiful. Highly recommend!

The breakfast was a nice surprise - a variety of tasty things to try including fresh fruit and bakery items.
Although we had an issue with our shower, it was fixed in good time.

From the gourmet breakfast offered in the morning to the yoga mats and other amenities included in the room and on the beach, you cannot go wrong. Don’t miss the sunset with a hot apple cider and a warm Mexican blanket courtesy of the property.

If you’re looking for a nice long walks along a beautiful coast with a brief of pelicans gliding across the waves and the sea spraying its waves, the sea foam seasoning by your feet. This is it.

Your are steps away from Carlsbad Village, where you will find a great chill California vibe with healthy food options, and nice local shops.

December is ideal to visit as the morning coffee walk requires a jacket and by 10 you are on the beach in flip flops takingbinbthe warm sun.

The entire staff was incredibly kind and courteous. Amanda was especially helpful and it was lovely to see her in the mornings.

Would definitely come back and I don’t often do that.

The staff is very friendly, the breakfast is amazing, and what I loved the most is the view and proximity to the beach. The facilities are also clean. This is a family friendly hotel. Very quiet and pleasant atmosphere. My only complaint would be that my AC wasn’t working properly. I didn’t really need it until my last day, and when I tried turning it on, it didn’t turn on right away. But aside from this, I enjoyed my stay and I would stay here again.

Overall a good experience. Staff was friendly and helpful, the beach and pool were great and stress-free. We had a sliding door issue that was resolved in about 10 minutes. My only real complaint was that the expedia listing said the room slept 4, but only had a single bed, so we needed to get two rollaway beds and they were an extra charge for each. For the price of the stay, at least the first should be included, but I'd rather the listing be clarified.

Beach Terrace made our trip effortless, thanks to attentive staff who checked in on us and handled every request with a smile. The rooms were nicely remodeled, clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed. We loved the beach setup; having chairs and umbrellas on-site every day was incredibly convenient. We had such a wonderful stay at Beach Terrace! The rooms were super comfortable, the views were gorgeous, and the location is quiet but perfectly walkable to everything. We especially loved the pool area and that they set up chairs and umbrellas right on the beach for guests—such a nice perk that made our time so relaxing.

A couple of little things that could make it even better: the bathroom lighting wasn’t great, so a light-up mirror with magnification would be amazing. And it would have been nice to be able to sit by the pool while waiting for our room to be ready. They told us we weren’t allowed to enjoy the hotel pool or beach areas until we checked in which left us a couple of hours to kill offsite when we would have liked to relax a bit while we waited for our room.

Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to come back

A lovely boutique hotel right on Carlsbad’s superb beach, with amazing views & sunsets. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean, tastefully decorated and with all necessities. Complimentary breakfast was delicious and a new surprise each day. Beach chairs, umbrellas and toys are provided. Stairways between rooms, pool, & beach may present a problem for elderly or disabled (only one of the three buildings has an elevator). I recommend the rooms with ocean views.

This is a beautiful hotel on the sand. Beautiful rooms, staff, pool area with fire pits, beach staff that set up chairs and umbrellas on the beach free of charge (but tip), delicious breakfast delivered to your door if you order.
Been coming here since before it was remodeled 15 years ago .
I have traveled extensively throughout the world and yet this hotel remains my happy place💜☀️⛱️

awesome property right on the beach. Pool located on the deck above the beach hit it as well. Guest can enjoy the fire pits along the pool. plenty of amenities to enjoy such as complementary breakfast every morning or your option to have breakfast in bed. The staff was always a text away and ready to help at any time. We also enjoyed writing the complementary bikes as we rode through Carlsbad Village. Which is walking distance from the hotel. We enjoyed your stay we’ll be telling friends and family about the property.

Beach Terrace Inn is our favorite inn in Carlsbad. We've been a loyal customer for over 14 years. We love the convenience to the town, the beach. However, this past trip we encountered problems with housekeeping. They're definitely understaffed. We don't know whether it's due to the higher minimum wage in California or the increase in immigration enforcement but they had problems keeping up, We even had one day when there was no housekeeping, We had to go to the front desk to get fresh towels.
