We stayed in an interior view room, the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. However, the old A/C was super noisy and disrupted everyone’s sleep. We asked for staff to look into it but whatever they did (if anything) did not help. Also, the breakfast was bare minimum quality - fresh waffles were good but the rest - bacon, sausage, boiled eggs, cereal left a lot to be desired on quality. There was fresh fruit and yogurt that was good.
There are a lot of places to eat close by so not the end of the world but definitely didn’t meet expectations.

I love that the facility is terrorist and each room on the outside has a balcony, which is where I ate breakfast each morning. If I stay there again I try to get a front-facing room of the ocean as the view is incredible but there's also a third story observation deck for the view as well. The facility is older but very well maintained and the staff is on it. You can't ask for a better location to me as I could just go across the street and either walk on the beach or walk on the sidewalk above the beach for Miles if I wanted to. The only downside was that someone kept smoking on their patio outside and it blew towards my patio and took away from my enjoyment. The front desk that they would call him but I imagine that something hard to control but it's supposed to be a non-smoking inside and out facility.

The beds are not comfortable, they are very hard and hurt your back. The shower head is way to low. My husband is 6ft and the shower did not work for him. The room smelled a little musty. We stay there because of the location and access to the beach, but we may have to say elsewhere because of this things.

We loved our first time stay! Great place for a family reunion or get away! The amenities were nice to have so many options from swimming, 2 jacuzzi’s, 3 bbq grills, roof top sun deck & a viewing deck! It was fun to play ping pong & pool as well as enjoy the quiet library. Best of all it was right across the street from the beach and walking to many shops in Carlsbad Village! Thank you.

I love the location, all you have to do is walk across the street and you are at the beach. I selected the room with a beach view. It was nice sitting on the balcony and watching the sunsets. They do offer a breakfast, but the items are limited. The property is also within walking distance to the village with shops and restaurants. If you are there on a Wednesday you can also check out the farmers market. They also have secured parking at no charge which was a plus. The building is older but everything is kept very clean. This is the second time I have stayed here and I plan on staying there again.

Hello,

I am requesting a refund for our Hotels.com booking at Tamarack in Carlsbad, with check-in scheduled for Friday, May 22.

When we arrived to check in, the hotel manager told us that our reserved room had accidentally been given to the wrong people. We were told this happened because we arrived late, but our room should have been held under our confirmed reservation. The check-in manager admitted that the hotel had given our room away.

The room we were eventually given did not match the room description from our booking. It was located right by the elevators, where there was constant noise throughout our stay. The air-conditioning unit was extremely loud, and the room itself was filthy. It felt like we were placed in whatever room was left only because the hotel had to cover for the fact that our original reserved room had been given away. There was NO view, NO patio, and No frills.

This was not the room or experience we paid for, and the hotel’s own staff acknowledged the original room was given to someone else. Because of the room issue, the noise, the cleanliness problems, and the fact that the hotel failed to honor our confirmed reservation, we are requesting a refund.

Please review this matter and process a refund for this booking. I am happy to provide the reservation number, photos, or any additional documentation needed.

check in was quick & easy, they allowed us to check in early which was nice. the underground parking was also great & we kept the car there the entire stay & just walked everywhere. we had a room facing the ocean which was also nice. the pool area & two hot tubs were clean & we used them all. they provided pool towels as well as the regular towels. the included morning breakfast was good & held us over until we ventured out for lunch. the rec room had a lot of amenities which we didn't use, pool tables, dvd's to check out, a library(!) and ping pong table. the grounds were clean, the staff was nice. the vending machine was fully loaded with a variety of food & snacks (ramen noodles to microwave in the room, etc.) i would definitely stay here again.
oh! and the restaurant, dina's, was fabulous for breakfast!

The property is at an excellent location to access Carlsbad State Beach. The ocean view is spectacular if you pick that type of room. The room is very large ,and it has a very large patio. Less than 2 miles away, there are many restaurants available. I will go back with family to stay a longer time. There's also a decent free breakfast included daily, pool and great gym. Great for families.

Absolutely amazing beautiful can’t say enough about it. My only complaint if it’s really a complaint is that the breakfast could’ve been a little better but other than that, it was absolutely stunning. We had a full ocean view and it was gorgeous.!!!!!!!

The stay at Tamarack was wonderful! Very clean property. You'll see the staff is constantly cleaning. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The location is amazing being right across the street from the beach. The room was very nice and well kept. The breakfast was good. It was very convenient and had a nice place to sit and eat indoor or outdoor. The property is also very kid friendly with a nice pool and a rec room with pool tables, TV's, library, gym, movie rentals. There is a nice restaurant on site but also so many great places within walking distance. There is also a rooftop area with seating that overlooks the ocean. Overall, a very lovely stay and we will definitely be coming back when we visit Carlsbad.

We enjoyed our one night stay here! The room was clean and the staff was helpful. It was quiet at night so we got a great sleep. It was a lovely place, we took advantage of the hot tub and pool. And the morning breakfast was tasty and filling.
Our room was on the inside facing the pool so we didn't have a beach view, but we went up to the observation patio and enjoyed the beach view from there.
I would stay here again.

I had never stayed at this hotel before, even though I've visited Carlsbad multiple times. The location was ideal for a quick trip. Upon arrival, I was told someone had been accidentally checked into my room. I was initially asked by front desk associate Gerald, to wait in lobby 15-20 min while he asked the other customers to move out of room. I asked about another room being available, but he said there was no other rooms similar to mine. Another male front desk associate( wish I had his name) heard about the dilemma and suggested I move into a bigger room, if I was only staying 1 night. He looked into other rooms, and before I knew it, I was moved in to a 3rd floor \" Condo\" with a balcony and partial ocean view. I greatly appreciated the prompt and courteous resolution from these 2 employees. I will definitely stay here again.

We loved the hotel. We had a wonderful ocean view with a balcony facing the ocean. We would stay there again. Perfect location.

The only thing that could be improved is the breakfast. Bacon and sausage were prepared, but there was no scrambled eggs or egg dish made. There was only prepackaged hard boiled eggs in a refrigerator.

This is as close to the beach as you can get. They keep the property in pristine condition. Everything you might need is close by. Staff is friendly and competent. I’ve stayed her about eight times, and it’s always a pleasure.

The property was nice, the staff was not friendly at all. The lady that monitors the breakfast was the most unfriendly I tried to engage into a small conversation she had zero interest, did smile felt very comfortable.
Also the lady that held the Friday bingo was so dry she put not effort to make it fun it’s no wonder why only 3 people showed up to play.
I have to say the cleaning lady Sylvia, she was so kind, we asked her where our room was she walked us to it she asked if we needed anything she was the ONLY staff that even said hi as we walked through the property.
With all that said we still had a great time the beach was so nice.

You can’t beat the location… Across the street from the beach with easy access! The town of Carlsbad is very walkable and charming! I love that they had parking with the room and a pool and two hot tubs! The breakfast was OK unless you’re used to having more choices but the waffle they made was good!

Prefect spot for a one night trip to SD with the family. The staff at the front was quick and nice. The rooms were shockingly big. We had a small patio with a partial view. We were going to legoland and the hotel was super close by. I loved it was right next to downtown Carlsbad. We will definitely be back.

Breakfast was complimentary and good. There is free and safe parking. The staff were all nice. I enjoyed my 1st floor balcony room with oceanfront views. Love the 2 soft and lush robes. The microwave and mini refrigerator was a plus. Love the restaurant Dini’s by the sea (next door). Love that the windows and walls were pretty sound proof (especially because of the main traffic in front). Next time, I’ll stay longer. Great staycation especially with all the perks and price. It’s a gem for sure!

Great experience! Booked a 3 day trip to Carlsbad and had a room with a partial view of the ocean and it was lovely!! Hotel was clean, staff was friendly, amenities were offered such as a continental breakfast each day, pool, jacuzzis, games, beach equipment available on a first come first serve basis based on quantity available. (Chairs, umbrella, volleyball, boogieboards) and a recreational room with nightly activities set up by staff for onsite entertainment. Within walking distance to the beach, local restaurants, and local shopping in the Carlsbad village. Underground private parking was also available and is gated. overall, the stay was a great experience and we would love to be back soon for another visit!!

A great place to stay. Everyone was so nice. Room was perfect and spacious. Breakfast was good with waffles cooked for you. Coffee and tea made available to you whenever you wanted. Just across the crosswalk was the beach. Parking was safe, underground and free. Would stay here again.
