My stay was for three nights, which I understand they don’t change sheets every day but I thought they would at least come in and make the bed and pick up dirty towels and take the trash out!

The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The rooms are your typical hotel rooms. Here is my issue. Parking is incredibly tight, carport type structure under the rooms. You get a parking pass but have to find open parking, which for some reason can be tough. I usually end up parking far away from my room but some don't mind the walk, others with children will disagree. I drove a MINI Van. MINI. I could only have family get out on one side because the space is so narrow to park. Oh well, nothing to be done about that. Last time I stayed here I parked in the street because I had a full size SUV. The only other issue I had was they have a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Great views and they use a fire pit to make it even nicer. The fire pits get turned off at 10:00 PM, I understand, sucks, but I understand. The problem I had was the entire deck closes at 10:00 PM. As much as we pay for the view, we can only enjoy it until 9:59 pm on a FRIDAY night of all nights. Now, I've stayed in the rooms that lead out to the deck and there have been people drinking and having a great time. I've never heard a peep once I closed my door. Noise isn't a factor, I know from experience and being a light sleeper. Imagine paying that much for a room with a view from across the street to the Pacific and you can only enjoy it until 9:59 PM. The staff tried to explained when I questioned and I was nice and said, it's not your policy, no worries. I'll just walk across the street to the beach. Ug

I understand this is a modest beachside property and that the location across from the beach in Carlsbad naturally comes with higher rates. I booked an “ocean view” room for over $400 expecting the view to justify the price, even if the hotel itself was more basic.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing in a few important ways. Upon check-in, I was informed that parking at the property was sold out and that I would need to find street parking. In such a congested beach area, this was extremely inconvenient and stressful, especially while dealing with an injured foot (walking boot) and carrying luggage. Street parking was very difficult to find, and I ended up having to walk quite a distance while also worrying about the safety of my rental car overnight.

The biggest disappointment, however, was the “ocean view” room itself. The room had a window with shutters facing mostly palm trees, with virtually no visible view of the ocean or beach. I truly feel the room description was misleading and did not match what was advertised.

The staff was polite, and I understand some things may be outside their control, but I do think the hotel should be more transparent about both parking limitations and what qualifies as an ocean view room. With clearer expectations, guests could make a more informed decision before booking.

Loved my stay. Place was clean and staff was helpful. Really enjoyed relaxing on the deck in the evenings. The hotel has a beautiful view right across the street from the beach. I took the coaster train from SD to Carlsbad and it was a 3 block walk from the train station. It’s on a main road and close to the train station but I found the hotel to be really quiet. Breakfast was good had an assortment of pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, cereal, pastries, yogurt. Coffee and tea available all day in the lounge. A quick walk to many restraints and shops. Would definitely stay again.

Our room had a balcony with a beautiful beach view. Breakfast was included and offered mostly the basics, but everything was fresh, so really no complaints there. The view while eating breakfast made it even better. The only downside was the parking, but that’s pretty typical for California, especially near the beach. Parking on the property is $44 per night, though street parking is free. Plus, if you’re heading to the beach, you get VIP parking right at the front of the street. We really loved our stay and will definitely be coming back.

Hotel is steps away from Carlsbad State Beach and two restaurants. Breakfast was adequate. Room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Partial ocean view off the balcony was not worth the extra room cost because the balcony is located on the street side right across the street from a large hotel resort. In the future will request inside courtyard room as it is located away from street traffic.
Only disappointment was that the hotel charges $23/night for parking. We have never had to pay for parking at a Best Western property. Also the Amtrak train runs through the town.

I loved everything about this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Also, they had an amazing indoor/outdoor seating area with a view of the ocean. On top of that, the beach, shops, and restaurants were in walking distance. Finally, the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend this property.

Cons:
- No vent in the bathrooms, just a small window, gets very steamy. Also no cabinet or vanity in the bathroom. Sink is outside of the bathroom.
- AC is an older wall unit, works but had to keep it on all the time to keep the room cool.
- rooms smell a little musty
- no water fountain for water bottles
- hotel outdoor area gets fumes from seafood restaurant across the street
- room gets cleaned only once during our 4 day stay
- PARKING FEE $23 per day. Street parking is free but inconsistent availability
- cost is very high for what you get
- rooms are all on the 2nd and 3rd floors, lots of stairs and only 1 elevator
- not a whole lot to do at the hotel

Pros:
- close to the ocean/beach
- breakfast is decent
- noise was minimal and rooms were fairly quiet overall
- rooms were fairly clean
- laundry room is small but newer machines

We stayed right across from the beach, which was fantastic. Lots of fit people here in Carlsbad also visited Delmar, which isn’t too far away. The town is extremely killing and the people are very friendly. I would definitely stay here again. Took advantage of the outdoor fire pit with morning, coffee, and evening wind down. Price was reasonable for April.

It's a nice hotel with great location but NOISY! Sound carried from the pool, from the hallways, from the elevator. And unfortunately our partial ocean view balcony was right over a street gas repair project that started around 7am and stopped at 2am only to start again at 7am. I think hotel should have given us what info they could but instead both my calls went unreturned. On check out I spoke with manager and was comped our parking fee ($63). My car was covered in construction dust and no sleep for half my stay...i wasn't a happy customer

Unbelievable experience. I stayed here many times years ago. This was a definite step up from past management. Great linens, loved the fireplace in the room, enjoyed the ocean view deck for incredible sunsets nightly and the breakfast was the best selection we have ever had. Great staff!!!!! Will definitely return. Used the trolley for free from Airport to Old Town and the Coaster train to Carlsbad. Used the train to go to Oceanside to Pronto office to fix ticket purchase issue and then to Downtown to take the Sea boat excursion and lunch at Seaport Village.

This is a great place to stay. Right across the street from the beach, you can sit on the deck and watch the sunset while enjoying a drink, swim in the heated pool or sit by the outdoor fireplace. Just minutes up the street are lots of restaurants and shopping, all within just three or four blocks of the hotel. The staff are super friendly, and it is in a very quiet part of town. I am definitely going to stay here next time I am in Carlsbad!

The beach view from the room was not unobstructed and barely visible. The location of the building was convenient however, the building was old and this was obvious and not worth the money they charged. The service was not good at all: they acted annoyed when we asked for more towels and to have the trash taken out on day 3 of a 5 day stay and we had asked for more TP and they never brought any so I had to go the front desk to get some. There is no housecleaning while you stay but you can ask but see above. The warm breakfast service was a nice touch but considering what we paid for the room and all the other things that lacked, it is not enough to want to go back. Also, they charge $19/day extra for parking which should be part of that ridiculous room charge.

The room was clean and nicely updated, although an older property. Elevator was a plus. A fire pit was located where it would have nice to have a hot tub but the pool looked nice.
Under room parking was convenient since in a busy area. Unfortunately was not aware of the parking fee before check in.
Breakfast was par for this type of hotel. Wonderful location right across from beach access and walking distance to the village and many restaurants.
Overall, nice facility. Would recommend for a mid range hotel.

Fantastic location across the street from the beach. Downtown Carlsbad is walkable, just 2 blocks away. The building is older, probably built in the 1960’s but was clean. Staff was friendly and while breakfast was just OK, the dining area was clean and organized each morning. One downside is the parking cost of $19 per night.

The only redeeming quality about this hotel is its location. The room itself is old and filthy. The grout on the bathroom floor is black and the all the metal in the bathroom and room (toilet flusher, sink, lamps) are all rusted. The room is just gross; especially for what they charge. I paid over $400 for one night which is criminal considering what you get. You also have to pay for parking which is mandatory when traveling with a car since parking in the area is impossible.

We loved the location. We had a view of the beach from our balcony and the hotel is literally across the street from Carlsbad park and beach. The hotel is old but nearly completely renovated. We loved the breakfast room and patio views as well. We would stay here again!

I really liked the deck that you could sit at and see the ocean/beach. The staff was very nice. The breakfast was very good. The firepit was a plus. The room was very outdated and old, musty smell and the air conditioner never really worked and was noisy. The price was expensive for the type of rooms. The location was really nice.

The lady at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. The location is great. But the rooms are horrible. The ac is so loud that it triggered my migraine, I slept poorly because it kept turning on with a tractor sound. The bathroom is so tight and old, dingy, I wouldn’t shower there even if you paid me. The elevator is rattling on the go, making you wonder if you will make it to your destination. The walls are paper thin, I could hear my neighbors chatting from my room. Some guests hung their filthy towels over the common stairs handles, those towels stayed untouched overnight. The parking spots are tight, though given the limited space it is predictable. I am never staying here again and I thoroughly regret doing so this time.
