Affordable and incredibly pleasant stay! The shared (female-only) room and bathroom were clean (loved that they clean the bathroom frequently), making my stay very comfortable. The thick bedding was super cozy—I slept so well! They also offer free luggage storage, which is very convenient for travelers. The staff and caretaker were very accommodating. Absolutely loved my stay and highly reco this place!! Will def stay again :)

Ok for a stopover but not very clean. Kitchen also has cockroaches. The position of the hostel in CBD is good as loads to do, however for that reason it’s so noisy. People screaming at each other about to fight, girls screaming on nights out etc. Windows don’t muffle the noise much so woken up constantly through the nights. No curtains on bunk beds either

Overall, it was a wonderful stay. However, I was late checking in a day due to a delay in flights, when I got in the next day, they said the room was not available due to it not being clean. I am unsure why they would give it to someone for the night when I had already reserved it at that point.

It was a good stays in many ways. But there was a bit of problems l think. The coating on the bottom of frying pan was peeled off, so it needs to change. I saw and caught a few cockrouchs on the table. Please clean the kitchen frequently.

The inn was in a great location and close to everywhere you want to go in the centre of the city. Walkable to train station and Elizabeth Quay and all the food service. The facilities in the inn were reasonable as if you want to cook, the fridge and kitchen were available with a reasonable price.

Very close to the city centre. Rates compare very very well with sorrounding accomodation. Cheaper than most. Very close to trains and busses. Starting here travelling the rest of the city is extremely easy. Best place to be.

The location is good, close to public transportation, supermarkets and restaurants.
I booked hoping to be able to use kitchen facilities but it was not possible. The refrigerators were full and overflowing, the kitchen felt unhygienic. I guess it gets cleaned but there's a lot of people staying there.

Good hostel environment with single/double rooms as well as shared dorms. Bathrooms at the end of the corridor were clean and good apart from towels lying on the floor. Well appointed common room and kitchen and even a small reading room on the 1st floor. Location and price excellent.

Nicest hostels I’ve ever stayed. it’s clean and staff is very friendly. Outside can be pretty noisy at night to early morning and really hard to sleep.
There are so many good restaurants outside and also woolies is in walking distance. And also the light feature for the room was pretty awesome. ( you have to put your key card in a key card holder to turn on the lights and when you walk out the room you can walk out the room and take the key with you and light turned off automatically).

Booked one night to see how it was, ended up extending for the long weekend! 4 bed dorm, beds so comfy, clean towel provided. Bathrooms always clean and not too busy. Rooms are near a main road, although I'm a light sleeper my room was further away from the noise. Air conditioning made me lazy in the heat, didn't want to leave my room!
Didn't really use communal areas, however was told by my female roommates the guys can be creepy.
Wifi in the room not great, which is a shame as I wanted to book a private room for the rest of the week but needed reliable Internet!

Beds were good. Floor in the disgusting as they have not been cleaned in forever and we had to wear flip flops not to get the dirtiest feet ever.
Toilets were fine and clean. Kitchen was the most disgusting hostel kitchen I had ever experienced. Filled with people’s used pots in the sink making it impossible to clean yours when you’re done (and also to find something usable that you didn’t have to clean up first). Also, the floor was terribly dirty and the kitchen itself not clean at all.
The location is very good though.
I would NOT recommend this hostel.

I am quite satisfied with the 4 bed dorm. Bed was comfy, room is good size and it has a lockable cabinet (bring your own lock). The study table and chair is a nice addition. Toilet is clean. Towel supplied by the hostel had an unpleasant smell. The windows cannot be shut completely. And the street noise can be very loud at times. I find the keycard switch system very inconvenient. If the one that inserts the keycard, leaves the room, the electricity (aircon, lights, power) gets cut till the next person inserts the keycard.

Single room was so much better than the 4 bed dorm. It has everything i needed (i.e. hangers, rack to hang clothes, tables, chair, mirror etc). It is pretty spacious for a single room. I was able to shut the windows completely unlike in the 4 bed dorm. Street noise could still be heard but it was acceptable.

I booked private single room. The room is basic with TV, chair , writing table, cupboard, full body length mirror and a considered cozy bed. The aircon can be set to be air conditioning or heater. The room, toilet and common area are clean. This inn is quiet. The location is very fantastic whether you wanna take train or bus or ferry or just do shopping at the vicinity. A lot of restaurants nearby. If you join any local day tour, the pick-up point is nearby within walking distance. The check-in was smooth though I checked in at 9pm after reception hour but I did pre-inform the receptionist through email beforehand. The email reply was prompt too. Overall, the stay was considered pleasant and value for money.

Room is carpeted and so filthy you don’t even want to put your bags on the ground. Room was smelly and the cleaning doesn’t seem to happen (been there a week and the bin never got emptied, so imagine the carpet!).
Kitchen isn’t that clean either (to say the least) and I never wanted to cook there, instead I had to do take away everyday...
It’s a place where homeless people or weirdos seem to come to...
Also, you’re not being provided with bed top sheet, but just one blanket, though very soft but so soft it’s high static electricity generating (everytime you move it sparks ESD).
Stay away, don’t trust the better rating than YHA on booking website!

I stayed in 6bed dorm room which is very narrow and too congested. The space between top bunk bed and ceiling so narrow. Locker provided without lock. The room is disappointing, but other common space is good and cozy. The location is the best. Walking distant to street mall and bell tower.

My stay was great. The location is super handy. The room and the shared bathroom are very clean, while the kitchen is not sometimes. There’s dishes left in the sink overnight and there’s always no paper towels in the kitchen every morning because the staffs don’t replace it.

Also I’ve noticed a few of the staffs are actually residents in this inn and there’s one guy, he’s not very professional because he sometimes swears in front of the guests (not towards them but it’s just how he talks with other people). I understand they are all young men but when working, I hope they can mind their manners and not just unconsciously say the f words as it’s so not professional.

Overall it’s a good stay.

I've stayed in many hostels around the world, and this particular hostel had one of the best kept clean shared restrooms. The bed was comfortable and the overall property was good. The location was fantastic with convenient location to the train and ferries. The only issues I had with the place was that the internet was a bit slow, and I didn't like the fact that you have to check out at 10:30am. Why not just make it 11:00am like most hostels. It's almost like they are trying to rush you out or something.

Bad place to stay. You will be kept awake all night by the drunk rowdy people walking past on Murray Street all night. Two words - Sleep Deprivation. The place does have nice bathrooms and comfortable beds but the drunks keep you awake all night.

Located near the city center on a very interesting street, very convenient. Rooms are very small, even sliding through the door requires some acrobatic maneuvers. The common area, on the other hand is huge, a great big dungeon with a full-size pool table (in bad condition though). The kitchen is also huge, with a lot of dishes, cookware and equipment. Plenty of toilets and showers, never had problem finding a free one. Front desk isn't always open, but I had no problem checking in by buzzing the night caretaker and checking out simply by dropping the key card into a box at reception. The main issue was dirt. Even though they threaten horrible punishment for not cleaning up after yourself in the kitchen, by the end of the day the kitchen looks like a wild drunken party just ended there. The common area is also full of garbage. The other issue is power in the room. You need to insert the key card into a special slot to get power. When you leave the room and if there is no one else there, the power goes out, so you can't leave your devices in the room to charge, it simply doesn't work. Worse yet, there are no power plugs at upper-deck beds, and you can't use the power plugs of the lower deck without waking up those who sleep below. This costed me a couple of hours of sightseeing, because I had to stay put in the morning to wait until my phone is charged. That was the most frustrating part. Otherwise, not a bad place at all and really cheap.

As far as hostels go this is one of the best.

The rooms are super clean and tidy, comfy beds, air con and plug sockets at each bed. The showers are powerful and bathrooms are super clean.

There's a huge hitch and chilling area downstairs, laundry and outdoor area.

It's slap bang in the middle of the CBD and it probably one of the cheapest hostels in Perth, and I'd say the best!

Good location but thats the only positive. Reception only open 9-7 so very inconvenient to checkin or get your luggage after the mandatory 10.30am checkout as i had a late flight and ended up having to wheel my luggage around the city. Lived in a 6 bed dorm on level 1 and it stunk of body odour, maybe as there were 3 guys, 2 other girls in the room. Bathrooms were dirty especially mysterious gunk in the sinks and never once did i see a cleaner as the bathrooms were in the same condition day by day. Couldnt sleep due to loud, constant generator/pipe noises, especially loud in the bathrooms.

Fantastic hostel, great location

I stayed four nights at Kangaroo in. I booked a 2 bed mixed dorm, but ended up with the room to myself. The super clean female bathroom was right across the hall. The whole place is spotless, and security is excellent. The staff is a bit hit or miss on their knowledge of the area, but the manager John was super nice, helpful, and friendly. It's only about 100 meters from the Hay Street and Murray Street pedestrian outdoor malls where there is good food and shopping. It's also close to the underground line, as well as several bus routes. I took the 380 bus from the airport and walked about 10 minutes from my stop to the hostel. Very convenient! I will absolutely stay here again the next time I'm in Perth!

First of all, great water pressure. It has the best water pressure of any hostel I have stayed at. Perfect for washing my hair.

The hostel is fairly quiet in terms of guests. Not too many people were in the common areas or bathrooms. The hostel night staff regularly watched TV with us or ate at one of the dinner tables. This added to the friendly atmosphere ( and likely encouraged to be respectful). It was really nice. The hostel was not very crowded and I had a room to myself for 6 nights. Not sure if this would have been the case during the summer months.

The facilities were great. The hallways, common areas, and bathrooms have motion sensory lights. The doors use a tap key card to open. The rooms rooms use key cards to run on the power. The kitchen can be a bit dirty depending on the guests, but mostly clean. There are a lot of signs reminding guests to clean up after themselves. I saw one (small) cockroach during my visit.

Great location. It is in the city center near a bus and Perth underground station. Super easy to walk to grocery stores, river front, shopping centers, etc. I would stay there again.

Smelly Rooms, Terrible Customer Service. The girl at the front office was very unhelpful with my queries. When I asked legitimate questions she was unable to answer them with any real substance. The room was smelly and in an effort to camouflage the stench a large air machine was present on the table. I turned this off immediately as the fake flowery smell it was releasing was so strong and overbearing I began to choke. The kitchen was good and the location is excellent and the inclusion of a pool table in the communal area was a bonus, however this is still not enough to warrant the disproportionately high price ($60) one would have to pay for a double shared room as I did.

I needed a centrally located hotel as a place to sleep for 2 days in Perth and the Kangaroo in was perfect. The hotel was clean, bed very comfortable and staff friendly and helpful.

On the downside, the wifi reception in my room was very poor. Also the rooms could do with a bit of colour, as the plain white brickwork gave the room a prison cell look.

The kangaroo in was perfect for what I needed but I felt was over priced for a single room with shared bathroom.

Walls are paper thin, can hear people talking in the next room or waking down the corridor, can hear doors closing and most annoyingly the elevator going up and down.
Bring ear plugs and you'll sleep. Beds are comfy. Bathrooms modern and clean.

The hotel is located right in the centre of the CBD and a stones throw from the pedestrian shopping malls.
