The room stayed cool from the aircon how ever the room had multiple stains on the walls the one desk provided was covered in stains and scratched up all over the room was not a nice as avd

The location is great close to Hay St. and Murray St. malls. The room smelt smoky but seemed clean otherwise. The carpet throughout the hotel was worn and torn. Outside the building felt a little rundown with several vacant spaces nearby and homeless people sleeping around on the streets. The staff were friendly and helpful. I found I could hear people talking at night and people moving around which kept me awake but otherwise it was quiet.

The building is very old and appears to be possibly undergoing a major renovation the room was very clean and quiet until the workers next door started at 7am everyday, but the staff where excellent and very friendly, the shower was ordinary a hand held nozel but the beds were very comfortable, no restaraunt at the hotel but plenty of dining within a short walk, overall was good would stay there again

Although the general state of the hotel was quite dated and worn the room was fine, comfy bed, plenty of hot water and secure.
Staff were helpful and courteous whenever I asked a question. Housekeeping staff were friendly and pleasant.
Location was good, walking distance to public transport and shops bars etc

We often stay at the criterion,as its convenient when needing an often late stay before flying out to work the next day. The 11am check out works well for us. The rooms are nothing flash but always clean and comfortable enough. The only thing I'd say is pack your ear plugs because it can be a little noisy

There was black mould on the bathroom ceiling and a damp smell in the reception area. There was a bucket that looked like it was collecting water on the stairs. I probably wouldnt stay here again. The bed and sheets appeared clean.

The room was comfortable and benefited from a balcony. Bathroom was clean and toiletries were supplied. Could do with a lick of paint to brighten it up and carpets could do with replacing, but considering the price and location was competitively priced. Staff were very helpful

Clean room in an old building. Excellent location. We felt unsafe as there were a lot of rough people wandering outside the entrance of the hotel. Hotel entrance is always locked and entry by access card.

Well situated but charging a $250 refundable fee in addition to accommodation was unexpected.
The place is very old and does not rate compared to other hotels nearby. No dining in house and no cleaning on weekends.

We walked in and straight out. There was black mold on the ceiling in reception. Everything was battered. It did not look like the pictures on the advertisement. I have never been so horrified or embarrassed that I had booked this place. They did give me my deposit back straight away. I can see why they make the booking non refundable because it is nothing like what is advertised. I bet this does not appear in the ratings

Criterion is in a really good position. Close to central city shops restaurants, cafe's etc.
We use it as a late stay over flying interstate for work but its in a great spot. Has 24hr checkin. 11am checkout. It all works really well for us. Its a little noisy at times is all id say but overall good value accommodation.

The need for a $250 bond was a surprise. It was refunded during checkout.
Maintenance issues in my room: Desk top has lots of peeling paint, Skirting board has scratches, carpet is worn in places.
Insufficient shelves.
No writing material in room.
No ironing board nor iron
Room not clean on a Saturday

Property very old and in need of maintenance and updating. I think the pricing is a bit high. I've stayed at other hotels approx same price and rooms were much better.
Basic rooms, clean linen daily which was a plus.
Good location. Plenty of nearby cafes for meals.

We found the room to be cold - heater didn’t do much & we couldn’t get hold of reception to request another blanket.

We often stay at the criterion because its reasonably priced and convenient with its 24hr checkin. We arrived very late due to major delays on our flights. Check-In is quick. The desk is manned 24hrs .11am check out suits us too. We had a flight the next day. Overall, its nothing fancy and can be a little noisy but an affordable place to rest your head for 1 night.

Great location right near Hay street Mall but property condition was pretty poor.

Also the need for a $250 deposit was unusually high for what was a very basic room and saying it would take a long period of time before release was a shock.

Positive shower was hot towels and sheets were clean but some other areas needed attention

We were freezing cold with a thin blanket and flat pillows. Bed super uncomfortable. Had about an hours sleep . Never ever stay there again.

Blood on walls and curtains, hairs on sheets and vanity. Otherwise it was as I expected, which was run-down and very basic, which was reflected in the price. Good location, and front desk staff were great. They don’t provide housekeeping services on weekends.

Hotel is getting very old and is in an area where vagabonds sleep outside.
Room was ok. Could have done with an extra blanket as was a bit cool. I know i could have used the aircon but put up with it. Bathroom is very bright. Doesn't need that many lights. Was ok overall.

We pick the criterion because its cheap for a 1 night stay and in a good location but its extremely noisy and if not in an updated room, extremely worn out. We had a leaking tap all night but it wasn't worth asking to change rooms as we got in very late and flew out the next day for work. 2 people in the next door room got in, in the early hrs, and were so loud we couldn't get back to sleep. The sound proofing is terrible.
In saying that though we probably will return if we need a cheaper stay in perth as a layover for another flight. They have an 11am check out time which is better then some! A didi or uber is quite reasonable from and to the airport from there also. Its actually in a really good position close to all you need.

The room was ok, the bed was comfortable, tea & coffee making supplies were good. The area is quite noisey & there was too much light getting in through the curtains. The tap fittings in the shower were in poor condition, though the shower worked well & there was plenty of hot water. There is no bar or restaurant. For the price & centeral location, it was satisfactory.

The room and facilities in the room were adequate. The building is not a hotel anymore and most of the areas are closed- off it’s realty only an accommodation block at best.
I felt the price was excessive for what you were getting, just a bed for the night, also no wifi.
Although the location was good there are other places with similar location with cheaper rates.

3 star hotel my a**. Straight out of a horror movie, it's most likely on the lower end of a 2 star rating.

Restoration is needed, which will clearly never come. Between the carpet, the walls and the windows I don't know what was dirtier.

However, the cleanliness of the ensuite bathroom was on point, as were the sheets.
