Cosy and convenient

The room and the property was well kept. The Manager was very clear with information and directions. He even was kind enough to ask about our visit and recommend things to do and how to do them whilst giving different options of going around the city. The property is quite close the city centre and was very convenient.

Lovely stay, helpful host.

I recommend the Capital Guest House without hesitation, it was very clean and the owner is so friendly. He definitely go the extra mile for his guests. The location is convenient for all Edinburgh attractions. Though I didn't need parking I am sure the fact that there is parking is a big plus. I will keep this place in mind as I do visit Edinburgh regularly.

This is an average hotel and is advertised as such. The owner is unusually friendly and will do his utmost to make you feel welcome. The hotel itself is in no way luxurious but you will have what you need. You get a small bar of soap and a small bottle of shampoo but no conditioner or lotion. You get a hospitality tray with a kettle, biscuits, instant coffee, and tea, and the staff does remember to replenish them. You can borrow an iron. We found the room a little dark for working. One of the rooms we were in comes with a private bathroom as opposed to an en-suite bathroom; that is to say, you are the only user but the bathroom itself is external to your room. The breakfast is plain. A table is laid out with four types of cereal, a jug of milk, a jug of orange juice, a coffee maker, and fruit. There are scones, toast, and rolls, and you get one kind of sliced cheese, one kind of cheese spread, and jams. There is cable-TV in the room and two wireless Wi-Fi networks. Both networks were okay for speed but sometimes stalled for a minute or two.

I stayed here for 5 nights during the peak festival season in August. The owner was incredibly nice and helpful, and genuinely wanted his guests to have a great visit to Edinburgh. Room was clean and cozy. The breakfast was a basic continental but plenty to get you up and energized for the first part of your day. Although the location is about a 20 minute walk from the city center, I appreciated the quiet neighborhood considering the city center was extremely loud and full of tourists at the time of my visit. Also, there are plenty of buses in the area (with stops either right across the street or a 3 minute walk around the block) which run every few minutes. I actually ended up taking the buses quite a bit as the 20 minute walk seemed like a lot after several hours of walking in the city center sightseeing/shopping/going on tours each day. But again, this was no problem as they ran so frequently and stopped so close to the house (This includes one of the buses that goes all the way to the airport!). Overall, I had a great stay and would absolutely return on any future trips to Edinburgh!

Cute hotel. Nice staff.

The owner was very personable and considerate. He had lots of tips for us, and ensured we had a great stay. The place itself was beautiful. I loved the decor. It also was not a long walk to the royal like which is a huge bonus.

I think the website should be clear about what private bathroom means and en suite means. The host told us many get upset when they were told the room has no bath room. We were lucky, the guest house was not full and the host kindly switched us to bigger room with attached bathroom. The host is very frindly. We stayed 4 nights, the room not cleaned and same towels.

Well-located but with basic facilities

The room was generally a little tired - it could do with redecorating. The mattress was very lumpy and definitely needed replacing. We missed that there was no clock/alarm clock in the room; smartphones are common these days but it's something we've come to expect. The soundproofing was nonexistant; we could hear people talking normally in other rooms and on the stairs, never mind when they spoke more loudly! Our room was not en suite, but did have a private bathroom. The lock on the private bathroom tended to slip (old design), and the shower was either freezing or boiling, no middle-ground at all.

No special allowance was made for breakfast on New Year's Day (eg being an hour later); we felt this was a shame. The breakfast room was smaller than the guest house capacity and although we had no problems being seated, it would have been an annoyance to have to wait or hurry to finish if everyone came down at the same time.

Good location with parking \n

I made a mistake and booked a room with private bathroom which was in the corridor, past 2 more bedroom doors. I intended to book en-suite and naively did not realise what \"private bathroom\" meant. I believe it was an exclusive bathroom for a particular room but who knows?
The owner offered us another room that did have en-suite but was more money. That we gladly accepted and the room was fine.

Weekend trip to Edinburgh

Place was fantastic. Nice clean beds, hot showers with nice water pressure, free continental breakfast, etc. The host was amazingly accommodating, holding our luggage before and after, giving great suggestions, and giving us a phone call when we accidentally left something. The only issue was that it was a walk from city center, but overall it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend.

Picked the Capital guest house as we were going to a gig in the Queens hall its only a short walk away, the walk from the central area of Edinburgh to the Capital Guest House is about 15-20 mins walk but if you have cases get a taxi!
A good clean and comfortable Bed and Breakfast to base yourself for a couple of days
In Edinburgh.

Fantastic friendly service.

The host was fantastic. He genuinely cared about the wellbeing of all of his guests not just me. He was incredibly helpful and pleasant and took an interest in all his guests. Breakfast was yummy and there was a big variety, fruit, cereals, toast, scones, cheese.
The room was extremely comfortable, if I wasn't in Edinburgh, I would have happily stayed there all day. Powerful, warm showers. Clean, tidy bathrooms and rooms, freshly furnished each day, it was a pleasure to return home.

I felt like I was at home, not on holiday, which was excellent. T
Easy to walk, get a bus ride, or taxi from the centre of town. A straight walk. Affordable price. Great place to stay.

If I wasn't a student, I would have been able to tip more. Highly recommended. :)

Great Location, Building Needs Some TLC

Our room was generous in size and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom is a bit tired and could do with an update. The property is on a main road so access is good but without double glazing there is a high level of traffic noise. The service was very good and the breakfast more than adequate.

Good budget option

We enjoyed our stay at the Capital Guesthouse. Decor and furnishings are old, but everything was clean and fonctionnal, including wifi and shower. Location is a bit far from the main centre, but offers a nice 25-mins walk to the Royal Mile, with shops, cafes and restaurants along the way (we didnt take the bus but the stop is right at the front door). Our host was welcoming, warm and full of information. He helped us with booking a tour and a taxi to Waverley Stn. A great option!

Very nice B&B, proprietor very welcoming. Good suggestions of how to get around on the bus system, and some things to see. Breakfast limited to packaged foods, but nicely served and provided. Room en suite a bit cramped for comfort, but all very clean and nice. Good value for money.

Pleasant Surprise

Capital Guest house far exceeded our expectations based upon the relatively low tarif, photo gallery, star rating and location. In actual fact, the large triple room was newly furnished and decorated, it had a settee, coffee table and tv by a large window overlooking quite a smart main road in addition to a double and a single bed and ample storage space. There was a bus stop outside but we were close enough in the end to walk to and from the various Edinburgh Fringe venues. The proprietor was most welcoming and obliging. Wi Fi worked well and there was no charge for it. Note that breakfast is not included in the lower priced part of the accommodation that we used, but there are Tesco and Sainsbury stores very close by and we were able to make our own breakfast, packed lunches and even a simple meal in the spacious room. Highly recommended. We will definitely stay again when we next attend the Festival as it proved to be a comfortable yet economical option.

Our room was clean, however the bed was quite small and the windows did not have blackout curtains, so some light come inside in the morning. The city center is about 20 min by walking from the hotel. The included breakfast is simple but good enough, where it was included french toast, some butter and jellies, cereals, yogurt, milk, coffee, tea, some fruits and cold cuts. The owner was very helpful and kind.

The room felt a little dated but was large and comfortable. The is located in quiet area and yet only 15 mins walk or 2 mins bus ride from the city centre. The owner is very pleasant and helpful guy. Only downpoint was that the breakfast was only cereals and toasts and we couldn't get any wi-fi on top floor

Good value for money

It's a nice hotel (guest house, really), not very far from Edinburgh Waverley railway station. It's located on a quiet street, but there are couple of bus services right outside the guest house that take you to the city centre. The room itself was very clean and cosy. Everything was working!
The owner was nice and pleasant. We were staying only for a night, so we couldn't try out the breakfast (included in the room tariff) as we had booked an early morning bus tour of the highlands.
Overall, good value for money.
