This is hands-down, the best hotel in Edinburgh. The location, history, amenities, staff and overall beauty and quality are difficult to describe. You feel like you’re staying in a 17 century Scottish manners and essentially, you are. 12 out of 10.

Gorgeous, immaculate, luxurious. I’d give this stay more stars if I could. The staff caters to your every whim, the property is spotless, they have a free roaming peacock, cat and 3 highland cows. Idyllic. Best hotel I’ve ever stayed in hands down. Worth the splurge.

This property was beautiful. We loved the cow when we opened the blind to our window in the morning. The first thing we saw was a beautiful furry cow. We slept for 11 solid hours and everything was so comfortable and all the staff was so attentive we couldn’t have asked for more. We just love it here in Scotland.

Prestonfield House is like an oasis in central Edinburgh. It is a beautifully maintained period house with nice grounds. The staff were excellent. I had a party of Thai friends for dinner and they loved both the atmosphere and the dinner itself.

Everything about his property was incredible. It feels like you’re in the country but it is a quick and inexpensive ride to get into the city. The restaurant is amazing and the entire staff were simply the best we’ve experienced at any stay we have booked. I can’t recommend Prestonfield House enough.

Incredible service, the restaurant is excellent, as was high tea. Sort of walkable to downtown (45 minutes) and there are buses as well. About 30 minute cab from airport. Each room is uniquely decorated and very comfortable.

Such a friendly welcome at this stunning hotel. Stayed in December so the festive decorations were out and stunning.

Room was extremely comfortable with so many luxurious finishes and touches.

We dined at on site Rhubard restaurant and whilst a delicious meal, found the service not as attentive as it could have been. But this was specific to the restaurant and not general to the hotel.

Really lovely. Staff were excellent, taking great care of myself and my dog Teddi, especially at meal times so that I didn't have to leave Teddi in the car while I ate. My only very minor observation was the bed being so high. Needed steps to climb in. However an excellent stay, grounds great for taking dog for a walk. Would definitely stay again.

This property was absolutely stunning. Its location close to everything in the old city, and yet in a secluded, tranquil environment is perfect. The food was excellent and the service was top-notch. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We arrived early in the day after an overnight flight from Canada and they were so accommodating. While our room was not ready, which was not unexpected we were served a lovely breakfast. Our bags were taken care of, and when we arrived back from town, around 1:30 they made every effort to get our room ready as soon as possible. We will go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend Prestonfield House.

So extravagant, it's like walking onto the set of a Pride and Prejudice film! It's literally a service-obsessed hotel in every way without comparison. An environment of pure grandeur and comfort! An incredible collection of antique furniture, swathes of fabric wallpaper, plush curtains-the pillows are fluffy the lighting is soft and moody, and the housekeeping is second to none! Best night's sleep I've had in years! The food is unparalleled! I had a yogurt made with honey from local bees which live on the property! The rhubarb was also grown on the property and like nothing I ever tasted or will ever taste again! My son, who is a picky eater, said the salmon was so delicious, he felt like he died and went to hotel heaven! Every detail was painstakingly attended to. I made a brief mention of forgetting my umbrella, and no less than two seconds later, a hotel staff member handed me one before I jetted away in the cab they had called for me! I felt like a queen!

A Real 5 Star Hotel

Totally amazing hotel, the staff especially Jennie on reception was so very nice and very helpful. The whole experience and ambience of this truly 5 Star Hotel in Edinburgh was first class in every way. We have stayed in hotels all over the world, and I would say The Prestonfield, is on par with the luxury Hotels in Dubai. It's the best hotel we have stayed in the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for ANY of the staff. Still smiling at their warmth and friendliness, they truly make you feel at home. Could not fault anything. Thank you Mr Thomson for sharing your lovely creation with us. If you do go, Jennie and the one of the managers, (whose name I forget - sorry), will give you a lovely history lesson of how the Hotel emerged into what it is today. 5 Stars all the way !! Thank you, and we will be back !!

Beyond amazing - smitten

This was one of the best places I have ever stayed. Luxurious, comfortable, and opulent. The staff were so attentive and lovely. I wanted to spend all my time at the hotel. Special Birthday Surprise

Booked DBB stay for my wife’s birthday surprise. On arrival used the free parking ( normally valet parking not available due to Covid). Fantastic service and welcome.
At the reception they couldn’t do enough for you and when explained it was my mistake for booking the wrong room style they had a look and offered us an upgrade to a suite which made it even more special for my wife.
Where ever you went in or around the hotel the staff just couldn’t do enough for you.
The room was amazing beyond both our dreams, comfortable, very clean.
We have visited the hotel previously for a wedding and afternoon tea which were excellent.
This is the first time of staying and will book and stay again, my wife was blown away with her birthday surprise.

Fantastic venue, attentive staff and the rooms and setting is just beautiful. The little touch's for our dog she absolutely loved. We had dinner here which was really great. Breakfast, however was pretty poor not much of it and very dry - no beans with a \"full Scottish\" and hard boiled poached egg....

The head Concierge Stuart is a wonderful Ambassador for the property. The food is excellent from the breakfast, tea to dinner.

A Perfect Stay

Clean & luxurious trough out. Several drawing rooms for you to relax in after a meal, for reading, socialising etc. Bedrooms are very comfortable, & are well stocked. The staff are absolutely brilliant. They are very attentive, & nothing is too much trouble. A real credit to Prestonfield House. Finally, the food here is just exquisite, & very well presented. It's hard to sum up the Prestonfield House. It's certainly the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are phenomenal, ready to help with anything. The decor needs to be seen to be believed. The restaurant is superb. And it's a 5 minute drive from the Old Town, somehow.

Old-world hotel with great service and restaurant

We had a wonderful stay. The property is magnificent, the staff extremely efficient and polite, the restaurant excellent and the grounds are kept impeccably. Every night it was wonderful to get back to this corner of paradise after a day in the city center (which is only five minutes away by cab). Our suite (Lord Provost) was beautiful and romantic. We highly recommend this hotel.

Perfection! I'm not kidding!

No doubt the most wonderful hotel experience I've ever had...and I travel a lot! Prestonfield House should write a book about how to run a hotel to perfection! The staff are extraordinary. Derek in particular is outstanding. I could go on and on about the incredible service.
The hotel itself is pure indulgence and beautiful to say the least.
We enjoyed the afternoon tea immensely. Very generous with portions. The breakfast was amazing! The Eggs Benedict was delicious.
The Scottish show is held in the converted stables and very much worth seeing. We had a fantastic time. Dinner and wine were very good.
The Prestonfield is worth every single penny. The memories will last a lifetime.
