The room was clean, and the staff was helpful, but the property is outdated. And the Griffin building is separate from the hotel so you really don’t get the experience of staying there. And heaven forbid your key not work, which happened to me three times, because it means you have to return to the check-in at the main hotel. While you can walk to the main attraction of Colonial Williamsburg, for the price paid, I would not stay again.

While the room is clean enough, and certainly big, it’s outdated. The configuration is just odd. And while the staff checking me in was lovely, my room key quit working three times. And also the Griffin is far away from the rest of the hotel so every time the key quit working, it was a trek back to reception. And the building has no elevator. When I couple all this with the price per night, I have to say it was not a good value. (not to mention it was odd watching the sprinklers water the tennis court.)

I can’t say enough good things about this hotel. Our room was clean, large, beds comfortable, bathroom and two sink areas were convenient. The deck was overlooking a pond and a nice place to relax after walking the restoration area. Being close to the hotel and restaurants was perfect. And, the staff were exceptional.

Huge room in a quiet, wooded setting. Slightly-dated furnishing, but everything was very clean. I highly recommend for family travel—six people would not feel crowded in the room. Also good for business travel since it had a large desk, good lighting and decent WiFi.

I wasnt a fan. I had no idea Williamsburg Inn and Griffin Hotel were separate. I had to park at one, check in and then drive to another down the road. This after I paid $25 to park in the lot. The williamsburg inn as expected was very colonial, looked great. I was sent down the road. My bldg was newer looking on the outside, needed help on the inside. Shower was horrible. Funny to say rooms were dated! Its colonial williamsburg but maybe thats their excuse? Dont think I would stay here again

Our check-in was delayed an hour due to being at max capacity however, due to the close proximity to Merchant's Square, we walked down and enjoyed mulled wine at the Christmas Market until we were notified to check-in. The room is spacious and we will definitely be back!

I was very disappointed with the condition of the hotel and our room. Supposedly the Griffin Hotel has been renovated but it looks shabby. For a hotel associated with The Williamsburg Inn I expected much better. Having stayed here many years ago it appears the furniture is different, but I swear the carpet looks like it is from 1989. I actually checked my photo album when I returned home and I’m fairly certain I'm right. There isnt’t a square foot without stains or spots. We found at least 3 dead bugs, 2 in the room and 1 in the dresser. The bed only had sheets and a thin blanket, no duvet or topper. The extra blanket in the dresser was stained, and had a leaf and/or a bug stuck to it. I swear this blanket was one of the old heavy ones from the Williamsburg Hotels of the 80’s as well. Plastic cups, mismatched and used toiletries, a broken lamp, and a dead light over the sink were things that we dealt with, but other people might not care to.
The size of the room was wonderful and the location of the hotel is as well. It would be a great place to stay if it was truly renovated.

We checked in upon arrival and they gave us a parking pass and we went snd enjoyed Williamsburg. They called when our room was ready. Our room was spacious snd clean. We were able to walk from our room to colonial Williamsburg. I will return to this hotel.

The check in was inconvenient as you have to register at a different hotel down the road. The hotel has no luggage carts or elevator. The toilet did not work and the taps leaked. The wifi is inexistant at least in our room. The bed was sunken in the middle. Only the surroundings outside save it from disaster.

The room was spacious and greatly appreciated by a family with three teenagers. It did smell a bit musky though, maybe it was the antique furniture in the room? We loved the gym, it was top rate for a hotel for sure. The staff was kind, the grounds were gorgeous! Loved the ease of being so close to Colonial Williamsburg. Would totally stay again.

Desperately needs renovation

There were a few major issues with our stay at the Griffin.

1. Check-in was disastrous. The room was not ready at 4, but only b 4:50. We had to check in at the Willlamsburg Inn, which is not the same building. We tried to check in three times,. with deep lines and unhurried receptionists each time. Total time waste -- about an hour.
2. The Griffin is a series of unattended buildings that appear to be of a 1980s vintage and have not been renovated since that time.
3. Did I mention that Hotels.com photos are HIGHLY MISLEADING? I attach photos of our actual room, to which we UPGRADED for an extra $20 per night, resulting gin total charge of $230 per night. Trust me, you would be far better off at Holiday Inn or Fairfield.

The Griffin Hotel has no amenities. You have to go to the Williamsburg Inn for any and everything ~ including a cup of coffee. The shower had ants crawling on the walls. There was hair piled up in a corner of the bathroom. There were only plastic and paper cups ~ no glassware. We waited at the Williamsburg Inn bar for 15 minutes for a bartender.

Nice room but more than a few little things wrong

The room itself was fine. It was the incidentals that were a problem. The coffee maker was terrible, making lukewarm terrible coffee. The hairdryer was old but worse was the electric didn’t work. Call to get assistance because we were trying to get out the door, but it took a while. Housekeeping was only requested one day and they did the bare minimum of bed and towels and may be cleaned a sink. The rug be the vacuuming. The other thing was that the air conditioner had a musty smell. All of these are just little things, but it is not a cheap hotel and I think they should be fixed.
We also used the spa it was OK, but I think the problem is really what we picked to have done. Stick with the Massage . we also went to the bar to have drinks and snacks at the outdoor bar. That was a wonderful experience and would highly recommend the amenities and surroundings are beautiful. If it wasn’t for the few things that could be easily fixed the rating would be much higher.

The hotel is conveniently located across the street to Colonial Williamsburg. The building looks like an apartment complex converted into an hotel. I did not see an elevator so we had to take our luggage through the stairs. I am glad it was only one floor. I looked and looked and did not see an elevator. Found that strange.

Accommodations were fine just furniture looks very antique but odd chairs and other items that do not match. Room was very spacious and our balcony was very nice. Room was clean.

We stayed for two nights and it was fine.

I was assigned a first-floor room, which was extremely noisy—it felt as though people were sitting directly on my balcony. Beautiful setting in Colonial Williamsburg - if you are fairly mobile, this is great spot within the Colonial area so you can walkl everywhere. The spa gym building is separate but it is a pretty walk behind the sister hotel Williamsburg Inn where you check inn. The place itself was a good sized room and we slept 5 of us for this last minute stay and we normally get separate roomed suites, but this worked fine and was more budget friendly. The room itself was not super modernly updated, but it was fine, big, quiet, and peaceful. Great job!

I was blown away! I booked the hotel because of the convenience, which was very understated. You are right in Colonial Williamsburg. My room was absolutely enormous with a fireplace, outstanding air conditioning, and two showers. I will be staying here again.

The room and convenience were not the best part. The service was truly remarkable. It was what I get at a Conrad, Ritz Carlton, or fine hotel in Paris. Dan, Tim, and the concierge were indescribable! They made me feel like I was the only guest with their tailored service. We were offered water, got special rates on tickets from the concierge, coupons for dining and shopping and a map with suggested places to go. I also recommend lunch at the Golden Horseshoe Gold Club behind the Inn for lunch.

Tip: When you check in, it’s not at the Griffin, it’s at the Williamsburg Inn.

Staff helpful. Room was very large with a nice balcony. Convienent walking distance to activities. A bit odd to be in a hotel that is not connected to the courtesy desk or the other hotel options. Building Green by the tennis court which made checking in a hassle. Google maps will lead you to a parking lot a good distance from the main building which is obscured by trees so walked around for 15 minutes trying doors to the green building which are keycard locked. Courtesy phone did not work. Eventually saw there was a sign (small) that reads Griffin hotel check in but since never there, was relying on Google maps. I admittedly may have missed some instructions on email/text.

Beautiful property to stay at, but there are a few things to discuss. I reported a few issues to the front desk that I am told will be address with maintenance. Two of the three bulbs above the glass sliding doors did not work, one of the bulbs in the lamp was still using a mercury bulb which was blown out and had to be discarded. The safe did not work at all and required new batteries. None of these really detracted from our experience, but we felt that these issues should be corrected for the next guests.
Also, the WiFi signal in this building was abysmal and I ended up just using my cellular connection most of the time. There is no option to use an Ethernet connection either. Either that or the device that I found that has Ethernet jacks on it doesn’t work. The WiFi network provided seems to be the public WiFi provided by Colonial Williamsburg, not their now. The green and gold buildings detached from The Griffin really need their own WiFi networks. Please provide the option to use an Ethernet connection as well, some people prefer that due to having better security and reliability.
The location of the building is a stones-throw away from the historic area and directly behind the King’s Arms Tavern, and we absolutely loved how close we were to the historic area. This is probably one of the best reasons to stay here in my opinion.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and would come again, but likely we would try to stay in the main building next time.

The internet service in the room that we were assigned to was faulty. I called both the front desk and the technical support number to report this on the first night, but the service problem was not corrected. The next day I personally went to the front desk and spoke to Tim, who said the he would see that the problem was remedied, but did not receive a call back from him, and when I returned to my room (3412) the problem was still not fixed, and Tim was gone for the day. So I personally went to the front desk again. The person at the front desk called tech support and I was told that it was a counter issue that they would correct. But again when I returned to my room I still could not connect with the internet. So I went back a 3rd time to the front desk, and asked them if they would give me another room that had functioning internet, which they did (3539). I was satisfied that ultimately my problem was solved, albeit arduously, and because of my perseverance. Apparently there is some inherent connectivity problem on the first floor of the building I was originally assigned to. The staff should have been aware of that; but even if they were not, the most customer oriented solution would have been to offer another room as soon as I reported back (on the first night) that the tech support fix was not successful. This was our second visit to the Griffin, and it did not disappoint. I have lived in apartments that were considerably smaller than this room. It was absolutely gorgeous and well-furnished. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were a couple of non-functioning outlets (we had to shift the fridge and coffee machine to get power) and the hvac unit motor came on somewhat loud, so it’s showing its age, but I’d be happy to stay here again.

Our stay in the Green Wing at the Griffin Hotel on April 26, 2025:
- Convenient location in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg
- Deluxe king room with sofa bed is quite large, though dated
- Shower had not been cleaned. Used toiletries were still on the shelf in the shower.
- Sofa cushions were stained
- The outside door to the parking lot did not open properly. Required three attemptd and a hard shove to get it to open. FIRE HAZARD.
We reported these issues to the front desk. They gave us a $25 credit toward the resort fee, which was inadequate. A follow up call to management yield on offer of $75 towards dining if we made a return visit.
The condition of the room and the building is below expectations for a property in this price range.

This is not an actual hotel, it is more like an outbuilding for overflow from the Williamsburg Inn. That said it is clean, convenient, affordable, room has a wonderful balcony, beautiful landscaping, fountains ponds and everything you would like for a wonderful restful time in CW. It’s also extremely close to everything you want to get to like the Kings arms Tavern, etc.

No there are no on-site amenities, no food or vending machines. But bottles of water can be delivered from the Inn and every request was met very promptly to our great satisfaction.

Would stay there again.

It's the little things that count; both good & bad

We won't be staying at the Griffin but will come back to Colonial Williamsburg. This hotel was the price of a Marriot with the amenities of a Motel 6. It was mostly clean (the heat vents on the floor hadn't been cleaned in ages by the looks of them) and the beds were comfortable. However, we had to hunt to find blankets. They were in the dresser with a broken knob. The outlets were all on the floor which meant bending under things to charge up our phones. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling I didn't get a picture of. The carpeting probably was from the 1970's - it wasn't anything big that was wrong but a lot of little things that added up. Since Williamsburg shuts down at 5 pm and dinner only takes so long, we ended up in the room a lot.

The staff at the Williamsburg Inn, where you check in, were all amazing however. Everyone we talked to was helpful and attempted to get answers for us. Really, we will come back just never to the Griffin.

The setting back in the woods is very nice and peaceful. The room was nice, but a little bit tired. The room was very big, with two queens and a sofa bed - it would be a good place for a family. It could use better lighting both in the bathroom and the main room area. It always felt a little big dim in there. There was something sticky on the bathroom floor - seemed like it was something that needed to be scraped off and that hadn't been done.

My biggest complaint is that there is no food or room service of any kind in the hotel. There isn't even a water bottle filling station. There is a vending machine for sodas and theoretically one for snacks, but the snack machine was completely empty. There isn't even an address for the hotel, so I couldn't figure out a way to order delivery.

Okay Stay but Wouldn’t Recommend

This hotel felt like the forgotten cast off of the nicer Inn next door. The room was outdated and rundown including a sink that wouldn’t drain and a broken towel rack. There wasn’t any complimentary water bottles and the vending machine was broken so you really need to bring your own refreshments and snacks. The room size was good and it’s certainly a convenient location to Colonial Williamsburg but I was underwhelmed.

I went on her and saw an 8.8 excellent rating. Sorry, this is not true, I should have taken pictures I dropped something behind the bed and had to retrieve it so dirty. It is definitely in need of an upgrade, smells moldy and pictures of the original building on the walls says 1970. My husband said its ok its only for one night. The area defiantly needs newer hotels. I would hope when people see the pictures like I did it is of the main hotel where you check in which was the Williamsburg Inn.

Lovely facility - Friendly Staff - Very convenient

Check in was very good, the staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was enormous and comfortable. It did smell of smoke however (there is a real fireplace in the room). There were small things that could have been improve, The shower shelf was tilted so nothing would stay on it, the toilet was quite low, which matters to older folk. The interesting thing is the guide said Fox News was on channel 22, but channel 22 was MTV. There was a gap in the channel Guide listing between 60 and 65, Guess what FN was 64, so you really had to hunt for it...hmmm

It was very quiet during our stay, which I like. However, the interior is quite old and looks as if it is not clean. There is also no microwave in the room.

Next door to the Williamsburg Inn, so perfect location. Very large room perfect for family w king bed and pull out couch, table and chairs, 2 sinks, balcony with a pond view.

Nice to check in at the Inn now, so you can wait there when your room isn't ready on time. Pretty setting. Chipped paint and damaged toilet seat indicate the bathroom could use some sprucing up. Comfortable bed.

The employees were courteous & friendly. The room was spacious but dated. It needed painting and the sofa had spots and extremely stained. The carpet was old, coming up and rolled in a few locations. There is no elevator to the second floor making it difficult for seniors or handicapped folks. When checking out we were charged $ 32.00 per day for parking, use of the pool and gym. We were advised of those facilities when checking in but not told there would be a fee to use them. It is a great location to old colonial section 0f Williamsburg.

If you're looking for a convenient clean room for the night this is a terrible option. Its a resort, better suited for travelers that want to be pampered.
This was the worst check in experience I've been through. While the check in staff was excellent, be aware (as I wasnt) that the check location is an entirely different name than the hotel. Williamsburg Inn I believe. Parking is incredibly inconvenient everywhere on site. The room was in a location about 1/4 to half mile away, down pitch black roads.
The room itself was impeccable in every way.

Griffin was a wonderful property. Check in location was a bit tough due to dim lighting and rainy condition. Grounds and all staff were amazing through out he property, including the spa staff.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Griffin Hotel. The outdoor space is wonderful and very well maintained. We really enjoyed the balcony off our room overlooking the pond. The walking convenience to Colonial Williamsburg is very nice. The negative side was the room itself. It really needs updating and had a musty smell. The furniture was pretty beat up and the sofa had several large stains. It made the room feel not as clean as it could/ should have been.

This property is within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg and restaurants at merchant square. The room was large.
