Worst motel

It was gross. The hotel was sketchy with a weird man hanging around the front of the hotel. The bathtub was rusted and chipping. The pillows smelled like urine which made my hair stink and to make it all worse there was no late check out and the property manager literally waited outside my door as I was trying to get my things and leaves. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The whole experience was horrible.

Considering it was only $60 and near Busch Gardens/Colonial Williamsburg, it was very nice! You get what you pay for. My bf didn't find the beds to be very comfortable, but they were fine for me. Note: the only ventilation you'll get in the bathroom is a window. There are no fans or vents in there.

Unassuming and surprisingly comfortable. All rooms were on the ground floor which made for easy access. I was able to park directly in front of my room, Check in and check out was customer friendly and effortless. I am mostly pleased by the cleanliness of the room and updated photos of a model room. This is the first motel I booked that did not smell like smoke or smelled unclean. I will definitely use this motel again.

My Experience was there was great. Friendly staff as always and rooms where cleaned and smell fresh as we walked in. I was suppose to check in at 2 but called hotel at 11 and they already had a room ready for me.
This is my 3rd time stating here and trust me when I say there will be more stays here.

It was great for the price (I think I paid $50 a night). This is a no frills motel. The bed is comfortable and it was relatively quiet. However, I could hear the people and tv in the room next to mine. I just turned on the fan. It’s in a convenient location to the freeway and to colonial Williamsburg. There is a bbq restaurant walking distance from the motel but I didn’t get a chance to try it.

Great value for the price.... budget motel!

Room was exactly as advertised and other reviews were accurate. Clean, comfortable room for your overnight usage. Budget friendly and fine for our 4 night stay. You get what you pay for. Only negative mentions were towels being very thin, could use more lighting by the desk area and A/C could use an upgrade but it was OK, although I like it quite cold when I sleep.

I chose this property based on the previous rating and felt like I was mislead. The upholstered furniture was molding in the corners. I wouldn't sit in them. When I was checking the bed for cleanliness I found a dirty washcloth in-between the mattress and the head board. If it wasn't for me checking in as late as I did, and the perceived availability for the other hotels in the area, I would have requested a refund and gone elsewhere.

No more cheap hotels for me!

Old place, location nice close to interstate. AC didn’t work well, crack in shower head, had put washcloth over connection keep from spraying everything in the bathroom. Very basic, back to the 60’s for sure. Came back around 9, and people who live there smoking - sitting around my room. Room smelled like cigarettes. People who own or run the motel are very sweet. Also, the bedroom window was cracked from something hitting the window.

This is our second stay at this little motel. Very friendly staff, and while our stay last time was comfortable, our stay this second time was even more so, as our rooms (and others in process) had new mattresses, chairs, and lights.

In addition, the location is great not just for Williamsburg, but also for ease of access to the highway to shoot to, say, VA Beach for the day.

All the basics were covered at a reasonable price. I liked being given the option of (daily) room service upon check-in. (I declined it.) Didn't care for the extremely bright exterior lights--although I realize that's the trend these days. Not sure why the covered drive-through at the front entrance has been closed off. (Would have appreciated it at check-out, since it was pouring rain.)

Great rates, service, location, and cleanliness. It is close to Busch Gardens, shopping, and restaurants so we loved that. We didn’t need a place that had a pool, game rooms, or scheduled activities since we planned to spend all of our time away from the room. Bassett Motel gave us an affordable and clean place to sleep when we finished all of our vacation activities and it is definitely worth consideration!

I was kind of hesitant at first to book this hotel given the extremely affordable price, but after reading other reviews, I decided to go ahead and book it. I'm so glad I did! The staff was extremely friendly,and I thought the room was really cute! It's definitely a \"no frills\" kind of hotel, but that was perfectly fine with us given we weren't planning to spend much time in our room. The location was also fantastic: about 10 minutes to Colonial Williamsburg, and about 5 minutes from Busch Gardens. I will definitely consider returning to the Basset Motel if ever in the Williamsburg area again!

Great room for the price! It was clean and neat. The bathroom was clean. Great shower pressure. The building is old but it is well taken care of. The owners were friendly and polite when I checked in. The only bug was bright light coming in around the non-blackout curtains from street lights right outside the room. It kept me awake the first night. I covered it up with towels on the second night and slept very well. Despite the light issue I give them five stars and a ton of thanks for offering a great room at a great in-season price.

I have stayed here my last 3 visits to Williamsburg. Nothing fancy, probably a mid 1900s motel (AKA: motor lodge) but clean & convenient with friendly staff. I'm only interested in a place to sleep with good internet.

Price was inexpensive and location was great to Kingsmill Resort and Busch Gardens. Place is old but it was clean and had fridge and microwave in room I had. I stayed 3 nights, room was not cleaned after 1st night. I inquired and they said they would clean room after 2nd night for stays longer than 2 days, but they did not clean the room after 2nd night either. Not a big deal, but trash piled up and I had to go to office to get more towels. You get what you pay for.

On the plus side, the room, for the most part, was clean. It just needs a good \"spring clean\" to dust off the baseboards and the tops of window sills and the clothes rack and clean the doors. (I dusted what I could, given my allergies.) The bed was comfortable and the pillows the best I've had in a while. It's definitely 60s vintage, especially the bathroom. The a/c and wi-fi worked fine and the roof looks new - no problems with leaks during a set of fierce storms. You just need to plan ahead and bring kleenex, ice, glasses/cups (two plastic ones were provided), and a binder clip or clothespin to securely close the blackout curtains. There is also no coffee maker (not a problem for me) or hotel-provided breakfast, but if you loop around to Merrimac Trail (VA 143) you'll find diners, restaurants, and convenience and food stores. Trains run the track across York Street a few times a day, but the noise is not bad. The exterior is kept up (nice flowers - but the beds may have been the source of sugar ants that got into my car). All rooms are non-smoking. So all things considered, this is a decent place to stay if you're looking for a budget-friendly place to sleep and don't mind bringing some supplies.

The price was great for its location, but the rooms are in need of updating. It was reasonably clean and and comfortable but there are no electrical outlets near the sink and the one near the bed is not grounded. If you travel with a power strip and an adapter, you can plug in your electronics near the bed, otherwise you have to scatter them around the room.

It was convenient as far as being literally 5 minutes from Busch Gardens and a straight shot from there, but the pictures online did not look like the actual motel room. I was severely disappointed and almost frightened at how shady it looked at night. The room carpets were stained as were the walls. The bathroom was not so clean. I didn’t feel comfortable using the towels, really. It wasn’t terrible but I don’t think I’d come here again.

The appearance of property was unsat along with outside bed/grounds was fill with tall grass and vines crawling on side of bldg. Inside not to so bad and outside needs lots of work. Drive in to office feels like a run down and empty place.

This is the BEST KEPT SECRET in Williamsburg. This is a great 2-star hotel for staying a few nights in Williamsburg. No Frills, just a good clean room where everything works. There's no pool and no coffee maker. No breakfast but plenty of places nearby. It's basically two rows of ground floor motel rooms (probably 20 rooms). Excellent exterior lighting, parking in front of room. Old decor, old rooms but clean and well maintained. Bathroom is clean. Does have cable TV and Wifi. Old fashioned real key to get in and out of room. We stayed 2 nights and had a blast. Easy access to and from attractions. For $60 per night, best deal in town on a July 4th.

This is not a really bad motel, but nothing to brag about either. If you just want something to get some rest on a budget, it's OK. If you expect amenities, you won't find them here.
NO RESTAURANT ONSITE as was described. There is a BBQ joint a short walk away, but not onsite.
NO COFFEE IN THE ROOM. Not something promised, but seems like most other places have this. I don't know if they have it in the office as I checked out and headed for a breakfast diner early.
The room was OK, clean enough, and pretty well kept. Could use some updates, but for the price, it was fine. Bed was pretty soft, but again, worth what I paid.
This was a one night between hotels for me, moving from a 4 star resort to a Westin. Again, I got what I paid for, but just don't go in expecting a lot.

I don't believe the furnishings have been replaced in the past 30-40 years. Burn marks and damage on most everything. Toilet seat was too big for toilet. Ceramic surfaces stained. Still, for the cost and the Williamsburg area, this was good value for the money I guess.

Motel not fit for stay

I booked a room and specified late check-in. When I arrived, there was no one at the desk initially. Several minutes later, an unkept manager appeared. It was clear that he just woke up. There was some communication issues initially. I was trying to specify that I needed to check-out early [around 7AM]. The hotel manager continued to state that the latest check-out time was 11AM. As it was late, I left confused and took my hotel key [physical key, not a card] and went back to my room. The room was very warm/muggy upon arrival. The AC unit was very old. This hotel looks like it was last renovated in the 70s or 80s. In the morning, I left soon after waking up and when trying to check-out, I found that the door to the office was locked. I knocked loudly on the door to try to wake someone. It was ~630AM. Even though the hotel services specifies 24-hour check-in, the office was locked and I needed to leave immediately. I had to leave my key under a flower pot next the front office. I called multiple times later that day to try to get a hold of the hotel staff, but I could never get through. I had to call Expedia to have them contact the hotel and explain the situation. This was a terrible experience and I would never recommend staying at this hotel..

To be honest, we were barely there, as we went to water country/busch gardens early every day, and came back late every night. This motel is very close to both parks, which was great. The room was clean and very quiet, and they didn't mind us coming in very late on our first night. I would say the only drawback is that the beds, though very comfortable, are very small. They're definitely not queens, so I guess they are full size. Been a while since hubby and I squeezed into one of those. All in all it was a nice stay, and we would stay again.
