Very dated room but attention was made to make it feel homey. Very clean. Unfortunately for me very dark and the light fixture was broken ( the staff was helpful and had it fixed the next day but I already have a visual handicap so the darkness was frustrating) Everyone I met was very friendly and helpful.

This was in a great, walkable neighborhood. We enjoyed a walk all the way to the tide pools. There is a fireplace and hot tub, but we didn't take advantage of them.

I would not recommend staying here. First of all the picture by the ocean is deceiving. This property is not right on the ocean, Although it is within walking distance to the ocean, it’s still several blocks away.
Secondly, the Internet is horrible. I was in room 424 and I was supposed to be there for six nights and I was unable to plan activities unless I drove offsite. I did mention it to staff after 3 nights and ended up getting changed to a king size room, which was an upgrade and somehow the internet was better.
The maid service left a lot to be desired, there was no consistency… Sometimes they took the garbage and left fresh towels and left the bed unmade, other times they made the bed (only because I asked) but didn’t leave any clean towel towels. It was frustrating especially when I asked specifically.
Due to the numerous frustrations, I ended up checking out two days early and was told the penalty for early checkout was one nights fee. I was willing to accept that, but I still haven’t been reimbursed for the second night. The manager refused to reimburse me for the second night stating I needed to contact Expedia (even though I paid at the hotel). Expedia told me they could not get a hold of him and had tried several times. I pretty much lost two nights expenses.
So no, I don’t recommend staying here. I did not use the hot tub, but it didn’t look that clean and that’s why I stayed out of it. The price is expensive for what you get. Much of it needed updating.

The staff were great and helpful and even were helpful with recommendations. The hot tub and fire pit were great. We were there for a wedding on Friday and Saturday and spent Sunday sightseeing. Gave us plenty of time to rest and relax in the room and hot tub. We didn't have any issues with parking as we were able to park right outside our door. The only time I saw it pretty full was Saturday night.

The 2-room cottage was perfect for traveling with teenagers - everyone had their own space! Bathrooms have barn doors, so you need to be comfortable with being able to hear everything. We loved this location and the small hotel vibe! Teens loved the hot tub area!

Parking was great. The location is fantastic. Room was clean. It was convenient having the mini fridge and microwave. We had trouble controlling the temperature of the room so we just opened the windows and used the box fan provided. The room is pretty basic but it was just what we needed.

We checked in and unpacked in our room and then went to dinner and a movie. When we returned and got into bed, there was the sound of an animal in our wall heater at 11:00pm that we could hear scratching around and maybe building a nest or eating. We tried to bang on it to scare whatever it was out but it persisted to make noise. When we called the night attendant, he didn’t check it out but did give us a new room.

But the room they gave us was about half the size compared to the room we were in, with limited furnishings and no luggage holders so our bag had to lay on the floor, giving us less space n the room. The shower head was old and the curtain allowed water to get onto the bathroom floor.

When we talked to the front desk the next morning, he acted as if we were not inconvenienced at all and said the room was the same and the most recently renovated. We were surprised there wasn’t much concern to deal with the critter in the original room. Hope no one else has to deal with that. It was room 431. They offered no discount and made us feel we were the offending party. So much for customer service.

Because of the good reviews I read, I trusted this hotel and booked it, but I am taking the time to warn others so no one else falls into this trap. We paid about $810 for two nights, and it was a complete disaster.
The room we received was not what we were promised by the front desk, Roy, and the room was filthy, disorganized, and chaotic, with no assigned parking, constant noise, and no peace at all.

When I called to raise my concerns to the manager Aaron, he was shockingly rude, he interrupted me repeatedly, never apologized for the incorrect room, and showed zero professionalism.

Instead of listening, he kept cutting me off, and in the end, he just hung up on me.

After all this, he still refused to refund us for the second night we did not stay.
The entire experience was dirty, unpleasant, and completely unacceptable. Please see the picture below for yourself. If you want a real relaxing stay in Pacific Grove, go to the Monarch Resort across the street.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!—you will regret it.

Friendly reception. Clean room. Internet was not good, the tv had comcast so there was no way to connect to other apps. The shower was clean and very small. Bring your own conditioner the shampoo was very cheap like glue texture. Nice hot water. The hot tub is old, we didn’t get it. The yard was clean but there were planters by the room with dead plans or just dirt. The place is pet friendly so be aware! We had a neighbor that went out to see the sunrise and left the dog hollowing at 5 am!!! And on!!! Close the the beaches but there are lots of places to stay in the area!

I’d give this property 1 star out of 5, and only because of the location. Otherwise, it would be a zero.
The room was a total disappointment. There were cracked floor tiles throughout, a toilet that ran constantly, a sink faucet that moved when turning it on and off, and a crooked shower curtain rod. The in-room central air and heat did not work; instead, there was a box fan and space heater left in the closet, as if that somehow made up for it.
The kitchenette was just as bad. It had a tiny 3-foot-wide table that was completely insufficient for the four chairs around it, and the freezer had at least 2 inches of frost buildup. The TV cable box was dangling from the wall by its wires. The Wi-Fi could barely hold a signal and repeatedly asked for the password.
The owners should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the property to fall into this condition. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. There are plenty of other inns nearby. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The Monterey Peninsula Inn (MPI) is an amazing property for the value. Since October'ish 2020 my wife and I have made several trips each year from Arizona to Pacific Grove...we really do enjoy decompressing and relaxing in this small hidden-jewel of a community. We found MPI on our second trip and have not looked to stay anywhere else since. Situated on a quite street near the beginning of 17 Mile Drive, it hits the mark on all of the important items: overall room cleanliness, comfortable / clean beds (which are really the most important feature for any hotel establishment, agreed?) and the Inn is perfectly located within a very short walk's distance (not hike) to the ocean. The property also has a small pool and fire pit which both make for an excellent post-sunset end-of-day gathering area. And all of this at a very resonable price point.

During each of our stays, Annette and Michael have always been courteous, profession, and helpful...MPI's owners should be aware of how valuable they are to someone's overall stay experience.

That said, future patrons should be mindful that MPI is not equal to \"The Inn at Spanish Bay\"...if you want those amenities, have those expectations and are willing to spend four-figures, then by all means go to a 5-Star. MPI is an excellent choice for anyone desiring a clean, comfortable and quiet room to use as a \"base camp\" for enjoying and exploring Asilomar Beach, Pacific Grove and the Monterey Peninsula/Carmel area.

This was perfect for a last minute stop on our road trip. No frills, but clean, great location, and accommodating staff. We knew we'd be arriving after midnight, so called ahead, and the front desk arranged our room with a self-service lock box, and also gave us the number for the overnight attendant should we need anything.

Can't beat parking right in front of your door after a long day of driving and a car full of gear. We even had time for a quick hot tub soak for our sore muscles the next morning!

(1) The room had no useable wifi/Internet except that we could send emails. We could not stream a video, even at 3:45 pm. I could not download an article in a magazine. At first we were put in room 401, which had such a low level of wifi that our tablets could not see the motel's network. Then we were put in room 404, which had more strength but still was basically unusable. Even when I had 2 bars' strength out of 4, the wife/Internet was no good, so the data rate at the motel's connection to the Internet must be totally insufficient.
(2) The room 401 that we were put into first was tiny, not at all like any of the photos on Expedia for the place. There was about 1 ft on each side of the bed, and 2 chairs and a small table were crammed in at the foot of the bed, then came the door.
(3) The bathroom needs maintenance.
(4) We stayed from Friday to Sunday, and the total price was $245 average per night.

The location is the best as it's near to ocean and pretty much everything is nearby within a 10 min drive that you could need. Front desk staff is amazingly helpful. The rooms are nicely decorated. Bed is super comfortable.

We had such a nice stay at the Monterey Peninsula Inn. The location is absolutely perfect. It is close to everything, and a short drive down to Big Sur, or up to Santa Cruz. But exploring Monterey was so much fun as well. The room wasn't anything too impressive, although it did have a full (small) kitchen, which was great and very convenient. All pots, pans, silverware, plates, cups, and others were supplied. The fridge is a small dorm room one, but it worked out for us. The staff was wonderful and very nice. I loved that the rooms were all having their front doors right to the parking lot. That made it very convenient for us to load our dog in the car. I would absolutely love to stay here again in the future!

We arrived and couldn't shower because there was no hot water. The heater in the room also didnt work but every room has its own personal heater, unfortunately there was a short and we didnt have electricity becaue of it. Fortunately the staff was very quick to help us out and let us use a separate room for the shower temporarily until we had hot water. The electricty situation was also handled very quickly. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
