This place is a lovely, hidden away sanctuary. It was incredibly quiet and exactly what we needed for a relaxing break away from home.

Don't expect anything flashy here, but they have absolutely nailed the basics. The kitchen and bathroom are newly renovated and had everything we needed, and the bed was super comfy. For our family of four, the Chalet layout was just perfect.

Honestly, you cannot beat the price for this level of peace and comfort. We were really happy with our stay and would definitely return!

Clean and tidy room comfy Clean beds and bathroom. Peaceful, private quiet. Exterior of this facility is run down however our room was good owners are friendly. Affordable place of the beatrn track a bit. Close to everything we wanted to do in Taupo really easy to get around from here. If you are after luxury accommodation this isn't for you as far as cheaper accommodation goes this was perfect for us and we enjoyed our stay over 2 nights.

Very close - next door to one of the most beautiful parks in Taupo. Spa Park is home to several disc golf tournaments. Hole 6 is right beside the entrance to Grandeur. Very handy.

The Hotel itself is dated and run down (old heritage quirky). But it suited us as they allow dogs. The inside of our unit was ok and the bed was comfortable and clean. The surrounding grounds are great. A short walk to hot water swimming in the Waikato River. The room rate was very reasonable.

It's different......in a good, unpretenious way. Works every time for me. Not as upmarket as the numerous 5 star accomodation places I've stayed at internationally, but it has a distinct \"kiwiana\" feel to it. Spacious, safe and quiet. My chalet unit was great......room to spread out. Everything was working fine. My accomodation of choice whenever I'm in Taupo. Good work guys.

Room was barely acceptable, very old musty smell in unit. Bathroom door was very hard to slide and would not shut completely, toilet seat was loose and moved when you sat on it.
The kitchen while clean and nice, it had nothing in the way of cooking utensils at all. We had to wash before use all cups, cutlery and plates as none appeared properly clean. The \"resort\" is none existing and very very old and run down.

The main building is of an era and a style!! The place is only staffed at certain times so make sure you have everything checked & sorted after you arrive. The motel building is further along and looks a fright from the outside lol - hard to tell style & design from plain old upkeep lol - potentially the architect went overboard on the exterior - but don't be put off. Our room was spotless, towels & beds beautifully made, fridge on and chilled and in a very much appreciated gesture the heat pump had been turned on to warm the room as despite it being summer it was a bit cold in Taupo. The room is basic and adequate, we charged phones, watched TV, heated food, for dinner, ate breakfast, made tea, refroze our chill packs overnight and our travel food went safely into the fridge. The shower was hot. Staff were courteous, communicative and when I mistakenly drove away with the key still my pocket were exceptionally helpful for me to get it back to them. Would I stay again? Yes. The name and imagery are incongruent and provide a smile, the inside is clean, nicely presented the basics are done well, and it's good for the price. We had room 206.

I felt unsafe when I pulled up at reception. The building was run down and looked awful. The units where I would have stayed looked ok from the outside I have to say but over the other side were some really run down units with rather off putting inhabitants. I went to another motel for the night.

This was my 2nd time staying here. All the staff were friendly and helpful, as were the neighbouring guests. The room was clean and tidy, although a bit tired but not a problem when the price reflects this.

The Clay Target Shooting Club could start later on a Sunday morning out of respect for the guests of this normally tranquil place.

We stayed a few weeks ago. We booked for 2 nights and we shocked when we arrived at how run down the outside and surroundings was. As we drove down the bumpy gravel driveway around to the accommodation, I felt a little unsafe. The rooms were small but clean, however not a true representation of what we had seen on the website. The bathroom had no extractor fan (so smelt damp), water pooled in the bottom of the shower, the mirror was all corroded around the outside, the floor tiles were missing grouting and the paint all over the roof beams looked terrible. We tried to use the air con, but when we turned it on it smelt bad so turned off. TV in room was not great as signal kept cutting out. Feel it was overpriced for what it was. We were booked to stay another night a few days later on our return to Taupo however we cancelled and found an alternative resort.

The air conditioner was in the main room - two rooms and a hallway away from the bedroom, so the place stayed pretty hot. There was need for updating, and the walls are thin as we could hear the people in the rooms next to us going up their stairs to their twin bed loft area.

The actual property looks quite different to how the website and booking sites present it. The place is very run down with the sign falling off, looks abandoned on arrival and does not really deserve the name “grandeur” or “resort“. Reception area is quite rough and dirty looking despite the staff being friendly enough. The room on arrival smell wierd but seemed to air out over time. Sheets and beds were clean and nice but the couch was so old and stained we had to request a sheet to lay on top of it. The bathroom had been done up which was good and clean. Overall just seemed very run down for what we paid. The main issue, is it is not accurately presented on the websites.

Room although clean was sparsely equipped: no where to hang clothes. No light switches near bed. Had to fumble to find bed in dark after switching off light. Soap dispensers in bathroom empty. TV reception very poor with constant picture and sound failure. Grounds around hotel were extremely overgrown and unkempt. Derelict buildings scattered around. Needs a huge renovation project.

When you arrive the reception building looks a bit run down. But the rooms are separate houses further away surrounded by nature and a little stream running in front. The rooms are very clean, new towels and bedsheets and the bathroom is modern and newly renovated. Also had a spa bath in a backroom. It's spacious and super quiet, apart from the singing birds. Highly recommend.

The room we had was actually pretty nice. I have read some mixed reviews but my 14 and 10 year old daughters and I found it fine for our 1 night stay in Taupo. It's further out from the town area but we had a car so wasn't too worried. The area itself did look a bit old and reception area run down but it was cheap and the shower was warm, bathroom clean, room itself was warm enough and beds fine. Would stay again if I had to.

Basic but neatly presented room, clean enough. Location is nice if you like a quiet area, but still close enough/short drive to key areas like Huka Falls and Taupo town centre. Soundproofing is not the best though so expect to hear your neighbour moving about. The room was listed as having a hairdryer but this was not there upon check-in. Went to ask reception the next day but reception was unmanned, so I just skipped and air-dried… no biggie, just a small irk.

Parking is very easy, right outside your room on a gravel area.

The linen/towels etc were nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable but the level of maintenance for the whole property was very poor. I imagine that it was a lovely property and with some scrubbing of the walls and waterblasting and painting e.g the railings outside the rooms would really help. Yes there'd been some extremely heavy rain and gumboots, if we had some to get through the large puddles outside the rooms. It could look really nice again with some physical effort.

Honestly, when i arrived the first impressions were: \"Have I been scammed? Is this place still open?\" I couldnt see anyone around and the buildings looked pretty run down. However, I did receive a very warm welcome and the room was very clean and well put together. The place is dated. However, it is comfortable and fine if you dont need to walk anywhere for anything.

A beautiful, remote location. Its a bit more on the run down/diy improvement feel. They have tried to do up the bathrooms and kitchens, which looked nice until you look a bit closer and some mistakes were made.

The soa bath was a nice surprise, a bit run down again in the room.

Overall a nice, quiet place for families, playground on site.

If you want '5-star rock-star' type accommodation then best you look elsewhere......BUT........if you want good honest comfortable and authentic 'kiwiana' accommodation at an affordable price look no further.

I stayed there for x3 nights whilst site seeing the district and have no regrets at all. Bed was very comfortable and warm (resulting in a continuous 8hrs sleep every night) , room cosey and warm (thanks to efficient heat pump for chilly nights), strong wifi, almost instant really hot water, adequate kitchette area for heating up pre-prepared meals bought with me, and with complimentary tea/coffee/sugar and salt/pepper sachets, tv, separate bathroom with good hot water and tap pressure, etc, etc.

Yes the walls between units are a tad thin and the grounds a bit tired looking and 'this and that', but it's real and has a unique character - it's different and safe. Worked for me and if you open your mind and relax a little it will work for you also.

A bonus is that the highly rated AC Baths Taupo Swimming Pool complex is only a 5 minute walk away as is a really good bakery/cafe for those wanting/needing an early morning barista coffee fix and food to accompany........Stuart in Tauranga

Pros: spa bath was nice. Room was warm with heat pump and fan heater on when we arrived. and looked clean and tidy at first glance , reception friendly. Nice Reno in room too. Price was right.
Cons: outside very rundown giving a bad first impression. 1 hair in shower and soaps scum needed a deep clean. No extra blankets, mezzanine bedroom was warm with heat pump but back room was cold. fan heater provided but didn’t want to leave that on all night, an extra thick blanket for downstairs would be good. Some glasses were dirty.

The room is tired looking and needed a good clean. The amenities were really old. Outside the balustrade needed to be repainted and the grounds were need of maintenance. Perfect place for an overnight stay where you only need a bed. The tv only has free view and is so old most of the apps on it are no longer available.

Delusions of grandeur resort

A couple of positives to start. The location is good - it is right at the head of a trail that will take you to Otumuheke Stream and Huka Falls.

This property is a good price but you get what you pay for, it is in appalling condition. The walls are paper thin, so it is not soundproof and very cold at night (though there are heaters). It rained one of the nights we were there and there was a small leak in the ceiling. Fortunately the drips landed next to the bed and not on top of anyone, but still, that's probably what contributed to the mould problem.

The carpet was absolutely disgusting. Not recently cleaned (or even vacuumed?) at all. Not great when you have two kids who, by their nature, make regular contact with the floor.

The bathroom is, oddly, seemingly recently renovated compared to the rest of the unit.

It was in a state of disrepair dirty found someones hairn my bed.

It isn't advertised honestly as the photos are not current or relevant to its current condition. Sofa was absolutely filthy, bedroom door filthy., stairwell filthy drawers dirty . Swimming pool unavailable. My grandaughter said that it had a bad vibe.

The property was just rundown and that includes gardens etc... outside of buildings were just like some one had been living there for 15 years ++ and not done any maintenance. What a rip off.

Good location close to thermal pools and Huka Falls walk.
Parts of chalet had been remodelled and were in good condition, other parts were dated and need repairing. No dishes suitable for cooking in the microwave (no stove provided), mould in shower, only one bed side table and the base of that was broken! They did provide Tesla chargers though! and the cleaner was helpful and engaging.

The property has so much potential, as the natural setting and proximity to the river are key aspects. The structures and grounds are poorly maintained, though. There is a lot of mold on the windows. There is no extraction fan in the bathroom and no window. The kitchenette was missing a coffee press and cooktop. The fire alarm was overly sensitive and went off when the toaster was used, even though the toast was not done (other guests had this same issue). The chalets are noisy, and one night, the guests adjacent had small children running up and down the stairs for hours and playing loud music, making it difficult to relax in our space. The \"spa\" is simply a large bathtub. For nearly $200 per night, we were quite disappointed. So much potential, but not up to scratch.

If you want just a basic place to stay at a cheap price this place is great. Especially if you have dogs. I paid $258 for 2 nights mid week which included $40 for having my 2 dogs stay. I was in room 303 which was a spa chalet. I loved the spa room off the downstairs bedroom which had a queen bed that looked reasonably new and was super comfortable. Upstairs was 2 single beds that also looked newish. The bathroom was clean and quite modern. It had everything i needed for my stay. The entire property itself looks very outdated and definitely not the ritz so dont stay here if you have high standards. The price reflects the property and it was perfect for me and my dogs and I would definitely stay here again for that reason. If you want ultra clean and flash then go elsewhere and pay the high price for it. Lots of negative comments on google for this place but I was happy with my spa chalet for the price and to be able to have my dogs stay with me.

Motel is located at private valley. The unit is roomy, with upper floor and 3 beds. Parking is convenient.
