The room was hot and smelled musty (Wren) when I walked in. I immediately opened the windows to try and get rid of the smell, but the windows are on a cable, so don't open very far. The radiator in the bathroom was on full which didn't help matters and I con't think there was a way to turn it off, despite being 16 degrees outside.
When I tried to use the air conditioning, it turned on, but I couldn't get it to blow any air.
To be fair, I didn't report any of the issues as I dragged off my hot motorbike gear and was too exhausted to get dressed and go back downstairs. Staff may well ahve resolved the heat issue for me if I'd asked.
Slept with the window open all night, but luckily it was quiet - absolutely no noise from outside despite being a pub.
On the positive side, the bed was really comfy, pillows were good and I was given somewhere out of sight to park the motorbike where I could chain it to a post. The staff are really friendly and helpful too.
Can't comment on breakfast as it starts at 7am and I had already left.

The staff was absolutely lovely, but the photos didn’t ring true to actuality. The carpet was riddled with stains, the room smelled musty, the bathroom toilet lid had permanent scratches that made it feel dirty, the walls were marked with stains and scratches, the ceiling was damaged, and there were termites or flying ants inside near windows. Again, staff was so kind.

Our go-to hotel if we need somewhere to stay before a Heathrow flight. The staff are all very friendly, food is excellent (both dinner and breakfast), plentiful parking. We stayed in an executive room this time - we liked the extra space and would book this again. Last time we were there we were helping some friends who had suffered a tragedy that day, and I managed to knock over a large G&T. Even without knowing what we were dealing with, the lady behind the bar calmly cleared up the mess and sorted a fresh one - no charge and no judgement. We really appreciated her kindness.

I am not sure how a hotel can justify a double room at £123 without breakfast and then charge £5 for a small bottle of water in the room.
Staff were friendly and room was large and clean but whole place needs an update.

This was the loveliest little night away with my daughter. Drinking tea and listening to Classic FM in a big, comfy bed was the literal dream. My only observation was that the towel rail was hotter than the 9th circle and I stupidly burnt my arm.

Really nice pub, good food and drink. Nice rooms, well maintained. The only negatives were that the matress on my bed was really uncomfortable, past its best by a long way. Also, the price of the food was too high for what it was, very nice but a checken burger is not worth £18.95....

(Stayed in Room 2) Firstly the food was absolutely fantastic! I mean wow, wow, wow. Devoured the lot! 5* for the food. We would happily come for dinner again and again. The room was pleasant, clean and the bath was lovely and spacious (could fit two SLIM people satisfactory). Loved the tea selection and mini fridge compliments as well! However, when you opened the cupboard with the ironing board, a smell of mouldy cheese comes wafting out (so I quickly closed that and moved swiftly on) we booked for a king size bed but instead got two single beds pushed together!? Essentially trying to create the illusion of a king size bed… but a terrible idea when you have a crack in the middle between you and your loved one. The bed was uncomfortable, overly bouncy and springy and lacked any sense of comfort so we didn’t sleep great at all and woke up feeling stiff as a rod the following morning so I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight, unless you are willing to pay for a luxury room. However we would highly recommend going for dinner.

The pub is on a busy road but the room was set back from the road and there was no issue with the noise. Plenty of parking available. Unfortunately we stayed on a very hot night, and even with the fan provided we struggled to sleep. The room was very small and had strange plug sockets.Tea & coffee making facilities in the room were good. We chose to have dinner at the hotel and were both very pleased with our meals. We found the older staff to be more attentive than the younger ones, who were more interested in chatting to each other. 25 mins from Heathrow - overall a good option if you don’t like staying in airport hotels, just not on a hot night.

I was called down to Reading for a business meeting. Unfortunately, i am on crutches at the moment, so needed on site parking which most city centre Hotels did not offer, i booked this hotel as it was only a short distance away from my meeting venue, Iwas greeting and checked in by the manager, he then carried my overnight bag to my room for me, (thank you ). The room was lovely and clean with a vast array of nibbles and a well stocked fridge, suppliments applied.
After freshening up i went to the comfortable bar , restaurant and ordered my food, the bar staff took my drink order from the table and brought it to me, the food was first class and very tasty,
all in all a very satisfying stay, top marks to the staff, i would definitely recomend thus as a place to stay.

Cosy hotel just 30 minutes away from Heathrow
Beautiful hotel conveniently located just 30 minutes away from Heathrow airport. The hotel staff were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were tastefully decorated and provided high-quality equipment and products. The breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended.

We were disappointed with our stay. We had 2 nights booked from 1/1-1/3. The hotel did not tell us that the superior room that we reserved (and already paid for) was no longer available. They didn't even tell us at check in!! They just took us to a basic room with no mention of the change. When I went back down to inquire, they said that a \"water issue\" forced the change, but they made no effort to compensate us for the change in reservation. They also did not tell us that on 1/1, our day of arrival, that their reception, bar and restaurant were closing at 5PM. This was our final stop after a long day, and we had planned to settle in with food and drink. Part of the reason we wanted to stay here was because we enjoyed relaxing at the fireplace with a snack and cocktail previously! That did not happen as they were turning out the lights within minutes of our arrival at 5.

We had a bad experience here caused by other guests: at one in the morning, a group of men were standing outside singing and swearing for ages. It woke me up and I couldn’t sleep afterwards. I phoned the desk and left a message on the answerphone but have not had a response. I told the breakfast waiter in the morning and he said he knew who they were, since they had behaved like that the night before as well and were outside when he left at 11.45. He says he had emailed their company and said it was totally unacceptable behaviour as all the other guests had complained. Would I stay here again- doubtful, as we do like to sleep when we go to a hotel!

A good find, I'm pleased I booked here for my 1 night whilst working in the area. The room was very pleasant with the added bonus of air con, which in this weather, and being in the roof space, was really needed. I stayed for the evening meal, it was ok and breakfast was a good start to the day. A tip for the chefs though, brioche buns only need a light toasting, not a full on nuclear attack. That aside The Bird in Hand lived up to its scores. I'll happily stay here again and would recommend it.

Everything was fine. Though travelocity said it was air conditioned and it was not. Also, there were 4 different types of power outlets in the room, the ones near the head of the beds were not the usual type. I didn't have an adapter for those to run my CPAP machine. I had to plug it in on the opposite wall, and sleep with my head at the foot of the bed.

It was larger than i exoected, but it had the friendly feel of a smaller place. The food and beer was good, as was the breakfast. The room was nicely decorated with lots of nice touches. There are lots of places to go within a short drive. Not sure if there is anything walkable . I was there as a sort of business traveller at the weekend. It was nice tobsee so many couples and families at breakfast, definitely had a holiday feel and a change from the bland chain type places. Would stay again if I was in that area.

Bed was a little soft for me but otherwise can’t fault it. Everything was clean, amenities were good, even a couple of little treats thrown in. We ate there too in the evening and was really nice and good value for money.

We arrived later afternoon on the 9th July and went into the garden for a drink . There was a group already there having a drink and we asked the manager if they could tone down the noise. When we arrived for dinner they were in the annexe on the one side of the bar so we asked for a table on the other side of the bar as we did not want to be subjected to their conversation. Through our the meal they got louder and louder and when I had had enough and got up to go and speak to the manager a male member of their party the loudest of them announced to the whole dinning room / bar that that was what I was going to do to humiliate me . When I complained to the manager he told me that I was the problem . I won’t stay at the Bird again or indeed at any other Butcombe Establishment. I run and own my business and if my staff behaved like this I wouldn’t have a business
