Restaurant/ bar/spa Staff made the trip, friendly professional and knew what it meant to make a memorable stay.

Rooms VERY tired. First room smelt of body odour. Second room bathroom literally falling apart. Cracked sink, everything leaked.

Heating so unbelievably hot but unable to turn it off even after reporting to staff. Slept with windows wide open all evening.

The hotel is in a great location and approach is lovely. Spa was well appointed.
I accept it is an old building but it is in need to repair and updating.
Carpets worn, lift out of order and no chance for disabled access to our room without walking up 3 flights of stairs.

The presentation and quality of food in the evening was exceptional, however the service was extremely slow. Breakfast was speedier, however the order was delivered wrong and the food was obviously pre-cooked as it was dry and touch. Shame.

Areas of the hotel looked tired. Breakfast service somewhat chaotic, and surprised to be told what time we were having breakfast (0830 on Sunday!). Plates were cold, so dinner on Friday night and breakfast Sat/Sun were cold. The tuna starter wasn't particularly fresh.

Staff were helpful throughout; but areas seemed to lack customer focus - stood for several minutes at the Spa reception whilst 3 staff continued their conversation and didn't even acknowledge us. The treatments (which were excellent) started several minutes late but annoyingly finished promptly.

We have been coming to Danesfield House on and off, for the past 15 years. We always feel very well cared for by professional, friendly staff.The swimmimg pool and spa area are so relaxing and sparkling clean. The food is excellent and we had the option of room service, which was a real treat. Our bed was so comfortable and all parts of our accomodation were well cared for. The grounds are expansive and beautiful, with lovely views down to the River Thames.

The hotel was extremely busy with back-to-back weddings, and most guest rooms appeared to be out of action due to these events, which was already disappointing. room, however, was particularly poor in condition. It was very dated, with an old wall-mounted hairdryer, cobwebs, and several insects including daddy long legs and moths. The carpet was faded and worn, leaving the room feeling tired and neglected.
For October, the large room was also uncomfortably cold, and as there was no controllable heating, staff could only provide a small portable heater, which was completely inadequate for a room of that size. The bed and pillows were hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to get any rest.
Additionally, our room was located very close to the function areas, and both nights we were disturbed by loud noise from wedding guests shouting and music carrying late into the evening. This made it impossible to relax. It is not a hotel and spa where you can stay for the weekend to unwind — we ended up leaving the hotel on both evenings just to find some peace and quiet.
We were offered an upgrade to a more modern room for an additional £150, but having already spent nearly £600 on our stay, we did not feel we should have to pay more simply to be comfortable. No alternative ‘superior room’ was offered, only larger rooms at additional cost, which we did not want or need — we just wanted to be comfortable for the stay we had already paid for.

We very much enjoyed our stay, the grounds and the view are breathtaking. I liked that we had a four poster bed and that the furnishings around the hotel were old in style. Everything was clean and tidy. We especially enjoyed the spa facilities.
The only complaint I have was that our neighbours kept banging their door shut throughout the night, obviously this is not anything the the staff would be able to have changed but very disruptive for our one night stay.
Breakfast didn’t seem to run that smoothly. We asked for toast that came out after our other breakfast order had been finished and taken away. However it was a very nice breakfast and the toast was worth waiting for.

Lovely country house hotel set in the Thames valley and overlooking the river Thames from the surrounding hills. Nice walks around the gardens. Excellent food in the restaurant and a great full English breakfast. Room was well presented with large bathroom, shower over bath. We had a room with a separate sitting area which had great views out over the valley and river. Wi-Fi, etc worked well, two TV’s one in each room. Did not use the large pool or Spa.

We had a really lovely 3 night stay here last week. The hotel itself is beautiful and the grounds are immaculate. The spa and gym is fantastic with a variety of treatments, super friendly and accommodating therapists.

The room itself was large and with everything you could ask for. Really well laid out. My only suggestion would be to highlight that there are fitness classes in the welcome book - I love Pilates and only found out there was a Pilates class happening as I saw a poster in the gym area when I went to meet my husband.

The only niggle I had is one day the biscuits weren’t replenished by housekeeping in our room.

We stayed here with our baby and every person we met was so welcoming and understanding - not once did we feel we were an inconvenience- even when she cried! Really thankful for how lovely the atmosphere was made by all of the staff we met.

A truly wonderful stay from a very tired set of parents - thank you for helping us relax and feel restored! We will be back.

No Longer Luxury! Tired and Scrimp on costs

This used to be a beautiful hotel that we recommended but is now very tired and clearly struggling due to going into administration in 2022 and acquired by Danesfield Hotel and Resorts Ltd.
We booked a Deluxe room that should have had a Four Poster bed or Access to Terrace - Room 308 has neither. (It does have a Half Tester Headboard which is not a 4 Poster).

There is no lift as it doesn't work, when I asked how long it had been out of order I was told 3 years! We were on the 2nd/3rd floor (or 2.5 flights of stairs) so whilst I embrace exercise this was not appreciated after my room neither had a 4 poster bed or Terrace Access.

The reason we booked was for a wedding anniversary as we got married at Danesfield House. We are repeat customers and have stayed many times before. Sadly this will most likely be our last stay until the hotel has undergone some serious repair & maintenance.

The staff were polite but not many around and you can tell the hotel has undergone serious cost cutting exercises so its no longer a luxury hotel. Such a shame as it could be amazing if initiative was applied and tweaks were made which wouldn't cost that much if anything.

The food was OK, however, we Paid for an Afternoon Tea/Picnic with a bottle of Champagne and was given a bottle of English Sparkling wine... Definitely not Champagne as advised so this was very misleading as was our room and scrimping on costs.

Pay for bigger better room for restful stay

I knowlingly booked my stay aware it was a very old character ful hotel, i certainly wasnt expecting all the new mod cons like a Jaoanese toilet seat or even air con (aware from other reviews of the smaller rooms)
And u actually enjoyed the history, the old paintngs, furniture etc

The staff were excellent, special mention to the evening dining staff, though maybe the younger bar staff of an evening could keep their conversations a little more professional when guests are sat there

If i was in a Holiday Inn i wouldnt even think twice but when youre paying such high prices, you expect a certain level of decorum

The grounds are beautiful and i enjoyed finding little nooks to read my book or listen to music

The breakfast price if not included in the room is extortionate at £26 in my opinion. It was ok but not THAT good to be worth £26 im afraid.

No coffee machine or fridge in room.

There was a fan provided which i had to keep on all night as was so hot, this didnt bother me in itself but it didnt really do the job, plus the bed was two singles joined together, i imagine this is due to the room being in the eves and not being able to get a double in there perhaps but it made my sleep totally broken, the bed was so uncomfortable, its my main issue with the stay and the main thing you need for a restful weekend!

So sadly for all the lovely history, staff, amazing dinner and grounds, the reason for my stay was rest and i came away more tired than i arrived

It’s a beautiful property. Having said that, there are rooms that get insanely hot, with no air conditioning and my bedroom had one window only. I was literally dripping with sweat until the room finally started cooling off around 11pm. Only cool enough for sleep at 1am. I raised this with management shortly after arriving and was told that there was nothing they could do about external factors such as heat. There was a fan but blowing hot air around the room really wasn’t helping.

The Hotel has fabulous grounds and a spa. The hotel is looking dated in certain places and the dorma window in our room did not work. This was a real pain as it was very hot when we stayed at the hotel. The food we had in the restaurant for dinner was delicious. We did not have breakfast there as paying over £30 for breakfast just seemed over the top.

I had a special 3 night break planned and booked to celebrate my birthday, several months prior ; but a couple of days before the start day, I was informed that the hotel could only put us up for two days, and the alternatives they offered, were not suitable.
So my special birthday break, was ruined by them, and although they ungraded me from a deluxe room (for 3 nights) to a duplex room ( for 2 nights), the daily rate for the 2 nights, was higher than the daily rate for three ! A pretty poor show, I hope you will agree. In the many, many years of my booking hotels all over the world, this has never happened before, and I very much hope it never will, again. But certainly, I would never use Danesfield house again.

The hotel had beautiful views and gardens but the building was showing l poor maintenance, lack of repainting and threadbare carpet etc. The evening meal was £65 per person for 2 courses, unfortunately the quality of the food did not reflect the price and was very disappointing. We had 2 nights in this very beautiful traditional hotel.
Our room was spacious, if a little tired.
We arrived a little early and was told our room would be ready at 3. We got the impression that even if our room had been ready, we would not have got the key until 3.
The lift is broken and it was quite a hike to our room.
The corridors, as you might expect in an old hotel are confusing and there is a distinct lack of signage.
The toilet in our room did not flush properly- we had to pour kettles of water down it to clear it. We reported it and although I think it had been looked at, it still didn’t work properly.
On the first morning, when we returned to the room, the only indication the maid had been was the folded toilet paper. Dirty cups left and not replaced, bed looked partially made etc. we reported this also to reception, but it was not rectified.
Breakfast was terrible. Excellent choice of food, but it had been left so long before being delivered, it was cold and congealed. The server took the cost of our bill.
Spa was good and the pool was quiet for my early morning swim.
The hotel and grounds are very lovely, but they need more staff, some upgrades and an injection of atmosphere.

Wonderful room (which we would like to stay in again) and the only tiny niggle was a poorly flushing toilet, which perhaps just reflects older plumbing arrangements. Great spa and, having stayed several times before, we noticed that the restaurant, which had always been good, seemed to have stepped up a notch into fine dining. We really enjoyed the meals, including the breakfasts, with great service from the restaurant staff. The grounds are always a pleasure to explore and not least this time in excellent April weather. Danesfield House never seems to disappoint!

The Spa was exceptional and all the staff friendly and worked hard clearing dirty towels and replacing to keep the area clean. However we found the housekeeping team to be the complete opposite, ignoring the do not disturb and after specifically telling the staff we would not be leaving till 11 am they let themselves into our room without knocking on the door and returned again 10 mins later while we were changing repeating even though it was 10.30am..no apology and leaving vacuum and cleaning trolley outside our door in a narrow corridor.

Where to star with this beautiful property?
We were blown away by how stunning this building is and how conscienciously it has been maintained to retain the history of the property.
We had a wonderful time exploring the grounds after check-in, and managed to have enough time to enjoy a swim, jacuzzi, and sauna before heading to an event close by in the evening.
We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar when we returned and the staff made my husband one 'off menu'.
We only had breakfast at the hotel (in terms of dining) and it was in the most beautiful room. The eggs royale were excellent (eggs perfectly poached!) and the view was stunning.
The only fault I found in the whole experience was flexes of a brown substance (😬) on the flexible showerhead attached to the bathtub in the room. That was disappointing, but otherwise the room was immaculate.
It was one of (if not) the best hotel stays we've every had, and I was so impressed with the hotel, grounds and service, we've recommended it to so many people already.
Run don't walk to the property! Phenomenal!

We had an amazing time. Every single member of staff we spoke to from the reception staff, bar staff and breakfast ataff were awesome. We didn't eat in the restaurant of an evening but we had breakfasts on 2 days and what we had was delicious. John the manager was lovely and his support team were excellent.
The hotel itself is just so beautiful, the grounds are amazing. We took a little walk in the evening.
We went to the spa/pool at 7am on the Saturday and had the place to ourselves which was incredible.
Shout out to the hardworking cleaning staff, they were thorough and friendly.
Only reason I have given 4 stars overall than 5 is a little 'penny pinching' with the room facilities/amenities compated to the price paid. As examples, 1 pack of biscuits for 2 people and even this wasn’t replaced on the 2nd day. Bottles of water also not replaced on the 2nd day. Had better coffee/tea tray in a basic hotel! We were expecting either a balcony or 4 poster bed, we booked a deluxe room, we got neither. We aren't complaining people and looking at the 'subject to availability' qualifier on the room description there wasnt much that could be done....just felt a little misreading? However, we would return in a heartbeat and probably will next valentine's weekend!

Main lounge was not usable due to freezing temps. Only one small bar was available.
Our room had one small blow heater that was
totally inadequate. Had to move room.
Shortage of staff, had to look for staff to serve us.

Great stay again

Needs investment

Danesfield was a nice place to stay but needs some proper investment to justify the price tag. The level of service couldn’t be faulted nor the quality of the food, but the room was a little cold with only a small electric heater in it and the beds weren’t that comfortable.

An historic country house sympathetically converted into a luxurious hotel. We were a family group that had a mixture of comfortable \"Classic\" of a good size and enormous \"Delux\" rooms with a fabulous view over the Thames.

Lots of staff visible and the ones we spoke too were polite and helpful. Great level of service.

I would recommend a stay.

We had a lovely stay here a few months ago and had a lovely room overlooking the gardens .
Therefore we were really looking forward to this visit especially as it is so close to Christmas.

This time , first room we were given had the tiniest window, the room looked tired and we felt claustrophobic. It was near the spa end of the building and we felt like we were in a different hotel!
We asked to be moved, initially at extra cost to us but eventually they agreed to move us at no extra expense to us . This time the room was in the courtyard. The room was better and had large windows overlooking the front gardens and carpark which was a massive improvement from previous room .
Staff were helpful and polite,
However we will be staying elsewhere next time we are back in Marlow .

I enjoyed my stay, it was comfortable with lovely views. I went there for my wedding anniversary. However, I didn’t use the spa but I will surely return next time and use the spa facility. The staff were nice and made us feel welcomed!
