Everything was absolutely perfect . The room was beautiful and very comfortable. All the areas, including the Spa, are well appointed and clean and the staff is excellent - well trained, friendly and courteous. A relaxing fabulous atmosphere. Staying at the iconic Cliveden house was wonderful and staff & service were fantastic. We enjoyed the spa and swimming in the famous pool BUT we were rather underwhelmed by our dinner. I ordered sole and this was decidedly average especially given the prices. Breakfast was lovely though!

Beautiful hotel with amazing grounds, huge room and lots of luxurious touches. The beds were comfortable and the big round bath was something else. Food was excellent and the staff were friendly and professional. The only negatives were when the corporate side of things disturbed the other guests - the braying sales teams taking over the breakfast room with their luggage wasn't ideal, nor the loud wedding planning meeting while we were relaxing in the residents’ lounge. I’m sure there is enough space to host them in other areas.

What an amazing hotel and service! We have been to Cliveden House before - for afternoon tea, for dinner, and just to visit the grounds. But this time we decided to treat ourselves and booked a Club Room for an overnight stay, as it was our anniversary. But what an amazing surprise - we got upgraded to a Junior Suite, got a bottle of prosecco, a piece of cake and a hand-written greeting card! The suite we were given was Sutherland, which is absolutely gorgeous - with an enormous working fireplace and a humongous bed made us feel like royalty. Big thanks to Cliveden and hotel manager Jordan for making our stay so special.

Amazing property and friendly staff. Ate in the Astor grill which was good but service and menu could be improved. Some items with meat/fish in their description listed as vegetarian, which other seemingly vegetarian items like a beetroot ravioli not marked as vegetarian and the waiting staff were equally confused about it.

VIP amenity of a bottle of very nice English Sparkling Wine was lovely. No Gold member room upgrade mentioned, if not possible would be good to let the guest know, although there was room availability that evening on the website.

It is a beautiful grand building set in lovely and vast grounds - that certainly did not disappoint. Room was not as stunning and there were not many toiletries such as toothbrushes etc. The bath was a deeply sunken design and would be very awkward for many people to shower in and could be a safety hazard. Our biggest disappointment was the breakfast - the service here did not in any way reflect the price we had paid. Had better service in 3 star properties so we came away pretty unhappy. It just was not the efficient and polished experience one would expect from such a property.

Excellent staff and service in historic country house with fantastic grounds managed by the National Trust. As might be expected in a very old building some of the fittings were a little tired for example the plug in bathroom washbasin didn't work. The fine dining restaurant was very good the casual dining restaurant (Astor) was OK but expensive Fish & Chips £26 Burger £26 and glass of wine £24.

This is a unique and characteristic hotel with lots of history and amazing architecture. The scenery, gardens and the estate overall are simply gorgeous. The spa and the outdoor pool area is also very nice especially in good weather (it may be difficult to find a lounger when it is sunny though). The room I stayed in was nicely decorated with wood panellings and period furnitures; bed was very comfortable as well. However, if you love modern luxury, you may be disappointed with the rooms since many things in the rooms are antiques but bathrooms are recently renovated all with the same style. The staff is professional and very helpful.
Negatives: 1. The room didn’t have enough lighting and was quite dark at night for my liking. 2. I think there should be a separate mini bar area in a 5* hotel room with a fridge rather than kettle/Nespresso machine occupying half of the study desk. 3. Food in Astor Grill and spa is average at best and falls short of expectations from a hotel at this level but maybe main dining hall is better.

Overall, I would definitely recommend the hotel.

Terrible and Upsetting Stay

Our room wasn’t ready until 3.25 not great!Got to our room and the ceiling looked like it was going to collapse I complained to the duty manager as there was no general manager who left us seated at the bar for an hour until it was painted/botched over.Then to top it off kids above running around banging before we had dinner and first thing in a morning.Worst stay ever and left very disappointed and Upset.What was meant to be a relaxing stay was a total nightmare.

Cliveden had always been on my bucket list to stay in one day. I went for my honeymoon and was very happy with the experience. The location, the room, the staff were all top notch.

My only criticism if any was that the room was not as clean as I would have expected in a property of this calibre.

They held out bags for us before we flew home which meant we could explore the mass of acres that the property sits on. I would recommend again and again.

The house and grounds are fabulous, well worth a visit. The dining room food and service was also excellent. But there were a lot of small niggling items which should not be an issue when you are paying 600 pounds sterling a night. Viz., the main outlet for services did not work, requiring appliances having to be re-located all round the room. The shower developed an annoying drip in the middle of the night, which we finally resolved, after losing a lot of sleep. The tub was slippery and there was no non-slip pad. The wrong size of towels requested were delivered. The reception is inadequate if there is any volume of guests. And at check out the printers were down -- and the promised email receipt has still not been received. Yes, picky, picky. But at the price everything should work perfectly. The marvellous ambiance loses a bit of its lustre when the details fall short.

The location of this hotel is stunning. It is a real 'get-away-from-it-all' dream. The building and gardens are beautiful. The staff were friendly, efficient and professional without being obsequious or 'corporate'. We had the most wonderful time and can't wait to return. I left an item behind and it was posted back to me within a day. The whole experience was absolutely fabulous.

Where to start
The drive up to the hotel is amazing, straight out of an old novel, the large fountain at the end, leading you up to the grandeur of Cliveden House.

You are met by the Bell Hop, who was courteous and friendly, taking your bag and welcoming you to Cliveden. Then you walk into the reception area - absolutely breathtaking. It is like staying in a fairytale castle!
Check in was smooth and quick, staff spoke to us politely and made us feel very welcome.
We were upgraded to a deluxe room, which was amazing. We stayed in \"CHINESE\" vs the decor was beautiful.
The bed was amazing, the bathroom spacious. The whole room was full of charm & character.
The grounds are impeccably maintained, and stunning. Waking down through the woods to the river is well worth it (just renege that you will have to come up a hill sooner or later!)

The spa is outstanding, beautiful surroundings great facilities and a twiddling atmosphere & ambience. A place for recharging the batteries, even if you do not have any treatments. Robes, towels & flip flops are provided!

We didn't eat in the restaurants, but they looked amazing and didn't hear any complaints - just praise!
We had a drink in the guests lounge, which I believe used to be the library. Again lots of comfortable old world seats.
Beautiful caving full of books, wood paneling & open fires... Plus an amazing list of cocktails, wines and spirits - dying some VERY good whiskies.

Our stay at Cliveden House was nothing short of magical! Upon check in, we were greeted by their wonderful staff member Ken who welcomed us and showed us to our registration assistant, Chloe, who was both knowledgeable and so nice. Ken then gave us a guided tour of the property, bonded with my husband over a mutual love of football and got us comfortably settled into our room. He made us feel so welcome and was just a joy to be around. From the on-site restaurants and spa facilities to the beautiful and historical decor of the hotel, everything was exceptional. We would stay here again without hesitation and would highly recommend this hotel and staff for anyone looking for a truly special and upscale experience.

The hotel is beautiful but the stay was not without fault. The room was lovely but the patio lights didn’t work and the shower/bath had poor drainage.
We had a room next to the spa and were woken at 7.15 by staff entering for work and having loud conversations.
Finally the meal, while nice, was unseasoned and not what i’d expect from a 3 rosette restaurant.

The room was lovely and the hotel itself impressive. The bed was particularly comfortable. The staff were really very good and in particular the guy helping when we arrived and left.

But there were a number of lights not working in our room. It could be fuses but bulbs gone are a pet hate.

I had organised a cake for my husbands 50th. I am unsure if they forgot or it was just late. I also asked if the room rate included a bottle of champagne. I was told it did not. Technically that was correct. But it was meant to include sparkling wine. I realised when I checked my e mail. Both were rectified but I did have to check which was frustrating.

Also if you are a member of national trust do notify them. A £30 charge will be added to your bill without asking if you are in fact a member. We are and so it was taken off the bill but again I had to query this. Petty and a drop in the ocean I suppose.

Breakfast was fine but they really should be clearing plates etc as you finish.

It was just a bit unpolished. Having informed them of my husbands 50th birthday the welcome card just welcomed me and made no mention of it.

Staff were very friendly and good and the building is of course very special as are the grounds.

We stayed here again, as we did 2 years ago, to celebrate by Birthday. We had a smaller than expected room but the outside rather than inside hot tub was fine. The restaurant remains amazing and the crab and lobster dishes were sublime; as was the fish. They had ran out of Dover Sole which was a shame but overall still 10/10. The service was good although the staff were kept very busy as the hotel was full. The grounds remain super and we will go back again for sure. Highly recommended.

Classic grand English hotel. Wonderful round the pool on a sunny day but let down by items not available on a very short menu, slow and inattentive service in the snack bar there. In a heatwave, avoid rooms without air conditioning due to NT constraints. André Garrett restaurant food is exceptionally good but why give me butter and delicious taramasalata before the starter but leave me to ask 3 times for forgotten bread. In every others way, excellent, helpful, friendly, thoughtful and attentive service. Not our first visit nor our last, we are booked to come again and will keep doing so. Cliveden is a unique gem.

Beautiful setting and wonderful grounds

Our stay at Cliveden was memorable, the setting of the hotel was magnificent. The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn’t do enough for you. Checking in was very efficient and friendly, however we were a little disappointed at our room as there was no view. The room “Rosina Harrison” had a separate sitting room which was nice however it had no view except over a courtyard, which made it dark. The sitting area and bedroom were beautifully furnished to the standard you’d expect of a 5 star hotel and the bed was very large and very comfortable.
The marble bathroom was impressive and came with lovely Asprey toiletries and large fluffy towels.
At times during the evening and early morning there was some noise from the courtyard. It was a staff entrance and staff were running trolleys over the cobbled stones which woke us up a few times.
We had a surprise as there was no coffee or tea making facilities in the room, nor was there a fridge. This was rectified and the staff brought up a kettle and a tray of tea/ coffee, plus a small fridge.
Breakfast was superb, I recommend the Lord Astor breakfast, and the views out over the gardens were stunning. The serving staff were marvellous.
We had a lovely supper at the Astor Grill on Thursday evening, the staff were very attentive and efficient. We telephoned our booking and were offered 6:15pm slot. It transpires that we could have dined earlier as there must have only been 10 customers in the restaurant all evening.

Only one niggle: no tea/coffee ms,I gotta in the bedroom, instead order room service via the in-room tablet (nice touch) for £6 a cup plus £10 tray charge. Feels like nickel & diming for such a luxury hotel. Gardens and grounds well worth an explore.

Over priced for what you get

The service for breakfast and dinner was very slow. The breakfast offering was poor relative to the prices.

For the price you pay the overall experience was disappointing. We were woken up by room service when we hadn't ordered room service.

Overall they seemed short staffed; there were some very competent staff, but they were interspersed with staff new to the role.

The Cliveden is a special, amazing place. Everything is top notch! The location is close to London, Heathrow, Windsor etc. I can't say enough good things about it.
