Hotel with lovely grounds

We were attending a wedding on bank holiday Monday but decided to arrive the day before to ease the stress! We were shown to our room (junior suite) and on first impressions, the room looked quite stunning- however, on closer inspection the room was actually quite tired and in need of some redecoration/ repairs.
The Spa was busy and as we hadn’t booked any treatments, we could only use the hot tub and sauna- which were as expected. However, finding a towel was difficult as I was told they are in a cupboard- after opening a few utility type cupboards I found it!!! No sign on the door etc and no where to put your used towels, I bumped into a member of staff and he said put it anywhere and suggested on top of a piece of wooden furniture to the right of me ?!. On a positive note, The restaurant was pleasant and the food was really good.

Overall nice social spaces but both the rooms we had were a bit tired. Window would not lock, access via flat roof outside our window worried us. Taps hard to turn off. Some redecorating needed. Nice food and staff.

Lovely hotel.. very pleasant stay.

Lovely hotel. We booked an overnight last minute stay for our anniversary.
Breakfast and dinner included.
Really pleasantly surprised & touched by anniversary romantic touches to the room on our arrival. A warm welcome on arrival. We had spa pool and sauna to ourselves.

The sign at the entrance is difficult to see in the day and at night when dark and raining it is totally impossible to see.

I was driving round for over an hour until a phone call to the helpful night receptionist revealed we were 200 metres away.
Good illumination would kill the problem and save us making a night journey home to Dorset.

At approximately 1am, the air conditioning unit in my room had a river of water leaking from it, resulting in a complete flooding of the floor. I have attached photos and videos for your reference. After spending 30 minutes watching the situation unfold, the night duty manager finally decided to move us to Room 10 across the hall. However, this room was far too small to accommodate two adults and a child, further compounding the problem.

To make matters worse, the fire alarm went off and continued blaring for 20 minutes. The night duty manager appeared completely inept, unable to switch it off. It was only when another member of staff from reception arrived that the alarm was finally silenced.

After speaking with other guests, it became clear that this was not an isolated incident. Several rooms were experiencing water leaks, including through electrical fixtures such as the fire alarms—an alarming and dangerous situation. Given the seriousness of water entering electrical systems and the complete failure of your staff to address the situation, I had no choice but to call the fire brigade.

The fire brigade's disbelief at the lack of proper systems and procedures in place at the hotel was palpable. They had to break into certain areas to try and isolate the rooms most affected by the flooding and leaking electrical components.

The hotel did nothing. They have not even returned the money for the room we didn’t stay in. Don’t stay there if you value your life

I was quite disappointed with the stay. It wasnt awful and the hotel itself is very attractive and the grounds were lovely, however the breakfast was not of the standard I expected and the service was unsatisfactory. The breakfast staff seemed untrained and/or uninterested. The hotel didn’t seem to have a nice atmosphere and I wish I had stayed elsewhere.
The room itself was clean but the bathroom needed some work. Also noticed brand new stickers on the underside of the coffee mugs.
I was expecting much more than this.

Hotel itself was nice and cozy but it was clearly short-staffed. The few present staff were super friendly though.
Liked the fact that they allowed us to take our kitten there which made the whole trip far more enjoyable. The room we stayed was a spacious suite with a comfy bedding.

Nice pleasant spa hotel

Very nice hotel - spa hotel but only has sauna and small jacuzzi pool outdoors plus treatments.
We had dinner the first night - my food was extremely salty and dish wasn't as menu advertised and very small portions.
We booked 2 nights then decided to stay for a 3rd - today we wanted to have lunch sitting outside today - only a sandwich but were told the kitchen couldn't do any food as they had a large party in ! I did comment what about your paying guests staying in the hotel - they need to be looked after - after a short wait they offered us a choice of 3 things ! All in all staff are a credit to your hotel - nice pleasant hotel would return. We also booked one night dinner at Cliveden House Hotel which is just down the road.

A lovely stay in this period property, there is ample parking and the food standards are high. The bar serves a nice coffee amongst other beverages and the restaurant staff are very attentive.

Positives about the hotel are the quiet location, the decor and modern yet timeless appearance of the rooms, seating areas and outside space, the spa and pool (which we didn’t have time to use) and the helpful staff on site. Also the food quality and choice.

We booked an executive room which is worth paying extra for. Sadly during our stay the hot water at the hotel had broken however the staff had already made us aware in writing and part refunded the stay without us even asking a question about anything of the sort.

We would stay again, we are very particular when choosing rooms, it’s a lovely hotel.

The property has great character as you may expect from such a historic, Georgian building. The evening meal was very good, as was the breakfast, with both being served in lovely bay windowed restaurant. Service was excellent for both meals and staff were all very pleasant and helpful. However, we stayed in the Orkney junior suite, which was very spacious but sadly in need of quite a lot of tlc. Such a shame given the stature of the property.

We were there for a family wedding.The hotel and surroundings were stunning. But was let down by small things like the dated condition of room eg mirror was half painted or stained. Our cups in the room had chips on them and sink taps were leaking. But would return because like stated service and surroundings were stunning .

Not a hotel if you want a quite nice sleep.1st night woken up at 6am by family moving out who were communicating by shouting at each other for about a hour.second night woken up about midnight by a person who wanted to run and down the staircase for about a 1/2 hour(our room was adjacent the “up”staircase)

We stayed here for 1 night for a wedding we had to attend, overall the hotel is done to very high standards. the staff was very nice and very welcoming. We had a little issue with our room and without any aggravation, we were moved to a new and upgraded room.

The head concierge Gerry was so nice and Milton was also very nice.
any issues were dealt with swiftly and solutions were provided which was very nice. The hotel is having some renovations done but that won't affect your stay here. I would definalty goback again

It was a construction site.
There was no gym.
There was no spa.
There was dirt on the carpet.
There was no fridge in the room.
The furniture and curtains were dated.
There was no apology or allowance given by the hotel for the state of things.
It's a simple case of managing customer expectations and accurate representation on hotel site and expedia site of the true state of things.
I also couldn't get a refund so was stuck in hotel for 3 nights.
I will never return and would certainly not recommend.

The staff we met in the hotel were absolutely fantastic, from the lady who booked us in on reception to the restaurant staff who went above and beyond to ensure that the awkward vegetarian with a mushroom allergy had a meal, the chef cooked a special dish for me, to the maintenence and cleaning staff nothing was.too much trouble for them.
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and had only just reopened, we were aware of this when we booked, and so we were prepared for some disruption and it was actually less than we expected, and the end result will enhance rhe hotel even more.
We will certainly visit the hotel again when we are in the area

Overnight stay to break a long journey

We chose the hotel because our daughter lives nearby, and it looked interesting.
The hotel was an old country house, and has plenty of character and style.
We had a comfy room and bed, but no heating in the room, and a faulty light (which was quickly fixed).
The view was of builders' skips and a huge container. There were lots of empty rooms when we stayed so it was strange we were not offered a room with a better view !!!
The bar was cosy and the food was excellent.
The grounds are lovely.
We will return, but will ask for a better view!

Enjoyed the stay at Taplow House. Probably better suited to leisure travel than business. Grounds lovely, but I arrived and departed in the dark so didn't get to see them fully. Service was exceptional - all the staff super friendly and try really hard. Food was also of an incredibly high standard. Couldn't commend the staff enough!!

The Hotel is a beautiful building in fantastic grounds. The check in was slow and laborious. The room was clean and perfectly adequate. However I found the bed uncomfortable and was amazed and appalled that they do not provide soap especially considering the COVID period. The toiletries in general were extremely meagre. Breakfast was excellent and cooked to order. The bathroom radiator was not earthed.

Perfect in every way

Stayed here for 2 nights and loved it. Tge location was perfect for what I needed, tucked away but with easy reach of Taplow station and a reasonably large tesco just 1.5 miles away and walkable. I booked a junior suite and the room was really well appointed. Cleanliness was good although the carpet in the room looked tired and could do with replacing and I'd have loved fluffier towels in the bathroom rather than the starched versions. But those two things are observations and would not stop me from booking to come back. There's a lovely terrace that seems to get the sun all day, overlooking the well kept grounds. The food in the restaurant is really very good, you do however pay the price for an onsite hotel. All employees I had interactions with were helpful and friendly. One observation was on check in. I opted for the online check in thinking it would make my arrival at the hotel super speedy. Unfortunately, it did not. I still managed to spend 8 minutes getting checked in so not really sure of the benefit to online check in. All in all, I loved my stay and will return!

A pleasant place to stay but a series of errors from check in to check out made it a frustrating one. They messed up our booking and downgraded our room whilst still charging the more expensive rate. They managed to block my credit card. They added drinks to our bill that weren’t ours. They messed up our order at breakfast. I’m boring myself as I type, so I’ll just say it was fine but won’t be returning.

We had booked ourselves into a junior suite, which was a lovely size.

It was only 2 days after re-opening following the 2nd UK lockdown and unfortunately, on arrival, the heating unit in our room hadn't previously been turned on by housekeeping, which meant a very cold start as it took about 2 hours to heat the room. Although I wasn't asked if there was any issues with our stay, I did update reception on leaving and they were going to feed back to the housekeeping team.

All staff were lovely and all COVID guidelines followed throughout.

Lovely quiet location and grounds with deer and foxes walking through the trees. Breakfast and bar meals very good quality and value. Staff very helpful and smiling! Loads of car parking. Booked 2 rooms for 3 nights. One room on ground floor was next to kitchens and noisy from early morning. Other room No. 18 was on second floor at rear of hotel. No view and one small window meant room was dark at all times. No elevators and 3 storeys presented problems for elderly.

Upon arrival there were no members of staff at reception. The bathroom was dirty, and the shower did not work - had to hold a hand on the tap to force the water into the showerhead. The water for the shower was also cold. The bed was uncomfortable and I work covered in small red bite marks. At breakfast nobody appeared to know what was going on I was offered tea and coffee four times within a couple of minutes. When my breakfast came it appeared that the chef had forgotten to slwash the spinach as I was served a large portion of soil - at which point I decided to leave. On leaving staff did not ask if I had enjoyed my stay. Would not recommend this place to anyone.

Cannot sleep on their pillows

The building is really beautiful, the area is very quiet, the receptionist is friendly, however, breakfast has many waiters asking you the same questions over room number and orders, pillows can make crispy sounds as I breath in and out, towels are had stains and food remains on them. I am a light sleeper. I had to roll up two bath towels to make a tiny pillow for me to sleep on. I will not come back again because of the pillows.

Good but NO LIFT

Great location, nice grounds and easy parking. The hotel upgraded our room for a three night stay, but unfortunately the room was on the top floor and there is NO LIFT. To make matters worse our room key stopped working each day, so 51 steps down and back up for a new key. Then on the last day the replacement key twice did not work and we had to get a manager with pass key to let us into our room, then we discovered that housekeeping had not left enough towels or bathroom tissues. On the plus side the room was comfortable, and the breakfast, bar and restaurant food was excellent, and management apologized for the problems. We would stay again but make sure we had a lower floor room

The size of our suite was really good and the bed was comfortable but their were dead insects on the floor, empty infuser bottles in the bedroom and bathroom, the windows weren't clean. The bar area was really dark with several lightbulbs missing both there and around the hotel. The breakfast offering was poor, particularly the continental breakfast. Table cloth had stains on it and the vase had a real flower but filthy green water in it, not conducive to a pleasant mealtime experience. Sad that this could be an excellent place to stay with a little more care and attention.

Great stay at the Taplow House Hotel. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. The room was small but perfect for a couple weekend escape. Breakfast was okay - on the Saturday you could order a la carte, but on Sunday it was buffet which wasn’t quite as good. We had a tiny issue in the bathroom with a toilet leak but the hotel fixed it so quickly that we forgot about it straight away.

Beautiful historic building in lovely grounds, yet warm and welcoming.

We were fortunate to wake up to a picturesque snow fall which painted a chocolate box image on drawing the curtains.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious.

Excellent hotel. Staff efficient and friendly Only ate breakfast which was excellent. Only problem was that there was no lift and had to climb two sets of stairs to our room. I don't remember no this being pointed out on the website.

The hotel is well situated close to motorways and in a quiet location with pleasant lawned frontage

The rooms and public areas are comfortable and generally well furnished. The ensuite was very nice and cleaning was very good

There are just a few bits which could do with an update. The heating is a bit old and noisy (air blowers). The room service menu is very limited - sandwiches or hot options pretty much just burger, steak or a pasta dish. Just a few extra items would boost it up quite a bit

Good TV in the room, but sports fans would be disappointed that there is no Sky in the room.

The staff are very pleasant and helpful and they genuinely make efforts for you to feel welcomed

Trades on its grandeur but the rooms are not as grand as you would expect. This is not a cheap hotel by any stretch, so my wife and I were expecting a little bit of luxury in a country house hotel. However the rooms are disappointing. Our first 'superior double' was smaller than expected and there was a shabby air con/heating unit opposite the bed. It was battered and did not fit the old style room at all. And the room really needed a refurbishment. There were what we assume to be coffee stains on the carpet and up the walls. We asked to be moved and the staff were very helpful and moved us to a suite. This was a good size and had a good view of the gardens but again the decor was tired and there were more suspicious stains on the paintwork. In both rooms the paintwork was chipped and had been thickly painted over several times. The decor of the rooms is purposefully old world which is all good for this type of hotel but it doesn't leave the excuse to fall behind on the maintenance. Normally I would be prepared to overlook some of the defects but when you are paying a premium price it's not really acceptable.

Booked a executive room with Hotels.com but was only given a small double which they said had been booked, but still tried to charge us for an executive room.
We where told that because we booked through a 3rd party, which was yourselves they were not informed that we had booked an executive room.
The small double room we we’re give had a smaller than a standard double bed, stains on the carpet and the curtains were far too small for the window letting in a lot of light.
Breakfast was not great either..... I have been a regular member with hotels.com and have booked numerous hotels with them, and have never had any problems before.

Beautiful hotel, greeted by pleasant and attentive staff. Room fantastic, clean, well furnished, and lots of lovely little touches, right down to the personal greeting letter given on arrival. Thoroughly recommend Taplow House Hotel, and would happily stay there again.

Pleasant enough but needs a bit more sparkle

Pleasant enough but it could all do with a bit of brightening up - carpets could do with a clean and so on.No wi-fi in the ex-attic bedroom I stayed in though the room had a lovely view over the garden. Staff are doing their best but there don't seem to be enough of them.

Hotel was good, clean and friendly, service at Breakfast was a bit stretched, looked like someone had not turned up. People were complaining about the length of time it took to be served, unfortunately when it was full it was a little slow, but actually worth waiting for. Food overall was excellent and great value.

Comfortable but small room

Stayed here as it was close to a friends party so very convenient. The room was very small with barely a foot around the outside of the bed. However we were only there for one night, neither of us are large and we did not have to get ready in the room. However the bed was very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The service at breakfast was very slow and appeared a bit chaotic. Again though when it came our full English and eggs Benedict were delicious and we were not in any rush.
Would stay again.

Perfect.

Lovely stay in Cedar room. Carpets had been cleaned that day as still a little damp but smelled beautiful. Room was lovely, few nicks in the wallpaper but bar that, perfect. Everything you need, gorgeous views, air con, robes, slippers, coffee machine, quality biscuits and a deep bath. Would be 100% happy to have this room every stay!

The devil in small details

When I wake up my last day there was no electricity in the bathroom, means practically no light. Reception meant maintenance service comes at 08.00 but I needed to have a shower and shave before08.00 I ended up shaving with my mobile phone light. Finally was something simple, just a switch somewhere in corridor which if reception would show more courtesy I would avoid having shower and shave with mobile phone light
