Location to the Castle excellent. Looked lovely from outside.
Very noisy at night from revellers from the local pubs and as no air conditioning we had to have the windows open. Hardly slept because of outside noise.
Room was very basic - double bed small. Bedroom and Bathroom needed updating. Bedding and towels clean though. No breakfast available. Would not stay again.

What l liked was the location, the Castle was just across the road, close to shops and friendly atmosphere.

I wasn’t given any breakfast, l asked at reception and was told to go to the Ivy next door. There was no bottled water to drink available.

Would l choose this hotel again, sorry guys it’s a definite No as l didn’t get my money’s worth.

The 1 staff member I encountered was very helpful.
My main issue with this hotel was 2 single beds pushed together to make a double. Was uncomfortable!
Although the room was nice and clean it looked like it had been decorated by toddlers. Absolute bodge job of the paint work.

Very disappointed to be visiting this hotel on this occasion. I stayed here about 8 years ago and it was a delightful stay; it looked grand and beautiful, but clearly there has been a change of ownership. The hotel looks very dated and unkempt and needs some tender loving care. Our room was clean to a degree, but unfortunately the bedside tables had dirty ring marks, the sash windows had rotten frames and paint flaking off, the glass windows were dirty, and there were no safety locks, so you could open them fully, and being on the third floor it is a good job we didn’t have any children with us because they could have climbed out and fallen fifty feet to their death. The double bed was actually two single beds pushed together and was very uncomfortable to sleep on. The bathroom was functional but needs upgrading desperately as it had rusted shower and bath taps and the walls were patched up with paint, and the sash window would not open. The long mirror on the wall had not been rehung because it clearly had come off the wall at some point. There were only two tea bags provided to use and a small amount of coffee and cheap milk. The quality of the bath/shower and soap provided were not good. The two members of staff that I met were very pleasant, but that is the only positive from our visit. For the money I paid for a one-night stay, it was not worth the money unfortunately and I will not use this hotel again.

Hotel was tired, dated and needed a definite facelift! Our room overlooked the back of restaurants and the wind was literally howling through our room! The shower was very lacklustre with no real power. Our room also on the slope!
On the plus side the staff were lovely, very accommodating and helpful. They were a credit to the hotel.
Would I stay here again? Sadly no.

Let me start off with the the good things

Location: Fantastic
Staff: very helpful and friendly

Room: Horrendous
Really dated and needs updating. The shower leaked onto th4 floor due to the bottom of the bath/shower window having some trim missing. Slippy in bath as nothing to prevent from sliding and nothing to help you climb out as its quite a step.

The mattress was soo old we could feel every spring. Without doubt the worst mattress I've ever had in a hotel. The right hand side our our bed had a big rip in it which was nearly 1/2 meter long.

The iron even in a. Cool setting burnt my shirt and when I looked at the bottom of the iron I could see why. It was black and something had been burnt on to it. That's a £60 shirt ruined

I did read the reviews before I booked and thought I'd take a chance. So it's my fault, however I will never book this hotel again.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, STAY AWAY!!

It is a beautiful old building in an incredible location right over the road from the castle, the staff were wonderful; helpful, polite and professional, I had a standard room which was actually huge! The bed was very comfortable and clean, it is a very short walk away from loads of lovely cafes and is next door to the Ivy. I would absolutely stay here again

This hotel can’t be beat for location - right across from the castle. In all the action but still quiet. The price was a pleasant surprise as well. The staff was helpful, storing luggage, an extra teabag, etc. I would definitely stay there again.

I liked the hotel; however, it doesn't include breakfast, so there's a regular coffee shop in the room. Nevertheless, there are restaurants and cafes near the hotel, which was also good and didn't pose a problem. We loved the experience of staying at the hotel opposite Windsor Castle.

My room wasnt ready until exactly15:00 on the day of check in. I arrived early to drop of my bags so the hotel knew i was around. I turned back up at 10 minutes to 3 to be told my room still wasnt ready and would i wiat. While wiating a full coach load arrived and there was only one girl on the desk!

Room was clean and a fantastic location and view. The tub was leaking and we could have turn off the trickle of cold water that was coming out so it made for a tough sleep. We unfortunately had a couple one door over fighting pretty loud for quite some time and we ended up telling the front desk and leaving doe a while.

The hotel is located conveniently to walk to Windsor Castle and surrounding shops and diners. But it also makes it noisy at night. The hotel is a beautiful building, but needs renovating in the bathrooms and other areas of the building. More cleaning needed as well. That said, price is cheaper than other hotels in the area.

So sad to see this grand old hotel in such a sorry sate. It should not be open for bookings. Filthy bathroom with ancient fittings neither bath nor retained water. Zero facilities and broken lift which has been broken months I had to carry one ladies bags to her room as she could not and no staff to help. It is clear the owners are just taking money as long as they can putting nothing in until it’s inevitable closure. Do not book here location does not compensate for dire state.

The hotel looks nice from the outside but when you go in into your room carpet had stains, bathroom smelled awful, the pictures they showed on the rooms when you booked don't look nothing like when you see it on person. Staff its nice but the rooms are not .old dirty and creepy. The only nice thing is the you can see the windsor castle from the window because the balcony looks old and unsteady wont step on it at all. Windows didn't shut closed and no central heat you had to plug electrial heaters. Won't be staying there again.

The location was perfect. Overlooking Windsor castle & right in the heart of the town centre.
The outside of the property was aesthetically pleasing, however the inside was a completely different story.
Reception was tucked away almost under the stairs, not very open or welcoming, the decor was dated & tired, worn carpets on the stairs & the decor was in much need of updating.
The lift was not working & from all accounts hadn't been for some time. A worker took our bags to our room (3 adults sharing) he had a very strong smell of B.O which lingered long after he had left.
The room was quite large with 3 windows, however 1 window would not close & had to be wedged with a spoon. As the room was cold, obviously the central heating wasn't functioning as we had x2 oilf filled radiators. We had a double bed & a pull out settee bed, both were lumpy, worn & not particularly comfortable, the pillows certainly weren't hotel pillows as they took were hard & lumpy. The room didn't smell fresh either, very musty & in much need of a decent clean as there was rubbish under the wardrobe & bed.
Lovely big bathroom with a bath & a shower ( no handle on the inside of the shower door)
We had a kettle but no milk or tea bags, just a couple of coffee sachets. The TV was not tuned in. They didn't provide a service to make the beds & provide fresh towels, we had to ask for those & make our own beds. It was very cheap to stay there but wouldn't stay again, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for

First impressions at reception and check in were excellent. Room was big and very clean. French doors had gaps and let in cold and noise and boy was it noisy from 3pm to 2am it was non stop, motorbikes, car horns and people shouting and screaming. 6am started again with lorries and dustbins being emptied. Perfect location for all shops and tourist attractions but if you want a good nights sleep forget it.

Communal areas are in need of investment. Our room was clean but dated. Bathroom and shower were refurbished and good. There is no food or drinks served so had to go out for breakfast and meals. Location is the main reason you would stay being central in Windsor right opposite the Castle entrance and really close to the station. The price to stay is cheap so you do get what you pay for.

The lift wasn't working.
Bathroom is unkept. In very poor condition. Cistern is continuously running water. The grouting is everywhere, apart from where it should be. Side of bath mdf all scrapped away. Brown mould. Bathroom sink tap broke off in hand. Plug holes were dirty.
Bedroom : mattress didnt fit the bed stead. (In 2 halves, sideways)
Side lamp not working. Curtains were in disrepair and not on runners.
Black stains on carpet.

Well this hotel falls far short of expectations. It is in a prime location opposite Windsor Castle. The reception area is tucked around the side on entry and not inviting. We had several problems with our room. Things not working and poor housekeeping. The over mirror lights not working were reported yesterday and still not working. The lift is not working either. Carpets are worn in several places despite not being open that long. Our room 218 is large and has a prime view to the castle. Overall this does not meet our expectations or offering value for money. The other chain hotels offer better facilities at a much lower cost. The owners need to review the management of this hotel to put this right

I believe the staff did their best, however for a historically placed hotel of Windsor Castle, the Harte & Garter let itself down very badly.
Sorry will not be returning
Our friends had also booked rooms which also had problems and to cap it all the lift was out off action which was one reason our friend booked the hotel

This hotel has the location to be outstanding, but is sadly in dire need of major renovation.
Threadbare carpets on the stairs, very dated fixtures and fittings, curtains ripped - it was a huge disappointment, because the view of the Castle and location is perfect. Having said that the hotel was very clean, good quality towels … please please renovate and it will be perfect!!

The heating in the room was broken, apparently someone was meant to look at it but they didn't. We ended up wih 2 heaters on wheels to keep the room warm. The wall lights in the bathroom didn't turn on. The shower water was cold, just about warm enough to have a quick wash but I couldnhavr washed my hair. The room itself was very large which was great but and good view of the castle but needed some serious updating. I believet they are trading on the fact they are near to the castle. Can't get through to anyone there via phone. No milk or tea bags in the room so had to ask reception onboth days.

The hotel was ok as long as you don’t spend too much time in it. It is in a great location across from Windsor castle and my expectations were high. As soon as I walked into the poor reception area my expectations diminished.
The room was large but cold, the shower had one temperature, luke warm. The whole hotel was tired and in need of some TLC.
We had 3 coffee sachets in the room, no teabags, no decaf coffee. The tv only showed BBC channels.

We had a great experience, everything very clean and great view of the Castle outside.
Nice large room and staff very attentive,
Heating in room not working, but an oil filled radiator was supplied that warm the room up lovely in no time
Also, the shower probably needs updating as a little bit outdated and we were unable to get a comfortable temperature and flow ratefrom.
All in all a very comfortable stay in a large room with great views of the castle at a great price definitively four stars out of five.
We would definitely book again at this hotel

Great location, probably one of the best in Windsor. It’s a shame that the property didn’t live up to its prestigious surroundings.

Other than the location, there isn’t much else going for the hotel. We had a room at the front with views of the castle, however when we arrived the curtains were closed, plug in heaters around the room and enough condensation on the windows to have a shower.

The rooms are dated an in need of a good clean. The hotel could be great but has been left in disrepair. Blocked sinks dirty floors etc.

Luckily we were only there for one night.

View of castle is nice plus the area is all walkable to nearby shops and pubs. Room was small. Bed was a full. Can’t fit a bigger bed with the room size. Mattress was old, hard, and springy. No heat in room. They set up an old space heater which barely kept room warm as long as bathroom door was closed. Price is too much for an overnight.
