This is a beautiful hotel , with so many original features . It was clean and the staff were amazing . Especially Julia on reception , Pedro and Junior in the Gallery restaurant , which serves Michelin quality dishes . This is our go to place whenever we are visiting Lavenham .

Poorly thought out bathroom.

We stayed for 2 nights, whilst the room was very nice the bed was poorly made (quilt hanging out of the quilt cover). The bathroom extraction was almost non existent, it got extremely steamy after the shower was run. Also, I reported the fact that there is no shower cubicle, just a shower attachment over the bath with no shower curtain ! With even very careful handling this ultimately leads to getting the bathroom floor very wet. Finally, if you decide to take a bath instead, the toiletry containers are too high to reach without standing up to use them. Poorly thought out. Shame as the hotel and staff are great.

The hotel rooms were fine - comfortable and clean. However, we didn’t like the mass of pigeon mess and dead pigeons on the roof areas which were visible from the upstairs corridor windows. I did write to the hotel about this issue before posting a review but had no response so have to conclude that they don’t care!

Lovely couple of days

The Swan Hotel is a unique venue in a historic village which is like stepping back to Tudor times. Our large room had recently been refurbished and was lovely with a large super comfy bed. Personally I’d have preferred a walk in shower to one over the bath. Nice to have a safe in the room but positioning on the wardrobe floor wasn’t very practical.

Amazing couple of days in an amazing hotel
Full of character and history, rooms were clean & very comfortable, tea/coffee facilities & local fresh bottled water,
Bar was perfect for beers or afternoon cocktails, which we did enjoy, Friendly bar staff, Ron & Dave were full of local info & stories of the Swan & Levanham, & mixed lovely cocktales between tales of the town.
We ate @ the Gallery restaurant,, all our meals were exceptional, breakfast menu was plentiful and perfectly cooked, evening menu was some of the best food any of us had tasted, really enjoyable couple of evenings, we had frienda from Portland Oregan with us, they had a great time & enjoyed the relaxation & professionalism of the whole experience,,

BITTER SWEET!

Hotel excellent! Restaurant excellent! Staff & service outstanding!
BUT the room we were expecting described as a Suffolk room according to the website! i.e a double room slightly larger than the Lavenham double room and is lighter and more airy could not have been further from the truth.

The room allocated was a small dark room with two small ceiling height windows facing out onto a noisy main road.
As the room was dark the electric lights needed to be kept switched on most of the time.
The room was also very hot and stuffy requiring the electric fan (Provided by the hotel) to be kept in use most of the time, especially during the night!
The bathroom which measured approximately 6' x6' ( No windows) housed a shower, wash basin and toilet! Located in the ceiling was an electric fan which unfortunately did not work so very unpleasant and humid when taking a shower etc.

Please note: the room had excellent facilities ,toiletries dressing gowns TV Coffee/tea facilities etc.

On making enquiries at the hotel reception! reference the room type? they advised that the room had been upgraded from a Lavenham to a Suffolk only 4 days before our arrival.
As the room was pre-booked back in June 2024 for 2 nights the room was not as expected or good value for money.

The Swan hotel is the perfect little get away for that homey type of feeling. Everything was of the best quality and comfort across the board was clearly on top of their list. All staff were eager to help and very welcoming. Our room was their standard but felt more like a junior suite. The food was delicious. The spa was perfect. 5 stars from me across the board.

We are sure the revenue of the hotel would improve if a member of a member of staff came out to the outside areas/bar to see if you would like anything else rather than you having to go inside and stand at the bar - often unmanned- for another order. See how the Greyhound organise themselves with customer service

A beautiful historic hotel

We have stayed at the Swan before and it is beautiful . This historic hotel is very well maintained and atmospheric. The staff are lovely and very friendly and the food in the restaurant is delicious and very well presented. Our room (no. 6) was spacious and very comfortable, although the bathroom was a bit challenging . We will definitely be back to Kavengam and the Swan .

Wonderful hotel, such a beautiful old building. Food was delicious, we ate in the brasserie and had breakfast each morning in the gallery restaurant. The staff were spot on, very helpful and attentive. Lavenham itself is a very picturesque village, you feel you have been transported back to another era. Would definitely stay again.

The staff were execellent .The room very cosy for these price. The dinner in the dining room lacked atmosphere. My husband requested a rare as can be burger but was delivered dried and well over cooked . The downstairs lounge had moths flying around and we believe there must be a clothes moth infestation.
The quality of the place has deteriorated since our last stay .

Had a great stay at the Swan. Friendly, helpful staff. Some really good food in hotel restaurant. First time using the small spa which was nice. Room a bit small, but this is a very, very old building so this has to be expected unless going for a higher grade room. Bathroom nice but bath a bit small for a soak, again probably constrained by the buildings size. Lovely area for a chilled, relaxed visit with a charming village and beautiful Church. Lots of charming tea houses and interesting pubs to walk to.

Family Christmas at The Swan in Lavenham

We had a wonderful Christmas break with the whole family celebrating my mother-in-laws 80th birthday. Beautiful hotel with lovely facilities, including a relaxing spa. The Swan team couldn’t have been lovelier or more helpful and the restaurant and food was first class. Lavenham was gorgeous. Overall a very memorable stay for everyone. Will definitely be back.

Nearly There but Still Worth a Visit

The Hotel is about 500 years old, so don't expect the regulation Hilton or Holiday Inn. It wants to be a 4 -5 star hotel, but isn't quite there. The staff are really friendly but you feel there s a lack of direction here, and a lack of detail, which are the little things you remember. Staff uniforms were varied, some were much neater than others.
The flowers I'd pre-arranged for my wife were not in the room when we arrived for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The lady on reception dealt with it straight away, which i was pleased with, and my wife got the surprise on second entry to the room.
The bed wasn't made very well and looked creased which wasn't a big problem, but just didn't look great. I guess it was that I wanted everything to be perfect for such a special weekend, and was paying the money for it, and have had that experience elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place in a lovely setting with loads of history, and the staff were very pleasant.

Old and preserved property, somewhat quirky. It must be difficult in keeping it updated - certainly our room was in need of some attention. However overall it was a comfortable stay. Car parking is at a premium as the restaurant is open to non- residents but ample overflow parking about 100 yards away.

The bed was comfortable and overall we had a comfortable stay. However, the upholstery in the room was tatty. The curtains pelmet was hanging off with mould and so were the tiles in the bathroom. The room itself looked tatty, could have done with a lick of paint.The heating in our room ( no:26 ) wasn’t working, but we were provided with a heater. The television wasn’t going either, but we managed to locate and rectify this, as the aerial had been disconnected. Outside our room pigeons were sleeping/ nesting in the roof so they could be heard “ cooing “
At the end of our stay we found the tea and coffee facilities in our room shut away in a cupboard, so never got to make use of those.
Overall, for the money we found the room to be of poor standard, which was a shame as the hotel itself is a lovey place. We have stayed here a few times now but the hotel is beginning to look tired.
The addition of the weavers spa is a great asset to the hotel and cannot recommend this enough. It was clean, comfortable and fresh in comparison with the hotel.

Wonderful historic hotel in the heart of one of the prettiest villages in England. Fantastic setting and tremendous character with the crooked floors and ceilings in a building whose origins date back to the 15th century. We stayed in the Constable Suite, and it was incredible. Superb space and a very comfortable bed. The food served for breakfast and dinner was first class and the staff were courteous and friendly. We will definitely return.

Lovely hotel, the main restaurant is really nice to have dinner in and the waiting staff were all very friendly. The location is excellent right in the middle of Lavenham, we didn’t use our car the whole trip. We had our dog with us too which was great that the hotel took dogs. We enjoyed the dinner, the breakfast was included and the hot breakfast was not bad. The continental buffet options were plentiful, cereal, juice, fruit, pastries, jams etc. and of good quality. The bed and pillows were really comfortable.

We didn't like our small room. The room was in dire need of maintenance: broken window, toilet seat broken, shower hose inoperable, bedside lamps & fans had no switches other than getting on my hands & knees to turn off at the points close to the floor.

We spent five nights in one of the most expensive Gainsborough Rooms of the hotel, which happened to be positioned over the hotel dining area. The music in the restaurant made sleeping uncomfortable as it came through the floor and walls of our room, until the last person had left and if we were lucky the music was turned off. The music was left on all night on our first evening. We found the staff helpful and friendly albeit the evening menu in the dining room was limited and never changed.

Wonderful couple night away.

Living only 90 minutes away we knew of this hotel for many years due to media and local advertising. I never thought i would actually get to stay in one of their rooms. The hotel lived up to all expectations and more. Every mod con that is needed is in this old property. Waking up to orginal timber beams on the bedroom ceiling, to sitting in hidden cosy corners beside one of several log fires. To smart, attentive, approachable staff. It made a wonderful night away and do hope i get the chance to stay again.

First room was noisy from traffic, but got a move the next morning, both rooms were very nice. Excellent breakfast, could have been a bit warmer. Staff at breakfast were great.

An Overall Pleasant Stay

Stayed 2 nights mid November '21. Room was nice and spacious with a large, comfy bed and a powerful en-suite shower. The only problem was the WiFi was very patchy hence using devices or the Netflix/Amazon apps via the TV proved mostly unsuccessful. We dined on site for our first night, and dinner was pleasant if not amazing. Steak was a little chewy and fish (battered) a touch greasy. We have dined here previously I should say and all was very nice on that occasion. Breakfast on our first morning was a disappointment as we were placed in the overflow seating in The Brasserie as the main restaurant was full. This unfortunately left us being a little forgotten about hence, no cutlery on the table, coffee & tea brought with no cups, toast brought with no plates, butter or spreads and when they did eventually arrive the toast was cold, as was the main breakfast itself. That being said, the following morning we arrived an hour earlier for breakfast and were sat in the main restaurant and service was this time prompt, attentive and as you'd expect, with a lovely breakfast experience all round. Situation redeemed, well done. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful and I'd recommend it as a nice place to stay.

We were celebrating our 40th Anniversary at the hotel we had our reception at in 1981. The stay was good, but the management staff demeanour, and service standards achieved particularly during the breakfast serving was poor. The hotel rooms and reception area are mow in need a makeover.

The main areas of the hotel are very well looked after. The room we had was a little tired. The bath screen leaked all over, no hand wash in the room on arrival and a few areas of decor needed attention. We paid for an upgraded room but they are still quite small without much of a view.

Excellent hotel. Large comfortable room with plenty of storage. Fridge in room was a bonus. Out of some 20 hotels i have stayed in during the pandrmic The Swan offered by far the best experience. Room cleaned twice a day, bottled water provided at both times. Plenty of tea, coffee etc provided and lovely biscuits! I dined in the restaurant where my food was very good. I did not take breakfast but understand from fellow guests it was excellent. Car parking could be a little tight but there was ample free parking on the street and in an arranged car park behind the Co-op. The spa was fully operational and the hot tub and relaxtion areas were a great addition. I stayed during the very hot weather and a fan was provided. I would have liked to be able to open a window but they were sealed with secondary glazing - understandably given the building's age and character. I will definitely return.

A unique hotel

This is a delightful hotel which has been a hostelry since the 15c.The building is full of character and the staff most helpful. Lavenham itself is most interesting, not to be missed when visiting rural Suffolk

Great Second Visit

This was our second stay. The first was excellent and it’s always a concern as to whether it’s as good the next time. We needn’t have worried. Great service, fabulous food in a wonderfully historic building. We look forward to our next stay.

It is a beautiful old building right in the heart of the pretty and interesting village. The staff were very friendly and plenty of lounge areas for guests. The car park is small but there is plenty of free parking in the village. The only down side for some, might be steps to the rooms, but that's the nature of old buildings, if you want a lift, go to a travelodge

Nice Hotel

It was a good stay. There was some confusion about the room we had booked compared to what we were allocated. We were allocated a Gainsborough Suite whereas we booked a Constable suite. Some of the services such as room cleaning were limited due to \"covid measures\".

Service let the hotel down

We loved the hotel, it's a beautiful building, but felt the service at breakfast could have been better as we had to ask for everything like juice, sauces etc and we received some very burnt toast! The room was fine but a bedside lamp did not work and we could not get on to the wifi.
