Staff were friendly and helpful.
Carpets downstairs were so bad but presume they are in process of changes. ??
Bedrooms seem to have recently been done up. Large with an amazing view of Porthminster beach. But single glazed as old building so quite noisy. Also noise from other floors and creeky floorboards! Bedside sockets did have USB bedroom clean but bathroom floor not great.
Skip out the front plus old broken chairs outside against building doesn’t look good.
But good location for town and did the job for a one night stay. Got a free parking place out front of the hotel, next to broken chairs. First come basis. Also very useful in St ives.

We have just returned.
On arrival the man at reception was quite rude and abrupt

Our room was horrible, the shower broke so unable to shower for one day..
No maintenance man on call to repair so one of the young girls at reception give a go.
She got it working but it only had one temperature (scalding hot).
Back we went to reception, she said she would try her best for us and to be fair it was working when we came back.apart from the rude man at reception desk,the rest were all good.
The property needs a complete refurbishment. So tired and dirty.
The carpet,we'll I've never seen anything like it.
Breakfast ok and location very good,but the owner needs to pull his finger out

The view was amazing too.

The part of the hotel that we given was the old part which to be honest requires a complete refurbishment with a lift as we thought there was a lift but not on our side especially as we were on the 2nd floor and pensioners
We were not told what time breakfast was or where to go for it also the shower in our room was intermittent so all in all not a great experience

TV and Shower didn't work, there is no air conditioning or Wifi available in the building. The hotel is pretty old and well overdue its imminent refit at the end of the season.
Location is 10/10 right by st ives train station overlooking the bay.
Quite noisy at night and the rooms get extremely hot even with windows open and fan blowing (we stayed end of June it wasnt even that hot outside!)

Good location near train station and away from the hustle and bustle of the centre. Stunning views, more than made up for out dated decor. Lovely to lie in bed listening to the waves and have an early morning cuppa. Plenty of choice for breakfast and was able to drop my bag off at the hotel on way into town when I arrived and pick up for my train when I left.

I recently stayed at this hotel in St Ives and had a very disappointing experience. The room I was given did not match what was shown in the booking photos at all. It felt misleading and not worth the money.

Cleanliness was a major issue — the room was not properly cleaned, which made the stay very uncomfortable. Basic services were also missing, and when I raised these concerns with the staff, there was little to no response or effort to resolve the situation.

Overall, the lack of cleanliness, poor service, and mismatch between the advertised and actual room made this a very negative experience. I would not recommend this hotel to others and strongly suggest future guests be cautious before booking.

Lovely hotel with excellent staff. The property is a little dated and could benefit from some refurbishment, but overall we had a pleasant stay.

The only issue we experienced was parking on arrival, as there were no spaces available and we had plans for the day. However, the staff were extremely helpful, took my keys, and arranged to move the car as soon as a space became free. Their professionalism and willingness to help really made a difference.

Our room was very clean and comfortable but could a done with a new window and a paint job.
They is a bar and lounge area with a nice view, but we didn’t visit it.
Parking behind the hotel but limited and you need to book it in advance.
There is a lift up to the 2nd floor which is a blessing if you have lots of luggage.
The staff are polite and welcoming.
Ideal location to visit the town and beach a stones throw away!
We didn’t have breakfast but it was £12 and you need to book before the night.
Complimentary tea and coffee and milk and sugar and built in soap and body wash dispensers.
Great value st £100 a night for a double with sea view.
Could have done with more space by the wi how to admire the view in our room.

Stayed for two nights over the bank-holiday weekend. Our room was fairly small, but had a great sea view, and we were lucky enough to have a private balcony.

The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. The shower was good, and we weren't disturbed by other guests.

Breakfast included a good range of both hot and cold options, although on the hotel was very busy on the weekend we stayed and I think they were struggling to keep up. The dining room was spacious and had great views.

We were lucky and managed to get a free parking space right outside the hotel. There is a car park just over the road if not, however it does get very busy.

The hotel is within walking distance of the town centre and the beaches.

I would happily stay here again.

The hotel would have been a grand hotel in her day and will look forward to coming back one day when she is renovated. There are numerous bad reviews of this hotel but we found it it a good place to stay. We didn't have a beach side room but for somewhere to dump your bags a comfy bed and room did the job.

Difficult to get into the bathroom due to narrow opening between entrance and the shoer. But the shower is excellent. Well worth it for the money we paid. But renovation is literally about to start as of March 2026.

Lovely views, room came with hair and body wash, bathroom was slightly small but worked for me and my cousin as we went for a couple days away, however the body wash gave her a really bad allergic reaction but no “ingredients” on the dispenser so not sure what to look out for! If you have sensitive skin or any allergies definitely be careful! Our 3 days there no one came and “topped up” any of our tea/coffee station! Staff were lovely.

This hotel is worn out. The reception staff were not particularly friendly and didn’t tell us that there was no room service unless you asked for it by 10.00am.After the first day of no room service we complained and the next day it was done. However, they still didn’t tell us that we had to request it, so the next day it also wasn’t serviced.We’ve never encountered this before. Also, the stair carpet leading to our room was not cleaned in the four days that we stayed. We know this because there was a leaf on one of the steps when we checked in and it was still there when we left. The only redeeming feature was the breakfast and that was good.This is not the standard that we expected and we will never stay there again.

The room was tired and dated. Windows need replacing as you could hear every car go past. Heating was too hot and on full whack you could save money here. Water pressure was awfully low. Breakfast was very good, service brilliant but the kitchen door was banging every time and you could hear this even from the bedroom! Hurt our ears to listen our room was 110. You should consider a swing door for the kitchen! Wouldn’t return, but the hotel has so much potential the view is stunning and here’s hoping now it’s been taken over you’ll be able to succeed with a refurbishment

The lobby’s and dinning areas where clean and nice but the room I was in “21”well it needs to be taken out of service, all the wall was showing mould had been there previous and just painted over, pipes in corner of room had mould and rust pulled the bed out away from wall covered in mould, carpet had holes in all over, bed mattress and base needed throwing away. The hotel is situated in an ideal spot, very close to the town and a number of beaches. The staff were excellent and the hotel was very nicely decorated ready for the xmas period. The breakfast was absolutely excellent with everything piping hot. Parking at the hotel is very poor but there is local car park parking by the train station a short walk away (albeit up a lot of steps and up hill).

The hotel is very dated and the rooms themselves need redecorating and brought up to date. Compared to other hotels and B&Bs this was very cheap in the area and maybe you understand why when you see the interior.

We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting family in the area which was ideal, but if you had booked it expecting a nice modern hotel you would be disappointed.

This hotel was probably the worst Hotel we have ever checked into. So much so that within 10 mins we found alternative accommodation for the weekend. This hotel is horrifically outdated, poorly kept, dirty, very smelly the place generally feels unsafe. The room was horrendous with \"clean me\" etched into a thick layer of dust on the wall. Unfortunately, I can't give any further feedback as we left as soon as we could, although the person on reception was friendly and warned us the water may take some time to heat up! Don't be fooled by the location and photos! Stay somewhere else or sleep on the beach.

We were apprehensive after reading previous reviews, however we were positively surprised. Our family room was large and spacious and the beds very comfortable. The deco is dated but everything was clean, the staff lovely and what a view!!
If you want luxury, 5* accommodation, this isn't for you. If you want a comfortable, friendly hotel to stay in while having easy access to the town centre of St Ives, this is it.

The parking was very difficult. About 14 parking spots for 88 rooms. The garage had a big pile of rubbish in one corner…could have accommodated 2 more cars.

Hotel needs updating and a deep clean. Its cheap and cheerful and in a brilliant location. Unfortunatly rooms are dusty and bathrooms have black mould. Carpets around the hotel need cleaning. Its a very noisy hotel with fire doors slamming through the night, hearing peoples conversations, tvs and showers etc the walls are very thin! Staff are very friendly though and the gift shop at reception is lovely. The bay window seating areas by the bar are also lovely with sea views. Hotel has great potiental.

We stayed at the St Ives Bay Hotel for 3 nights, and while the location and views were undeniably beautiful, there were several aspects of our stay that fell short of expectations.

Each morning at breakfast, I asked for coffee with oat milk as I’m allergic to dairy. Every day I was told, “Sorry, we’ve just run out.” Once might have been understandable, but hearing the same thing three mornings in a row felt rather implausible and suggested that dairy-free guests aren’t well catered for.

Housekeeping was also inconsistent. On one of the days, our room wasn’t made up at all, and on another, basic items such as toilet rolls and soap weren’t replenished. We had to request these from reception, which wasn’t a huge inconvenience, but it added to a general sense of poor attention to detail.

The room itself had a wonderful sea view, but was tired and in need of refurbishment. A few examples:

The shower screen was incomplete, making it impossible to shower without soaking the bathroom floor.

The shower temperature was extremely difficult to control — it was either scalding hot or freezing cold.

Paint was flaking on several walls, with visible signs of past leaks & damp.

The curtains in the bay window didn’t fully cover the windows, leaving gaps at night.

Some of the furniture was damaged or missing edges.

It’s a shame, because the hotel has real potential — the location is excellent and the staff were generally polite. However, the overall experience didn’t match the setting.

Quite probably the worst bedroom suite that we’ve ever encountered: bedroom- walls covered in stains, carpet worn & filthy, broken pain of window glass & mould around window edge, top opening window wouldn’t close properly, half a lock on outside of bathroom door, all floor area squeaked, as did above us, next door & hallway, could hear light switches next door;
bathroom - mouldy grout, rusty towel rail, rusty bin, tiles at end of bath coming away from bath, silvering at bottom of mirror no longer there, bath plug wrong size;
Lots of cigarette butts at main entrance stairs, communal toilets on ground floor dirty, smelt damp, no toilet roll in ladies but plenty on floor.
It’s no surprise that you pay before you see the room!

Nice location in beautiful St Ives. Close to station, Porthminster Beach and a bustling harbour with lovely shops and restaurants. Very nice staff. Large, Comfortable room overlooking sea. Due to hotel only having a couple of parking spaces, the nearest car park was down a steep hill with lots of steps which would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.
Overall, an enjoyable stay.

The view from our room was amazing .free parking out side was a great plus . Hotel very in of an upgrade . Entrance nice but downstairs hallway leading to the toilets was smelly and needs sorting . Big Gaps at bottom of room doors letting light in at night. Floor boards in room loose the room above we could hear every footstep and movement day and night . Wry loud all floors need sorting . Towel rail in bathroom very rusty . Put sign on door to have room cleaned second day and no one did it . Food and drink can’t comment as did not use them

Good, bad and ugly

St. Ives is an inspiring location and the cliff top hotel opens out onto some stunning sea scapes whether from bedrooms, dining or communal rest areas.

The staff are generally good and pleasant, the breakfast really very good plus, rooms are of a good size.

However all areas of the hotel are shabby, smelly, and in a very poor state of repair, or rather disrepair, and maintenance; there are around 6 car park spaces for more than 80 rooms; no provision whatsoever for “disabled” guest parking; the hotel is so inaccessible with lots of stairs across sloping levels, no ramps and a single, poor, limited access elevator that you wonder if the hotel complies in any way with the Equalities Act!!

So, beware and be warned, the hotel is not for the faint hearted or those lacking mobility.

St. Ives Bay Hotel was in the perfect location over looking a beautiful beach and within a 3 minute walk from the town. It is also only 3/4 minutes from the train station.

Unfortunately this hotel is in dire need of a refurbishment. All the carpets are stained, there was dust everywhere, and the curtains need to be replaced. The shower was no more than a trickle. The road is noisy but we expected that and took earplugs.

However the staff were friendly and helpful, the bed sheets were clean and the breakfast was good. We didn’t have the evening meal but other guests said it was also good. The WiFi was free and worked everywhere in the hotel. We where told be a staff member there is going to be a complete refurbishment next year to bring it up to a 5star standard.
