Excellent location but not up to a Novotel standard…only one lift for over 300 rooms.
A nightmare especially as the only working one broke down with myself, my granddaughter and other people in it albeit for a very short time…used fire escape and ended up in some back lane…had to ask directions to get back to the front of the hotel…told reception staff but just seemed fed up with the situation…really long walk from room to lift…door cards were cancelled a day early…overcharged for breakfasts..awaiting refund…there seemed to be no management in the restaurant.
Staff tried their best and were very polite but disorganised…lack of cleanliness around the breakfast area.spilt food,coffee juice…no plates for toast, missing bacon or beans etc…although choice was good..enjoyed a well cooked evening meal…
I have used many Novotel especially at Auckland airport…always excellent but this one in Melbourne needs much attention… sorry but will not use again or recommend and think twice about using the brand…

Great location. Waiting on new lifts, so presently there are limited lifts and quite crowded. Clean, nice friendly staff and centrally located. Breakfast is very good but coffee is poor. Tea is very good, lots of options. Would still recommend even with the lift issues

It suited our needs to a tee for our short trip to Melbourne.

Lifts were not all in working order and were on the slow side, most noticeable during times of peak use by hotel patrons. Wasn't sure that there was an attempt to fix the non-operational lift with any urgency despite the obvious need to.

We've stayed at this hotel a number of times but were dissapointed this time. The hotel is looking very tired and is in need on a good upgrade. One lift wasn't operational for the entire stay which was frustrating at peak times. The breakfast buffet was frequently unstocked and what was available was less than impressive. Not sure how you can muck up scrambled eggs!
The rooms are very standard, and we didnt have the "basic" room. Not all amenities were restocked daily.

It is well located and safe, but the lifts are a pain as there was only one officially working, out of the three, with only one marked as out of order, so it was taking a long time both ways. Allowing 5min extra for each trip up and down is advisable. Breakfast was basic but okay; a bit pricey when you consider the cafe options and their cost nearby.

The breakfast menu was ok, however, we got tired of the buffet breakfast after the second time we had it. There are plenty of small cafes nearby that serve perfect breakfast.
The staff was very pleasant, allowed early check in, which was very helpful after the overnight flight. The downside was lift operation, out of 3 available lifts, only one was functional. During peak hours, the waiting time was very long, ended up using stairs most of the time, which are also not clearly displayed. Very inconvenient especially when carrying large luggage.
Location is perfect, close to tourist attractions, cafes and shops which will suit each taste and budget.

Hotel description states “Luxury hotel” pretty average to me, rooms have no power points next to bedsides. Be sure to request a room with a view at booking time, otherwise you’ll have a room view with air-con system vents. Ensure you bring your own toothbrush, razor and basics no longer provided. Two sets of lifts; inconvenient for seniors

The breakfast was amazing: a wide choice of hot and cold dishes. The grab rails in shower & toilet were excellent, with a fold up 'table' in shower area. I thought the towels too thin. I also would have liked the option of warmer air, when the nights became cooler. I thought one more light was needed above the sofa in Room 803, or nearby, for reading.

Well we’re do we start , room is dated no view paid for a upgrade spa room stuck in a corner ,carpet is a risk hazard waiting to happen ,frays as you walk into bathroom and throughout room had to ask for a additional chair so we could sit and eat as there was only one (1) chair in room
Ordered breakfast and it the order on the door well and truly before the 230 am cut off woke up to NO breakfast when looked outside the door at 900am order still hanging on door come home to the the bathroom not cleaned at all spa still dirty
This is the worst experience we have experienced with Novatel which we have frequently used for our previous accommodation
Ordered room service for dinner and had to wait 1.45 hours for it to arrive then at 400pm dirty tray still sitting outside room ,DISGUSTING

❌ Not Worth even 1 Star ❌

My experience at Novotel Melbourne on Collins, was terrible. Reception rarely answers calls, and when they do, room service requests (towels, water, etc.) are delayed for over an hour — if delivered at all.

Only 1 out of 3 lifts was working, causing long queues. Floors smelled unpleasant and felt poorly maintained. No assistance with luggage. Staff show zero urgency or accountability.

The Wi-Fi is painfully slow, and better access is not provided. Dirty glasses were not removed at water dispencer. If you look at the couches or seats kept on reception, absolutely dirty and not cleaned.

Overall, poor management and extremely disappointing service. I would strongly advise others to reconsider before booking.

3 problems.
Firstly I arrived in the country at 23.00 and checked in at 00.30. Reception took my credit card details and email address. Within 4 hours I received 2 scam emails from ‘PayPal’ and someone tried to buy AUD 500 of bitcoin from my credit card. I complained to the manager of the hotel and he blamed Expedia for the data breach. I’ve been using Expedia for decades without any problems.
Secondly the bathroom was not cleaned properly all 3 days of my stay. I had to request fresh towels and toilet paper.
And 2 out of 3 lifts were out of order the whole time.

Brilliant location. Massive room. Clean and new room. Really good gym and pool. All good so far! However, I was welcomed as Mr (even though I’m a Ms), the milk in fridge did not get replaced for my second day and there was only one out of 3 lifts working which meant a long wait . I often resorted to using the fire stairs - but got stuck on one occasion. Also noticed no hand cream (which is provided at Novotel Central)

Why is there a set of 2 lifts that go up to reception only (level 3) and another set of 3 lifts that take you to your room? The layout is not user friendly

Always great to stay at the Novotel on Collins. Perfect location to, well everything; shopping, restaurants, theatre, cinemas and transport. Tram right out front and Flinders Street station, one block away. Plenty of car parking options nearby if driving. Staff are always friendly, rooms are spotless and they have all the amenities you need, and smack in Melbourne central. Enjoy your stay!

I spent 15 nights, not one staff member attempted to even ask my name. Poor service, crowded and not helpful in general.

Biggest issue was the AC, it’s temperamental and it varies up to 2 degrees so suddenly the room is super hot then super cold. It can sit either on 24 or 19 no other options and it’s terrible. You can’t control your room temperature.

The lift stunk the entire time, and sometimes the lift just decided not to move.

Room maintenance is basic on daily basis, even when you put the towel on the floor to get changed sometimes it doesn’t.

Basic coffee station with extremely limited options.

For the amount I paid and for 4.5 star level. I’m not impressed at all… would think twice about re-booking here

room was nice and clean. working out the lights was a nightmare- god knows how the bedside lights work and you couldnt get the lamp to stay on with out the room lights so it was either pitch black in the room or bright light. rooom service phone line went unanswered multiple times, the air con was redicousley noisy when it reached temp and shut down - so much so that i had to wear earplugs. the plumbing from the room next door also excessivly noisy if they had an early shower. front desk staff were great and location is very good. 2/5

Location was perfect! So close to all the major shops, eateries and entertainment.
Staff were extremely helpful, polite and responsive with requests.
Room was very clean, amenities as they look in the pictures. The only change I would make is requesting a room no where near the elevators. Our room was directly across and I hear them go up and down all night.
Other than that, great experience.

Arrived at the hotel late in the evening around 9:30pm and was told they had no rooms available. Dispite me having a confirmation email saying the room was booked. I was told 2 others were waiting for rooms and my response was don't I come first as I actually have a booking confirmation? The Duty Managers only response was I can cancel the booking for you and I said no I would like to just go to the room. Neither staff behind the counter bothered to assist and frankly looked as they didn't care that I was left without accommodation late at night in the city. Only advice given was to try booking somewhere else LWTF seriously poor customer service for a Gold Loyalty Member. Not impressed at all with the total lack of regard that I had no accommodation on my own late at night to roam the streets to find something. Seriously poor customer service..
