I recently stayed at ibis budget Melbourne CBD and found it to be a decent option for a short stay. The room itself was clean and well-maintained, which I appreciated. However, the overall atmosphere felt a bit gloomy, likely due to the dark or dull paint choices.

The bathroom setup is a bit unusual cuz the toilet is separated from the shower area, and instead of a proper door for the shower, there’s only a curtain located outside near the sink and shower space. It works, but it may feel a bit awkward if you’re sharing the room.

There’s no microwave in the room, but guests can use a shared one in the dining area, which is convenient enough. Laundry facilities are available as well, though limited and there are only two washers and two dryers, and each use costs $5.

Overall, it’s a practical and budget-friendly stay with clean rooms, but a few design and facility limitations to keep in mind.

Wouldnt recommend. The shower is next to the bed, actually within the room. It has no door, just a shower curtain!! Theres a small amount of laminate flooring, otherwise the water just runs onto the carpet!! No hairdryer in the room. No extra toiletries. No face washers. Only 1 pillow each. Power point and bedside table on one side of the bed, but nothing on the other. The toilet is beyond compact, my knees almost touched the door! This hotel doesnt lie when it says budget!!! To finish the experience, my coffee mug handle fell off and coffee landed in my lap and a ceramic shard cut my finger.

I think I paid a demand pricing premium but this hotel did not feel like it was worth the price. It felt extremely budget. It was quite noisy and the aircon was ancient and loud. I think at a discount it would be fine, but at a premium it felt very shabby indeed. If you're going to upcharge in the up season at least dust the rooms!

Did not have breakfast there. The room was clean and air conditioning operated well. The shower needs improvement. Partially fixed door and the rest open makes the water spill on the floor and wet it. There should be sliding door installed to prevent water spillage.

Room was very clean. Staff were super friendly. Incredible location, close to two tram stops and a close walk to the station.

Room was NOT what was advertised, shower was apart of the room with only a curtain separating it from the beds. Hallways are a little erring and the floor creaks, paints chipping off the wall, and carpets are stained but this doesn’t really affect the overall stay.

Mouldy shower, damp carpet in the room. Hallway was saturated, presumably an attempt to clean them.

Aircon unit appeared to be shaking out of the window, rattled the night away. TV reception was terrible.

Overall manky and yuck.

Stayed at Ibis hotels a lot before but not budget....

I understand this is a low end option, but the place is awful. The quality of the room is beneath basic expectations. The room felt like it had not seen any basic maintenance in years, you pass wheeliebins in the corridor when trying to get to your room, the bed linen is clean but worn and clearly old, there are two mugs but no glasses in the room. Its a depressing place to return to, I am surprised ibis put their name to it.

I booked based on location and convenience for a work trip, during the week of the Australian open so few options. The pictures show a basic hotel but don't prepare you for the low quality. I bought as a package with flights, but i didn't get the feeling it was cheap, i regularly visit Melbourne on business and this did not come across as a cheap option. Was relieved to check out.

Good stay overall. The rooms are compact and simple, but exactly what you’d expect from the budget range—functional, clean, and perfectly adequate for a short stay.

The location is a real plus. Everything I needed was within around a 20-minute walk, making it easy to get around without relying on transport.

Staff were friendly throughout, often wishing guests good morning when passing in the corridors, which added a nice, welcoming touch.

The only real negative for me was breakfast on the first morning. The area was clearly overrun and had run out of several essentials—cups, plates, bread for toast, milk and butter—and the coffee machine wasn’t working as the drip tray was full. Staff did eventually get on top of this, but it took around 20 minutes for things to settle.

On the following two mornings, the breakfast area was much quieter and everything ran far more smoothly, which showed the setup works well when it isn’t under pressure.

Overall, a solid budget stay with friendly staff, a great central location, and clean, functional rooms.

The shower had no door, just a curtain which leaked water into the room including the carpet. The room smelled damp and gross. It worked for a quick 2 night stay in a great location but would rather spend a bit more money for something better in the future. Also, I forgot a small pocket size mirror and after confirming they found it, they refused to hold on to it for 2 weeks until I came back.

Although the hotel location was great and our room was quiet, maintenance was neglected. With no tea towel to wash cups for a second drink, sugar was lacking and not filled (had to get more twice), no rubbish bin in the room or bathroom, no power point in the bathroom, which had the only mirror, making it hard to get ready.

The walls leading to the room from the lifts and inside our room were damaged by the lack of care from what I assume were laundry trollies; however, it was odd that these laundry trollies were filled and left in the hallways, making it hard to walk down with luggage.

Only one pillow on each bed, normally there is two bed so I did have to ask for an extra one but that was okay just a bit surprised. The bed lights attached to the bed were broken and did not work. The little window in the room that’s a lot of light in so this was quite frustrating. And lastly the small countertop was dirty when I first arrived into the room. (Sticky marks from juice?)

The whole building could do with a refurb, it’s kind of dirty and the flooring is quite stained. Overall a little bit pricey for what you get.

First impression of hotel was not wecoming. The room had no opening windows,the non opening window had pigeons roosting outside. No curtain on window. The bed sloped to one end. No bedside tables and no facility to hang clothes. The toilet cistern ran all night. Breakfast was unappealing. We did not stay to eat. I reported all these faults to the lady at reception,and asked for refund just for breakfast but was told she couldn't because i had booked through Expedia. This does not deserve the star rating.

The room was not properly fit for occupation. The reading light above the left side of the bed had no bulb and the on/off switch was broken. There was no bedside table on the left side of the bed. The toilet flush buttons did not operate properly. The air conditioning fan in the ceiling above the toilet and shower was noisy and on constantly.

Our first night we were woken up at 3am by a garbage truck operating for almost an hour beside the hotel. We informed the staff we wanted to be moved away from the alley way, but they ensured us the garbage truck only operates on Thursdays. This was a lie, it woke us up every single night at 3am. We informed staff that our shower only had two pieces to its 3 piece sliding door, they said the entire hotel was being renovated. So our floor was soaking wet the entire stay. Pretty horrible all around, do not stay here if you want a good night sleep.
