We really enjoyed our time at this hotel.
Most the staff were fantastic. Only one that was a little unhelpful.

The rooms are clean and up to date.

The added bonus was the pool. This was great as a time filler when you have a little one.
Although I would say that this hotel is definitely aimed a little more to an older crowd.

My only negative about the whole experience is the Hotel app itself.
I booked this holiday with breakfast but apparently you have to add that on. Just make it better to use.

I am very disappointed in this IHG Hotel. Having stayed in the one in Amsterdam I have such good expectations especially because the staff there were very hospitable. However for Berlin City West, booking via Expedia I am sure that I booked the room with “Breakfast included” and upon checkin the staff said breakfast is not included and I showed him then he agreed, the next morning going for breakfast I was told that I need to buy breakfast which I was shocked because I thought upon checkin the staff fixed it. I went to the reception again and the person said oh I’ve added now. However, on the day of checkout, I was told I need to pay for breakfast for the 3 days. which left me utterly shocked. I said no, I told the person upon checkin but he argued upon which I said I wanted to see the manager. The guy who is the manager came out, he said oh with such low rates you booked breakfast definitely was not included. I booked a month ago, where the rates were low, I didn’t book 2 days prior to check in. The staffs are unfriendly. This is not what I had expected from an IHG Hotel at all. It should be made explicitly clear on Expedia as well as on IHG if or not breakfast is included. Having paid more than fair share of money for something that was said to have been included but was not, this is absolutely ridiculous. I will never stay at this IHG hotel again especially due to the lack of hospitality by the staffs and for not making things perfectly clear instead of the back and forths

Reception was understaffed (particularly at peak times) and disorganised - tried to charge me for my stay, despite our having pre-paid and a receipt. Also forgot to pre-book a taxi for me, despite having agreed to do so.

The hotel is an hour's schlepp from Berlin centre. Pool was not available - Expedia website had not indicated that their pool was out of use or I would not have opted for the place. Worst of all, the staff was TERRIBLY RUDE!!!! Other guests said so, too. They were not hosts, they were employees whose principle job it seemed to be to make it clear to every one of their 'guests' that theey were unwelcome and a pain!! I have decided that following this experience (and a similar one previously in Baku) I will not be staying again at the Holiday Inn Chain anywhere in the world. If it is a toss-up between that chain and a campsite, campsite wins every time. Dreadful place - spend your money elsewhere, guys!!

Best Stay, Best Hotel!

I was already thankful that they were still able to check us in past midnight, our flight was delayed and ended was at the other airport 30-1 hr far. - check in was easy, we got in the room and it was huge!!! Their was privacy between my mom & my husband & I, its like having 2 rooms in one. Bed is comfortable, very clean, I wished we could of stayed longer but needed to catch a flight early to go back home. Highly Recommended! if you think of coming to Berlin, 14 minutes or less to Tegel airport, they have a free shuttle too! :)

Service and room cleanliness was great, but the room was hot! There’s an outdated thermostat that doesn’t make any sense, no instructions, and I’m not sure actually works. I could not sleep because of how hot the room was. I adjusted the thermostat multiple times but nothing changed. Also, parking is not included. There’s a parking garage you can use but it’s 20 euros per night! (Not included). You can park on the street but good luck finding an open spot. Other than those 2 things it’s a good hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and up to date (besides the thermostat).

The attendant Berapaz11 refused to honor The price I agreed to pay and was charged on Expedia of $51.55 dollars and charged me $75.99 in Euros. I had to bring up the Expedia price on my phone and go back and forth with him making me late for the airport. First he told me the difference was dollars/ euros, then he said my price only went down because I used an Expedia coupon, ... not making sense

Overbooked Shouldn't Happen!

We arrived on our check-in day only to find that the hotel was overbooked and they didn't have our rooms available nor any other rooms. We were told that they were overbooked. Overbooked is a word that shouldn't exist in the travel industry! No one from the hotel called or emailed me about this problem in advance. We are part of the IHG Rewards Club and have never had this happen to us at any of their chains of hotels. We were very upset and had to scramble around and find another hotel close to TXL airport because we had an early flight.

There was no A/C in the room. It was not working. They lied to me by saying when out side temperature is little cool, A/C does not kick in. When I told them, I am an Electrical Engineer with 40+ year experience....finally they said this is what they have been told to tell the customer.
Small Refrigerator in the room was also not working. Most hotels include BREAKFAST but no breakfast was included. This HOLIDAYINN was total disappointment.

Holiday Inn Berlin City West was clean and close to the airport, which suited our stay. Check-in was a long wait, as there was a tour group ahead of us that needed major sorting out, due to the tour group leader, not the fault of the hotel staff. The airport shuttle we were planning on using did not materialize as the shuttle was in for maintenance. On the plus side, the hotel restaurant was large and well staffed, there are restaurants a few blocks away, and there is a small supermarket right next door with basic necessities and a 2 euro coffee machine. BTW, the Asian tour group cleaned out the Nutella supply at the grocery store, and who could blame them? lol

I would give the hotel an eight out of 10 for quality. However, I specifically picked this hotel for a 3 night and 4-day stay, because it had a fitness center and swimming pool. When I checked in they told me that the pool was down for maintenance, and it should be fixed immediately but I could not use it that day, or the fitness center. I asked if I could cancel if they were not made available later in my stay and they said no. After three days, neither the pool or fitness center were available, and I asked to cancel the last night, and they refused. This was false advertising, and they should have accommodated a guest due to their facility problems. So I took two points off for not having the facilities as represented, and another two points off for still charging the last night.

The next day, our cups were not replaced or washed, there was no washing soap or enough toiletries in the bathroom either.
The bath towels we were given were as small as hand towels.
The internet didn’t work on the first day too.

Return visit after a few years

Having stayed at this hotel on trips to Berlin for many years, I got so fed up with poor check in experiences and housekeeping issues that I gave up on it a few years back. Decided to give it another go for this trip - my mistake! Arrive at 11.30 p.m. to be told that one of my rooms (I booked two) was now smoking rather than the requested non-smoking. Asked for duty manager (\"she's not here\") - insisted on (a) a non-smoking room, and (b) seeing the manager. Eventually both happened but only after much complaining (it turned out the duty manager was \"here\" after all). Then we get to one room (which had been used as a \"day room\"?!) to find that it stank of cigarette smoke. So, at quarter past midnight we changed rooms. The hotel is very tired - worn carpets / poor TV reception / generally grubby. All in all, between the worst check-in experience in my travelling life over the past few years (ironically only previous experiences at this hotel came close!) and the deteriorating standard of the rooms and corridors (they say things are being renovated but they are probably five years too late) I would strongly advise giving this place a miss - I will never be back, and told them that on the first evening. Someone from IHG needs to have a look at the place - it falls well below the standard of the brand. On the positive side, I was offered a couple of free breakfasts as compensation - as a matter of principle I turned them down - all I wanted was a decent, troublefree stay!

The best thing about this hotel is location close to Berlin Tegel Airport. That is why I booked it to be close for early morning flight. However, the room was not clean there were foot prints on the bed cover and dirt in the bathtub. The other drawback was no fridge in the room. The bed was extremely comfortable so that was great! My other problem was with reception, the rudeness of the clerk when I tried to order the airport shuttle. I was informed I could not get the shuttle at 8am when it was the starting time of the runs as they were not starting till 9am due to shortness of staff. The clerk did not offer another alternative she just walked away. Poor customer service to say the least. The saving grace is the bus runs right by the hotel. For the price this hotel was not worth it in my opinion especially since no airport shuttle for early morning flights.

Couldn't get into my room

I arrived late as my plane from France was delayed several times. After much hassle getting to the hotel, the front desk staff informed me I couldn't get into my room as they were doing \"inventory processing\". I can't imagine preventing a guest from getting into an already-paid-for room because of a hotel procedure. Needless to say, that colored my entire stay. 30 minutes later, I was finally allowed to get into my room for my 5 hrs of sleep before racing to the airport for my next flight.

Airport Shuttle Did Not Run - Personnel Issues

A disappointing experience at a plain hotel.

I choose the Holiday Inn Berlin City West because it is near Tegel (TXL) airport and I had an early flight. Upon checking in on a Monday evening, I asked about the airport shuttle service for Tuesday morning. I was informed by the front desk staff that there would be no shuttle on Tuesday because one driver is on vacation and the other is sick. My only option I was told is to take a taxi which ended us costing 15 Euros.

The hotels.com web site states \"Airport shuttle service is available during limited hours. Contact the property in advance to get details.\" I did not think limited hours meant the shuttle is not running during regular business hours. In my experience of traveling I never heard of an airport hotel not making the shuttle available due to personnel vacations and sick leave. I asked for the manager to contact me regarding the policy, but I never heard.

The hotel is very plain. Clean, old and renovated to be an average hotel in a suburban area.

We had an early flight so we moved across Berlin the night before and choose this hotel as it was a major chain. The booking in was ok but when I got to my room it was strange to say the least. I believe it must also be used as a break out room for conferences as there was a room divider in one wall unit and the beds folded out of the wall. The room itself was shabby and one of the blackout curtains was missing. Being on the ground floor I had to assemble the room divider so I could sleep I ask for another room but was told there were no other rooms which I do not believe for a mid week. To summarise I paid major chain price for one of the worst nights

Convenient location/ but NO airport shuttle for me

The hotel is in need for some upgrades, however, my room was clean and in good condition. The TV was tiny, the bed low quality, the bathroom was great. The shuttle service they advertised didn't run on the day I arrived and didn't start anytime my plane left from the airport. so that Euro 30.00 for taxi that you have to add to the tab. Some of their staff is pretty rude, however, in Germany I noticed that this happens a lot.

Second stay in this convenient hotel

This time I was not happy with the hotel. Yes, it was again comfortable for our business trip, the bar served again great Zombie, nut the sleeping quality was bad. For some reason, I was not able to control the hot radiator during the night, I was opening and closing the windows every other hour. I tried to stop the radiator at all, but in the morning I say ‘Please do not adjust’ label. So, in the morning I was tired, and I had some business meeting to cope with. It's close th the airport...

And it's fine. In a utilitarian sort of way. Rooms are a bit worn & dated. Not much to do/see in the immediate area.

Would recommend this place if you have an early flight out of, or a late flight into, Tegal.

For more action, move to Berlin, proper.

Nice place to start and end trip to Germany.

Close to airport and excellent breakfast buffet. Free shuttle to and from airport but need to call hotel to arrange. Quiet setting. Can get downtown via train or taxi.
