Bedroom layout. Including a sofa meant bed was too close to bathroom doors. Having a separate toilet, means you have to walk round to wash hands. Bath very slippery. Access & egress could be dangerous for the less agile. No continental breakfast is worth 19Euro.
On the positive, the room had a coffee machine and kettle. Parking is excellent and the hotel location spot on. Reception staff are very friendly but restaurant staff either don't like the English or are over worked.

3 nights in La Rochelle

Excellent location of this hotel allowed us to experience a lot of things by foot. All staff members were very friendly, helpful and polite. The swimming pool was a real bonus. Would highly recommend for families. Breakfast until 11am children under 16 free. Great value for money.

The room was just Ok. The Air Conditioning was controlled by the front desk. A little cool during the day and at night had to sleep without any bed covering. The room should have been much cooler for the price. The mini bar was not very cold at all.Was told it is just a Mini bar not meant for food just drinks. Well I have been in many hotels and all mini bars have been cold to very cold. Next time will stay in the 4 Star next to the Aquarium in town. Tried to stay next to the Aquarium but was all booked for the 5 nights that I needed to stay.

The pool is small for the number of guest rooms. One of the bedside lights in the room was not working and the air conditioning was poor. The restaurant menu is very basic. My wife had gnocchi, which I am guessing was not prepared onsite. It was clearly reheated quickly and at too high a temperature, which meant that the gnocchi was burnt but the cheese had not managed to melt into the sauce. The waitress was curt towards us throughout our dinner. This was not because we complained (we didn´t) or because we were not polite and friendly (we were). She did not pour our wine (she did on other tables), we had to ask for condiments (usually offered with fries) which were then banged down. I was served different fries to other guests that were also having Moules frites. Mine appeared to be from the menu enfant, as they were the same as the ones served to our child. The fries were cold. All in all it did not feel like a restaurant experience, more like a cheap pub serving reheated food by rude staff.

The rooms start at 210 euros per night, so we were expecting more.

Overall experience from experienced family traveler = Mediocre.

This is in no way a 4-star hotel. Room was extremely basic and dated, ive stayed at nicer premier inns. We booked a room for two adults and one child. When we arrived at our room we saw it had a sofa but it hasnt been made into a bed for our son. When we called the reception, after much explaining, we were told we just had to make it as the bed was made \"inside\". You'd think that in a 4-star hotel someone would be sent to the room immediately to sort it out. We managed to figure it out ourselves after it became clear they had no intention of helping us. I dont even want to know how long that bed had been made in the way and how many people sat on it with \"inside\" sheets not changing. The bathroom was a joke with no toiletries apart from budget hotel style soap dispenser in shower. Toilet was a separate tiny cubicle, ive never seen anything like it and cannot fathom how this can earn four stars. Staff spoke almost no English which I guess its fine but it didnt stop them giggling about our lack of french behind our backs- I speak five languages, French just isnt one of them so I dont appreciate it. When we arrived at the hotel restaurant and sat down a huffy waiter came to tell us we shouldnt have sat down without asking him. Im sorry but for a hotel with supposedly four stars and at the price we paid this is not acceptable. The food tasted nice though so there is that.

Perfect for what we wanted.

This hotel ticks all the boxes when looking for a stay in La Rochelle if you want to be in a quiet location but within striking distance (10 min walk) of the lively port. Wi-fi is good, pool is fine although on the small side, food is excellent and staff are extremely nice. It’s also on the edge of a really nice park so it’s not as though you are away from the port in a built up area as you aren’t. Lastly and importantly it has plenty of parking on site.

Amazing hotel, a short walk from the town centre. Great for travelling with kids, restaurant and bar has a small play section. The pool is very deep with only about a metre before I couldn’t stand up, so if you have any non swimmers, take armbands for them.

Good location & not far from the main town. The room requires a full refurbishment not just a mini makeover that it’s recently had. It also needs a good clean as remnants (dust etc) still remain for the mini refurb, especially in the toilet & shower area. Nice pool but enough sun loungers.

Pleasantly surprised

Only a one night stay in La Rochelle en route to St Malo. Despite my initial reservation about the corporate Novotel brand in such a charming town, I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The hotel is situated in pleasant park grounds just a 5 -10 minute walk from the old town. Staff were great, interior decor around the bar area was great and even a table football set to boot. Breakfast was excellent. Strongly recommend

Car park for motorbike, swimming pool and garden, room lovely and spacious, clean and bed comfy. Breakfast good. Unfortunately we were contacted to say the room would not be ready till 5 and we arrived at 3pm. The receptionist told us to sit in the lounge/restaurant area and she would let us know when it was ready. At 5.10 I returned to reception as she had not come over to us and we were told by a different receptionist that the room was ready. Thought this a little poor but we had had a snack lunch in the meantime which was very tasty. We had tea, coffee in our room but no spoons or stirrers to mix in sugar, just a small point.

Nice hotel within green space near the beach

The staff were brilliant. I was well informed of travel and traffic. They accommodated our family of four. The room was small but very clean and perfect.
The hotel was in the centre of a park so there was plenty of run around space for the kids. There was an animal park in there also which the kids like a lot. Very close to the beach front and eateries at the port. The only problem was we were only staying one night as a stop over.

We had an enjoyable stay. This hotel is slightly out of the old town which means it is quieter but still only a short walk from everything. The rooms are newly renovated but a little odd in that the bathroom has frosted doors meaning light comes into the room when used at night. No basin in small separate toilet is not to my liking. Buffet breakfast was good but it was not clear how to order the “city” basic breakfast and staff at breakfast were a little confused. Overall very good for a family hotel.

Staff very friendly and helpful even tho our French language was very poor. Hotel very clean from reception to our room. Bed linen and towels fresh and clean. Mini fridge to keep our water etc. Air conditioning in bedroom which helped on very hot nights. Swimming pool was great. Ten minute to port/beach. Fifteen minutes to town centre. Good shops and excellent array of restaurants.

This was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. The situation was perfect, a short walk from the marina and a park opposite to walk our dogs. We could not fault the hotel, we had our evening meal there. We have avoided group hotels in the past but if this is the standard that they are aspiring to, well done. Price was very competitive.

Very nice hotel in the centre of La Rochelle.

This hotel is perfect for families. They have a heated pool which is good size. The hotel gives you the towels. They also have a kids room which is maintained. Some hotel they do not usually bother with this. Breakfast is nice with lots of French products which is lovely. We had a great time. The hotel is also very near The Concurrence Beach. Near the beach there is a little animal park with peacocks, ponies, goats, chickens, ducks and a play area. Kids love it. We will go back.

Travelling through France to UK, La Rochelle was one of our overnight stops. The hotel is standard Novotel, well maintained to a good standard, with everything you could ask for. The room was AC'd with loads of space and a good bathroom.

Outdoor space is excellent, located in the park it's very pretty, with a good size car park. The harbour is a few minutes walk away with more food options than you could possibly imagine. Get off the main street and have a look down the side streets for cheaper food and drink prices with a more authentic menu.

Firstly the staff in the hotel are very good. Always helpful and of a good nature. This includes all of the Reception team and also the other staff in the hotel.
The location is great because it is a short walk to the port and other bars and restaurants. This is not a criticism of the hotel, more a delight to be in the town!
The rooms are good and a good size with all you generally need in the room, plus good for the dog.
Breakfast is always a good start to the day and the dinner we had in the hotel was good.
Plus you have good parking.
All of the above plus points are not a reason to increase your prices!!!!!

Decent enough hotel but felt more like 3 star.

Stayed for 3 nights in Nov 15. Hotel was not what i would consider 4 star. More 3 star. Tea and Coffee facilities in room offered paper cups. Toilet separate from shower so everytime you went to the loo you then had to go into the shower room to wash your hands as no sink in toilet. Bed was comfortable and location was quiet (5th floor and front facing) which was a bonus but the hotel is through a park so in Nov it was dark walking through it at night to go home. Wouldn't suggest it then for lone females. WIFI was good. Breakfast was v good = full selection buffet style. Most of the staff were lovely however 1 female member who worked the bar and did the breakfast one morning should not have been working in the 'hospitality' industry. Face couldn't crack a smile and made it feel like an imposition when you asked for anything. Reception staff were great and one in particular (I think Vivien? was excellent and managed to get us a taxi on the Saturday night when the firms were all really busy so many thanks to her). My sister was in the fold down couch bed which she said was comfy as well. All in all a decent enough hotel but felt more like 3 star.

A lovely short break!

Our room was on the third floor and was comfortable and clean! The complimentary toiletries are always good with Novotel and I also liked the bottled water in the fridge! This hotel is on the edge of a lovely park and was quiet and yet only a few minutes walk into town. All the staff we met were polite, friendly and helpful!

La Rochelle Visit

Nice hotel but a little difficult to find as on a one way street and Sat Nav struggled to find it exactly but got us close. The hotel is a little walk from the main town via a park and some back streets. Room was a little quirky with the bathroom being a set of double doors next to the bed but not enough room to open or pass next to the bed. Some of the furniture was also interesting with moving tables that swing out. Breakfast was fine but we did not use the restaurant or bar. The reception was poor when we arrived with about two words used when we checked in to say second floor and not much else when we checked out although other staffs were pleasant when approached for assistance. Good size car park although not much security but seemed safe enough. The pool was also very nice although the area looked a little under used or cared for as shades available not not put up and beds piled in the corner.

We only stayed for 4 nights but everything we needed was catered for, location was good and very friendly staff. We would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Spacious room

Nice hotel a bit out of the main town but worth it for the ease of parking.
The walk into the town centre was an easy 5 to 10 minutes. The room was nice and spacious with tea making and a fridge.

La Rochelle stopover

A really nice Hotel and grounds in an excellent position on the outskirts of La Rochelle centre. Helpful staff, decent rooms, good breakfast and good car park. Ideal for a stop over for a couple of days - yes will use again.

Excellent hotel - but

This hotel offered the best breakfast we had from the whole trip. They truly do know how to cater to a European clientele. The room was fantastic, the food was very well presented and of the best quality. Only issue we had was a room facing the front of the hotel and had to cope with 24 hour illumination. Always, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel - much better.

Very welcoming modern hotel

Our group of six travelers had a lovely stay overnight at this hotel. Courteous welcoming staff from the front desk to the bar and restaurant. Our supper meal was delicious, and the breakfast buffet was great; high quality and extensive selection.
The location was also nice, in the park and within a short walk of the old harbour.
I highly recommend this hotel.

Mini break in La Rochelle.

Hotel is in a brilliant location just 10 - 15 mins walk from beach or town through a lovely park.
Parking is easy and plentiful which was important to us.
Staff couldn't do enough for you.
Would stay again if visiting La Rochelle in the future.
