Really good rooms, good size, very clean and well maintained. Feels a bit weird when you first get in due to the shape of the building, but soon got used to it. Common areas and pool very quiet and nicely kept. The plunge pool and hot bath was a bonus, shame the sauna and steam room weren't quite ready for use as currently being refurbes, but looked great.
The bar on the top deck is worth a visit for the view.
Good location, easy to walk to Kata and Kata Noi beach.

Dated hotel, but still a good stay

We spent 4 nights here while staying in Kata and had a pretty good time. My main criticisms are that the hotel is a little dated and needs some restoration. We also had issues with the wifi, which was out for an entire day. The rooms are super comfy and the bathroom is great, but we feel the hotel may have been a casualty of Covid.

Cleanliness was generally great, but we did discover two dead roaches in the room after returning from outside. Note as well that the hotel is up on a hillside, so be prepared to walk up a bit when returning.

Overall a great property. The rooms are large, the views are beautiful, the location great, the staff friendly and accommodating. The only issue was the WiFi is very slow; however, we purchased a 4G unlimited mobile package which solved that problem.

Overall the hotel is pretty nice. It is on top of a hill but it’s not as bad as many people make it sound : it literally takes 30 seconds to climb the hill and get to the lobby. The hotel has a bit of a weird setup (you might need to take a couple of elevators to get to your room), but the rooms were nice and comfortable. The hotel is also conveniently located close to restaurants and shops. Finally the breakfast was good and with enough variety for a few days.

Contacting the hotel a week before the booking was very difficult as emails and calls weren't getting picked up. Later on they said the email didn't go to their main line. Once they answered, it was smooth from there. The hill that people complain about isn't that bad, it's nice exercise. Room was spacious and the jacuzzi tub was great to soak dive gear and dry it on the huge balcony. The queen bed was actually 2 singles put together, but it was still comfy and clean. Bathroom was a bit small and in the morning there was a bad smell from pumping sewage, keep it closed. Area nearby was great and convenient. The sky bar was amazing, loved it. Also enjoyed the omelets at breakfast. Hotel did a thoughtful event for easter too, very sweet. Rented scooter through hotel too @250 baht and airport transfer @ 1000 baht. Nice hotel, we enjoyed our stay.

I’ve been numerous times to Thailand in the past 10yrs but had never experienced such bad service and attitude from a hotel. During our 5 nights stay it felt like the staff had no proper training or simply could not care enough to provide a good service.
To exemplify, a hotel so-called 4 stars cannot:
give to couples a voucher of welcome drink for one;
serve cold food at breakfast. The buffet overall was pretty unsatisfying;
run out of hot water daily;
refuse to supply ice to the room and instead tell you to go buy it in the supermarket;
be unhelpful when you need a taxi;
advertise its free mini bar that consists of: 1x cola; 1x juice and 1x beer;
advertise its sky bar that is only open from 5:30pm to 8pm. IF it opens: in one of the evenings there was no one working there, I called the reception and the excuse was the bad weather, which was not the case, it was a beautiful evening and there were many guests like us just wanting to enjoy the sunset;
insist to charge you for a broken drinking glass - which for sure we did not break.

Yet, with all the limitations, the most upsetting was the kind of answer to each situation: always a categoric and rude “NO”. Without any of the kindness and sweet hospitality typical of Thailand.
Which is a shame because the property itself is nicely designed and the location is really good. But the service was so bad that along our stay we had no desire to even try the swimming pool - whatever, the pool bar was always closed anyway.

Room had a leaky air conditioner which would deposit small amounts of water on the floor.
After it rained outside random puddles appeared in the room.
Towels weren't replaced even after 3 days use.
Room was tidy bed was ok to sleep on. However shower screen had what appeared to be years of hard water stains and questionable mould growth on ceiling of bathroom, grout and silicon was a very suspicious off white almost yellow colour.
Bathroom was so small I had to go outside to change my mind let alone change clothes.
Check in staff super friendly and efficient.
Elevators stunk of what I would describe as wet dog smell and it was so overpowering I thought I would be sick.
Room cost was about 2,600 baht but I would suggest that a price closer to 500-800 baht would have been fair.

This is the third time we have stayed at this hotel. It is in a great location for the beach and entertainment. However, although it is not an old hotel, it is starting to look tired. Needs a facelift. Marks on walls, showers and mirrors not cleaned the best. We had a pool access on the third floor which was great. Breakfast is good. The road up to the hotel is awful now. Once with shops and tailors, is now derelict. Not a good introduction to the hotel. The staff are very friendly and obliging.

We spent 5 nights at this gem of a hotel. We really could not fault it. Staff went out of their way to assist with requests, in particular Paul and Pear. It was close to shops and restaurants, a few minutes walk to the beach, really quiet at night, and very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

Good but not perfect hotel

We enjoyed our stay here, though the hotel wasn't perfect. The room was big, Wi-Fi was strong and breakfast was good but the room was a bit dirty when we got there. The view was nice with a partial view of the sea. TV reception was bad, and when we asked them to fix it, they tried but failed. Oh well. Overall, we would stay here again when in Kata Beach, just hope they fix the problems.

We have stayed here before and returned as like the location to the beach & restuarants. The hotel is set into the hillside with a very steep road up to it, albeit, only for a short distance. Good buffet breakfast. Happy to help with printing of boarding cards etc.

I stayed alone at this hotel for a night with deluxe room (a pool is outside my balcony sharing with other two rooms), the view at the room was astonishing! It's easy to access the big pool from 6/F. Great architectural design as the hotel located on the hill, great view of the pool and flowers from the room, doing yoga in the room in the Morning with this view was great. Free drink at the bar watching sun set was great! Free minibar with drinks in the room. Easily assesible to restaurant and I found bargain deal for shared transfer to airport at a small stall across Kata Resort & Spa Hotel :)

Food at hotel is fair, but breakfast with the great view compensate a bit. Only downside is walking a short 30seconds uphill to the hotel and not so good finishings at the toilet wall and sink and a bit dark at toilet.

All in all I enjoyed the relaxing stay there for a night. Can hang around for 2days and 1 night.
Will stay again.

Not quite pleasant, I was arranged to a pool access room uphill, elevator cannot reach so that we have to walk. Hot water for shower is not hot, can't enjoy the shower time. The worst thing is when we ask concierge in arranging a midnight taxi to the airport in advance, the staff said okay and he didn't make any arrangement until we called concierge again by 11pm!

We stayed 5 nights at Sugar Palm Grand Hillside and had a great time! The hotel staff was excellent and was very helpful. The room was big and spacious. We were on the 7th floor which had the view of Kata beach. Other reviewers have complained about walking up a small hill to the hotel but with the hill you could see the whole of Kata so it was defientely worth it.
The pools were clean and well maintained.
My only complaint is the room cleaning service, for our whole trip they cleaned our room around 4pm which was when we'd be back from our day out and wanted to go rest and have showers.
But overall it was great, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is travelling to Kata beach.

A lovely time at Kata beach

Firstly, they didn't charge me for an early check-in as I arrived in Phuket at 7am, that was nice to begin with.

Room is very spacious and so as the bathtub in the bathroom, very relaxing throughout my stay. Mini bar is free of charge and re-filled everyday, certainly an extra plus. The hotel isn't far away from Kata beach (5-7min walk), yet it's very quiet on the slope, great for traveller like me who wants some peaceful time when resting in the hotel area.

I have to mention the roof top bar at 7/F, excellent view with sunset and buy-1-get-free for any alcohol drinks. Thoroughly enjoyed that for 2 nights in a row!

Morning breakfast is good, however they may want to improve the hygiene as I spotted flies around the uncovered fruit at buffet area. Also mind you, it could be a bit of walk if you live at the higher floors, it's quite a maze with nice swimming pools.

Fantastic Hotel located up a hill. Staff at the reception was friendly to assist day or night. I stayed at the poolside access which was great. Well worth the money spent and great experience having your own private pool/plunge. 5minutes walk to Kata Beach, catching the sunrise and sunset which was blissed. Plenty of restaurants closeby the hotel, all within walking distance.

We had a great experience w the staff at e hotel who were willing to go the extra mile to help us retrieve a mobile phone we left on e cab by accident. With their help, we managed to get the phone bk. They also left me a complimentary fruit basket in the room for my birthday and greeted me \"Happy birthday\" when i called the front desk, a very sincere gesture. The room was very clean and well maintained, we got the room with the outdoor bathtub which had a great view of the beach. The hotel is just a 5 mins walk away from the Kata beach and they have convenience stalls and restaurants nearby. The only slight improvement they need to make is to clean their swimming pool more often as dirt particles could be seen floating in the water. But if you're looking to have a quiet time by the beach or in the comfort of your room, this is the hotel to go for.

The hotel is located 1.5 hr drive from airport and in on a very steep hill, most taxis and tour busses want to leave you at ghe bottom of the hill for you to claim it .
Not suitable for older people or families and if you are in general not as fit and strong .
Our room was in a upper level which was great for the view and private pool ghat teo room shares - its nice to cool down after a long day .
However to get there was something else - 1 elevator to 4 floor then walk acros the whole building take another elevator to 9 floor and then clAim two more floors of stairs - i mean you need 10 min just to go down from your romm to loby ans then another 5 to main road
Beach was close by , nice but nothing special a lot of russian tourist and prices of food is ober inflated and the food itself not great - we asked for local people places and walked to main road to have some nice simple street food and it was cheap and fantastic
The hotels room shower needs ipgarding as tiles were mouldy and toilet seat very ssqueeky and hard to open
Mini pool by ghe room not so clean and fake grass carpet surpunding it was strange
The hotel has this modern concrete design and it was not cosy and not romantic at all , grey and white rooms more like bussiness man one night stay hotel - we were glad we stayed juat two night and used it as a base for trips

Great hotel in a good position for the main street and the beach, though really quiet to be able to get good rest at night. Lovely room for a 'standard' and exceptional when the cost is considered at less than £25.00 per night, including breakfast !

Mini bar with water, orange juice and a beer free each day and an excellent range of choices and fresh food for breakfast each day. AC worked 'properly', keeping the room cool for a good nights sleep.

Pools were great and hardly used so gave a real feeling of tranquillity when using them. No noise from the hotel, other rooms or the street/ traffic so an ideal choice for me. Literally only 50M from the main street and 150M from the actual beach.

Staff were friendly and most speaking very good English.

I would recommend for couples and singles, but maybe not ideal for families as there is little for the children around the pool areas unless proximity to the beach is important.

Definitely an A* for me on my short visit and would be happy to stay again.

Actually was really surprised when we checked in, I wasn't expecting it to be so nice. We stayed in the pool access room. Really spacious and clean. Great view of the beach, the town and the Big Buddha. Staff didn't clean well the first day, but after we asked them to make sure to sweep the floor, it was better the rest of the stay. Bathroom was nice, huge tub and a big shower stall too. One downside was no double bed - it was 2 twin beds pushed together. My wife complained about the bed being hard, but it was fine for me. They refill the minibar with waters, beer, orange juice and a cola everyday.

It's just a 5 minute walk from the beach, and tons of shops and restaurants close by. I was a bit disappointed by the beach - it was really dirty, tons of garbage and flotsam everywhere. Hard to swim cuz of the surf, lost my sunglasses after being hit by a wave. Luckily it was actually much nicer to swim in the hotel pool. Kata is definitely a family area, and everything was a bit more expensive to reflect that. Touts were fairly aggressive, but not as bad as some places I've been. There is a day market on Monday and Thursday which was within walking distance, as well as a Tesco Lotus Express. It's also nearby the bus stop. so you can go into Phuket town for quite cheap.

What a fantastic hotel. Located at the quiet end of Kata it provided a peaceful and tranquil location for our stay. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a cooling drink and checked in without any fuss. In fact the staff throughout our stay went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room was a good size with a large king sized bed. Lots of extras (bathrobe, slippers etc) were a welcome addition as was the minibar being refilled everyday on the house! The infinity pools were gorgeous and we were lucky enough to have them to ourselves for a lot of our stay. Breakfast was substantial and filling and set us up for the day. Loved our stay so much that booked for a further 5 nights after returning from a tour. Free luggage storage was provided for us whilst away and we were upgraded to vip status as returning guests ( free airport transfer, discounts on hotel services etc) absolutely fantastic and a lovely touch showing they value their guests.
We look forward to our return here in the future!

This is a lovely hotel in a great location near to Kata Noi and Kata beach too. Rooms were spacious and were clean, tidy and had plenty of amenities. The rooms are modern with plenty of light. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the hotel which was breakfast and the odd lunch which were all very good.
This hotel is not recommended if you are infirm as up a steep
hill.
We would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here for three nights. Very pleasant. There isn't much to the hotel. Just a dining area to eat in, a reception room to check-in and check-out and then in a separate building the bedrooms. But this hotel was exactly what I wanted and the staff were excellent and efficient.

Very nice getaway

It was our first time to Phuket and we stayed 5 nights at the Sugar Palm Grand. Overall it was a wonderful stay! We stayed 1 night in the room with private pool entrance and 4 nights in the Jacuzzi room. The rooms were average, a little dated, but overall nice. The staff was excellent! They did a great job at cleaning our room daily and restocking water, and other complimentary drinks. Breakfast was average, and mostly the same each day but still nice. It's about a 5 minute walk to the beach and just a couple minute walk until you get to many restaurants. We would stay here again if we come back to this area of Phuket!

Good location but pay attention to pool access

Good location in terms of proximity to restaurants and the beach if you don't mind the short walk up the hill. Suggest you get one of the Grand Pool Access rooms to get best access to one of the upper pools. The front desk advised that the Grand Deluxe rooms could only use the main pool which was several levels below our room in building 2 (but we cheated...heh heh). The included breakfast buffet was great value for the small added price.

Comfortable hotel close to the beach

The hotel is good value given the price. Rooms are comfortable and have all the requisite amenities. The best aspect about the hotel is its location - a small walking distance to Kata beach.

Nice hotel.

Clean rooms, two beds put together but were huge, rooms cleaned every day, clean towels daily for room & beach. Bathe robes , slippers & beach shoes ( although slippers looked worn ) & 2 umbrellas which were useful for us on one night. Also safe supplied ,no charge. Large fridge in room, filled daily with 2 small waters,, 2 soft drinks & a beer. Good air con although a little noisy. We were on 9th floor, very quiet, able to swim & sunbathe in peace.

Relaxing place to stay

We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed our room and the pools. Rooms were spacious, beds were comfortable, and having a balcony was lovely. The location is just a short walk from the beach and from plenty of food options. The restaurant at the hotel is also nice, and convenient. The only odd thing is that, due to the hotel being built into a hill, if you stay near the top there is an extended trek to the room. Not difficult, but takes 2 elevators and 2 flights of stairs. Stay on a lower floor if you feel this will inconvenience you!

My return stay at the Sugar Palm Grand Hillside

The Sugar Palm Grand Hillside is located in Kata, which is a more quiet section of Phuket, it's about 15 minutes by Tuk Tuk to Patong. Within a short walking distance to the hotel is Kata town with a lot of really good and inexpensive restaurants, Kata beach is also within walking distance.
The rooms are spacious and clean, the AC works great with WIFI. I was very disappointed by the breakfast, in the past is was very good, this time around, the quality was really poor and the food was not good.
For the price the Sugar Palm Grand Hillside is a great value.

The hotel is situated on a very steep hill and is most suited to younger people.The driveway is a very steep walk up to the lobby.

Nice hotel near Kata beach

Had a great view of Kata beach from our room. The beach is just a few blocks away. Hotel has a series of pools all the way up the hillside. We really enjoyed our stay here!

Get it all for less!

The location is perfect. Close enough to the beach but far enough from the crowds. For the small price difference, it is definitely worth upgrading to the pool access room and enjoying your infinity swim every evening. It is more modern than many of the other hotels in the area. Easy access to all the major tourist attractions (aka the beaches!)

We had a perfect 1 night stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and the bathroom had both shower & bath. The cascading infinity pools are accessible at every level of the hotel. Buffet breakfast was great - wide choice of food with eggs cooked to order. We'd definitely stay here again.

loved it !

The staff made our trip - we were traveling with our 2month old and they were very accommodating, friendly and just wonderful from the moment we arrived. Hotel is at top of a steep hill - but only 50m & helps to burn off everything we were eating. Breakfast and room service were delicious! Rooms are very nice, large and clean. We stayed in pool access - best decision we made! Location is perfect in middle of hussle & bussle, close to beach, but very quiet. And pool waterfalls are helpful in drowning out noise. Overall, had a great 12 nights !! Thank you Sugar Palm :)

Lovely

We had a room on the 5th floor, we didnt see or hear any of the building works people have mentioned in other reviews. The room was decent, bed very comfortable, pools fantastic, breakfast a bit basic but still more than adequate. The location is great for the beach and Kata Beach's attractions.

The staff are fine and happy to help.

If you want to escape the chaos of Patong, this is place is perfect.

Poor service and maintenance of hotel

Just stayed there over the new years. It was such a shame as we had high hopes for this place as the photos looked great. We did see other reviews about the hill being steep and just thought if eveything else is fine we would just give it a go, The hill is tiring after a long day out howver the walk to your room is even worse. There are elevators on one side of the hotel so if your on the other it isa trek. lifts are also designed so that if you need to go to e.g level 14 you cant just take one lift ... you take one to level 4.... then another (situated a distance away) for your next?? Puttting that aside, our first impression of the reception staff was not good either. Not a smile and not friendly at all. This was not just when we checked in even checking out, not only did they try charging us for services we did not take but did not smile once. During our stay we experienced a black out and had our water cut out for half an hour and not even one apology. The rooms were average and bathrooms dirty not to mention the slippers that were so old that it was not only brownish in colour but you could actually see the heel cushion area was worn out. Location wise is convenient, but definately would not recommend this place....not worth the money!

Great location 5 mind from beach. Airport pick up from airport was reasonable price and friendly. The eh room was spacious and bed comfy and huge! Areas for improvement - no shower screen so bathroom was absolutely soaked every time. Breakfast was ok but service was poor - lots of dirty tables and had to ask a few times before got a drink! Check out was slow - staff kept ignoring us I had to ask 4 times to check out and pay our bill! Overall good hotel but could be a lot better with greater attention to customer service

Renovators Paradise...

This hotel could have been beautiful if it wasn't for the renovations that we were NOT told about. Such a disappointment.

We constantly felt like we were living on a construction site with dust, materials and workmen everywhere from early morning to late at night. Half the time the elevators didn't work and the stair wells were full of building materials. The pools, although nice, looked uninviting and the pool bar was closed.

I am sure this would be a lovely hotel, in a fantastic location if it wasn't for the renovations.

DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE FINISHED.

Good modern comfort. Will recommend.

It is my second time staying at this hotel. I think it is good for someone who prefers modern comfort. Also it is close to the surf in Kata Beach. Overall I was happy with my stay. The only complaints I have are that they closed their Spa (which I had really enjoyed and was looking forward to) and their internet connection was out like half of the time I was there. Not to mention the signals were weak inside the room. It was really frustrating because I needed to get things done urgently for work and couldn't. I'd suggest that they change their internet provider pronto.

Nice hotel close to beach and very good staff.

We enjoyed our stay clean and large rooms nice pools and views and close to Kata beach,nice beach. Large bathroom and comfotable bed,great and friendly,helpful staff. Breakfeast not the best choice and rennovations being done on top floor when there so was noisy,moved rooms after first night to pool access and all good and quiet. Would stay again next time in Kata.

Very nice hotel, excellent value

I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The staff is very nice, helpful and happy.

Rooms are modern, clean and quite large.
There are a number of swimming pools in a terraced structure, they are clean, well maintained and look absolutely fabulous.
It seems all rooms are facing to the swimming pools, same also have ocean view (mine did).

It has a great location, 3 min from the beach and bars/restaurants without any traffic or nightlife noise.

It is excellent value, It could be very easily a 5 hotel.
