The location is amazing but thats where it ends. It could be fantastic with some imagination and investment but to have to use a bathroom on another floor just isn't viable in this day and age. The decor was tired and the whole thing felt unloved.

Lovely warm spacious room, ensuite shower room/toilet with shower gel.
Very comfortable bed and space to sit in front of TV.
Smart TV, kettle & tea/coffee/hot chocolate provided (+milk& sugar).
Lovely quiet street, very peaceful amongst the old buildings and looking across to one of the college gardens.
Lots of interesting places to walk to within 5 minutes, colleges, museums and also many lovely restaurants and cafes nearby.
I didn't have time to walk to the river but that looks lovely & there are boat trips.

The room itself was clean and cosy, quite small but good for a solo traveller. The bed was comfortable, and the hushed noise of the street outside was sooting.
There was no one on reception for the duration of my stay. I was stuck outside in the rain for 5 minutes trying to get in. I rang the number on the window and was given the key-code for the lock box to let myself in, and check in myself. Other guests had this problem.
No toilet or bathroom in the room was a real annoyance as the toilet was far away from where I was. No clue where the bathroom was, as there were no signs or receptionist to guide you.

Quiet, cozy, comfortable, clean room. Very Oxford vibe, old construction. Incredible location in heart of city center but on a quiet street so you really feel tucked away inside. Service was great, and responsive. There is not a permanent attendant like at most hotels, it was quite old tech with a lockbox and just the key sitting in a bowl in the reception area. I would stay again for sure.

We stayed in the Jade Room, and it was so spacious! My daughter and I had more than enough room to feel comfortable and have our own space. The room included a closet, a makeup table, and tea and coffee, which I especially appreciated in the morning.

The location is fantastic—within easy walking distance to many of the main areas we all come to visit in Oxford, with plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby, and a Tesco not too far away. We were about a 15 minute walk to the train station, though it honestly felt even shorter.

We arrived a few hours earlier than expected, and with just a quick call, the owner allowed us early access to the room so we could store our luggage and start exploring the area right away.

The tower hotel should not be described as a hotel as it’s more a hostel. I stayed here for one night 22nd may 2025 as it was a few minutes walk from a theatre I was going to. The room was disgusting, holes in walls , the ceiling about to come down, the sheet around the bottom of the bed was filthy, radiators hanging off the wall , a chair that if I’d dared to sit on would have fallen through. The whole place needs gutting & redone. I’d have driven home & not stayed but didn’t fancy a 2 hour drive after the theatre & being tired. This place is a disgrace.

Great location, but...

Tower House is in a great location, right in the heart of Oxford. It's an old building so it's not unreasonable to experience some old-building rough spots. But the entry and room were both run down. The photo I saw when making the booking was nothing like the room I had. Possibly other rooms are better.

It was stated that there was not 24-hour service. The host was there when I arrived and I understood that to mean there were limited daytime hours.

I explained that I would leave my bags after checkout time and the host said that would be fine and showed me where to put my keys in a basket when leaving.

I left my bags in the office behind the desk.
The host was not there but I expected him to be briefly away. The outer door was locked.

When I returned at the time I'd noted to pick up my bags the host was not there and I was fortunate that there was another (frustrated) traveler who opened the door to my persistent ringing.

Perhaps the host meant for me to retain my room key until I picked up my bag; I was not told there wouldn't be anyone there in the afternoon.

A cleaner, better-maintained place and clear communication are in order. I can't recommend Tower House.

It's right in the centre of Oxford so easy access to pretty much everything. The nearest car park is a short walk away.

No breakfast on offer but there are plenty of cafes nearby.

Right from the outset the guy on the desk really couldn’t care less, maybe a student earning easy money. The 3 rooms we all booked were just disgusting on every level , mould, ripped wall paper, filthy carpets and holes and damage in the walls. It was so bad that we took a video of the room as evidence of how shocking the quality was as there was actually a hole in the wall! The “so called” bathroom was full of mould and damage in every area. The bed was appalling we did not get one minute of sleep as it was so small and uncomfortable. We booked two nights( and had prepaid an extortionate price) but we left after one night as we couldn’t stand the low standard for one further night….
I have no idea how the past reviews were generated but I would certainly question the source of these…..
I travel a great deal with my work and this is the worst place I have stayed in by a country mile….this is also the first time I have complained through hotels.com so I leave it up to you on your choice …….

I was booked in for a two night stay. On arrival, I was not happy with the condition of the room. It appeared that there had been a leak on the floor above the room, with a damp area around the bed and wallpaper peeling from above the bed. There was unpleasant mould in the bathroom and a horrible damp smell.

The check in staff assisted me to find an alternative room, which was an improvement, and I paid a supplement for this room. However, I was woken in the night by the blind falling off the wall. I couldn’t reattach the filthy blind. The room was tired and unclean, with dirty marks on the wall. There was no shower - only a bath with a Pyrex jug for washing. I checked out after only one night and have received no response from the hotel team to my requests for a refund for the second night. Yes, it’s cheap for Oxford, but it’s not worth the money saved. Avoid!

I am going to want to return to this fascinating 17th century lodging that allows one to rent a well-appointed room while sharing a toilet/shower with others. The experience here is a bit different...I never encountered a staff person at all but it didn't matter. Clear instructions were given what to do, and I more than had all I needed. I personally really liked my room. What I found to be charming and historic might worry others. The floor angles a bit. Some places on the walls are fragile to the point that they are ready to crack open, like weakening plaster. I was very careful not to bump anything...but this is an old dwelling and it felt like a privilege to be able to stay in a place like this! This is just to warn that this is not a modern, renovated structure; it shows its age in places.
The room had a nice television, with an actual closet and good hangers. A surprisingly generous array of treats, glasses, water, tea etc were provided on a little tray. The bed was extremely comfortable with nice towels and good pillows. I was really favorably impressed and certainly enjoyed my stay; I wish I knew more about the history of the building. Some of my neighbors were a bit noisy with loud talking and late night use of the bathing facility (pipes and pumps) but it is what it is. More often than not it felt like I was the only one there.
This is just down the street from a church housing the oldest stained glass windows in Oxford, so it's hard to ask for better location!

This old building shows its medieval age clearly, but the room (we had The Foundry on the first floor) has been updated beautifully. Huge hand hewn beams still adorn the ceiling, but the room itself is spacious, the bathroom is very nice, and we had a very comfortable home for three nights. Perfect neighborhood, right near The Broad, but far enough to avoid the crowds. Also right near the Covered Market. What more do you want? We will definitely rebook next time we're in Oxford.

This Hotel is not what it looks like on the pictures. The bed is fairly comfortable. The room itself wasn’t as clean as I would expect it. The room we stayed in got its own bathroom but the bath has no shower appliance .
Overall it was not worth the money at all.

This is a quirky hotel chosen for its perfect location. It is in parts of a 17th Century building, so corridors are narrow and somewhat maze-like. Reception is only open during certain afternoon hours, so we had to call a number to get someone to come check us in. They were not far away, though. The room was good-sized and comfortable. No food on the premises, so you have to walk up the street to a cafe to eat.

I never met the person working there. I got my keys from the cleaning lady and no information whatsoever. I had to look for the shared bathroom myself and find out how the locks worked. There was mold in the shower. However, the room was a good size and the location was excellent.

This is a very characterful building in an amazing location, nestled in amongst the colleges. It's important to note that in our experience there was nearly no service: when we were there we did not meet a single staff member. But for us this was fine. We spoke to them by phone, and they were very helpful and flexible with us as we solved some checking-in problems (of our own making, not their fault). Don't expect attentive hotel service and modern facilities but do expect a charming quite amazing ?15th? century idiosyncratic building, a fabulous location, and effective and helpful, if invisible, staff. Highly recommended.

It was a brief stop over to visit our daughter. We were met on arrival and checked in.
On entering our room it was like stepping into a sauna so we turned the heating off in the bedroom but we couldn’t turn off in the bathroom. The room could do with some general maintenance as the light behind the mirror in the bathroom didn’t work and neither did one of the bedside lamps. The showergel dispenser in the shower needed refilling.
We had a pleasant stay, the hotel is very old and therefore due to the age of the property there are a few creaky floorboards and you can hear people moving around the property. Outside noise was quiet.

The place is definitely not worth the pricing, even considering the really good location. Considering and accepting the \"shared bathroom\" option it was assumed that the bathroom is standardly shared for two rooms and is located next door to the room, while in fact it is shared for 9 rooms and located on another level of the building, requiring climbing the stares. The room is very tight and small. The cleanliness of the shared bathroom is not acceptable as the personal only attends property when there are new customers coming. No interim bathroom cleaning is performed.

This is truly a no-frills place. Usually, there is no staff on site at all. Very informal.
The maid who let me in speaks only Portugese and worse French than I do, but we managed.

Simple, modest room and bath.
Nice bed, perfectly comfortable.

No other facilities or services. The fan in my room was past its best days but worked.
Internet worked fine.

Quiet street, creaky old building with very narrow halls and steep stairs.

I know that old houses have their quirks, but I think its important to say-- in case anyone has balance or mobility issues-- that the floor of my room had a good six inch slant. To the point where I slept diagonal on my bed. Otherwise I couldn't sleep due to feeling like I was going to slide off. I also stumbled into the nearby wall every time I got off the bed, having forgotten to brace myself and lean back before standing.
Besides that, which I don't think can be fixed as it's the floor of an old house-- the shower head was broken. So I had to squat down, on a sloped floor, to rinse off.
I felt kind of like I was in a Willy Wonka room, haha.
Even so, for the price and location it was still a nice place to stay.
I was in the Yellow Room, so perhaps the floors in the other rooms were more even.

This was definitely an interesting stay… We arrived at our check in time and the two teenagers at reception seemed to be very confused. They couldn’t find our booking at first and then I think realized they’d put someone in our room but didn’t want to say anything. They had been left in charge but it was clear they were not equipped to handle this on their own. We get into our room and get settled then head out for dinner and an Evensong at Christ Church. We get a call saying they’ve put us in the wrong room and that we have to come back immediately, which we couldn’t do. Long story short, we cut our night out a good bit short so that we could go back and take care of the room situation. I don’t blame the kids, they weren’t equipped to handle the situation, but they absolutely shouldn’t have been left in charge.

We enjoyed this 17th C. guest house. Although dating from 1600, it was up to date with 21st C. standards. Our only mishap was that the central heating was not functioning in the main bedroom, but there was a space heater which helped keep the room warmer during our chilly early April stay. The staff was friendly and helpful, but bear in mind that someone is available at reception only at 3:00 pm. Centrally located, we enjoyed our stay at the Tower House.

This guesthouse is an extraordinary Tudor era house, it was a privilege to stay there. The view of Jesus College from the windows and the incredible location could not be beat. My room was tiny but so comfortable, it had a sink in the room and a closet and tea and coffee making equipment. The bathroom was shared and up one flight but was clean and always available when I needed it. The historical beams and fabric of the house made it thrilling for me to sleep there. There are no staff onsite, which can be a problem if any difficulties arise but they are accessible by phone.

The room we were given was not the one shown on the website, it had a shower not a bathtub. The room and bathroom have peeling paint on parts of wall and ceiling. The bathroom with shower was fine and good size. There was only one marginal chair in the room, so for two people it is not comfortable. There was an electric tea pot for making tea and instant coffee, but no microwave or small refrigerator. No meals are provided. There is no place to lay out your luggage, no hooks, and only hangers in a closet. Hallways are very narrow so that might be an issue for some people. In general it was quiet, but we were there during a slow time of year. The location is excellent, in the heart of Oxford a short walk from the train station.

The deluxe room with ensuite was just wonderful. It was clean, delightful, and warm. The bathroom was beautiful with a clawfoot tub. The room was on it's own at the top of the house/hotel. I slept so well because it was quiet despite its proximity to everything. The location was perfect for restaurants, Oxford University, amenities. I would/will absolutely return to this place. It was lovely and historic and easy.

Third stay & whilst I know prices have risen everywhere, Tower House really does not command its £160/nt cost. Small bed, cheap coffee, cheap soaps, no curtains only….you guessed, cheap blinds so not dark in room at night and finally no breakfast offering. Great location though, but even that won’t take me back again unfortunately.

Wonderful hotel. My room was lovely and quaint and very spacious and with a comfortable bed and had everything in that I needed. Great location down a quiet street.

The man on reception was polite and helpful.

Only slight negative was unsure if the doorbell was working but the man on reception still found me so all was fine.

There are no lifts and the staircases are narrow which wasn't an issue for me, but might be for other guests.

Cozy and close

The Tower House is right in the middle of everything. Our room was tiny with a shared bathroom, but it was clean and cozy and the staff were superb. The rooms are connected to the cafe on the corner so they work very well together. I would stay there again if ever we visit there again.

Centrally located in Oxford

Tower House is in a small and very old building, which gives it a certain charm, and also makes for some cramped spaces inside. That said, it’s very well situated near Jesus College and several really good restaurants, and has everything you need for a pleasant stay. Beds are comfy, and it’s impeccably clean, despite a slightly shabby entrance. Profits from Tower House go to fund scholarships for Oxford students, so there’s a social enterprise aspect as well.

LOVED how close it was to everything- right in the center of Oxford!
I would absolutely stay here again.
We stayed on the top floor with a shared bathroom but never found the shared bathroom to be a problem.
The WiFi didn’t always connect but we welcomed the break from electronics and didn’t really need it anyway.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the whole place was clean and you just could not beat the location! It was also quiet- especially being in the center of town. We had our window open the whole time and were never woken up in the night or anything.
Highly recommend and will be staying here again!

Theft from my room. Do not stay here

1. I left my room at 9 am and returned at 3 pm only to discover that my backpack was stolen from my room, along with my passport, IDs, credit cards, cash, laptop and phone accessories, makeup, and things of personal value. I talked to the B&B proprietors and they did not apologize or show concern, as if this happens regularly. They did call the \"cleaning company\" (which they later admitted is really just an individual on contract) and got hold of Bert (they wouldn't give me his last name) who cleaned my room that morning (between 12 and 2 pm he said). He claimed he did not see any backpack.

2. I filed a crime report with Thames Valley Police in Oxford. I had to cut my time short in Oxford to rush to the US embassy in London to get an emergency passport. There is no refund. It is the minimum they should do for my suffering. I am not even asking for their compensation of my loss, just a refund for my stay which was completely ruined due to the break in.

3. They do not have any surveillance cameras, and as a result, there is no evidence of the theft. The police is utterly indifferent and openly said they would not investigate this case, not even questioning the B&B owners and the cleaner. You are on your own if you stay here and have things stolen from your room.

4. Full English breakfast is a disappointment. Tasteless. Shame on them.

Brilliant position right in the middle of Oxford. The building is a bit shabby but the room was clean with nice towels. Breakfast amazing in next door Turl Street Kitchen.

Great location for city centre and bus station Bitten by? Bed bugs badly overnight Mentioned it next day and was told we obviously had an allergy to washing detergent sheets were washed in Seriously!! With actual bites over us. Internet useless Same response by host It is working on my phone! We had to sit in check in room to get any service. TV didn't work at all either Breakfast was great at Turl cafe though Would stay elsewhere

Very nice staff

The location is great. There is no front desk, but this didn't bother me at all. The staff work around the corner in the restaurant, but I found them to be exceptionally helpful, pleasant, and kind, notably Akim, who really went out of his way, and the eastern European cleaning lady, who was so sweet to me. I would suggest somehow improving the wifi, there were moments when my skype calls froze or ended.
