The room 202 was extremely loud. You could hear everything in the corridor as well as everyone going up and down the stairs and the lift closing and opening as if the wall was made out of cupboard. It was so loud I could not sleep at all. I could make out every single world of tourists that were chatting in the corridor late at night. The showerhead also did not turn. There’s no central heating and the bathroom was really cold.

Staff were very courteous. The room was clean. The towels and linen were very good bed was a little bit hard.
Unfortunately, there was the most awful smell of drains in the reception area near the general toilets on the ground floor. I didn’t mention it to the staff with clearly there is a problem though.

Terrible experience- Told there was no WIFI on arrival.( the 4g is non existent in that area) - should have said WIFI issues on the website or pre warning. The Fire alarm went off at 1am ( there was no fire) - it didn’t stop for nearly an hour, everyone waited in the cold for it to be fixed. Wouldn’t stay again

When I arrived for checkin, I was informed that the WiFi wasn’t working and when I got to the room, there was no cell signal either.

To make matters worse, the fire alarm went off at around 1am and we were made to stand outside for over an hour, whilst the cause was investigated.

We chose it because it was a historic hotel and then found ourselves in a modern outbuilding with a view of the car park where the staff vape. Could have been anywhere!
The room was quiet, comfy and nicely decorated.
The rest of the building looked rather shabby - the lift sounded like it was on its last legs, the corridors need a deep clean to remove the visible dust layers from the panelling.
Weirdly they did not charge us on arrival or at the end, but halfway through our second night which caused a declined transaction and alert on our credit card. Thanks for that!

Hotel is lovely, staff are very friendly and attentive. The room was very warm when we arrived in December but the windows could be opened and air con could be turned on. A fan was also provided (that doubled as a heater).

My main concern about returning is the street noise - mainly sirens every so often kept me awake until shortly after 3am. Do note this was a Saturday night and we'd came back late around half past midnight anyway.

Staff were great but the room in the loft was an absolute disgrace, we complained and got a proper room in the annex which is what you're website displays, being greeted with the first room after a long journey is not on and why I couldn't recommend this hotel at all to stay in, be aware of what I say and book elsewhere.

Paper thin walls - so very noisy, especially when next door arrives at 2:30am and has an hour long conversation on speakerphone. The bar was also trying to close at 21:30 ! However the room was clean but dated with a rotting bathroom door. You expect more from a fairly pricey hotel.

It's not exactly an Arthritis Friendly Hotel, as there is no lift. When our old bones finally made it up the stairs to our room, it was OK. The breakfast service was not up to standard with stone cold fried eggs, undercooked bacon, lukewarm coffee and no marmalade for the toast. There was also no operational bar,The main plus for this hotel is its location. I've read the 'spin', but they need to 'up their game' and improve the standards. There is obviously a Training Deficit here that needs to be addressed.

The hotel was comfortable. The bedroom and bathroom were excellent. Unfortunately the restaurant was out of action for some reason on both nights. This meant a 20 minute walk to get food. Not much fun for an 84 year old with bad knees. This spoiled what would otherwise have been a pleasant and comfortable stay.

The Mecure Eastgate has the curb appeal, a beautiful builing in a beautiful area. The hitel itself is modern and clean. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
Our room was clean and modern, however the tv did not work, one lamp did not work and the other was linked the the main room light. There was also no tea in the drink making facility.
Dining as a person with coeliac disease was a problem. Despite emailing to check they could accommodate Gluten Free. On arrival at the prebooked & paid for diner I was told they only had 1 starter and 1 main that could be GF, and they had run out of the main meal. The manager came and offered a complementary drink, however that was expected to replace the main meal! We walked up the road to The Ivy instead and had a wonderful meal. Front desk were very apologetic and refunded the main meal and credited the breakfast too as a gesture of goodwill.

The only good thing about this hotel is its location. We had a top floor room, good check-in (but £30 a night for parking!) . Room had cobwebs, half painted, door to bathroom needs looking at and shower control coming off the wall - should not be available until finished.

We had breakfast included but didn’t go the second day. Staff dismissive, slow, unfriendly and clearly didn’t want to be there. Food very cold, no proper coffee for a 4 star.

would also question the security. We could get in via 2 doors (one nowhere near the reception so anyone could walk into hotel.) If I was a single traveler this would really concern me.

Overall a very disappointing stay.

A bit of a walk from city centre. The size of the room is decent and very clean. However, there is smell coming from the bathroom when coming in. It was very clean though. Luckily we can open the windows, doesn’t feel claustrophobic. A bit of a noise from the road and buses, but it was nice looking outside rather than having a window looking at a wall of the next building. I had a good sleep.
A big tv and a portable fan/heater provided.

Overall: Underwhelming for a 4 star hotel. You are really paying for the location.

Staff were helpful and friendly. The lobby was well kept. The hotel, at least my room floor, was not as well maintained for a 4-star hotel. My room had no aircon (knew this when booking, so be aware), luckily in the evening it wasn't too warm, but quite warm during the day.

Location of the hotel is very central (main draw).

The room was fine, but expected more for a 4-star hotel. Some plug sockets didn't work. Bathroom was large for a Single-Bed room. Hand soap wasn't refilled. Bed was comfortable. The iron had a lot of burnt residues on (completely unusable), which housekeeping replaced after chasing up directly with them.

Unfortunately, one of my neighbours had issues and kept opening and closing the door. As the doors didn't have slow or soft-closing, the door was slammed continuously for around 20 mins after midnight/at 1am. Could also hear the conversation between the hotel guest and hotel staff. This made it difficult to fall asleep.

Awful room. Extremely hot. There were 2 fans but still it was so hot and stuffy could not sleep. Veronica the manager was not sympathetic at all. Just said sorry. It’s obvious an issue they have all the time - one member of staff told me but management fail to do anything and just have complaints from the customers from rooms without aircon ( half the rooms do). I’d completely avoid as I had no sleep and management don’t care.

Car park was awful. Trying to get in and out and staff have to take your key and details in case it needed to be moved to get another guest out. I wasn’t happy with this and the staff seemed unsure who would move it and if they would be insured. Given how small and bad the car park was I needed more reassurance and details.

When I checked in I wasn’t asked if I’d parked in the car park and wasn’t aware I had to at the time. I sat on the terrace over looking at the car park and I saw a member of staff come out look at my number plate and say to another guest he would find out who it was and them to move it as he was checking out. If I had have gone shopping or out this guest would have been blocked in by me and unable to leave when planned. Obviously I went and discussed with staff and moved. But future guests should be made more aware of the situation and staff need to advise guests and be able to advise. All of the above for the cost of £30 per night!!

The room we got was run down (felt unclean, and the glasses provided were dirty) and extremely hot. There was stairs to get to the room and the AC did not work, and the refrigerator did not get cold at all. We left early and they wouldn’t reimburse us the remaining fee. I would not stay here again.
Also if you are driving a car, I would recommend to not stay at this hotel. The students line up for exams right out the front door and there is noise and activity all around the entrance for the earlier portion of the day. The staff is not helpful with parking.

Badly in need of an update we were right at the top of the building in the loft. It was boiling. The Aircon wasn’t working but they kindly gave us a big fan but it was noisy and hard to sleep. Bathroom was very old but a decent size with a bath. The windows were old and broken. However, the staff were friendly.

Nice hotel, well situated. My main criticism was the heat in the room. It was like a sauna and there was very little that could be done to cool it down.

Good stay close to the heart of Oxford

Stayed 2 nights in a two single bed room. We booked 2 rooms for my family of 4. Firstly the location was excellent for us. Just about a 5 minute walk to the heart of Oxford. The rooms are a bit dated but I have to believe that is fairly standard for Oxford. Cleanliness was again OK. The 2 single beds were interesting. One was very soft and the other was firm. So you will get a variety! We did call ahead for two rooms together but then was told one of the rooms was undergoing maintenance. Also, I believe there was a lift but we never ended up using it. I think we actually stayed on the side without a lift but it was only a few floors so not an issue for us. Overall, the stay was comfortable and without any issues.

The bathroom in our ensuite had an aroma of effluent. Night staff were advised but nothing was heard of this again so assume nothing was done about it. Outside the hotel in Merton Street there was a drain with the same problem.

There was a continuous sound of a working airconditioning , maybe..?? so sleep was a problem
