Rooms are a bit shabby, as one expects from a hostel, but the staff goes above and beyond. Facilities are great, with travel and trekking assistance provided. Plus the prepared is far better than anything one typically gets from a hostel. Bit of a walk across unlit dirt roads from the main center, coming back is all uphill, but otherwise a great place to stay!

Great location, knowledgeable staff, comfy beds and good public space. Extras - laundry service, taxi and travel bookings make this a good spot. Basic breakfast included but can add eggs for a cheap fee. Would recommend this spot. We are older travelers and enjoy the younger vibe.

Экскурсии рекомендую брать в других местах или хостелах , в этом прям на много дороже и автобус и экскурсии , в других на много дешевле . По общей зоне бродят Сабаки, гуляют на улице потом идут в здание , лежат на диванах где и гости , это не очень хорошо . Полотенце платное

The common area and breakfast were fine. The shower did not work almost at all and there was limited water from the sink. It was pretty noisy both inside (people) and outside (dogs). Staff was very friendly and helpful. Did not have a good experience at dinner there - food was not great and it took forever.

Had a good stay here. Breakfast was not sufficient. Just Corn Pops and toast. We had to leave for breakfast in town. Walls were quite thin so we could hear people in the hallways. Overall though, the rooms were comfortable, the view was great and the staff really helpful and warm. Would stay here again despite the issues above.

Fabulous hostel, really warm mid winter - both in the room and common areas, fireplace, the dogs were an unexpected boon! Modern rooms with excellent floor heating - exactly what you want/need after a long day out in Patagonian winter! Good food in the restaurant (arepas!), hot dishes included in the free breakfast, amazing views, reasonably-priced laundry service. Short walk to the town centre. Really friendly and helpful staff. Couldn't be happier.

The place was a bit like a poor youth hostel and the bathrooms reeked and there was sewage like smell in the room. The bunk bed was so so .. the only blessing is that the room windows actually opened and we could get fresh air into the room. The breakfast was nice .. the lounge area had lots of young tourists.

I had an excellent stay at Americana Del Sur! The rooms have only 4 beds and an ensuite bathroom, shower and lockers. The public area is great! Very comfortable coaches and tables, a outside deck and lawn furniture - and you can't beat the view from the all glass wall! The staff was AMAZING!!! All of them were so nice and remembered my name and even the smallest details of what was going on with me. Really personalized service. Very highly recommended!!

I had a great experience at this Hostel and I would recommend it to friends traveling in this area. They keep the place clean, and better than advertised when it comes to the energy of the place. Breakfast is great and the quality of the rooms is better than I’ve found elsewhere. The reason this place is so great is definitely because of the people who work there. Big thanks to Augustin, Micaela, and Bautista especially who were really kind and patient with me. They helped me organize tours and the bus system. My trip would have been les good without them. Huge thank you!

Even though this is on the hill little outside of main area but short walking distance and nice separation to be quiet.

Facility is very clean and they offer laundry service which was great.

Also this hostel offer airport transportation and other fun tours cheaper than many of local tour companies, so you should reach out before taking taxi from the airport or booking online.

Great hostel, one of the best we’ve stayed in after 9 months travelling in South America. Staff are friendly and helpful, always willing to answer questions. Breakfast options are really good. Can book tours at the hostel, we booked Moreno Glacier and we booked the half day kayaking tour, which was incredible. The hostel also booked the bus for us which was convenient.

This was my first time staying at a hostel and I can say that I will avoid hostels from here on out. The hostel itself is actually a nice. I’m just not a fan of sleeping with other people in the room...whom I don’t know. The energy of the hostel is welcoming. The location is pretty good as it’s a brisk 10 minute walk to Centro. Many shops, eateries, ATMs, etc in Centro. As well, if you hadn’t made accommodations for excursions then there are several touring companies in Centro. The hostel has a restaurant inside but I didn’t get a chance to eat there. However, I would say the food is pretty tasty based on other guests of the hotel who did order from the restaurant.

What a great hostel. America del Sur is located on a hill over looking the town of Calafate and the lake. The hostel has big glass windows giving you the outside view from inside the hostel. The staff are really friendly and hospitable. There is a restaurant as well as a hostel kitchen. Over all its a great place to meet other travelers and get a goodnights sleep.

Stayed in a double room with en-suite. The hostel is c. 20 mins walk away from the centre and the double room appeared to be in a new part of the hostel, but very basic. I did not consider the room and place value for money (charged c. €90 per night) and would recommend going elsewhere in El Calafate if you're choosing the private room option. Very busy hostel, wifi is crap in the room, nice common room with bar, kitchen and outdoor seating area, basic breakfast.

Good location, away from town. 10 min walk. Good views. Easy tour arrangements. We had a private room, however it is true hostel style living,I.e. no soap and towel rental. We have stayed at other hostels during our trip and this one was truly the filthiest. Floors unswept, mold in shower, just NOT clean.

The common room has a really nice feel to it, and huge windows. The one down side of the hostel was the breakfast situation... all bread. They do have a sign posted saying if you have celiac disease they will add options, though, and there were eggs avail (for guests to cook) on my last night. They kept the hostel sufficiently warm on cold Patagonia nights.

This hostel has it all: extremely friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and welcoming staff; clean rooms and bathrooms; great breakfast; good location and fabulous view; cozy common areas; great prices. Patagonia is expensive in general, but everything here is reasonably priced relative to the area. Restaurant food is great. Staff is seriously the best. All the tours they offer are great and easy (pick up at the hostel). The mattresses are pretty stiff but everything else is super clean and comfortable. Overall very professional and well-run. Would recommend this hostel to everyone traveling to El Calafate.

I had a great time in this hostel, the commune area with the big windows looking over the lake and mountains is wonderful! The staff is super helpful, the wifi works perfectly, the kitchen is well equipped and there is a bar to buy drinks in the evening. I met some really cool people there that ended up being my travel companions for the next days.

The perfect hostel!

I loved staying at this hostel so much that I basically didn't want to leave. The views in from the common area are gorgeous and the location is quite convenient. The Cal-tur bus terminal was a 15-20 min walk, the town main street is approx the same.
The folks running this hostel friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Almost everyone there spoke sufficient English and were very patient with our embarrassingly broken Spanish.
The hostel is able to arrange bookings for why excursions, bus or taxi rides you may need. Their rates were always the same as booking directly with the vendor and they have receipts for everything which goes a long way in building trust.
Only somewhat -ve was basically that the double bed we had was 2 singles stuck together and the mattress was a little uncomfortable for me. Other than that the room was clean and comfortable. The heated stone flooring was definitely a plus. Oh and yeah, the private bathroom with the room was to die for! Such a wonderful bathroom, new, white modern and super clean.
I loved the place!

VAT return was denied in this hostel.

According to the new tax law(presidential executive order) in Argentine, foreign tourists will receive a refund of the value-added tax, or VAT, paid on hotel services from 2017. But the hotel declined my demand to return it back. I really disappointed by the attitude and rackless reaction of this hostel.

Please keep in mind that all foreigners have a right to demand the tax return! Ask it front desk!! It is your right. The vat is almost 21% of the whole payment!

If it wasn't for a shared room, I'd feel like in a very nice B&B. Staff is just fantastic. The common room very comfortable with fantastic views on the Lake Argentino. You also get to use the kitchen and cook your own food. Or order a barbecue for a very reasonable price.

One of the better hostels however a few annoyances - was put in the wrong bed in mixed dorm which caused confusion with other guests and confiscation of nightclothes left in it - they advertised a gluten free breakfast as I am coeliac but was told they had run out off supplies and wasn't really a lot to eat otherwise - but would recommend the nightly BBQ as it was delicious

Our first time in a Hostel but any initial apprehension soon faded as we were welcomed by great reception staff and made to feel at home. If you are looking for a five star service, this isn't the place but if you go with an open mind you will quickly fall into the same chill mode that prevails with staff and other residents alike. The food unfussy but tasty and there are always the facilities for self catering if on a budget. Suggested trips were good and at much the same price if you had purchased them in town. Would use a Hostel again on this experience.

From the beginning this hostel (especially Oliwia) was very helpful! From booking issues and being extremely responsive, to booking our Glacier Trekking tour (highly recommend) and our bus tickets.

Our room was perfect, very clean, decent sized bathroom and shower. Only downside is there was no AC or fan so it did get stuffy, but we opened the window and put our bags against the blinds so the wind wouldn't be as aggressive and it worked perfectly.

It's a little more on the outskirts of town but still an easy 5-10min walk! And there's restaurants even closer.

Nice and cozy hostel with friendly staff

This is a very nice hostel with really friendly staff. It is very clean and well-maintained. The common area is open, nice and spacious. The breakfast is good and plenty. They also organize virtually any kind of tour or transfer you might need in El Calafate at the same price you can get online. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the city center and 15 to the bus terminal. I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely stay there again.

I nice hostel with a great common area with good views over the lake.
Dorms were clean and had good private bathrooms. However the dorms were on the small size.
They have a nice kitchen and a good free breakfast.
Wifi was slow but worked most of the time.
They do evening meals however I feel they were a bit expensive for a backpacker place.
The hostel has nice views over the lake but is slightly out of town, around a 10minute walk from town and the bus station.
Overall a nice hostel with good friendly staff.

The staff is congenial and knowledgeable, and the restaurant in the lobby is tasty and convenient. Kitchen feels small at times, but the other amenities are pleasant. The rooms are simple, clean and functional. But the big reason why I'd go back here is the staff. There all young and energetic! They will do anything for you to make your trip more enjoyable. It's located a short 10 min walk from downtown. The breakfast is great but you can use their kitchen if you want. There is a large upstairs and downstairs meeting area. I'd go back there in a heart beat.

Great place to stay

Staff couldn't have been more helpful and everyone was very friendly. Breakfast was excellent with wide choice.

kitchen gets a little busy in the evenings so you have to wait your turn.

Overall very good and would certainly recommend

Nice hotel

Awesome experience. The staff there were very helpful in arranging my transportation and the trip to National Park. It was Christmas eve and we celebrated together. They were pretty cool. Shared the food and drinks, watched fireworks, met other backpackers. I highly recommend this hostel.

Great affordable option in Calafate

Really great affordable option for Calafate. Less than 10-minute walk to the Main Street so location was just fine. Great common area for meeting people. Hip, energetic staff ready to help you with excursions and advice. Only tip - bring earplugs or do what I did and use a phone app that plays white noise. You can hear everything outside the room as walls and doors are thin, but I slept great with my white noise app. I also had a private room/bathroom.

Good place for the view, not for the internet.

The internet connection was really bad. While I was staying, quite a lot of people complained about it. I need to book other hotels and flights but couldnt do anything cuz of the internet. I had to use the pc at the hostel but it was very slow.

Breakfast was decent and basic.

Services were great, and it was convenient to book anything (tours) at the hostel. The staffs were knowledgeable and helpful.

The view in the common area is very good.

Distance b/w the hostel and the center isn't far at all, 10 mins walking including a little bit of hilly path.

Overall, you can stay here easily if you don't care about the internet.
