Stayed in one of the cabins, smelt very musty and seemed rundown. No shampoo in either of the despensers and I only found out whilst in the shower. Only a couple of channels worked on the t.v. For a £100 I would expect more!! I've stayed here quite a few times but this will be the last

Executive lodge = executive shed. Cheapest mattress money can buy. Generally worn out.
Very clever photography has been used to show the lodge.
The Gym is tiny with some old worn out equipment and a few weights. Enough for a quick workout but not enough for a serious workout

Room was smaller than expected, booked to accommodate us and two dogs, smelt damp and in aired. Advised breakfast only available between 7:30 and 8:30 on new years morning and health club facilities only available between 8 and 10. Rang day before to enquire about food on New Year’s Eve and told we could book at checking, at check in we were advised that restaurant was closed for a private party and only bar food available until 8:30. Food was OK but no better than average.

The fish and chips we ordered for two of our children was borderline/ off. We mentioned to the waiter. As a person that I had work in hospitality, we would have never charged the customer for it. I was not expecting full refund for their meals but at leats the part of that course. Also my girl order chicken and was burnt, I tried it myself and to be fair she was right that tasted to charcoal, I couldn't eat it myself. I forgot to mention about her, though. Also we would like to complaint that we booked thinking children we are allowed in the swimming pool, not the sauna or spa of course. The receptionist confirmed they were allowed but when we took them the staff in the swimming pool/spa said that children were not allowed. We when to double check but this time different receptionist and she just apologised. We did not feel very welcome or hear. A shame because room was very comfortable but after know this is not a family friendly hotel we won't come back.

The staff were lovely but oh dear the hotel is badly in need of an upgrade! The first room was some kind of wooden lodge. Quite large but absolutely freezing. Someone had left the window wide open in the bathroom and it was sub zero outside. The windows are all single glazing and one tiny heater for a huge room was completely inadequate. We were moved to a much smaller room but with a tiny bed. Very grubby and still freezing. We ate in the restaurant, but one of our meals included a large piece of still pink and sinew-riddled chicken that was virtually inedible. Was looking forward to our stay but spent most of it traipsing about moving bags, with room keys that didn't work and had to be replaced, food that was inedible and hardly any sleep!

Myself and my friend were intimidated by the man running the spa late at night. Tall, 50's with a strong accent. He followed us around the entire time and there was a confrontation. Night staff were wonderful and supportive as we were frightened after the encounter. Mckenzie however made excuses for the man claiming he had great reviews (as though that rectified our experience) and he \"guaranteed\" he was a nice guy. Again, very unhelpful of our experience.

Some understanding would have been nice. However, we will not be returning to a place where staff are intimidating and management justify the behaviours. Not ok

The room was dated and outdoor furniture covered in moss and unuseable. The outdoor light was on and not controllable so kept me awake at night. The only amenity in the room was hand soap, which ran out on the first night and was not replaced despite our requests. No room service in the lodges. We had to go to reception to refresh our towels and replenish the tea/milk facilities.

The tv is not smart and was last inspected 10 years ago, there were hanging wires and the general maintainance of the room was terrible. There were patches on the ceiling acting as repairs, i suppose. The bed was not a double, it was 2 singles oushed together - not a problem for us as we were friends enjoying a getaway but may present problems for couples.

Generally very disappointed considering the amount paid for the getaway. Would not recommend

The hotel and surroundings were fab! Wooden cabins scattered around a lake and spa. The inside jacuzzi very old and discoloured but the outside jacuzzis made up for that! The price of the drinks were extortionate! £15.50 for 2 pints of Mahou. That put us off spending any more money at the bar. The breakfast was poor £12.50 paid in advance or £15 in the morning. The fiood choices were sparse and most plates had 1 item left on there. It didnt seem to be topped up regularly enough. There is a choice of traditional, vegetarian breakfast
1 sausage, 1 egg etc. Not a large serving if you enjoy a large hot breakfast. And inly 1 toaster. They didnt serve hash browns as listed on the menu. I asked if they had forgotten them and they said they hadnt had the delivery. If thats the case, at least offer an extra item on the menu.
The only other negative is the use of the spa facilities. Be aware, unless you want to pay extra .... you can use the facilities 8pm to 9pm or 7am to 10am which is a big shame.

The room was clean, it was a really nice stay the breakfast was okay me and my partner preferred the continental rather than the hot food as eggs were quite rubbery. Had a lovely sleep the beds were really comfortable and there was lots of places to sit inside the hotel. The spa was okay the staff were lovely but the facilities weren’t the best it was quite a small spa and on an evening you could only go at 8-9pm and then 7-10am in the morning and if you wanted to go in all day or another time you would have to pay an added fee. But overall we really enjoyed our experience all of the staff were amazing!

The grounds were beautiful, our room was a family room and could have been beautiful however, it wasn’t very clean, very dusty, scratched up stained furniture, stains on the carpet and the bathroom was helped together with mastic. The bath panel was rotten. The beds were comfortable if small, there was lots of room and it was lovely to have our own patio. The facilities such as the pool etc were only available at inaccessible hours for children or we had to pay extra which was a huge disappointment. The staff were lovely and polite however the place was understaffed which was blamed on a wedding at the hotel. Long waits for food in the restaurant however we were given our evening meal for free which was very nice as our autistic child waiting for a long time for food drinks etc was a little distressing. The breakfast staff were lovely and friendly but the cooked breakfast was overcooked and definitely not worth what we paid. Overall it was a little disappointing for the money we paid I would have expected more. It wouldn’t take much to make this place shine. If you’re looking for beautiful surroundings, wildlife, nature and lovely staff (though not enough) you won’t be disappointed if you can get passed the badly repaired DIY jobs, scratched up furniture in the rooms, dust and cobwebs and dirty windows and lack of access to facilities for children.

Spa area was very dated,not kept clear by staff..paid 330 pounds for 2 nights but limited to 7-10am 8-9pm. Happy to charge paying guests excessive amount to access pool outside these times 15 pounds per person. Overhead beams in pool absolutely filthy, covered in dust. Leaves all around pool area. Robes discoloured, slippers not safe as slip all over due to wet area. Changing rooms size very small, to point had to wait until male changing area cleared before could use. Excessive greed re drinks, 2 glasses HOUSE wine £20, absolute greed. Cabin tiny, in need of refurb. TV doesnt even have additional channels. Mattress protector stained. Overall stay very disappointing to point chose to leave after first night. Wont be returning and will pass this experience on. As far as staff go, the first evening there was a very nice and helpful young girl on reception desk and girl at pool was very helpful when asking questions. Lovely service but hotel is rough around the edges

The room was fine, quite large but relatively empty of furniture so it felt a bit odd inside. The hotel itself is quite dated, quite desperately in need of a refurbish. The staff however were very kind, helpful, and friendly so can't fault that. I think if they spent some time refreshing this place and modernising it, it could be quite wonderful given the gorgeous location.

They have a bar with a sign that instructs you to go and find someone in the restaurant if you want a drink. Go to the restaurant and the staff have too much on their plates to worry about you. Food was patchy, breakfast is good value however if you get the right chef on the right day.

The place is well overdue for some investment. It looks tired and uncared for. The rooms are a disgrace, looks like they have not a proper clean in years. Dust everywhere, wallpaper hanging off, rusty fittings in bathroom, faulty window and door locks. The list goes on. Has all the quality of cheap 2 star accommodation.

The bar, restaurant and garden were all full of empty glasses, plates etc. Toilet in bedroom flush and bedside lamp did not work. Didn’t like fire alarm at 6.30 and then no apology or explanation. Bed was comfy. Breakfast was nice. Bathroom weirdly designed so that you couldn’t sit on the toilet easily because the basin was in the way. All in all a good experience for us.

We booked this for our 10th wedding anniversary expecting a nice, quiet retreat. Unfortunately, the cabins are not actually separate as expected. They are split into 2 with just a door separating them. This meant you could hear the guests next door talking, snoring,etc. Not the private getaway we were looking for and would unfortunately prevent us from booking again.
On the plus side, the property is set in a beautiful location and the staff were fantastic.

Place was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. The room clean and the bed was really comfortable. The too. was just too warm to sleep properly with no air conditioning and the radiator outside number 2 room was on constantly. Nice use of spa facilities for free.

I would stay again but maybe in a cooler month due to lack of air conditioning.

Was very grateful to all the receptionists that I spoke to, who gave really helpful service - I wanted to have a room not too far into the forest as I was on my own and also would be on foot but the road for the lodges is for car traffic. The surroundings were really incredible in the hot weather, cool, beautiful evenings, squirrels and birds. Places to sit and enjoy the outside. Food and drink smelt good although I didn't try them. Phone reception was a bit tricky but it would help with relaxation.

Chevin was a perfect choice for us as we were attending a wedding very close by.
We had a standard double Woodland Cabin which was much smaller than the photos on the website portray.
If I was to stay again, I would choose the Executive cabin.
The restaurant was lovely and the food good and reasonably priced, though we only ate there once.

Great place set in woodland, rooms very spacious and spotless. Only problem was that some of the soft closures on the doors need replacing which resulted in doors banging loudly. We reported this and they said they would get on to it straight away. Would definitely return.

Really liked the woodland lodge we stayed in, but could have been a lot better, no airer to dry our swimming costumes and towels, managed with coat hangers, just think an airer would be a great addition.
Beds were ok, deeper clean would have been appreciated as were lots of cobwebs with spiders in, in every room, Didn’t want to sit on the outside furniture because it was dirty and so many cobwebs, there wasn’t a sweeping brush or anything. I understand it’s a woodland but it could have been kept up to a lot better, just needed a good sweep and hose things down,The windows were doubled up and the middle was just covered in dust and webs felt like there was creepy crawlies everywhere. Kitchen was very good had everything we needed appliances were clean, bathroom the same accept cobwebs with spiders.
On a positive note we enjoyed our time there, the staff were really nice warm and welcoming. I would stay again but in the hotel next time as woodland creepy crawlies isn’t for me I have established.

Issues with hotel chain, the hotel is fine

After a prolonged exchange via Hotels.con messaging trying to reserve rooms near each other and a great deal of confusion caused by the fact that Chevin House is now owned by a hotel chain whose central team seemed incapable of communicating with hotel reservation staff, I contacted Chevin directly and was quickly helped. The stay itself was good. It is very convenient to Leeds Airport. The rooms are comfortable and have all the essentials, though not many outlets for plugs. Food was decent though the restaurant seemed understaffed. The staff were all cheerful and helpful.

We stayed for a wedding and our room smelt like rotten eggs/sewage (room 41). We did report to reception who were brilliant, lovely young ladies. When there manager came to see us he said there was an error in our booking and the room should not have been allocated to us as they were aware of the issue and try not to use this room! Offer plug in air fresheners and to spray the room.
They did offer a different room but this was quite a distance to walk to so we declined as we had already unpacked etc.
Also another member of the party tried to book a room and was told it was full, however we was offer a choice of rooms to move to which were as I say a distance for the main venue.

The location and views for the place was spectacular, we stayed in a cabin bedroom and found the bathroom very cold and the tv did not work. A little tired woild be how we would describe the room.
Alot of the paths were in desperate need of repair and dangerous in some areas. We arrived and there was a wedding going on and therefore could not park nor book a meal for the evening which was disappointing.
We used the spa facilities and were disappointed that there was so many people in the space,.perhaps limiting bookings would be wise.

We ate in the bar on the second night and i ordered the Mediterranean veg salad with chicken but there was no chicken on the salad. No staff were available to speak with or check if our food was ok.

I had a treatment on our final day and this was excellent, but felt sorry for how the staff were having to fend off so many people coming to the spa and presumably as part of a package were wanting to book treatments but there wasnt availability. The staff member was professional in her approach for the customers but had been put in a difficult.position through poor booking or greed. People were queueing to get in the changing rooms!

When we checked out, we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay

People are very nice and friendly, however we have heard a lot of people complaining about things not working at the spa or misunderstandings about food/drink orders, etc.
Spa was not tidy at all and not all the things were working.
We have chosen this place because of the spa however we did not get any info in advance that it is not fully working.
Definitely need to improve things there.
Bar is quiet, no music at all. Although they kept turning it on but after one song it would turn off again. Definitely need to fix this as it is too quiet and music does add a lot to the atmosphere.

When we arrived we were given room 12 but upon opening the door it was filled with builders rubbish. We then waited for a while and the manger came to see us saying he only had 1 other room but it has no hot water. He said we could use the spa for free and was very helpful and kind. He said he will re fund half our money back which I’m not sure how this happens as I still havent had this. If I get my money back I would definitely come again and we did have a really nice time

An excutive woodland lodge stay with dogs

Jan 2025 - Two night stay for a retired couple with two dogs. The accommodations looked like detached woodland lodge on the website but was actually split into three with very little sound proofing at all, We could hear the full conversations of our adjoining guests whilst inside our lodge. The accommodation was basic, dated and well worn. Doors were scratched by previous pets and the modular settee and chair were cheap and uncomfortable. The lodge consisted of one room with door to dated but clean bathroom and door to tiny room with single bed. Bedding very clean on small double bed. There was a small fridge sat on the floor without worktop or unit,no cutlery or tin opener etc to prepare tinned dog food, Dog bowls washed in small bathroom sink with handwash. The TV was dated and we had no digital channels / signal or internet on our first night . There was no connection to Wi-Fi or signal available from our lodge on our first night but we were able to connect on our 2nd night.
Spa and pool good and couldn’t fault the breakfast. Surroundings were quiet and ideal for dog walking. We were charged an extra £40 for two dogs for the two nights. The charge wasn’t mentioned until we’d actually booked our dog friendly accommodation.

We met up with our family on Sat night and were VERY disappointed that the site mgr told us the bar would be open until 11pm but closed it at 9.30pm and refused to servemore drinks. Other guests made same complaint. Other than him the staff were excellent.

Lovely woodland lodge, stayed in the same lodge twice now.
Absolutely beautiful.
Only thing missing was last year, there was a Christmas tree in the lodge but not this year, but only a minor detail.

1 night stay

Booked for latish airport arrival. Friendly welcome at reception and bar and good parking. Room was large and comfortable but mattresses were soft and had perhaps seen better days. Whole hotel was cosy and warm for a winter stay. Breakfast was excellent, good choices and friendly service again with an added view of the lake and surroundings. Would definitely stay again.

We paid quite a bit more for a lodge with a hot tub
The hot tub didn’t work and they said we could move to another room with a working hot tub but it was a three bedroom house which was old fashioned and cold, not the cosy lodge we had booked. So we stayed in the lodge and didn’t have the hot tub use.
Not great. There was no maintenance man to look at the hot tub so a young girl from the spa came and looked but couldn’t fix it.
Our tv wouldn’t work it kept failing because of the internet so it was no longer a working smart tv. The duty manager tried to fix it but couldn’t. It just wasn’t a great stay. We spent most of the evening speaking to staff and trying to resolve issues which were not revolved.

The good bits: lovely wooded site; whole place was like a giant log cabin!; friendly, welcoming and helpful staff; cosy room with everything needed for an overnight stay.
The not so good bits: dated bathroom; weird uneven floor in room; tired bed; noisy at certain times as close to exit door to the leisure and spa facilities - constant banging.
I didn’t eat at the hotel so can’t comment on food or restaurant service.

Expensive disappointment

After booking the room, we tried for 2 weeks to book a spa day for when we were there (approx 10 phone calls, 3 emails, a Facebook message and an instagram message) only to finally be told a few days before we arrived that they’ve sold out.

Booked a meal for 7:30 and although the restaurant was almost empty, we waited an hour for our food to arrive.

When it arrived, my medium rare steak was cold to the touch and dry/ chewy.
Wendy’s steak was chewy, just warm and had a second, thin slice of steak which had the consistency of shoe leather. We only ate the food because we were so hungry after a day of walking and there was no alternative option to eat.

2 steak meals and a bottle of wine for £70(ish) and I’ve had better food at Wetherspoons !

In our room, one lampshade was broken, the shower curtain didn’t fit the bath and both taps leaked. For just under £140 a night I expected more.

Very disappointed.
