Where do I start. Very basic and tired hotel. Completely unsecured, anyone can just walk in off the street and walk around the hotel. No one on reception in the evening, they are off site, you have to ring a mobile number for them to come to the hotel. Bathroom reeked of sewerage,

We arrived early. We were told we had to wait to go to our room for the check in time. We left and returned an hour earlier to be allowed in to check in early.

As you enter the hotel, you immediately notice hotel’s history and how it has been very very over time. Looking beyond the blemishes you can see some of the remnants of history. You can imagine the charm it once had.

To check in you enter the room you see in Expedia. It is unmanned and you must ring the bell.

We were not allowed to check in early but when a fellow patron from Afghanistan arrived we were then allowed to

We were told our room was on the second floor but was actually on the third. No elevator all stairs.

When we were expecting to find beds to sleep on in our hotel room and found futons on metal frames. The futons were very low (1.5 feet in height) to the ground , musty, difficult to get out of with arthritis and very firm. The room was lacking. In the “newly renovated room” we were provided with two futons on metal frames, one tall table between the beds, tv with cable, no trash (we had to ask for that), no storage space for jackets (closet), no dresser (cube shelves instead), coffee table (very random), and two luxury dining room chairs with out arms but no table. Adequate lighting. Great heat. The room was clean with the exception of the brown smear on the wall outside the bathroom. No water pressure for shower and tub was unusually high to get into.

Carpet awful, no kettle in room (4th fl), unsafe, no elevtaor.
Bed was clean, bathroom nice but then shower tap was broken and I couldn't get hot water (just warm).
Had to carry bags up 4 flights stairs. The carpet is just atrocious. No kettle tea/coffee in the room; they cost what £5? Only downstairs which is useless, and a mess there anyway. Won't stay again. Anyone can walk in so felt unsafe.

The Somerset hotel offers excellent value accommodation in London in an excellent, clean, spacious, and safe location! My family and I stayed here in mid-August and were delighted that the hotel was not only close to the Underground, groceries, shops, and amenities, but it was only a short walk to Regent's Park! Eyaz was beyond helpful and welcoming, and did everything possible to enhance our stay with his kindness, care, and professionalism. We will definitely stay here again!

Whilst accepting the Somerset is a budget hotel in the West End, there is no excuse for incomplete repairs in the room, a broken toilet seat, only one towel in the room when it was booked for double occupancy, only 1 spare pillow and a very uncomfortable bed. The out of hours keypad entry system is unreliable - it took nearly 10 minutes to get it to work. On the plus side, the shower was very good. In summary, a great location, but in shabby condition

We had a lovely family stay for 4 nights at the Somerset Hotel. Great hotel, extremely polite and friendly staff, great location to the whole city. Would stay again. Came with three young children and 2 adults made to feel welcome as soon as arrived, room was already ready so shown to it. Very spacious with three double beds and a bathroom that was private for you. Drinking facilities in the lounge. We where on the ground floor for a family room and very spacious especially as 5 of us. With a small table and chairs and floor space for the kids to play with their new toys. House keeping where so kind and friendly and nothing was a trouble. Would recommend to anyone wanting a great place at a great price. Photos are from when I has stripped the beds forgot to take some when we arrived.

It‘s a great location, close to green Regent‘s Park and next to Baker Street Underground.
The room is badly maintained. Double windows were out of order, main window couldn‘t be opened properly and the room wasn‘t clean.
Although the price was rather low for London, it‘s wasn‘t worth the price.

Check in was set for 3, but our room wasn’t ready until 3.30. The room is incredibly basic but that’s what you pay for! No safe in the room, which is a little unorthodox for central london! Our room had a broken window too (couldn’t lock or stay open). Overall, it’s a cheap hotel and I wouldn’t stay for more than one night, but it does the job.

Comfortable bed and spacious room

The bed was very comfortable and clean, the room super spacious, and the shower had excellent water pressure. Everything was very clean. Although the building itself is quite old and could really use some renovation, the location was perfect for my plans in London. There's an excellent bakery just a 2-minute walk from the hotel, Regent’s Park is only 10 minutes away, and Baker Street offers a variety of restaurants. The Sherlock Holmes Museum is also just around the corner, on the street behind the hotel. The only downside was that the price felt a bit high considering the condition of the building and I was a solo traveller.

We arrived early and the staff were very accommodating in leaving our luggage as we went out to check in later.
The front entrance steps had sections thst were tapped up but the entrance was nice.
Once we arrived to check in the service was great as thry put our luggage in the room, it was a large that you can used to be a office or dining room at one point but the hotel looked unfinished with works going on.
The bathroom was nice but small and the fan did not work so the room was eet after a shower and there was gaps underneath the shower but it was all manageable.
Our room aas a family roon which was nice and large which we liked but the room could benefits with black out curtains as it is on the ground floor so the street lights glared in and having to listen buses going regularly through out the night was a struggle with three childern but we managed.
The staff and service though were excellent and would go again but not with my family.

This is an old (by US standards) building with lots of intricate details, BUT, I think they are trying to remodel/restore it, and the walls still need paint, there is duct tape on the stairs carpet inside and outside the building and the room was small. We had to go to the dark, somewhat dinghy lobby for coffee and if you needed the front desk person, you had to ring a bell. We did feel safe in this busy neighborhood with all the tube stations, coffee shops and restaurants. A 45 minute walk got us to Trafalgar Square and a 20 minute walk got us to Regents Park. Emilia's restaurant was FANTASTIC! And just around the corner

The place is conveniently located near several underground stations in the very safe, clean neighborhood. The concierge was very helpful with directions to local restaurants, navigations, etc. the only issue our group had is the complete lack of ventilation in the bathroom which is a problem for 5 people sharing the same room

Lovely owner and clean sheets but those are the only positives. Broken tiles in the bathroom, no soap, no glasses or tea cups no wardrobe or place to hang clothes. Torn carpet on the stairs, no answer when the on call number was rung and one of the rooms wasn't ready over an hour after check-in. This shouldn't be a hotel. If the price was halved and the place advertised as a hostel it would likely get much better reviews, especially considering the excellent location.

My stay at Somerset Hotel was disappointing due to several maintenance issues. The property appears run-down and in need of renovation. The shower lacked hot water, making it uncomfortable to use, and the towels had an unpleasant odor. Additionally, the windows could not be opened, which affected ventilation and overall comfort. I hope management takes these concerns into account to improve the guest experience.

2 words: mite and bedbugs. The hotel and the room are old, beaten and filthy. All walls are cracked, the carpet is disgusting, staircases patched with duck tape and the furniture is all beaten. A homeless shelter would look more decent.

We woke up all bitten by bedbugs after coughing all night because of the mite. There are no noise cancelation windows and all the street noise flows to the room, as the sound of people walking on the room upstairs.

It was the first time in my life I had to leave a hotel earlier and look for another one … thats what we had to do.

Run away. This place should have bern shut down by the sanitary authorities.

Hotel level of cleanliness across the hotel was poor, my pillow had a blood stain on it and the room towels were dirty. One of the rooms had a tiny bath but no shower. The quality of furniture in room was very poor and sparse. The overall quality of the building was poor and looked to be under construction. I wouldn't recommend staying here. Price was around £150 per room/night, which doesn't seem to reflect the low quality of the hotel.

Family stay after Lords cricket

We stayed here with our two children as was heading to Lords for the cricket. Great location for that and a nice big room with two doubles but other than that this is a hotel we will not be returning too. Our room was really very tired, broken chair in room, carpets torn and held down with tape on stairs, one of the bed was so saggy it made us laugh, the bathroom was grim, toilet needed descaling, broken floor tiles, wood on edge of bath was damp and rotten, ceiling paint was peeling.
It could be a wonderful hotel given some love and the staff we met were lovely.

Terrible room, Avoid!

Room wasn't in the best condition when I arrived which was late due to work. Shower didn't work, TV didn't work, slight dribble of lukewarm water from the sink was the best you could get. Room was very dirty, big crack on the window. Definitely one of the worst hotels I've stayed in & I use quite a few in the area. Only reason I used this one was that the usual price was much cheaper; now I know why. Looks like I got the room these hotels use for the late check in singlesvstaying just the one night.

This hotel is at the low end of the pricing spectrum and the reviews are not good, so my expectations were low.
Sadly my stay did not even reach those low expectations.
The telly in the room was broken, the remote was broken and repeiared with gaffa tape, the bath was stained , there were splashes on the wall. The room needed renovation.
However the price was low .

The unique thing about this hotel is that the front brick work is bowed to the extent that the 3rd floor windows have at least 150 mm / 6 inch gap around them a risk of pedestrians getting killed seriously injured when this gives way ( I have pictures that will be going to council and heath and safety) our bedroom fire door did not fit in frame , the floor dipped by several inches and bounced as my grandson walked across it 1 socket in room all others blanked off ( this was on far side of room so my wife couldn’t use her sleep apnea machine ) the toilet set fell off the first time it was lifted , stained bath , tiles replaced with scrap of plasterboard after repair to toilet grouting totally removed above toilet , fan grinding and full of dust / fluff , top floor loft hatch open with telescopic ladder up to it ( fire hazard) . lock to room door no metal keep , and only just latched cover off fire alarm relay unit top floor. If you look at the lobby picture on here and imagine 25 yrs of doing nothing to it you might be close to actual conditions, we arrive back at 11.45 pm to 3 people on door step attempting to enter the key pad only showed random numbers took 20 mins to gain access, and forgot I opened the window a bit and it was so lose it almost fell out

Hotel was sufficient for sleeping and that’s about it. Place was old and rundown, definitely needed a good paint job. Check-in was not helpful - it was later in the night and person at desk didn’t explain anything, we were told to pay upon check out and given 1 towel when 2 guests were staying. The next morning payment was finally taken as we were unknowingly about to be locked out of our room. We came home late that following night and the front door was locked so we used the doorbell to get in - the person at the front desk scolded us for not using a code provided for the front door - however we were never told about said code or given information about it. Fine place to stay if it’s in budget but don’t expect a stellar hotel.

Loved staying here.

I don't understand the bad ratings. My room was clean, warm and exactly what I wanted. Right in the heart of everything, as a solo female traveller I never felt unsafe. Everything was always open around and everything was well lit. Was easy to get to two major train stations with my suitcase.

There are a lot of stairs and no lift, but the staff were super friendly and helped me with my suitcase to the top floor. They also helped me at 6am when I lost my key card. (thank you 🙏)

The building is old, so expect it to not be in tip top shape. But they are actively making repairs. Regardless it's still a nice place to stay. Would absolutely stay again. Exactly what I was looking for.

The property needs reburbishment. The communal areas especially the walls need repainting. I had an issue with being given the wrong key but this was sorted out by the very helpful man in reception. There was no soap, shampoo or gel for showering.
However the room was nice and the bed very comfortable and the wifi and television worked well.

Shabby, falling apart and minimal service

Room wasn’t ready when we arrived and had to wait for 10mins. Appearance of the hotel is very shabby and almost falling apart in places. Entrance lobby was full of building materials. Room had apparently just been cleaned but was dirt and dust everywhere. Very noisy as there was a large gap under the door to our room and this was positioned in the stairwell so we heard all noise from other guests. Also the room began to smell like sewage halfway through the night. I would have left for another hotel if possible!

If you can afford to stay elsewhere, do so. The bathroom was in an appalling state. Pubic hair everywhere, around the toilet seat, all over the floor, around the sink and in the bath. We complained about this and was assured that the cleaners would sort it whilst we were out for the day. On our return, absolutely nothing has been touched in the bathroom. Absolute filth.
The rest of the room was just about bearable. The towels and sheets did look clean but the smell in the corridors and in the room was rancid. The window wouldn't stay open and the bathroom didn't have any ventilation. The continental breakfast is packs of custard creams and bourbons and the state of the reception area, where you are supposed to eat the biscuits and make yourself a coffee (with a filthy mug) was also vile. Table, sofas and floors hadn't been cleaned in what looked like years. A good full body disinfecting session is required after staying here. Safe to say, I do not recommend and will certainly never be returning.

Won’t be booking again.

Won’t be going back there I’m afraid. My first night there and in the night, someone was able to come into my room! I was horrified that someone had access and let themselves in. Looks like it was a mistake and they went to the wrong room, but how can someone have the same key card! The hotel did apologise and changed my room, but was unacceptable. I also hardly saw any staff around, even when I checked out and rang the bell at the desk, no one came so I just left.

I booked a single room which I am not too fussed about. The room was very small and dingy. However again I didn’t really mind this. What infuriated me was it was damp and dirty. There was mould patches all over the room. The carpet was ragged and filthy. What made things worse was the mattress had springs coming out of it left right and center.

I checked out and left the hotel and asked for an immediate refund

Paid for 3 nights an stayed for 6 hours !
Left hotel after being thrown in to a stinking dirty room that smelt like urine !! No hot water , broken beds , ask for a change of room an told hotel was full , refused a refund for the two nights we didn’t stay there and had to pay for another hotel .
Customer service is non existent hotel is nothing like the photos it’s dark an dingy an used by women as the pimp house !!

If you are thinking about staying here, then I would suggest maybe keeping it to one night only. I stayed friday-sunday, so this probably didn't help with the noise as obviously people will be staying out later, but guests are banging the doors well into the early hours of the morning. The hotel is also quite old, which is fine, but the floorboards are so squeaky and loud. The guests above were walking around the room at 4am, and it was impossible to sleep through.

The double room is quite small, so do keep this in mind if you're somebody who likes a lot of space. The bathroom shower is small, and you can't adjust the height of the head, so the water just goes everywhere. I'm not somebody who would usually complain about a room, especially when it's a budget hotel, but there were so many little things that could quite easily be improved, and they just haven't been. The curtains blocked absolutely no light at all, so I wouldn't stay here during the months when it gets light early.

If you don't bring a hairdryer with you, then make sure you ask for one when you check in, as the room didn't have one in there already. It is also worth noting that there is no full length mirror. Obviously this isn't necessary, but it is always nice to know beforehand. It might be considerably better and quieter in the week, as I assume people wouldn't be staying out late. If you do plan to stay, I would request a room that wasn't facing the road, as you can hear the cars go past at night.

Do not stay in this hotel.

This is without doubt the worse hotel I’ve ever seen. Filthy dirty, dangerous electrics on show, mould in the bathroom and reeking of cigarette smoke. The curtain pole was not attached and came down on one of our parties head. Other than check-in, no sign of any staff.
It’s a shame I can only upload 8 pictures and there’s a lot more.

Worst stay of my life

It was one of the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. The room did not have heater, the shower was not hot, the floor looked like it could break anytime and the entire room smelled like paint. The chairs and bed was also dusty. I requested to change room and as I walked in to the room, someone was sleeping in the room. Way to pricey for such a terrible hotel. Will never ever come back here

I thought my room was acceptable although worth no more than £60 per night so overpriced for me . The location of the hotel was good with excellent close by travel connections to all of London . I only had one interaction with a staff member on arrival at the Hotel and did not see anyone else for the full three nights on staying here and very odd as well no fellow guests were seen around the building in that time . The Hotel is very much a work in progress with renovation taking place .

Avoid at all cost

The place is in a state of dispair! Started with no reply when arriving, having to phone. Boxes piled next entry staircase. Peeling wallpaper, holes in walls, water leaks, no curtains to windows. Fire break glass peeling from wall and secured with tape. Ironing clutter on stairs, dirty bathroom, guests screaming and slamming doors. Remote control batteries secured with tape. Worse place ever! Tried to contact hotels.com via chat, but no advisor available sat night

Staff was polite and helpful.
Bed linen and towel were fresh and clean.
Hotel needs a lot of TLC and good dusting.
Very thin walls and creaking floors - whomever was walking in the above room at 4am, it felt like same room. View from room's window of inside roof area is unappealing, could do with some tidying up and couple vasons of plants. Good effort for thinking about enviroment, however, please wash dirty linen bag in a bathroom bin. ☀️Little things matter. ☀️
However, for the same rate, location and being unallergic to dust, I would stay again.

In Great Need of Much Love and Attention

I came to the city as I had a medical appointment in Marylebone that required me to stay the night but London had, two days previous, been entered into Tier Four COVID restrictions. For that reason I don't wish to judge this hotel too harshly as I do not know the economic impact the virus has had on business nor the effect on staffing etc. Saying that, this hotel was in quite a state of disrepair. We arrived to a dark lobby full of boxes and but one staff member manning reception. The walls were full of holes and/or half-painted as if in the middle of a refurbishment and all looked rather tatty. The room was very small which, didn't bother me and overlooked a noisy street but this is London and I very much didn't mind that either. However, the room wasn't very clean at all and like the rest of the hotel was in dire need of a great deal of TLC. I would be very interested to see this hotel again in the future as, if it is indeed being refurbished and feeling the effects of the virus, it has a great deal of potential to have then become something nice. It benefits from a lovely, central location and is in a nice area with many amenities nearby.

Our trip was affected by covid. We cancelled via Expedia at least a month in advance of when we were due to stay. Somerset Hotel did not answer Expedia regarding our cancellation before we were due to stay. Our booking was a non-refundable one BUT all of the other hotels came across with vouchers that we can use when we do make it to England for our holiday. I know that this hotel was not obliged to issue a voucher for future use but there is such a thing as “goodwill” due to COVID- 19. Even a reply to our email would have been appreciated. So you have our money but you no longer have our custom or recommendation and we will stay somewhere else when plan our trip to England.

Dirty and run down

Awful hotel-very run down. Peeling wallpaper, threadbare carpets, no facilities for making coffee but to be honest, I’d never have made one anyway the state of the room. No soap provided, toilet stained, tap broken. Didn’t even try to use the shower. Curtain hanging on a bit of wire. I wish I had checked the reviews before I booked. The good thing is it’s in a good location and was relatively cheap but I’ll never be back-terrible experience.

Vold showers only ouch!!!!

No hot water in room , Building work going on leaks everywhere wet towels mopping up leaks in hallways, The only good thing was lost card ro get in room and was replaced easily.
Would never stay again terrible conditions some old Buildings are just not git for this type use shold be gutted and put to another use, also carpet ripped on hallway and no signs up to warn people!!!

Unfortunate experience

The receptionist was pleasant and apologetic about the climb to my room. No need, I was prepared for thr 5 flights of stairs. Unfortunately he was over optimistic in his opinion that I would like the hotel! The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. However the room was so cold I had to sleep in my clothes and I don't particularly feel the cold normally. I have never had to do that in a hotel before. There were no toiletries at all in the room, not even soap. I had some with me so was not going to tackle the stairs again to complain. Housekeepiing had not been completed, as I saw something left in the bottom of the wardrobe. In the morning I found it was a soiled pair of mens pants. My stay may well not have been typical of the standards in the hotel but I will not be returning to check that out!

We found old pistachio nuts behind our bed and heard mice hiding in the wall that we saw come out during nights to eat the nuts. We stayed 3 nights. No cleaning. One toilet paper roll to use for 3 days two people. WiFi is 10 pounds, not free. They never answer the phone. No phone in room. TV in the room is as small as an iPad, hanging on the wall. Never staff in reception. No phone in the room. 4 floors hotel with no elevator. We stayed at floor 4 and dragging the bags up the high stairs to our floor was horrible and we could hardly breath once in our room. Full carpet floors that are heavily dirty. During our three days no one vacuumed our room and it was clear that vacuuming has not been done in the room for weeks. Toilet had orange sticky fluids around the rim and the entire hotel including the room smells heavily dirty like it has not been cleaned for a very long time. No soap. No water boiler. No amenities. Both our bodies were itching after each night. Dirty beds. Dirty mattress and dirty bed sheets. WARNING do not book with this room, it’s a horrifying experience.

Absolutely shocking hotel

This hotel is nothing like it is in the pictures at all. I would highly recommend that anyone and everyone stay away from this hotel or as I’d like to call it a hostel and that’s being very kind. There are rats, mild and everything else you can imagine in this place. Didn’t even stay there 10 minutes and found a place close by to spend our 4 nights in London instead. Could easily have turned a great long weekend into a horrible time but we didn’t let it get to us.
