This place is amazing! The staff, the facilities and food are top notch! I will warn you, if you have tattoos, you cannot use the public onsen bath. Such a relaxing place and will visit again!

Buffet variety for dinner and breakfast was great. Live sushi and tempura made in front of you. Huge selection! You also rent by the hour a private onsen which we did. Public onsen was okay. Had steam room and sauna and cold plunge area. Enough lockers and showe stalls. Extra towels and water stations were there. Rooms were big and separate rooms if you have 4 people. Mix of western bed and futons on the floor.

Very nice breakfast buffet, lot of choices. Room is clean, size is okay for 4 people to stay. The downsize is the location, which is a bit far from the station. Just keep in mind that you have to pay 150 yens per person per stay at check out for the onsen charges even if you did not use it.

Nice hillside area for a stroll right on the grounds. The onsen was really nice and well equipped. Food (half board) was also great. Only real downside was that the spectacular view from the lobby was obscured by scaffolding and shrouding for some maintenance project.

This place is one of my favorite stays so I'm a repeat customer. Their breakfasts and dinners are rich in variety and delicious, the beds are comfy, the public baths are huge with a beautiful view, and my favorite are the ducks and fish you can feed outside.

The service is also great. Everyone is professional and helpful.

To give a full star review, I'd like slippers to wear instead of being barefoot when indoors. I also would like to see vending machines on floors because you can only buy water at their gift shop on the first floor.

I'll definitely stay again!

Very beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable. Rooms are fine, garden is SUPERB.
When it comes to food, plenty of it, but the quality is so so. It is fresh and clean, but using cheap ingredients, in most cases. But overall, it is acceptable and the hotel gives a great run for your money.

Relaxing, beautiful getaway

Our stay at Tenseien in Hakone was delightful! The grounds are pretty and well maintained, the onsen was perfect, and the buffet had many options. Access to the lakes, ropeway, and Fuji views was convenient, short 10 minute walk to local rail stop. The trees here in autumn are breathtaking!

Very nice hotel in Yumoto area

A little bit too far from the train station (15 minutes of walking) but overall this is a good relaxing hotel. Very clean since all guests must take their shoes off before entering the hotel. Nice Onsen and friendly hotel staffs.

Quiet environment, nice and comfortable. Buffet breakfast and dinner ( included in the booking price) full of varieties. Staffs are helpful and speak reasonably good English. Hot bath, we used the public one is clean and nice and service is 23 hours a day, except 9 am to 10 am for cleaning. As indicated by previous clients, a bit (15 minutes walk ) uphill to hotel from Hakone - yumoto train station . You can either take the local bus (100 yens)( better if your luggage nit too big ) or a taxi . From hotel to train station is downhill. Ask the info at the train station if you wants to walk. Overall, nice hotel.

Room was extremely small compared to the Hakone Pax Yoshino hotel where we were just staying the night before, even though Pax Yoshino was cheaper.

Hotel was too big and appears to be catered more for group tours and local Onsen-goers that are not staying overnight, resulting in a lower standard of service level.

Another great attraction in Hakone

Our stay at Tenseien was great. Both my girlfriend and I was amazed by the cleanness of this hotel. All guests were required to take their shoes off as soon as after entering the gate. We stayed there for 2 nights, we walked on our bare foot to breakfast, dinner, the hotel shop and Onsen. Not a single second we felt any discomfort. We were absolutely stunned by the quality of this hotel for its cleanness, services, Onsen and food provided.

The Onsen was great. There were indoor and outdoor Onsen, it had good view and very delicate design that cannot be described in words, only awaiting for your own exploration.

I would say staying in Tenseien is one of the best reasons to visit Hakone!

Good hotel for Hakone spa experience

I visited here with a friend as a stopover for travel from Tokyo to Kyoto. Hakone was a lovely little town, the hotel an impressive building 10mins walk from the train station. The room was basic but very clean, the shrine and garden behind the hotel a very nice experience. The highlight was the rooftop hot baths, beautiful view and relaxing, worth the whole trip. It was men only with women on a separate floor, so if I revisited with my wife I'd think twice about choosing here, as for the me the rooftop baths were the best part and I couldn't share that with her. Also take note, tattoos not allowed in spa or hotel! Buffet dinner was expensive and average.

Nice hotel. You can get there by a 100 yen shuttle from the train station, staff were very nice and helpful and the onsen was awesome! Just be aware that they are nudists. Great massages!! Nice hotel to relax and enjoy nature.

The Tenseien Onsen was great. My fiancée and I came for a relaxing experience and this place delivered. Beautiful, well maintained facility. Not so many people at the Onsen (at least when we went) for it to ever be uncomfortable. Tasty buffet style meals served (though dinner is quite expensive... There is a fantastic variety of food).

Not too far out of the way of the main bullet train line, but you'll need a 10-15 minute walk to and from the station.

Beautiful, but traditional, onsen

While we enjoyed our recent stay here, there were a few things we wished were clearer when we made our booking. First, the onsen on the 6th and 7th floors were beautiful, but they were gender segregated (females on 6, males on 7) and nude-only. Also there were signs everywhere saying no tattoos allowed - we found this surprising because Japanese friends told us that this taboo really no longer mattered at Japanese hotels. Private onsen rentals were available for about $20 US for an hour, and this was a great experience (albeit in a small round tub). The hotel itself is pretty, with beautiful wooden floors and nice amenities. The staff we engaged with spoke passable English, but were also sometimes confused by basic questions. The location is less than ideal - while very pretty with a magnificent garden-area, it was a 10-15 minute walk on narrow streets with no sidewalks to get down to the main train station. The 100 Yen shuttle service was kind of a joke, as it stops at so many hotels that it is almost quicker to walk. One big benefit to the hotel is that it has a nice small convenience store and gift shop with reasonable prices given the location. Final note - you will be forced to remove your shoes when you arrive, and thus spend your entire time in the hotel thinking you left your shoes somewhere! It was nice to walk around in socks or slippers, but somewhat inconvenient too as the sandals provided to walk outside were much too small for our American-sized feet. :)

Everything was well thought of in this hotel. From the check in to hotel amenities. The lobby was beautiful and everywhere was clean. The breakfast had a wide variety of selection from western to Japanese. We have been to numerous hot spring hotels in Japan and Tensenshein was one of the best. Location was accessible by 100 yen shuttle bus from Hakone Yumoto station. The ride from Shinjuku to Hakone seemed like less than an hour even though it was actually 85 minutes on the odakyu Express Romance train.

Nice garden in the hotel and has a 24hr Minimart which is very convenient for buying water as it's not provided in-room. (generally in Japan!)
Had both lunch and dinner in hotel and the food was above average and reasonable pricing.
We booked a private Onsen and it was very enjoyable and relaxing!

Fantastic hotel. Real feel of Japan! Just as you get there you get a kimono, in which you can spend your whole stay if you wish. The onsen (spring water baths) was great, quite an experience! Hotel is spotless and service is excellent. Restaurant food amd breakfast very nice too. You have everything you need in the hotel (convenience store, etc) and there's a great relaxing atmosphere. So glad we picked it! Would totally recommend.

Overall excellent hotel - expensive but worth it.

Spotlessly clean, had to take shoes off to enter and clean polished wood flooring throughout.

Great experience, kimono's provided, outdoor roof top hot baths are fantastic. Separate male and female and nude!

Good base to explore with Hakone Free pass.

We were there in Oct at the weekend and it was full, we were the only non Japanese guests. Which was fine. It felt like you were sampling a bit of Japanese leisure culture.

location is a bit of a walk from the train station until you become familiar with the layout. rooms are basic. was told there would be complimentary wifi, which was news to the staff, but they quickly offered it up to compensate. excellent relaxing onsen. would certainly return here.

A piece of paradise in the mountains

I decided to escape the craziness of Tokyo for a night and stay in Hakone. Walking into the hotel was a touch of luxury. Everyone walking around in their kimono robes, glass windows over looking waterfalls and ponds, and the buffet dinner was delicious. Rooms are typically Japanese, not huge but very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly, and the massage service was definitely worth the bit extra.

My only negative was that I had a twin room for AU$200/night and the cost for a friend to join me and share the room was going to be AU$150/night which seemed like a lot of money.

Overall though I highly recommend this hotel.

食べ放題付きプランは2度目でしたが、2回とも満足です！！

●ホテル敷地内の立派な庭園に心和やかになりました。また滝（夜はイルミネーション）がありカニがいたり楽しい体験でした。
●ビュッフェは選びきれない品数でどれも皆美味しかったです。
●出歩く際のポシェットやお風呂バックは大変便利だった。

とても良い温泉でした。
大浴場、貸切風呂ともに良く、温度も比較的ぬるめで入りやすかったです。
館内はかなりきれいで、裸足で歩いて移動できますが、館内移動用に足袋が部屋に用意されておりました。
ゆっくり温泉に浸かり、1晩を過ごすことが出来ました。

お部屋も綺麗で、ご飯も美味しくて大変満足しました。
特にライブキッチンのものが出来たてで美味しかったです。

夕食直前の突然の停電でしたが、スタッフのかたがきちんと説明して下さり、またお土産まで頂いてありがとうございました。
ただ、突然の事だったのでスタッフの方も動揺されたのだと思いますが、館内放送で後ろの方でバタバタしてるスタッフの声が、わりと聞こえて来て、少し不安を感じました。
また、部屋待機だったのですが、電気がついてから部屋に常夜灯の懐中電灯がおいてあることに気が付きました。館内放送で一言教えて欲しかったです。真っ暗な中スマホの光で過ごしていました。

露天風呂で滝がライトアップされていて、綺麗だったのですが、朝再度入浴した時に気づきましたが、「浴槽の淵に座ると外からみえる」と記入されてることに気がつきました。夜にはその文字は暗くて見えません。ずっと淵に座ってました😅

総合的にはとても良かったので、また利用したいと思います。

ホテル内に滝がありますが、これがとても良い滝でこれだけでも一見の価値があります。
また、庭もよく整備されており、綺麗な水の上を鯉とアヒルが泳いでおり、ともて癒やされます。
温泉　
綺麗で、且つ垢こすり等のアメニティもしっかりしています。

エレベーターが遅いです。２つあるのですが、２つとも同じ動きをしていることがあり、
もう少しプログラミングしても良いかと思います。
また、チェックインに並ばなければならなかったので、もう少し要領よくお願いできればと思います。
