This is gorgeous hotel. The staff are so kind, courteous and attentive. My room was spacious, with comfortable bed, stunning mountain views, and of course the Japanese heated toilet seat which is a luxury! The food was delicious. I ate both breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant and every little dish was so fresh, interesting and served like beautiful art. The onsen baths are wonderful and relaxing and I enjoyed the sauna as well. Short 10 min walk to the little town center and train station. I liked being away from the shopping street. I felt so taken care of and would definitely stay here again.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Stay away — serious hygiene issue

I stayed at Aura Tachibana recently and ended up with dozens of bed bug bites all over my arms and legs. The room looked fine at first, but by the next morning I was covered in itchy red marks. I had to move to another hotel and buy medication to treat the bites.
I’ve reported this to management and hope they take immediate action to address it, but until there’s confirmation that the rooms have been properly treated, I strongly recommend avoiding this place. It was an awful experience and ruined part of my trip.

We stayed for one night at Aura Tachibana, and our arrival from Osaka was unfortunately delayed by 3 hours due to a tsunami but we informed the hotel ahead of time and they were very accommodating.

The kaiseki dinner was amazing, so much food and beautifully presented. It was served in the restaurant (not in the rooms) with a lovely view of the mountains.

Don't be fooled by other good reviews, the hotel is very dated and service was sub-par.

We stayed for two nights in a luxury tower deluxe twin room with an open air bath (private onsen).

For the price of this hotel, we expected alot more than we recieved.

Our room was nice enough, however was musty, the shower head was broken and everything looked as though it needed to be renovated.

The staff were unable to accommodate our meal change requests as my partner is pregnant, this was very disappointing.
Even after having requested not having raw fish for my partner, it still came out with dinner and breakfast the next day.

On the food, everything was presented nicely however presentation cannot suffice for bland food. We thought the dining experience would have been much more enjoyable.

The staff didn't speak very good English, yes, I know we are in Japan and don't mean to sound like a Karen, but for the price of the hotel, a few staff members who speak sufficient English would be beneficial and would offer a better service to their guests.

This hotel was almost too conformative and staff didn't not seem willing to accommodate our requests.

We would not recommend this hotel, spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

However to end on a positive note, the hotel is located only a 10-15 minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto station, so good location. Definitely book a taxi or shuttle bus to the accomodation if you have heavy luggage as there is a steep hike involved.

This hotel booking included half board. We requested our special needs and we were extremely happy with the meal preparation and presentation. The public bath/onsen was good and so was the private onsen in the room.
The transportation was timely and staff even helped us to load and unload our luggage. Overall very happy with stay and will recommend this hotel to the guests who want to experience upscale japanese hotel experience.

The open-air bath on the balcony was great. The meals were okay but not as good as we have had at upscale onsen hotels. The shuttle bus service was good, although the bus was not equipped to handle large baggage that foreign tourists usually have. There is not much to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel so you need to have the shuttle take you to the area around the train station.

Aura Tachibana is a Japanese style Onsen accommodation with large Japanese style rooms facing the mountains. We were checked in by a gentleman called Bappa Mondal from our hometown in India (Kolkata) and he was incredible. He explained all the options, did his best to accommodate the dietary restrictions for my wife and gave valuable advice on local transportations. The room was large, quiet and elegant.

Amazing hotel combined traditional with modernness. We had a large tatami room with regular beds and a Japanese futon bed. It was large and comfortable. Breakfast was Japanese style which we loved. Our daughter however, can not get past eating rice and fish for breakfast.
The hotel is not conveniently located, not easily walkable from the train train station. The hotel offers a shuttle bus that takes you to and from train station but stops at 5 pm.
You will have to take a taxi, if you return late from Hakone, which costs 600 yen. Otherwise, we loved the stay.

The staff are super friendly and there’s a shuttle that can transport you to the nearby Hakone Yumoto station. (Set schedule though).

That’s where the positives end however as we did not find the private onsen all that great and the room itself, although large for Japanese standards, is dark and outdated. The rest of the hotel (aside from the hotel lobby) is outdated.

Unfortunately the worst part of the entire experience was bed bugs.

Wish we had a better experience.

Property does not has policy for extra guess. We had unexpected guess to come. We willing to pay for the extra but they said the person handled had gone for the day. No one can speak English after 7pm.
We saw cockroaches on serving cart after we ate & on the way out. Bugs also in the room & crawl on my daughter arms. We never saw any workers doing any cleaning when we’re there. I don’t think they even vacuum the room after guess leave. The food were good for photos but not freshly prepared. All food were cold & fermented. The only thing hot were miso soup. We’ll come back to the area but not to this hotel.

Amazing place, private tub was lovely, a little bit of a trek if you don't make the shuttle, but the vantage point is very nice I believe it is highest point in Hakone. The food was a great experience as well.
The Bad:
The bed creaked so much and matress was not good for me at all.

The other thing is the transportation to the hotel could be communicated better as Google is not doing a good job is this case.

This property could be polarizing for people. On the good side, the room was very nice, traditional Japanese-style with great in-room bath and excellent view of the mountains. The shared baths were also nice. The meals included were very comprehensive in traditional Japanese style with excellent service. Rooftop had great views.

Others may find the property a bit dated. The carpet in the lobby is worn and the place feels a bit old. This is not a modern resort. The picture on Expedia probably overstates the elegance. Also, the location is a bit far and uphill from the Hakone train station. Hotel shuttles to the train stop at 11am and it was impossible for us to get a cab back to the station after a later check out. We had to walk 15 mins in the rain to get there.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but this might not be for everyone.

While the hotel was not too far from the train station, shuttle service was limited and walking to the hotel property was inconvenient especially if you had luggage due to having to navigate up the hillside.

Near to bus stop if you take the \"K\" bus from Hakone or Motohakone. Remember to call the hotel once you reach the station so that they can send their shuttle bus to pick you up. Breakfast and dinner were great and my son and I really appreciate the waitress who explained to us on the dishes that were laid out in front of us. Japanese hospitality :-). The onsen in the room is fantastic and they even teach you how to put on the Yukata.

A comfortable hotel

We have stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. The staff was helpful and nice. They spoke good English for city guide. The room was perfect with a view of mountain and a private hot spring. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. You need to walk 20 mins from the train station. Or you can go to the tourist centre and asked the staff to call the reception for the arrangement of a shuttle bus from 2-6pm.

Due to the typhoon just hinted the area, many attractions were closed and transportation to other were limited. Since we booked for two nights, we have plenty of time to enjoy the facility with in room onsen and their delicious meals. The facility is a little out dated but the service were personal. The location is up and away from city center, but the hotel shuttle bus service are convenient. They are just a phone call away and pick us up within mins from down town. We enjoy our staying! Special tanks to the waitress who served us!

We stayed here in 2015 and returned in 2019 and though much was as we remembered it, the age of the facilities are starting to show. The lobby and the onsen area needs updating. Also, we were discouraged to see the level of restaurant service diminish (thankfully not too much). Paper cups for coffee? Self-service? Hardly what we expect from our prior stay. But perhaps most confusing/frustrating of all is that the hotel's one bar closes during dinner service which means you cannot order aperitif before dinner unless you plan well ahead. We had a 7:30 seating and met friends in the lounge at 6:45 for drinks, only to learn that the bar is closed. WHAT? This is absurd.

The front desk staff remains as friendly and helpful as ever, but I can't say I would stay here again. Not unless the building gets refreshed.

My wife and I stayed in a twin room with private onsen. Room was plenty big, the private onsen was the highlight, and the dinner/bfast were delicious. Customer service was warm and attentive throughout and the view from our room was great. We’re already planning our return. Yes, the beds will feel a bit stiff if you’re used to soft, American hotel mattresses, but you’ll be fine.

Wonderful Hotel: Great Views, Service and Value!

All our expectations on were exceeded. They treated my wife and I like royalty.
The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

During check-in, we were greeted with with fresh matcha!

Kazuya surprised us with a corner suite on the top floor, let us use the rooftop bath, and a beautiful card on our table!
The room was spotless, with stunning views of Hakone and surrounding mountains. The beds were a little firm for my liking, but everything else was perfect! The comforters were fluffy, yet breathable and the pillows were cloud-like. Be sure to try the chestnut snacks and tea in the room.
They also include Yukata (traditional robes worn in ryokans) and toe socks to wear during your stay.

Super glad we got a room with private bath. I definitely recommend it!
The experience of soaking in the tub with the gorgeous scenery, and lovely company almost brought tears to my eyes. It was wonderful! Truly relaxation for the body and mind.

The traditional Kaiseki dinner was one of the highlights for me. The presentation and attention to detail was astounding; not to mention delicious! The menu did include some adventurous things; some were good, others were good to say I’ve tried. All things considered, it was one of the finest meal I’ve ever eaten.
The Japanese breakfast was also a unique culinary experience, and also quite tasty (if you enjoy Japanese cuisine). The nine seasonal dishes and pickled veggies were exceptional.

A perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle.

Great hotel, the private onsen was fantastic! It was exactly what we needed. We didn't try the public onsen so I can't comment. The food was fantastic, we weren't expecting a 10 course Japanese evening meal, so that was a pleasant surprise. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience a ryokan. It was about a 15 minute walk to Hakone, but beware of the very steep hill from the town to the hotel. The hotel offers a shuttle service, we chose not to use it as the walk to the town is very pretty. Great links from Tokyo/Kawasaki. We'll definitely be back, we already miss the onsen!
The room was great; very spacious and clean. Super fast WIFI too, which is always a bonus.
The only downside is that we only stayed two days, we could easily have spend 2 weeks there!

We drove to the hotel and upon arrival, 2 staffs came to greet us at the parking space to guide and welcome us. It was a warm welcome.

We booked a room with outdoor onsen overlooking the mountain. It’s was very relaxing and room size was great for 3 ppl.

It was my mum’s birthday and the hotel was very thoughtful to give us free use of outdoor onsen on the roof top of the hotel. The view was amazing.

Beautiful hotel! I spent a while researching which hotel to pick from in the Hakone area and I'm glad that I did. This hotel is amazing. The staff is wonderful and are able to communicate in English. The hotel allowed us to drop our luggage off the day before we were to stay there, which was helpful. The breakfast and dinner were absolutely exquisite! The views were great from the room. The outdoor hot tub was so relaxing and so were the public onsen downstairs. It is a bit on the pricier side, but it is well worth it! I would stay here again!

What an incredible experience! We (very smartly) booked our stay here after our overnight climb of Mount Fuji, and this was EXACTLY the perfect kind of pampered relaxation we needed! Aura Tachibana is a gen of a ryokan in Hakone. It is 5 min away from Hakone-Yumoto Station and you can even go to the Tourism Office to call them for Shuttie Service. The hotel is very clean with most rooms having a private Onsen for guest to use. There are also the public Onsen on the 4th floor and a private penthouse Onsens that you can rent for approx US$30 for 45 min. The food is amazing!! Set menu for every day of stay (breakfast and dinners) and special requests are handled on check-in for guests that have allergies or special requirements. Most of the items on menu are seafood so keep this in consideration before booking.
The rooms are roomy and clean and yukatas (robes) and slippers are provided for use while staying in the hotel. Staff is amazingly friendly and speak English for visitors. Highly recommended when in Hakone.

The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke good English. The hotel is located close to Hakone Yumoto station - so great for access to the entire Hakone area. The onsen / bath is great; the food was very good. The room could be updated and the pillow is extremely uncomfortable for Western travelers (it is rock hard). The wifi took some time to work but once working it was very good. Overall a nice hotel but too expensive for what it offered in terms of the room quality.

The hotel staff is extremely pleasant and speaks decent English. We stayed in a traditional room and while pleasant, it was very dated and really not adequate for a hotel in this price bracket. The public bath (onsen) is rather small and one needs to be naked there (might be an issue for some).

The dinner was pleasant, but not really exceptional (the steak came very well done, and the server 'forgot' to order a main for my wife). The server really rushed us through - as soon as we put down chopaticks, new plates were brought, sometime without clearing the old ones (all in all, 9 courses were served in less than 90 min; and we took the longest time from all in the room). Breakfast featured only Japanese options, so if you're a yoghurt & cereals person, be ready.

We were visiting around Mrs' birthday and hotel provided us with a complimentary use of private onsen - this was very nice, with excellent views, and well worth the normal fee.

Last gripe - strangely, only one towel per person was provided. Normally, one gets at least two towels in the bathroom plus an extra one for the spa, but not here. Maybe it's normal, but we found it slightly weird.

Peaceful location to experience local customs

I had originally worried that two nights here might be a little dull after spending 5 days buzzing around Tokyo but it turned out this place was exactly what we needed. We had a western/Japanese family room with a private onsen on the balcony that had a nice view of the hills behind the hotel. It was so peaceful and quiet. Before we arrived we had little idea of what to expect beyond tatami mats and a multi course dinner of traditional dishes. It is fair to say that some of the décor is due to be updated, but looking beyond that we were delighted with the whole experience. The meals were exceptional. Each course so intricate and beautifully presented. Our attendant (I cannot call her waitress as she was so much more) was Juri. She carefully set all the different courses (including hot pots) and then explained each of them to us and how to eat them. I tried so many new things purely because she had set the stage so well. It was a treat to see our family all dressed in the yukatas they provided for the experience. The staff were all friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to source and pre-book a cab for us as we were due to check out early and needed transport to the station. We also used their complimentary shuttle to go into Hakone for the day. Strolling around Hakone was also relaxing. Lots to look at and plenty of places to eat. So nice to return to the room and a turn in the onsen before another amazing dinner. Great experience.

The only reason this is getting a four is because of the location to tourist activities in Hakone near the lake. It is also an uphill walk from the train station so definitely try to order the shuttle when you arrive at the train station.

Beautiful hotel and experience

The hotel is very close by to the Hakone-Yumoto station. You can take a shuttle bus (only 100 yen) if you arrive at the station sooner than the hotel check in time of 2PM. Otherwise the hotel shuttle will do a complimentary pick up at the station from 2PM onward. We arrived to the hotel a bit early but one of the front desk staff trainees (who had been our point of contact throughout our entire stay) was so friendly and accommodating. He helped us plan our day trip around Hakone as our room was not yet ready. When we arrived back to the hotel after a few hours of sightseeing, he greeted us in the lobby and showed us our room. I splurged a little bit for the private onsen and I defintely think it was worth it. We had a beautiful corner room on the 9th floor with spectacular views. You also get dinner and breakfast included, which was such a wonderful experience. They provide yukatas that you may wear in the room and to dinner/breakfast, which was fun to do. You get a ten course meal for dinner which was very filling— we were ready to tap out after our 5th course. The waitress was also very friendly and did her best to explain everything to us in English. Breakfast was also spectacular and delicious. Overall I had an amazing experience and am so happy to have stayed at Aura Tachibana — I highly recommend it.

Great staff/service but the hotel can use an update. Bathroom is very small and shower/toilet rooms very outdated/small. Great communal bath and onsen. Pick up from/to train station was very convenient.LOVED the Ropeway - Mist do!

Hotel is operated by inexperienced children

The hotel is nice, food is great but the staff is extremely inexperienced. You pay a premium price for the quality of service at the level of a cheap bnb. The staff doesn't speak proper English either.

Also caution, unlike other hotels the prices are per person, not per room. We booked a room for $500 and the room could accommodate up to 6. We planned on staying 4 people there. We paid $550 for the room. Upon arrival they made us pay another $550 for the stay, staying in the same room. $1100 per room per night. They are far from that level of quality and service to deserve that price. And we are not the only one, when we arrived there was another person complaining about the same thing. They decided to leave and get a refund, I wish we did the same.

Amazing Experience

My SO and I decided to splurge on our trip to Japan and found Aura Tachibana to be within our budget and also had openings at the time of booking. It has a much more modern feel as opposed to the traditional ryokans, but I appreciated it more as I knew I would have difficulties with Japanese and they explain that they have English and Chinese speaking staff working.

We loved Devinita, she was our server for dinner and breakfast. She was sweet, attentive and really nice, we almost booked another night after our stay just to continue our conversations with her. The meals were very intricate and paced well.

The room was nice - and the private onsen was an amazing experience. I think I hopped into the onsen atleast 5 times within our stay. The water was crystal clear, the view from the room was amazing, and the onsen was very large and could fit two people easily.

The beds we had were the traditional on the floor beds that really added to the ambiance of the experience and we had a lot of room on the patio + couch and tv area.

I enjoyed wearing the Yukatas as it really was a great experience overall and everyone on staff was extremely attentive, courteous and straight up helpful. I would come back whenever I am in Japan.

Great hotel with an amazing and attentive staff. We loved our room with private Onsen and were so surprised when we found out that dinner and breakfast were included! The shuttle was very helpful down to the train station however we did not realize there was a shuttle when we arrived so we hiked up the mountain to the hotel which was a bit of a hike.
Would absolutely recommend to anyone staying in the area!

A blend of traditional japan with modern touch

Excellent stay . Went there for a honeymoon trip. Booked the traditional room. Everything is well taken care off. Shuttle to hotel, service upon arrival, and dinner and breakfast is excellent.
Public onsen is awesome and the private rooftop onsen is another experience all together.

Maybe the only downside for some may be the view from the room valley which is half the mountain half the hakone Yumoto town.

Other wise it is a very excellent choice , with 5-star service . The extra gesture of complimentary drink for our honeymoon was a pleasant surprise.

Relaxing Break from Tokyo

Stayed one night in route from Tokyo to Kyoto. Easy access via train and not a long walk. They do offer pick up from the train station and we wish we would have taken it -although the walk is 10 mins, it's up a steep hill. Room was spacious and the futons were comfortable. The baths were excellent and a great way to relax. Baths are open in the am and again in the PM until midnight. We booked the room including half board -all Japanese food with generous amounts. We would definitely stay again, but would skip the food.

Pure bliss

If there is a heaven on earth for adults then this is it right here. Everything about Aura Tachibana was AMAZING. All the staff were super attentive, nice and were able to communicate in English. I booked the Japanese western styled room with my own private onsen on the balcony and it was pure bliss. The room was also very big, clean and had just the right mix of modern hotel and traditional ryokan. All of your toiletries are provided and they use good brands like L'Occitane and Shiseido. The 10 course kaiseki dinner and the less complex but equally impressive breakfast were both amazing. I honestly could not have wished for more from this hotel. HIGHLY recommend for anyone that just wants to relax for a night away from all the tourist activities.

Relaxing time at Aura Tachibana

Overall service was excellent. We were served green tea upon arrival and there were quite a few english speaking staff. They were all very helpful and pleasant. We had also made a request since one in our party had a birthday that evening. Realizing that we should have made the request before we arrived at the property, we didn't expect much, but they were able to make a specialty drink and sing \"Happy Birthday\" at dinner, which was really nice. The kaiseki dinner was truly extravagant, too, especially if you enjoy seafood. There was a nice variety of everything.
Our room had an onsen bath, which was wonderful.
Reading the reviews when booking the hotel, I want to point out that others said that upon arrival at the train station, if you ask the tourist information people to call the hotel for the shuttle, the hotel will send their shuttle for a pick up. However, the shuttle does not start running until 2pm (hotel check-in time).
