I really enjoyed the charm of the property, and I would happily stay again. I opted for a shared toilet, but I had my own sink and shower in my room, which was very convenient. Overall, the property has a lovely atmosphere.

Love this place. A different type of hotel stay.

This place is amazing and a far cry from the chaos of a place like Salou or the soul-less bigger hotel chains. As soon as you walk through the door you go 'wow' as the entrance area is amazing with an old-style elevator that takes you up to reception. The room was super-cool with high celings and high windows with a balcony, which just let the the nicest light in to the room, making it feel really like you were on holidays in Barcelona, and not just in another hotel room. Small second bet for our boy was perfect and a super-powerful shower. The relaxed vibe continued in to the breakfast area, where a nice breakfast was on offer and it all felt so calming and relaxing after a chaotic stay in Salou.

Staff were really friendly too and happily let us leave our cases there for several hours before we had to head back to the airport. Easy reach to the city centre in 20 mins in a bus almost outside the door.

We have a good experience at Hostal Girona. We stayed for 2 nights in Barcelona. Its a beautiful small hotel with a shower in your room but the washroom are sharedbut always clean. The breakfast buffet were delicious. We will be happy to stay here again.

Beautiful, charming property. My shower hot water didn't work so well but I would book here again without hesitation because it was so nice! The staff was warm & pleasant, the breakfast and the coffee machine was really great. The location was amazing I almost regretted getting the unlimited Barcelona metro card (but not really) - you can walk to many great places.

The deck was cute and quaint. It was very central and allowed great means of walking around to various sites. Most tourist attractions are within a 30-45 min walking distance. Also, the restaurant right below called Rimini, Rimini is amazing!

Don't expect 5 star and you won't be disappointed. Great team on reception always helpful. Very quaint setting and rustic feel. High ceilings and air conditioning bonus. Very central location and lots of shops around. Easily go back to stay. Maybe have a mini fridge would be perfect to keep the wine chilled.

I’ve stayed in a few hostels before and this place is very different; a replaced vibe like a mini hideaway in the city. Staff are above and beyond helpful. Breakfast is incredible (and traditional). Clientele are usually a bit older so you don’t have drunks wondering the halls like other hostels. Amazingly clean and great visual presence. Only wish I could have afforded to stay longer.

fun- just one suggestion- put a big sign that the

very close to Catalunya plaza from where you can take a bus shuttloe to the airport, the metro to go around the city, las ramblas.. very nice, super helpful staff. The funkiest, cutest elevator you've ever see! At our hotel in Madrid they had the same elevator on display as a curiosity! but at Girona's it was a working elevator- cool

Terrific location, quiet block but near restaurants, metro, grocery. Very nice room, great size, very clean. Only thing was it was right off the reception so I could hear what was going on in the reception area. Hostel is on 2nd floor, but has a small elevator.

Great location, nice room.

We had a pleasant stay at Hostal Girona. The high ceiling room (for 3) was spacious even with the roll-away bed. A tiny balcony overlooking the street was very nice. The attached bathroom was compact and adequate. The water pressure pump worked well but the noise took a little getting used to. The WIFI worked great!
The location was fantastic and one could find little cafes at the end of the street. Metro and bus were a couple of blocks away and Plaza Catalunya and la Ramblas a pleasant 15 minute walk. The Gothic quarter, Sagrada Familia were all within walking distance.
Now for the whinging: A bit on the expensive side. The room didn't have cups or other paraphernalia to store / drink water till we asked and were given plastic cups for use. One had to buy drinking water - seems normal everywhere (hotels / restaurants) we went in Spain. The lack of breakfast facility was also a bit of a bummer. The hotel reception is unmanned from midnight to 6a.m and we had to let ourselves out for our 4:30 a.m departure. Staff was friendly and helped us with suggestions and issues, including setting up our early morning taxi.

I booked two nights instead of three, and booking an additional night was easy and not a problem. The first night we were in a different room as booked, with a private bathroom. Second and third nights we were switched to a larger room, but shared bathroom, which is what we paid for.
The rooms were clean, and mostly comfortable. The rooms are good for sleeping in, if you plan on spending most time outside. The balcony's were nice. The shared bathrooms seemed newly renovated and modern. The hotel overall was not modern, but it gives a nice feel to old Spain. The elevator was fun too, old fashioned. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
The only complaint we had was that the second floor and next door was a college, so later into the morning, the courtyard was full of chatty students. So if you sleep with the balcony windows open, you may be bothered.
The hotel was in a nice neighborhood, walking distance from all our favorite restaurants and the metro. Only a short metro trip to the beach.

Location, location, location, and BED!

Pros:
1) Location - 2 min. walk to nearby subway station, 10 min. walk to Casa Batllo, 8 min. walk to Pl. Catalunya, 18 min. walk to La Sagrada Familia.
2) Staff - They speak English and are very friendly and helpful.
3) Bed - VERY COMFORTABLE. It is almost like TempurPedic-type bed.

Cons:
1) Noise outside - You'll hear a lot of them. It did not bother me much, but if you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring ear plugs.
2) It is minor, but we had a hard time opening and locking the door. I hope that, in the future, they would update the lock mechanism on the door.

We enjoyed our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

The location is between a few stops. Whichever way you have to walk, but at a reasonable distance. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the common area has free drinks amd fresh fruits. The only down side is that the walls are not sound proof, can be quite noisy when people go in and out.

Traditional hostal in a great location

The hostal is located very conveniently near Pl. Catalunya making it very easy to get to the various sites. Staff were polite and were able to accommodate our very late check in.

Our room was quite plain (not one in the photos) and dark (even in the day you needed to turn on the light) but had everything you needed and the bed was comfortable. Shower pressure was good but noisy, we avoided having showers late at night for fear of waking the neighbours.

Overall I would recommend this place if you are used to hostel accommodation and want somewhere comfortable and well-located at a reasonable price. If you prefer to spend more time in your accommodation then I would ask to upgrade your room or this may not be the right place for you.

Comfortable accommodation with character.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. The en-suite room was small but with a good sized 'balcony', which added additional space and everything was functional and very clean. We could, however, have done with a couple of glasses or tumblers, even plastic ones, in the bathroom - these are not things one usually carries with one on a city visit. During our four day stay, we only saw hotel staff at check-in and check-out but we were received well by two ladies and checked out politely by a young man. The reception area was in a different part of the property and only accessible through a closed and locked door which, when we went to check out, none of the keys given to us would open. All in all, though, we enjoyed our stay and this property certainly met our needs.

We loved Hostal Girona! The reception staff were very accommodating when we were late checking in and again when we wanted to extend our stay. They were also helpful with printing and recommendations. The Hostal is in a great location. Many attractions were only a short metro ride away, but there are also plenty of things within walking distance - restaurants, shopping, beautiful plazas and architecture, bars or clubs. The rooms were spacious and clean, and having a shower and sink in the room was convenient. I will definitely be staying there again.

Greatest location at the best price - rooms small

The hostel´s door are not open until around 9 am. I arrived early at 7 am from my flight, and thought the hotel had closed. Its located in a very very old house. The people working are extremely, extremely nice and comprehensive. My room was very small with the bathroom outside. The smallest batkroom I have ever been in. It is worth the stay here for the price and the great great location, Situated near the Gran Via Avenue ( 2 blocks )and 3 or 4 blocks away from Plaza Catalunya . I got lucky by picking this great stay and at a great location. Exactly what I needed.

My room was very small and in need of immediate repairs and renovation. The window looked out into a dirty air shaft and was therefore kept shut. The furniture was old, damaged, and minimal (no chair;small storage bureau for clothes). The bathroom shower was at least 16 inches off floor with low head space, which made showering a challenge. At one point staff came into my room unannounced to measure the door.

This hostel was a great taste of what it would be like to live in the city. Unfortunately, the noise level made it very hard to sleep. The first night I got maybe 4 hours of sleep, the next two nights I used ear plugs and the air conditioning to drown out the noise. The staff was very nice with great dinner suggestions.

Quaint Hostal in Great Barcelona Location

This is our second stay at this Hostal in Barcelona. It is close (about 750 meters) to Placa Catalunya which is the center of transportation in Barcelona as well as part of Las Ramblas (street is always alive).
It is a quaint Hostal in a very old building (has elevator) shared with a school (lower level) and family houses (upper floors). There are excellent Barcelona restaurants and bars within a block or two for very reasonable prices (Barcelona residents not tourist places) and very friendly. Several clothing stores and outlets some OK and some better. Many only sell wholesale and need a business license. My wife (clothing manager for Saks, Bloomingdale etc.) found a purse she rated excellent and bought. No designer knock-off just good quality and design at excellent price.
Best area to stay in Barcelona to live the city as a local or a tourist. Arch of Triumph is walking distance with a nice park and Zoo.
The charm of the place is the old building, marmol stairs, solid entrance door and old decor.
Get your bearings from Plaza Catalunya as the street toward Girona is the one by the larger Corte Ingles store.

Great Budget Hostal in Barcelona

Great price for the single room with private bathroom. Building has a lot of character with its grand stone entrance and wooden elevator. The room itself was large for Barcelona and had a beautiful original floor, and a sitting area with a view overlooking the terrasse. The reception was very helpful and held onto my luggage before and after checkout. Walls are pretty thin, and you can hear guests coming and going, which was't too much of a problem, however probably not ideal for families with small children, groups of party-goers, etc.

Though the room was a bit over-heated (in March) and the bed not the most comfortable I've slept in, the building alone is so lovely and the price so reasonable, I'd definitely stay again when I'm back in Barcelona.

Hideaway simple, friendly hotel.

Great value for money in a peak week where most hotels were sold out in the city. My room was basic and for the hotel large (so there are much smaller rooms with shared facilities than the one I stayed in). The owner was very helpful and kind and overall I enjoyed my stay more than in a larger custom hotel. One challenge is to find the hotel and the entrance on the street front - it's discretely marked with a small sign, that's it. It's on the first floor within a larger building.

We had a great 3 days in Barcelona, the hostal is in a beautiful old building with all the original charm and features, amazing ceilings and the owners keep it in fantastic condition, the place is so clean it's untrue - possible a little too clean infact as the smell of bleach is quite over powering the only downside to our stay as it gave us a bit of a headache they use so much in the room, other than that the place is great, friendly helpful staff and excellent value for money.

Great location!

We were happy to stay here again after enjoying our visit here last year. We thought we had the best room in 2014 but this year was even better. Both years there were three adults. Last year we had a great room with a big enclosed balcony that my sons used every day. This year, we were given 2 adjoining rooms for my husband, my son and me. Both rooms provide their own small balcony, sink, two beds and a shower. The shower is actually too small for the large men in my family but I was able to use it. The 2 bathrooms were located conveniently outside our room and the internet worked inside the room. I don't remember this problem last year but this time, water did seem to be on the bathroom tile floor from previous guests who had used the shower. Last year I had to sit on the comfortable couch just outside our room in the common hall but that was also fine.
The location is half a mile from the Las Ramblas/Pl Catalunya area (where you can get the Hop on Hop off bus) and last year we also walked daily to the beach but this is about 1.5 miles. The Sagrada Familia is a little over a mile. There is a variety store across the street where we were able to pick up snacks and drinks.
We would definitely stay here again.

Good hotel for great price

Stayed for 2 nights. The hotel offers really good value for money. We had a double room with ensuite bathroom. The room was spotless and clean, hotel staff very friendly and stored our luggage until evening departure. You will hear other residence as it's an old building with limited sound insulation. The hotel has free wifi in order to get a decent reception we had to check the mail I the lounge instead of the bedroom.
If you want a clean room with ensuite facilities close to the centre and don't want to spend to much the Girona is perfect.

We had a small room in the hotel as we were just staying 2 nights. It was small but fine, clean and very convenient to the old town and the metro (for getting to the Gaudi sites). We walked right by it at first as it hasn't a large presence on the street. (Be sure to have the address at hand) You have to ring their bell, enter the building and go up to the third floor reception office. They don't serve breakfast and it was a bit of a search to find any shop selling breakfast before 8am.

Recommend this hotel

This was a great place to stay and very well-located. We arrived late in the evening and the staff were welcoming and quickly helped us settle in. The building is wonderful, beautifully furnished and quite interesting, also close to Plaza de Catalyunia as we arrived by aerobus.
The room was large, comfortable with own bathroom. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, which offered the best value for money on our entire trip.

Can't beat the value

You can't get better for the price. I stayed in the more hotel-like part of the hostel (private room, private bathroom). The room was small but sufficient and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. The building was beautiful and in a great location. Highly recommended.

A very friendly reception was followed by introduction to a very clean, pleasant room. The staff went above and beyond expectations, printing out flight tickets and arranging taxi for the following morning's check out.

Place with character

Small place, with old Spanish character. Located within easy walking distance to many attractions in Barcelona. The metro is close to walk too as well. We had a standard room with attached washroom, was basic and clean. The window however was really just a skylight with no view and we kept it closed. They have larger deluxe rooms - suggest trying that for some more ambiance. Its a beautiful old building and management has done a good overall job of making it more than just a hostel. A good place to stay if you want something more than a no frills hostel, reasonably priced and comfortable.

Fabulous bang for your Euro!

Safe, convenient, clean single room. Exactly what they stated. I even rebooked for my return visit. The 5 stars are based on what I stated. If you are looking for a \"5\" star hotel, then this is not for you.

Convenient, safe, clean

The location is a nice quiet neighborhood and conveniently located close to the Ramblas area and the old gothic section. The rooms were somewhat small, the A/C worked well, but there is a water pump in the bathroom which is noisy when used. We understand this is being updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. The young woman working as a concierge by the street door is cheerful, and a great source of information for the city.

We enjoyed the charm of the old building, including the unique lift and the balcony with windows that opened up onto the courtyard. The sitting room and giant wooden door to our room was quaint. The bathroom vent/fan did not work. The location was with walking distance to the city center.
