Staff were great, upgraded room to superior, and wondered why bothered. Only 1 plug socket was available to use so had to choose what to either charge or use. Kettle miles away from socket, fridge balanced on unsteady case rack. Not worth the upgrade. Bathroom not very clean and bedroom dusty. Very dated and building in general very run down. On a positive, staff were friendly and welcoming and bed comfy. Just very basic accommodation

Bed was very comfortable. I slept really well. Only problem with the room was a bit short on the tea and coffee supplies. 4 little sealed pots of milk do not go far enough. Breakfast was good for me although the coffee was dreadful. I would stay here again. The staff are really great.

Lisa on reception who checked us in and out was very helpful and courteous. May in the dining room was very polite and friendly. Our room was a nice size. TV reception was a bit hit and miss. There were no drawers in the room to put underwear away so everything was on show on a shelf. Food was good. Buffet breakfast had plenty of choice. Dinner portions a fair size and tasty food.

I think for the rating and price, some updates to the rooms need to be made. The room entry doors do not meet the floor meaning you can hear others in their rooms constantly, and there's a draft. No way to control temperature in the rooms, and the curtains were dirty and decor quite old.

Platform lift out of action looks like has been for a while so in order to get from reception to lifts you had to leave the building and go around and back in a double heavy doored possibly a fire escape but not certain

Room really well appointed and staff helpful but no reliable hot water and shower didn’t work (no water), was moved to another room for second night but only had hot water in the evening so morning shower cold. Both rooms had baths but water to baths also cold. Bathrooms tired with cracks/chips in the sinks.

The trek to our room was bad. We took the lift. Good. Then....we had to transverse a long corridor, then through anothher door, up a short flight of stairs, then another corridor!
Maybe invest in another lift?
Breakfast was Excellent - and plentiful.
Our room was very nice.

Room and facilities: Coffee maker, kettle and initial supplies for beverages good..mini fridge and safe very useful. Cleanliness of room and bathroom excellent.. bathroom supplies ( soaps, shampoo etc. excellent). Hot water perhaps too hot.. difficulty setting safe shower temperature.
Breakfast buffet very good variety of continental, fresh fruit and full english style cooked ingredients.
Bar/ Restaurant a little understaffed when very busy with coach parties.. our 2nd evening dinner marred by undercooked vegetables.. returned to kitchen but came back much the same.. the accompanying Salmon was very good however, as was the Fish and chips. We will return..

Stock in rhe bar was awful, ran out of so much stuff, no tonic, no Southern Comfort, 1 bottle of Pinot Grigio. Menu choice is shocking. Like a pub menu. Only thing I fancied on the menu eas fish and chips, they didn't have it. So had the Aberdeen Angus burger. It was awful, only ate half, my nephew didn't eat his at all after 1 mouthful. One of the party had salmon but couldn't eat the broccoli as it was so hard. Sanitary bin in ladies was overflowing which is a bio hazard. Carpet in dining room had loads of stains. Settee had a hole in the material exposing the foam which is a fire hazard. We have been coming here every year for 8 years and it has gone so downhill. Will not be staying again.

Comparing with other Mercures we have stayed in, very poor. The room so hot we couldn't sleep. Only given one pillow each and had to ask twice for extras. Only one teabag, again had to ask for some and no biscuits.
Why when two people book a room is there only one chair?? It makes a very uncomfortable stay

Accommodated on the second floor up two large flights of stairs in the old part of the complex. No lifts. Not ideal if you've got COPD and Asthma, let alone artificial hip's. Would have been helpful if this had been brought to my attention prior to arriving etc. Prices for evening meals were also on the steep side.

The outside looks very tired but our room was surprisingly good. Sadly a couple of things could have been better. The outside furniture was very shabby. And the menu was lacking in gluten free options and it's not that difficult to give this option without compromising the menu. There were no chicken wings or tenders 2 of the very limited choice for a gluten free diet. So disappointing on a lovely evening in the garden.

Disappointing Stay – Poor Conditions and Service

While I don’t usually leave reviews, our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. Several issues made the stay uncomfortable and frustrating:

Room Conditions
•Excessive heat: The room was uncomfortably hot (30+°C) upon arrival. The window had been left open, presumably to cool the room, but it had little effect.

•Poor ventilation: Despite requesting a second fan, it took over 9 hours and a follow-up request to receive one.

•Recurring problem: Staff acknowledged that heat complaints are common due to the room being above the pool.

•No relocation option: We requested to move rooms but were told the hotel was fully booked.

Customer Service
•Inconsistent communication: Another guest was told repeatedly there were no available rooms—until one “suddenly” became available after 45 minutes, with a tired child in tow.

•Key card issues: Our room key stopped working after each use and had to be reprogrammed three times.

Facilities
•Pool hygiene concerns: The pool appeared unclean and caused skin irritation for my partner the next day.

•Inappropriate conduct: A woman swam in a vest top, see through & nearly topless, in front of children, and staff did not intervene.

•Water temperature issues: The tap water in the room remained hot—even on the coldest setting—making it unusable for drinking or refilling bottles.

Outdated, hot and pricey

Hotel was very dated in decor. It was a very hot couple of nights; whilst not something the hotel can changed, there was no air con but just a fan blowing around hot air. The heated mirror in the bathroom and pipes by the window was also adding to the heat.
The doors slam shut and a gap under the bedroom doors means you can hear the people in the corridors. The corridors were also lined with empty bottles and glasses when we arrived, so not very welcoming.
Rooms was generally well cleaned and the bed was comfy.
There was a boxing event the first night we arrived so there was also noise from this; it would have been courteous if the hotel informed its guests of this in advance.
Didnt have breakfast so can't comment on the food quality.
Personally I wouldn't stay again and didnt think it was worth the cost.

With the freak UK weather air con is a must. But fully understand for the 4 days a year we get excessive weather it’s probably not worth the cost. But that said it’s a nice hotel with great Staff

If it weren't for the staff, this would be a typical run-of-the-mill conference hotel.

However, the staff are outstanding - I stay in hotels at least twice a week, and the reception experience from Steve was the best and friendliest I've ever had. Throughout the rest of my day, from breakfast, through to the events team I noticed such care and passion from the team, with many people pro-actively spotting when guests needed help or guidance. Really world-class service, thank you.

Stayed for a night begore visiting Leeds Castle (literally next door).
Room was clean and lovely view.
But the only thing I would say is the room needs more sockets. None by the bed to charge phone, and I had to put the kettle and tea tray, together with the seperate coffee machine, all on the dressing table, as no plugs anywhere else to plug into. So was constantly plugging / unplugging hair straightners, lamp, kettle, coffee machine and phones. But other than that small problem, I would recommend the hotel and stay again.

Terrible service in restaurant. Never actually ate there as in quiet place with less than 5 tables in use felt invisible. Other patrons who arrived after us were served first. Also immediately canceled 2nd night we had just booked. In Room 102 could hear Terrible noises like a door moving on squeaky rollers all night. Fan didn't work in bathroom. Generally very tired decor in hotel. Only one spoon on amenity tray, very few tea bags and one pack of biscuits. On the plus side it was a nice king size bed. Certainly didn't merit star racing. I have never given such a negative review on a property. So disappointed as it has the potential to be really nice.

Very very dirty. very noisy the banging of the corridor door which was opposite my room for 301 every time some one came in or out. Requested a fan in the room as no aircon in the room which I did not realise but reception said there was one in the room which there was not had to phone to ask for one to be brought to the room the room I felt had not been cleaned for my stay with you as photos will show as I am asthmatic this dust made me feel poorly and had to use my nebuliser in the night as the fan was filthy and was just spreading the dust. I wished I had taken a photo of the fan.but they will know what this is like as it is still in the room I was told there were twin beds that I could push together so I did not roll out of the bed and fall on the floor this was not doable because of the bedside table. Why would they ring me bk and tell me this was correct in the accessible room I could push the beds together this was room 301

In desperate need of renovation

I have stayed at some great mecures but this is not one of them. Many parts of this hotel are run down , the carpets look to be from the 80s and it really shows with how clean they are. The swimming pool was OK but the ceiling had holes in it and is in dire need of renovation. There is no aircon and the radiators in the hallway were switched on (it’s 20 degrees late May) the bathroom was OK but the shower curtain was too short and water just drips onto the floor. Curtains were half falling off the rail. The bedding was clean and service desk lady was nice. Ok for a pit stop but nothing else

Had booked for several nights. Got there late on Sunday. The room smelt of stale smoke and made me feel sick. The bed i slept in made me itch like crazy. I ended up putting on more clothes so i had less skin in contact with the bed. And then the shower was cold in the morning, and i mean freezing cold. They changed my room for the rest which was marginally better. Will never return.

On arrival to my room the bed hadn’t been made and there were dirty cups still there. Went to the receptionist and she kindly moved me to another room. There was a lot of mould and damp in the corridors of the hotel. My new room had blood on the lampshade. Gym was a good size and had lots of machines. Restaurant was small, long wait for a table. Bar area also small, hardly any tables or chairs most people standing up. Bar food was nice, long wait though about 40 minutes.
