I don't understand why they charge the amount they do for a night. The hotel rooms are old, smelling, towels look like a floor cloth. Bed linen is so cheap. Staff is just ok. 400 euros per night for this? Disappointed

Stayed here twice, bookending a week-long hiking trip in SE Kazakhstan. A new, fully appointed hotel-a little further from the city center than the big Soviet-era hotels, but still within easy walking distance from most major city attractions. Hotel was very accommodating for me around very early arrival and very late departure times.

This hotel is 5 stars in name only. The hard product and service are 3 stars at best. While the lobby is opulent, the standard rooms are dated and in dire need of a remodel. The room assigned to me had stained carpets. The mattress was too firm, and the top bed sheet had small holes on it. Upon arrival at 4:00AM, no one from the bell desk staff offered to assist me with my luggage even though there were several of them just milling around by the entrance. If you order room service, you had to pay for your items at the time of delivery (no room charge!). On a positive note, my orders were delivered to me exactly within 30 minutes as promised. The friendliness and professionalism of the staff were inconsistent. Some were outstanding and others did not want to be bothered.

Located within walking distance (20 min) or a short taxi ride from The Baluan Sholak Palace of Culture and Sport. Excellent breakfast buffet every morning. Thanks to the staff at reception for helping book a last minute taxi to the airport early in the morning which arrived in no time. Recommend using their pick up service too. Best to have them give passengers arriving 30 extra minutes to deal with luggage, immigration.

I’ve stayed many times at the Rixos and this was by far the worst stay.
I’ll start with the positive which was the Spa.
The negatives
5 emails and 2 phone calls to arrange airport pickup.
Arrived at 18.00 to be told the room was not ready.
Ordered room service. After 90 minutes it didn’t arrive so I cancelled.
No towels left after housekeeping. Had to go and find the housekeeping staff to get staff.
Requested hotel car to the airport only to be told they had none available and offered no alternative. For a 5 star hotel this is completely unacceptable.

I arrived very early, due to early flights. They weren't at all accommodating. I tried to explain that I spent 30+ hours in airplanes and airports, and needed rest very badly. They said they had room available but couldn't let me check in until the official check in time. I get it when they are fully booked, but that wasn't the case. If you're in the hospitality business, it's often appreciated by customers when the hotel is more welcoming and accommodating, especially a highly-rated hotel. I spent 5 hours in the lobby, waiting. Unacceptable!! I travel a lot, and in most cases when my flights arrive early, hotels don't make me wait and feed me their \"policy\" excuse. They just accommodate. I didn't get a warm welcome at Rixos.

We have been coming to the Rixos Almaty for several years now. While it continues to be a great oasis in the middle of the city, it is beginning to feel a bit worn. While the reservation system also indicated we would receive a SPA credit, the hotel does not offer such. The reservation system also indicated you could check-in as early as 6:00am -- which the hotel will separately confirm is possible but at much added cost. In summary, the reservation system is misleading. It may also be due to the COVID situation and that hotel restaurants (other than the Lobby bar) are closed, but the quality and variety of food for room service is limited and of so-so quality for a hotel of this level. In general, a good stay still and we will return, but a different experience from before.

Fancy hotel with luxurous interiors. Breakfast is good, some Kazakh dishes and specialities are available. The room is spacy and comfortable. SPA zone was very pleasant and quite big, The only thing is the water temperature in the pool which might be higher. Reasonable choice for business travellers.

Disappointing stay, not a 5* hotel anymore

Disappointing! First off, when you pay $250+ per night, you'd expect a normal mattress to sleep on. Mine was curved/concave on one side but flat on the other, leading to a not-so-pleasant sleep. This was the case in two different rooms, so I didn't expect any better by changing a third time. Food is good but rather overpriced. Lastly, most disappointingly, I checked out in the morning to go snowboarding, after which I wanted to use their sauna and fitness facilities (while waiting for my evening flight) but their rule is after you check out, you cannot use their facilities any more unless you pay ~$50 USD. After paying close to $800 USD for three nights, this is a bit ridiculous. Every other top hotel usually let's their guests use their facilities on the day of their check out if they have to wait for a flight. Overall disappointed in these three aspects, wouldn't return unless they replace their mattresses and allow guests to use their facilities on check out day without an extra fee.

The room was spacious and immaculate. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a wide variety of hot and cold options for all dietary requirements. We used the pool and SPA on several occasions and the service was impeccable. We were lucky to stay in the hotel on a Sunday, so was able to partake in the 12-4 Sunday Brunch, which was amazing value, Marzhan was a great help in the restaurant. Car parking is free and the WiFi was high speed. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great spa, great breakfast. Great location for walking to the hard rock restaurant.. Elevators will arrive and let you wait..room temperature can be tricky but the outside door could be left cracked open on the sixth floor. Room cleaning was good but did not respond to door tag and turn down service was late in the evening so my guess is the need more stafff there.. everyone was nice..building looked in great condition but the bathroom had a moldy smell a couple of times ,maybe from the tub jets or the drain.. taxi shuttle service from the hotel is about three times more than the local rate. Taxi to airport was 4,000 local but hotel was asking 23,000 or more. Taxi to local site was 2k local currency yet city taxi was only 400.. so with a 320 to one exchange it is still a good rate.. I liked the pool and the great spa service..

The Rixos Almaty is a great deal. The hotel is beautiful, the service is great, and the rooms are comfortable, well-appointed, and tastefully decorated. The bathroom has a whirlpool bath and a separate shower. What's not to love? Well, our mattress was very firm, and I wasn't aware of the six(!) available pillow choices until after the first night, when it was too late. I woke up with a pinched nerve behind my right shoulder from sleeping on my side with inadequate neck support. So, lesson learned -- ask for the more supportive pillows at check-in.

Staff was amazing and helpful, grounds are gorgeous and room is very comfortable with all the amenities. Only negative was our meal in their main restaurant. They were out of red wine by the glass, out of several soups we tried to order and once we did order the food was average at best. Other than that great experience.

Hotel is quite nice. Rooms were alright. Lady at Guest services desk made our trip! Suggested and organized us to go to a great steakhouse and provided a discount card. Also recommended good bars and was smiling!
Hotel in-house prices are fairly high for food and drinks and details such as needed to special request an ironing board was kind of offsetting.

Luxurious and welcoming.

We arrived very early in the morning. We were offered an early room rate, which although not cheap, was welcome and allowed us to sleep off our flight and be ready to make the most of our first day. An additional breakfast was included within this charge too.

All staff were extremely polite, friendly and accommodating including an evening visit each day with a \"goodnight\" chocolate gift left on the bed by one of the team.

Very disappointed. I arrived at 10:30 PM and the room was not ready. Even if I asked for a non-smoking room, I get the only one available which was a smoking room with a strong smell. I found a lighter and paper from pack of cigarette next to the bed. The pressure of the hot water was not sufficient. It was very difficult to take a shower. Price compare to previous experience in Almaty is too expensive for the service rendered.

Great public areas. Huge selection at the breakfastbuffet. But bad internet connection. Terrible guest relation officer who always told us wrong price for sightseeing tour, taxi to the airport etc. so our tour and taxi costed much more than the hotel told us. It seemed like the hotel is not interested in tourists.Slow and expensive in the cafe.

Perfect for a 3 day business visit

Gym and Swimming pool/spa were really nice. The pool being 25m was a real bonus. Nice big atrium with comfy sofas and a decent food menu which is ideal for catching up on a day's emails. Didn't have much time to explore Almaty so not too sure how the neighbourhood compares to others, but there were a few decent restaurants nearby.

1 night in Almaty

Almaty is a great city and much nicer than Astana and Atyrau, Kazakhstan. There are many green spaces, parks and beautiful areas to enjoy. Unfortunately there is also smog from too many vehicles and the fact that the city is surrounded by mountains. The presidential gardens, the museums and the food are great. There are sky trams that allow you to see the entire city. We enjoyed our time in Almaty.

Rixos - Good quality hotel

The Rixos is very impressive when you first arrive, the ground floor is a massive open plan atrium which looks fantastic. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful. The rooms are more 4 star than 5 star, very clean and good quality, but not quite the quality I would expect from a 5 star hotel. The restaurant serves a good selection, accommodating both western and Kazakh tastes. Overall a good stay, I stay in over 100 hotels per year so am probably being a bit picky!!

Very good hotel by the local standards. The only complaint was that the breakfast was slow to arrive and was also cold by they time it did. Second time around i tried going for a option with no cooked ingredients, but it still took 40 minutes. Apart from that, no complaints.

Fantastic hotel for business

This was my first visit to Almaty. I stayed at the Rixos hotel in early March 2012 for a business trip. I emailed the hotel prior to my arrival and arranged for Airport pick up upon arrival. They quickly confirmed this. We were promptly met at the airport around 3AM when our plane landed and were taken to the Hotel which is about 30 minutes away from the airport. This was a nice feature considering the early morning arrival. Note: airport transfer fess are added to your bill so you should take advantage of the service.

I found the hotel was centrally located and the staff were fantastic. I especially found the duty manager (Marat) very caring and attentive to our needs. We had a problem with the hotel shower not working properly and he immedaitely sent a few of his staff to fix it.

The entrance and lobby are majestic and bright. The rooms are comfortable. A good place to conduct business meetings. The breakfast buffet was also very good.

I had a chance to visit several other hotels in Almaty during this trip but still prefer the Rixos. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again during my next trip.

Es un hotel con muy buenas instalaciones públicas como el lobby, restaurantes, gimnasio, tiendas; pero las habitaciones están terribles, alfombras sucias, las ventanas no cierran, se inundó la regadera, la luz funciona mal y el aspecto general dentro de la habitación es muy vieja y descuidada. Hice un reporte en front desk y solo ofrecieron una disculpa , terrible experiencia .
