Not the experience we are used to

I have stayed with my family a few times at this hotel and generally it is quite good apart from this stays service issues. We ordered a drink in the bar which was not very busy and then waited 20 mins to receive it even after asking where it was twice. Upon delivering the said round of drinks a bottle of coke was dropped onto me and my partner. They were of course apologetic but it compounded an already frustrating situation. We had booked the restaurant for 8pm and told the staff that we had however by 8.10pm no one had told us our table was ready so we just went through ourselves. We paid the full bill even though we should not have really paid for the spilt drinks. Overall the hotel is good but the service this time left a lot to be desired.

I booked 3 rooms in this hotel.. Hotel was generally clean but i was quite speechless when i found out that some rooms have no AC.. they provided a small fan though but in this warm weather it wasnt very useful.

there was no double bed in the room but 2 beds put together which wasnt ideal.

When having lunch, there was a worm in the straw of the drink which was disgusting and unacceptable.

Good thing was that parking was on site and free.

The whole look and feel of this hotel was excellence. The room was spacious and well equiped including the bathroom which is often an afterthought in many hotels.
The setting was tranquil with plenty of places to walk.
I stay in many hotels all across europe when travelling on business and for the cost i would put this one top of the list

Modern, clean, details need work

Great location, quiet and close bike and walking paths.
Room looked to be new, but bath plug was too small and I could not fill the tub, which was a shame. Internet dropped in and out of a wifi connection, and was not usable to watch a movie. The electronic door lock stopped working on the morning I was leaving, and some one had to open the door for me. Other than that, modern, clean place to stay

One to avoid

Having stayed at other Van Der Valk hotels I was expecting the same high level of standards I have experienced before. Not so ! This hotel is in desperate need of some investment. From entering the main accommodation block you are instantly hit with a stale musty smell of a dying building. The rooms are old and tied and in desperate need of upgrading. Even the room key is a physical key and not a modern and secure key-card. You have to re-lock your room from the inside. Breakfast can only be described basic and for EUR15 you'd certainly expect a lot more choice and freshness. Coffee from the machine was the highlight ! My colleagues room had a large centipede walking across the bathroom and the sink was half hanging off the wall. Overall, a very very disappointing experience and I wouldn't recommend. The following night I stayed at a different Van der Valk and it was perfect so I'm really surprised they have allowed this property to fall into such decline. It's in a great location.

This hotel is more like a motel. We stayed there because we had a party nearby. On the positive side there is a small fan. on the negative side there is no window to open & the bed is (too) soft. However, this is not the ritz but a motel. So all in all; what you pay is what you get.

Nice hotel which ticked most of the boxes. Road works going on atm so getting here was a challenge with road closures. Very comfortable and convenient. Just some constructive criticism.. the shower curtain / guard is not long enough so water spills on to the bathroom floor.. that could be a trip hazard. Other than that.. even although that.. i really enjoyed my stay.

Never agree to get a room on the outer wing especially in cold seasons. A chilled air flows through door/windows and main heater does not give enough warm.

Inadequate standard rooms. Breakfast okay.

Rooms are in a separate building but breakfast is in the main building (and it was pouring it down in the morning). The main building had been updated to a good standard. The other building not. The room was very humid and there were no windows to open. One could only ventilate the room by keeping the front door open but this felt very unsafe as other hotel guests (or outsiders) will pass or could enter.
The entrance of the hotel is badly lit and we had to pass it several times (in the dark) before finding it.
Breakfast was ok but we are used to much better in general at van de Valk hotels. No one checked if quantities needed replenishing. There were no clean breakfast bowls and no one was at hand to clear any tables. We ended up clearing one ourselves. Staff was friendly and quick to remedy the situation (the hotel might have been understaffed?).

Our favourite hotel!

Always stay at this hotel when we are in Belgium. Staff are great and the rooms were always nice but they have had a new part added and the rooms are stunning. Separate toilet to the shower room. All different lighting. Great big widescreen TVs and the beds are so comfortable. Lots of space and natural decor with balcony’s and fridges in room. One of our favourite hotels and always such a good price.

Road closed to hotel. Took us an hour to get in by way of detours. In the morning it was supposed to be open but it was blocked off again. Room was clean but stuffy so we used the fan most of the night. Overall disappointing.

Expected rural got construction and road noise

Building work going on half the hotel has been demolished
Downstairs room had no opening windows just a door which Being on the ground floor you had to lock
No telephone in room
Bed very clean and comfortable room not a bad size
Restaurant a little expensive and whisky a large one cost €14 and was served with ice without being asked for so had to wait for it to warm up before drinking
Road very busy until early hours
One of few hotels in the area however a few miles away you can get more for your money

Comfortable enough room, good bed and clean. A bit dated decor, no fridge in room, and insufficient privacy curtains in the bathroom. Bathroom also did not have a shower, just a bath with a shower-head. So had to sit in the bath and shower, which was very inconvenient.

Good experience. Best motel restaraunt ever.

We were told our room was \" the new one \". It was exceptionaly large, with ample room for 3. The third person had a bed ( pull outs were very common on this trip ) The room was clean. Would definately stay there again. The restaurant was excetional. Great waiter and really really good food. Overall, onr of the best experiences on our 3 weeks in Europe.

Convenient and clean hotel, a bit noisy

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel : nice room with comfortable bed, simple but nice breakfast, nice restaurant, friendly and helpful staff. It was also nice to see several vegetarian options on the menu.
A few drawbacks : very noisy during the night (no double-glazing ?), buildings look a bit dated, evening meal : fish gratin had been put in the micro oven and was not hot enough, not enough toiletries, no tissues in the room.
The positive things do outweigh the negatives, though.
Nice also that one can bring one's dog(s) (we will do so next time as the location is fantastic for nice walks).

THANK YOU Hotel Van Der Valk for a GREAT STAY !

I booked a double room.. this turned out to be two singles pushed together but beds were still very comfortable. Bathroom was good size but had a fight with the shower as it was a over bath and kept moving but water was loverly and hot once I got it.
Booked for breakfast the next morning and glad I did the food was AMAZING! worth every penny...
Hotel looks nice, in nice quiet area and not to far for trips in to other areas of belguim, trips to holland and shopping, great parking too... would advise car but thats the same for whole of belguim.
Only down side was no kettel... but they do have a bar for drinks until around 10pm... I'm used to this though so I got coffee and milk and used the hot tap... still good.. Lol
Staff had good english so no need for my bad flemish and they were all polite and helpful.
As a brit in belguim... great stay and next time I book i'll even take the kids (breakfast covered for all fussy eaters and a kids menu for the evening). Would recomend everytime...

I have not slept very well on the first night as I could hear the traffic. After advising the reception the next day, I was moved to a different room at the back of the building which was very quiet . The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Coffee or tea dispenser was not provided in the room , only a small bottle of water.

Value for the money

Error when connecting to the wifi and a bit slow. I can feel its a bit dusty, but that is expected since its beside the road. Vehicle noise is very prominent. For the price I paid, I can't complain. The room does not have aircondition, so take that in consideration when booking during summer. A very good value hotel. Not fit for divas or prima donnas.

My family have been using this hotel for decades as a place to stay and eat outside Antwerp. Excellent value. Excellent food. Friendly staff.
There were issues on this visit on one of the nights due to the good weather attracting many people to the terrace for drinks and snacks in the evening, which meant there was little or no staff to cover the restaurant. While only 3 or 4 tables were taken in the restaurant, the 3 course meal took some 2-3 hours to serve

Carpet was VERY dirty with tons of stains. There was no air-conditioning in the room. The walk from the room to the main building is by far too far. There was not enough room in the bathroom to put down my toiletries. This hotel should not carry the stars as advertised.

Nice Hotel, but Need a Car

This hotel is very nice, comfortable and clean, but I would recommend it only to people who have a car. We stayed here one night to attend a friend's wedding in the area while we were abroad. Getting here by bus was a nightmare, as the bus we took had its last stop almost a mile from the hotel, so we had to walk the rest of the way with our luggage and there is no sidewalk, we walked in the bike lane. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel, however the bus that stops there only stops once or twice an hour. The hotel is not particularly close to any sights/activities so you will likely be taking a taxi if you need to get any where from there. My only other complaint was that the shower was built so that the water goes EVERYWHERE, not surprisingly I detected a slightly moldy smell in the bathroom, though it appeared to be clean. Otherwise a nice quiet place to stay, but definitely for certain types of travelers (those with a car!).

We booked this hotel for both outward and return journey to Germany .The room facilities were very basic Building work was taking place from early morning. Parking was limited. The carpet in the room had dirt from the building work trodden in making the whole room feel dirty. The pictures give the impression of a rural location but was actually on a fairly busy road.

A very comfortable & friendly short stay hotel

Once again, an outstanding stay at the Dennenhof. Rooms were quiet, comfortable and well appointed. Very handy to visit the Antwerp region and s. Netherlands. Didn't eat at the hotel this time, but menus still looked good. We will be using this hotel next time we are in the area, Thank you Dennehof

Pictures do lie!

Forget the pictures on the website, which makes this look as though it is in the countryside.
It is right beside a busy road and the rooms face the road and are NOT well sound proofed.
The rooms are a good size, but some lights do not work and the electric sockets are in the wrong places, so you have to have cables across the entrance to the bathroom, if you want to use your computer at the desk area.

We stayed at this motel for a family wedding nearby. There were 8 in the party including two children, our accomodation was superb and the service excellent. Only downside, no tea or coffee facilities in or around the room and breakfast was expensive. The food in the evening was terrific and I would reccomend the fillet steak!

Prachtig hotel met vriendelijk personeel. Mooie schone kamer.
We hebben van het diner genoten, ontbijt niet genomen. Voor €25 pp is dit veel te duur.
