This hotel is great! Near everything. Comfy beds. Clean rooms. Bathroom snug, but was fine. Staff are lovely. The sweets and coffee at reception is a lovely little extra. Met other lovely guests too. Think this hotel was an old cinema, which explains quirky layouts, but it’s charming and cute! We had a great time here and will stay again when back in Munich.

Splendid location, within convenient walking distance of Munich's great art museums and parks, and easy access to a varied international food scene. We didn't try the hotel breakfast but there are many very nice cafes around the area. Our room was spacious, though the bathtub drain and sliding door had maintenance issues. Attentive and helpful staff. No lobby to speak of.

Clean hotel, friendly, helpful staff. Rooms not huge but comfortable and more than adequate for our four day stay. Excellent sound-proofing from traffic noise.
One small issue (OK, two). I'm not a great fan of glass bathroom doors - always feels a little exposed. Also the shower door was fiddly and didn't fully seal so we got puddles on the floor.
But excellent value for money in the heart of Munich within easy walking distance of The English Gardens, Marienplatz and the Old Town.

Wonderful place to stay

Very comfortable hotel with nice extras such as complimentary beer, soda, water, tea, and coffee as well as a candy bar in the lobby. Staff was friendly and helpful and the bed was comfortable. My only minor complaint was that the shower had low water pressure and the bathroom door was partially transparent.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at this property. The breakfast was good and staff made sure all selections were consistently replenished. Front desk and cleaning staff were very nice as well. The check in/out process was smooth. We did arrive before check in and they kept our bags for us and gave a restaurant recommendation while we waited. The rooms are quite small and the furniture in our room was \"pleather\" and peeling badly. Property is conveniently located about a 12 minute walk from Old Town/Marienplatz nearby the U-station or you can grab a taxi or Uber. If you're not too concerned with aesthetics and just need a place to lay your head, I would suggest this property.

Great hotel except for the chemical spray

Spacious rooms, good breakfast, friendly staff.
But every afternoon you spray a chemical air freshener, or is it an insecticide, in the rooms and on the landings, and it is very difficult to get rid of the toxic smell, even with windows wide open (and letting in the street noise). At least you stopped spraying my room after I asked. I suggest stopping this practice altogether or at least using a bio spray and less of it.

This property was a great value for the area. It was walkable to all the major sites. The only drawbacks were thin walls and not super comfortable beds. Loved the coffee machine in the room and the little bakery/coffee shop across the street.

Way over priced for a danged up tiny room

This hotel dared to charge €250 per night for a stuffy, smelly room with a single bed, no desk space and a bathroom with a crampy shower. The room had a lot of damages to walls and furniture.
They completely abused the situation of a high demand due to tradeshow. The price should have ben less than half.

Great hotel with lovely\helpful staff in a convenient location not far from the main hub (Marianplatz etc) and close to transport link if you plan to go further.
Rooms were clean and modern.
I give the Leonardo Boutique Five stars and will definitely be back.

Take note of the reviews!

We stayed for 4 nights and after reading a few negative reviews, we decided to go ahead seeing as the only time we spend in the room is when we sleep.

The location of the hotel is great, only a 10/15 minute walk into the centre. The staff were really friendly and attentive too, however that’s where the positives end.

A few issues we experienced -

- the beds are so uncomfortable. The pillows are a bizarre shape and you are given a single, thin duvet on the double bed. Even after doing 20,000+ steps I was struggling to drop off to sleep each night.
- it was really noisy at times, both outside the hotel and inside. Our room was on the 1st floor which is also where the restaurant is located. We had guests shouting to each other outside our room as early as 7am which was irritating. There was loud music coming from a bar on the Saturday night.
- the lighting isn’t great and as others say, it could do with a bit of a facelift but it’s not awful.

Overall, I probably wouldn’t stay here again to be honest. I’d recommend either paying more if you want to stay somewhere central or looking for something a little further out but worth the journey in.

Property doesn’t offer TV CHANNELS normally offered at most properties. Only some channels in German language available but it doesn’t look like there is cable TV service. No maintenance personnel available after 4 pm . We had an issue with the toilet and I was told that we needed to wait until the next morning to get someone to fix it.

Actually had tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, unique for Europe in my experience . It makes for very happy clients!
Super friendly, kind and helpful staff.
The best unlimited breakfast buffet I’ve seen for 20 years , dozens of food and drink options and all of them delicious good.
I scored breakfast for just $1 extra each day.
Excellent value for the price point I paid .
Bed clean and very comfortable.
Nice quiet neighbourhood, with lots of nearby pubs and restaurants.
No negatives really .Bravo!

A bit noisy though: temporary works in front of the hotel and a very successful / trendy bar under our windows ( we prefer that than a dull area).

Advantages: ideal location, very rich and tasty breakfast.
Disadvantages: somewhat dilapidated room, very small bathroom, very small elevator. In our room there was problems with electrical appliances. The replaced switch that didn't work, but the new one didn't work properly either. There was a problem with a lamp in the bathroom and they didn't even try fixing it. We didn't stay much in the room, so these things didn't bother us.

Our stay at the Leonardo was just fine.
The positive: The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was comfy and the windows and coverings were fairly good. And the location is very easy to the Altstadt and public transportion.
On the less positive: the walls were quite thin and we could hear our neighbor coughing most of the night, and the cleaning staff room. The bathroom was VERY small, and the shower drain was very slow. Several plugs did not have power and we have lost power for about 10 min (I think they had to reset a breaker after we called).
Overall, I probably wont stay here next time we visit Munich.

Long story short, this hotel overbooked its boutique hotel location and sent us to another location, near the train station in Munich. I had booked months in advance, and specifically wanted a location near the main museums. If I had had any advance warning, I would have booked a different hotel nearby. Place was clean, staff was nice, and they offered us free breakfast and parking at the new location, but to me that doesn't change the fact that you can't count on them to have the rooms you booked.

Great location , good access to park and city centre and the staff were friendly . The condition of the hotel was really disappointing and it really needs some money spending on it . The first room we were offered was small and dirty and had a terrible smell of dampness so we asked to be moved . The second room was bigger but then colour scheme is so dark it feels depressing and not very clean. The fixtures and fittings in the rooms and communal areas of the hotel are very worn and past their best and the decor is marked and dated. In all honesty we only stayed as we were so busy we weren’t in the room much otherwise we would have moved hotel.

The biggest down fall was the temp of the rooms, so very hot! We asked for the temp to be turned down but were told it was not possible as the heat was still on there was no air yet. We opened the window but it hardly helped. Then at night with the window open it was very noisy. Once the kitchen staff arrived and the noise carried across the court yard it was impossible to keep the window open due to noise. That was the biggest issue, besides that everything was perfect.

The hotel staff was very friendly. Mareinplatz was a 15 min walk. There are quite a few resturants nearby. 1 resturant next to hotel and 1 across the street. There is a breakfast place across the street. 1 block down is a bar with very friendly staff that speaks english. The hotel lobby serves drinks and beer 24 hours at the reception desk.

Very small room but it was okay given the modernist, minimalist, artsy spiel. Breakfast was very good. The strangeness was the reception. If you need advice, help, or directions, forget it - you are on your own; especially if you encounter the blond young woman - she was dismissive and sarcastic. I was just at similar hotels in bergen, helsinki, and oslo. The reception at Leonardo was truly disappointing, in general as well as comparatively speaking.

Comfortable hotel in a pleasant neighborhood

Although it isn't fancy, the hotel is quite comfortable, with a great breakfast. It is located in a very pleasant Munich neighborhood near the university, with numerous cafes and restaurants. Most of Munich's museums and monuments, including the English Garden, are within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Launching Point for Conference and Exploration

Good location. Friendly staff. Easy transportation connections are at the Leonardo Boutique Hotel.
I arrived in Munich at 8:30 and made my way to the ICAANE conference at Ludwig Maximillians University by 10:30. After the plenary sessions I took my suitcase and carry-on the three blocks south to the Leonardo before the 3 pm check-in time. I asked if there was a place I could put my bags and they told me my room was waiting and handed me the keycard. I had a much needed hot shower and was refreshed to attend the evening reception at the Museum of Classical Sculpture four blocks west that evening. The central location of the hotel is a key factor.
The pleasant staff is a further asset. I asked the desk clerk where to go to eat local German fare. She directed me to a place up the street where I ate twice: first cheese spaetzle, and second, snitzel. Food options are plentiful. The donner kebap shop two blocks north was my frequent haunt (3x) as it kept me on budget for lunches. The many Asian food places would have been a stop if my wife was travelling with me.
On Saturday, my last day, I decided to ditch the conference and see museums. I walked to the Egyptian Musem and then finally realized that the #100 bus that stopped just 100 feet from the hotel connected me to all the places I wanted to see and would take me to the Central Bus station where I could catch my return bus to the airport.

Munich is very busy at Christmastime and it was difficult to find a reasonable hotel close to the centre, so after searching we found The Leonardo Boutique Hotel thru ebookers. It is situated about 10-15mins easy walk from the centre of Munich so it was suitable for our needs. The receptionists and staff were faultless and spoke probably better english than us. We had arrived early from the UK, but the staff were really happy to accomodate an early check in.

The rooms were not huge!, but for the two of us it was perfect, twin full sized beds, clean and the room was well organised.

There are many good restaurants within a short distance, there's even an Thai below the hotel, but best of all there is a beautiful fresh bakery accross the road.

Great Location, Amazing City Break

The staff were so helpful and answered every question that a person that suffers with anxiety could have. We were checked in early without hesitation. Our only issue was that the room was the out building down the side alley, the room was reasonable but was slightly noisy. My partner sleeps like a log however I could hear rubbish trucks and building works going on at 8am. Although annoying, this was not a major issue. I would highly recommend this hotel as is only 15 mins from town centre, IDEAL! We had an amazing trip and would soon come back. If you are looking for breakfast when staying we would highly recommend the bakery opposite, friendly staff, great food.

Avoid this hotel

Avoid this hotel if possible. There was ongoing construction work that started very early on a Saturday morning. The hotel clearly knew about it and provided ear-plugs for free, however the drilling was extremely laud and the hotel should not have accepted any bookings for the 1st floor. The drilling was so close to our room that it even made the furniture vibrate. Overall the hotel is decent but our experience was totally unacceptable for the price paid. We had two rooms booked and only one was on the 1st floor, the people staying on the 4th floor were OK – so only book this hotel if you’re feeling lucky or request a room on a higher floor.

Leonardo Boutique Hotel was a great place to stay. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and everything was very clean. Our only issue was that we had no air conditioning at the end of May. They do not turn on the air until June apparently, but it was 80 degrees outside. That was a bit frustrating. Other than that the location was close to many restaurants in what seemed like a young part of town. I would recommend.

Leonardo Boutique Hotel

Hotel is ok at best. As in previous reviews the walls seem to be paper thin so you can hear everything going on in the place. They do provide earplugs on arrival so they are aware of the issue but do no more than this to resolve it. There was a gap under the bottom of my door which also doesn't help re the noise issue. When I was there there was a mini heatwave in Munich. Great!, I hear you say but the air conditioning unit in my room was broken. I complained at reception and was told that they had a technician but it would be at least a week before it was fixed and that the air con in the whole of the second floor was bust. I was only there for four days so she was basically telling me it was not going to be repaired. The rooms have individual air con units so how they have let the whole of the second floors units fall into disrepair I don't know. The girl on reception said that she would put a fan in my room to help but that never appeared. The only fortunate thing was that the temperature dropped a little on the second and third day which made it bearable but the first night it was uncomfortable to say the least. I didn't have the breakfast so can't comment about it but my friends did and while the didn't praise it they didn't complain either. I see that they have had reviews like this for a while. It have done nothing to facelift the building, it could certainly be doing with it. Apart from that the staff were friendly and it is right in the university area of the city.

Good location within walking distance of centre

Quite a nice hotel in a central location within easy walking distance of Odeonsplatz, the Residenz and Marienplatz. Good bus and U-bann links close by. The hotel has been modernised and given a 'boutique' style makeover.

Our room was good and spacious, nicely decorated, with good beds. The bathroom was similarly decorated with modern fittings but there was just an old fashioned bath with shower above. The bath ledge was quite high so a bit tricky for less mobile people to get and out.

As a central hotel the location has plusses and minuses. For us, it was great that the location is in easy walking distance of central Munich (just a few minutes stroll) and good bus / train links. The downside was a loud church clock chiming every quarter hour and a fairly noisy residential courtyard behind the hotel. To be honest this did not bother us but it might not suit everyone.

There are lots of bars and restaurants nearby but these mainly seem to cater to students rather than fine dining - but not a problem given proximity to city centre.

Very bad sleep and shower experience.

Pros: amazing staff in the front desk, specially the Croatian lady, breakfast was very nice reasonably priced at 13€ per person and its excellent location close to downtown and plenty of restaurants around.
Cons: it was the worst bathroom/shower experience in a hotel, the air conditioning was not working therefor we had to open the windows and try to sleep with the noise, housekeepers in the morning banging the other room doors and the quality of the bed is not worth 100€ per night.

Nice Hotel

Dainty hotel decorated in deep purple with a curious disco ball, and we enjoyed our stay. They have a bar at the reception desk, which is helpful since there are no markets open in the evening nearby. It's pretty loud on the street, but they provide earplugs. And there are several nice places to eat and have a drink nearby. It's centrally located and we walked most of the city right out the door. Everyone was friendly. They put effort into the breakfast and it's really pretty good.

fabric needs a little care

I've stayed in other Leonardo Hotels and have always been pleased. This hotel was fine and ok for the price but I was a little disappointed as I don't think the premises lived up to the brand's usual standards.
The WC and shower are pretty small and all separate from the sink - this is just a design that I don't like so I got over it. But water from the shower did leak into the main room quite a bit.
One half of the bed was broken or something, and was quite slanted and low.
Also- the walls are quite thin. You will hear people talking, moving and TVs in the next room pretty distinctly, so just home that your neighbours have similar schedules to yours!
Very friendly and helpful staff, however.

excellent location,bad sound isolation,small rooms

it is excellently located in Schwabing, which is next to the university buildings in the centre of the city. however the building is very old, very this walls, neighbours are almost literally part of your room. they give you ear plus though lol. the rooms are very small, especially the ones not overlooking the street and the bathrooms are tiny too, and closed by sliding glass doors which provide no isolation at all, quite transparent too. there was mould on the windows. hotel staff are very pleasant but the building is too old and renovations are purely cosmetic.
