I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, everything was exceptional.

The location is outstanding—within easy walking distance of Palermo’s historic center, just a few blocks from the Cathedral of Palermo, and surrounded by wonderful restaurants, shops, and sightseeing opportunities. It made exploring the city incredibly convenient.

Our room was spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully appointed with everything we needed. We stayed in a Quattro room with my mother, husband, and daughter, and there was plenty of space for all of us to relax comfortably.

Breakfast was included and was a highlight of each morning. The selection was extensive, high quality, and featured a wonderful variety of traditional Italian breakfast offerings. It was the perfect way to start every day.

What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the hospitality. The staff consistently went above and beyond to make our stay seamless. They helped arrange transportation to the beach, provided towels and water bottles whenever we needed them, assisted with shipping a package without hesitation, and handled restaurant reservations with ease. No request was ever too much trouble.

The warmth, professionalism, and genuine care shown by every member of the staff made this trip truly special. They played a huge role in making our family vacation perfect.

If you’re looking for a hotel that is comfortable, and welcominf stay here!

My husband and I are blown away by the level of care and service at Porta di Castro. The breakfast here every morning is great (it’s impossible to leave here hungry) and they were so helpful with everything we asked about. The hotel is well located to several attractions here in Palermo, it really is a must stay. We would come back to stay here if our future journeys bring us back to Palermo. Just, wow!

The reviews are quite strong for this property, and they don't even do it justice. This place, the people, service and overall vibe is just phenomenal. Yes, the breakfast is to die for, yes, the service is top notch, but the decor, age and fact that the hotel is an old church cannot be experienced ANYWHERE else. We enjoyed relaxing massages, chilled in the pool and jacuzzi, and simply took in everything Porta di Castro had to offer. The location is prime as well. Its not on a main avenue but close enough to the action that its not a problem - in fact its preferred.

We definitely were lucky in finding and choosing Porta di Castro. Thanks for the great memories, in a gem of city.

It is in the hustle and bustle of Palermo. Convenient for walking to historic sites. The carpet in the room could have used a good cleaning but everything else was very clean and nice.

Porta di Castro is a nice but compact hotel situated near Palazzo dei Normanni and the cathedral, so location-wise it was great for walking to the historic center of Palermo. My economy room was quite pokey with low ceiling beams you could hit your head on, and a toilet not far from the bed with no proper door, so this room may not be ideal for couples...
The staff were friendly and helpful, and they definitely didn't hold back on the breakfast.
I enjoyed making use of the outdoor pool and jacuzzi area which is free to use, although the indoor spa and pool comes at an extra cost.

Best service I have ever received in a hotel. They literally could not do enough, from the very beginning when the reception lady explained where everything was both in the hotel and in Paloma through to breakfast each day where they instantly have a solution for our one gluten-free in the party and one vegetarian.
Fantastic location, just round the corner from the beautiful Palazzo Reale and the Duomo, and also right beside a train station to go directly into the airport
Swimming pool was a huge bonus too even if it was freezing! Great to be able to lay outside in the Sun or shade and chill for awhile.

Beautiful property that has been handed down through generations. Sarah greeted us in the street to help us find parking for our car. The quickly brought luggage to our room, checked us in and gave us some wine and a snack. So very welcoming after a long travel day. Restaurant recommendations were great! Breakfast was a FEAST - be prepared. Central location so we could walk everywhere we wanted. The owner helped us with our bags and car. They were so friendly and inviting. I’d highly recommend it!

I booked this hotel after reading the positive reviews. I was going to book another hotel instead, but went against my gut and decided to stay there. They were very accommodating- they picked us up at the airport at 1AM and offered a spa credit to each of us because we could not make it the first night of our stay. The hotel staff were also very helpful. The breakfast was good. The main thing we did not like was the cleanliness and the presentation of the room. The bathroom and shower floor were made of a type of concrete- which looks unique and pretty cool, except it was dirty. I used a towel to wipe waster off the ground and the towel was dirty on the side used to clean the water up. The shower had hairs on the wall and on the ground on a weird rock ornament that sat in the shower. The room had a large main bed, and two single beds. That’s great, except they made the room look more like a hostel than a hotel. The bedding looked cheap and was an ugly burgundy color. The room also had a cheap looking piece of carpet that looked dirty and was crooked under the legs of the beds. The mini fridge was also not even under the desk, and looked cheap. We had a small space outside with a table and chairs that had four walls around and didn’t offer any type of view. There was a random broom thrown in one of the corners of the area. After seeing the hairs in the shower and the other mentioned issues, we decided to book another hotel because we could not get a refund.

We were highly disappointed with this hotel. Our room was located in the attic, and unless you’re under 5'4\", you’ll constantly be bumping your head due to the sloped ceiling and lack of headroom. The bed and pillows were extremely hard and uncomfortable.

I was traveling with my sister, and to our surprise, there was no bathroom door — meaning one of us had to leave the room whenever the other needed to shower or use the toilet. After we complained, they eventually gave us a makeshift wooden divider, but that’s not what was advertised on Hotels.com.

The room was poorly maintained: the paint was peeling, an electrical outlet in the hallway was completely open (a serious safety hazard), and the refrigerator didn’t work. Cleanliness was lacking throughout. The “shampoo” came in tiny ketchup-style packets, the towels were rough and old, and there were no towel bars in the bathroom. The window in the room was an 8\" porthole (see photo)

Breakfast was mediocre at best — stale pastries and little variety. Overall, this property does not match its online description and needs significant improvement in comfort, safety, and maintenance.

The staff at this hotel were excellent! They proactively engaged with me before the trip to ensure everything was in order and to see if I needed any help. They answered all my questions prior to arrival and they arranged airport transportation after our stay. They were also attentive offering water to us whenever we returned (it was very hot in Palermo during our stay). The restaurant they recommended was excellent mom and pop place (not a tourist trap) about a 10 minute walk.

The room itself was clean, comfortable, and perfect for our family of four. The pictures of the hotel are accurate. The decor was unique, one of a kind. It’s a unique hotel with history, character, and charm. If in Palermo again, this is where we will stay.

This property is wonderful with so much loving attention to detail and decor! Porta de Castro was a wonderful stay. The only thing is if you want quiet, the street it is located on is busy and quite a bit of honking. Didn’t bother me, popped in some ear buds at night. The breakfast and staff were amazing!!! I felt very welcomed and the staff helped me with any questions, plus lots of suggestions on what to do in the areas. Very convenient to walk to almost any place, including the train station.

Great location with really kind & helpful staff! The building is old & beautiful with a great style. Since it’s old it’s not soundproof but the other guests were quiet.

What a breakfast

The hotel was brilliant. They welcomed us with a little snack and a drink. Breakfast was out of this world. Staff were very pleasant and very helpful. Could not have asked for more. Well done you guys.
A lovely hotel very bright and well presented. The only slight downside is the location is a little dirty. However it is close to the attractions like the cathedral i would not walk back in the middle of the night. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
