The restaurant experience was extraordinary, the reception was the most welcoming, the room was modern and clean. I say, if anyone is in the area, recommend to stay at this hotel and dine at Ivan Vautier. It will bring your Normandy experience on the whole new level . The only issue was our room faced the street and it was noisy all night, had to close the window and then it was ok. Highly recommend this hotel and the restaurant.

The location is outside city center. There is a nice free parking. The bathroom is spacious. The mattrass is alittle V shape, the TV screen is small and far. The service is excelent.

While the room itself was pretty nice, the decoration with a lot of taste...., I must say that this hotel falls short of a five-star experience; I would rate it as a three-star establishment, at most.

For example, Although they advertise 24-hour room service, it is nonexistent.

The shower was leaking so significantly that I almost had to turn it off, and the room cleaning was average.

The most disappointing aspect was the self-service breakfast—the food was utterly tasteless and unappetizing. Based on my experience, I will not be booking this hotel again.

The property is located about a 25 minute walk away from Caen city centre. The surrounding area is very quiet and safe with lots of delicious patisseries very close by ( highly recommend trying). The room has everything you need, is very comfortable, clean and air-conditioned.
The hotel has an area for workouts, with 3 pieces of aerobic equipment. This room is not like a normal gym, it is carpeted with chairs and tables in ( presumably for those waiting to use the spa?) with no ac ( that I found). But can easily do a workout in there.
The hotel has private parking.
The hotel offers a buffet breakfast, which has everything youd expect from a continental breakfast. The staff are all lovely and very welcoming. Highly recommend.

The room was amazing. Very comfortable and roomy. Staff was very good. Breakfast is highly recommended - it was a good selection and high quality. My only complaint is that the room had an amazing bathtub but on the two occasions that I tried to take a bath there was only enough hot water for about 4 inches of the bathtub. Pretty disappointing as I'm a real bath person.

We visited the WW1 and WW2 sites and cemeteries in Normandy area. Hotel was conveniently located to the areas we visited. The room was a decent size and well equipped. The hotel and facilities were very clean and well kept. The Michelin rated restaurant in the hotel was a wonderful dining experience. Don’t miss your chance to dine in an excellent environment. Book your reservation when you check in. I recommend “la selection de rapas en toute confiance”. An excellent 5 days in Caen.

Lovely hotel with a fantastic restaurant. Stayed one night. Had tasting menu lunch that was paired with different wines. We had an exceptional meal with great service at the table. Breakfast was also a delight. The night watchman even served us a calvados after we returned from the SM Caen match vs St-Etienne at midnight. Highly recommended.

From the moment we arrived the staff was outstanding. Friendly. Accommodating. I made an error in booking and they fixed it even though they didn’t have to. Parking is free and easy. Go to dinner...it's worth every euro

When we first got there we checked in and then wanted to have a drink at the bar. At first it seemed like a one man show, and it took a while, but it worked out fine. The room was nice enough and clean...the shower in our room was different..the hose and shower head were closer to the bathtub faucet, and the easiest way to shower was to sit in the bathtub. Another funny thing is how tall the toilet was, but it was all nice and clean and workable. My favorite part of the stay was our dinner experience. The food is amazing and the wine pairing was perfect.

Ok... but things didn't work as they should

I am a bit disappointed. Not the service you would expect for $200 night. The bath tap was loose, the water was not hot enough so the tub was not usable unless you like a cold bath...
Coffee machine didn't work etc. finally due to covid restrictions and bad organization we could not even access the spa.

I told the staff when leaving and didn't even get an apology just ok I will tell maintenance

We stopped here after a long day in Normandy. Relieved that there was parking. Walked in and got our room very quickly. Staff was super nice and spoke English. Room was very spacious, especially for European rooms. Bathroom was nice. I would stay here again.

Quaint rooms but nice sized and comfortable. Robes and slippers included. Nice, helpful staff. Restaurant is waaayyy expensive so we ate elsewhere. Not exactly close to center of town. It’s a good 25 min walk..up and down hills. Surrounding area is nice..we didn’t love Caen dispute all the hype. I would pass Caen but if you’re there..this hotel is nice and livable.

It was a nice stay, the breakfast at 15 EUR per person was a bit of a rip off, it was bread, pastries (normal European breakfast) but at 15 EUR per person it wasn't exceptional.

The hotel was nearly empty and quiet (which was nice). The beds were clean and comfortable and the location was easy to get to. Parking was simple.

The only negative thing I have to say is that we left the do not disturb sign on the door for our entire stay and each day the maid ignored it and came into the room to find my finance still asleep. That was frustrating because my finance wasn't feeling well and wanted to sleep in but she was awoke each day by the maid.

There isn't all that much around the hotel in terms of food/drink so each day we drove about 5-8 minutes into the city center to get food/coffee and we did Uber Eats food to the hotel since there was not room service.

Because the hotel restaurant was empty we didn't give it a try for dinner or lunch but the menu did look good.

First impressions were very good. But then the a/c stopped working and the wi if became no longer available. The place was under-staffed. The young lady on the desk on our last morning was answering the phone and dealing with multiple other issues, and had no backup. So it took some time to check out.

The room was small. An architectural obstruction in the room meant movement in the room was difficult. We were in constant danger of bumping our heads. Access to one of the windows was not favourable as a result. When reported to the receptionist at check out, we were told basically that we got what we paid for (we had booked a basic room). Difficult to understand why it is rated as a 5* hotel.

Normandy hotel

The hotel room was clean and comfortable with good bed. It was somewhat tight but typical for hotels in Europe. Only complaints were that it was very dark even with all of the lights on and the bathroom door wouldn't stay closed. It is not in the center of town so all restaurants are a taxi or car ride. Good location for trips to beaches, museums, and surrounding sights. Dinner restaurant is high end with good quality but overpriced.

Overall my experience was pretty good. Hotel staff were nice, however because the bed was so uncomfortable it made the stay a lot less enjoyable as I was not able relax.

I chose the hotel because it was more on the outskirts of Caen and closer to my day trip plans, however there were almost no restaurants within walking distance making a two night stay less pleasant. Anything more than a few nights would be too much just due to the location.

I very much enjoyed my meal at the hotel restaurant upon my arrival and would recommend to eat there once as it is a Michelin Star restaurant.

We enjoyed our stay at Ivan Vautier in Caen. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very large (for French standards), nice bathroom and large bed. There is also a spa onsite (we didn't use it). We chose this hotel for location and free parking.

The hotel location is a little unexpected - in a residential area, but it was the end of our trip, so it wasn't a problem. On the positive side, it did mean free parking. The rooms are modern, clean, and very comfortable. The Michelin Star restaurant is admittedly expensive, but quality does not come cheap. The whole dining experience is excellent, and worth the money.

My only complaint was with regard to the spa (hot tub, Turkish bath). The hotel charges 50 Euros per person, which seems exorbitant.

We did a one night stopover in Caen. The main attraction to stay at the hotel was the restaurant, which served excellent food and was worth one Michelin Star! The chef and all staff were very welcoming. The Hotel is modern and clean, but the colour scheme in the rooms made it very dark. The location is on the outskirts, but there is a public bus just outside.

On the positive side the hotel was in good condition. But the hotel was not in a tourist area and generally far from restaurants and sights. The room we were in was on the top floor and the eaves significantly reduced the usable space. We were told there would be a sofa, but there was none and no room for one. The room was also quite dark with poor lighting. The hotel staff seemed to leave in the evening and did not know much about restaurants or have much other information for us.

They did have a parking lot and a fancy restaurant for lunch or dinner.

We had a brief but lovely stay here. The service is excellent, and the restaurant is a real experience. Dinner was very much the highlight. Our room was clean with modern furnishings, but we had difficulty getting the air-conditioner to work - staff promptly shifted us to another room with better air-conditioning, which was appreciated.

Having deliberated over the menu for some time, I chose the sole dish only to be informed that it was not available. Why on earth in a Michelin starred restaurant was't I told at the outset? We were hurried through the meal with the dessert arriving 2 minutes after the main course. \"Please order your dessert at the start as it will be carefully prepared for you\". Rubbish. Our table was obviously targeted for an extra cover. No hot water in the morning. Breakfast extortion,nothing warm except for a DIY boiled egg.

The hotel was difficult to find being a brisk 35 minute walk from Caen centre when we did find it we negotiated a very narrow entrance to the car park. The young man on reception spoke little or no English (not a major problem as we both speak reasonable French - but not good for non-French speakers of which there were 2 in reception). He showed us to our 'deLuxe' room without offering to help with our bags (husband 82 with mobility & visual problems, me 70). The room was at the front on the first floor overlooking the very busy road. The lighting was very poor and it was impossible to read with the light given by the bedside lamps. The mini-bar was not refrigerated and not replaced or repaired during our 3 night stay. The un-locking mechanism on the safe was faulty & we waited 20 mins for reception to get a key for us. The food prices were extortionate and not good value for money. I am happy to pay high prices for high quality - here that was not possible. The bed was very very hard, the pillows cheap and as for the toiletries...well I have seen better quality ones in a Campanile and that was many years ago! No face flannels, exceedingly skimpy bath towels, only two coffee pods & 2 teabags and the most horrendous plastic containers of some substance to add to tea or coffee. 5* hotel? I don't think so! We have stayed in hotels of all grades including a number of luxury ones but the Ivan Vautier has got to be the very worst we have ever experienced.

Great for couples.

We would love the chance to stop again. The rooms have a wow factor the shower was amazing. Just ashame we stopped on a Sunday as the restaurant was closed. Overall a fantastic stay and really helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious .

The hotel has many modern amenities not always present in France (for example ac, large bathroom) but was poorly run - no shampoo, no night desk (hence you had to make an international phone call to be let in to the hotel after 10 pm) and is relatively charmless. The staff was pleasant enough, just not especially competent. That said, Caen is a reasonable place to stay when exploring Normandy and the restaurant was quite, quite good.

Disappointing experience.

The reasons where:
First, I always book hotels with a fittnes room as part of my \"need to\" list. The fitness room in this hotel was \"unfortunately\" under renovation for 2 months and therefore not available. It was not mentioned anywhere when booking the hotel and the hotel staff was simply indifferent to the lack of fitness room.

Secondly, the alleged SPA which was also part of the reason we booked this hotel, was also a disappointment. It was simply a SPA in a room and a sauna. Furthermore, the use required additional payment which would have been acceptable if it was an inviting experience.

Thirdly, the breakfast was nowhere near a 5* star experience. It should be somewhere between 3 to 4 stars. The food was reasonable enough but there was a very limited choice of foods. (no vegetables, no eggs, almost no fruit, etc.)

In addition, we dined at the Michelin restaurant. The restaurant was not close to being at the level of a Michelin restaturant except for the price. Several dishes were uninteresting without much flavour.
Since the waiter spoke no English whatsoever we did get presentation of the dishes and wine and several times we were not served wine before the dish.

All in all a disappointing visit to an alleged 5 star hotel.

Luckily Normandy is a very nice place and certainly worth the visit.

Mooi hotel met eigen parkeergelegenheid. De kamer en badkamer waren heel ruim en schoon. Gegeten in het sterrenrestaurant. Het was op dat moment heerlijk weer, dus lekker buiten kunnen zitten.

Het ontbijt viel een beetje tegen. De eerste ochtend was het wel goed maar tijdens de tweede ochtend werd er slecht aangevuld, terwijl het toen wel druk was met gasten.

Bon accueil mais la personne ne parlait pas bien français. Peu de monde, confortable, agréable.

Das Restaurant war bei der Ankunft geschlossen, es gab nur Getränke.

Das „Nicht Stören“ Schild wird auf mehrere Arten ignoriert:

Tag 1: trotz des Schildes wird angerufen, ob man Service benötigt. Ist ja nett gemeint, aber wenn ich von einem Nachtdienst komme nicht zielführend.

Tag 2: ich war nicht im Zimmer, trotzdem wurde es gemacht trotz „Nicht Stören“ Schild

Whirlpool / Spa ist nur gegen Aufpreis erhältlich (18€ für 1 Stunde)

Das Frühstück war sehr gut und vielfältig.
