The room was quite small, with very little unpacking space (no drawers), so we largely lived out of our suitcases for the three days we were there.
We came back in the middle of the first day to find the doors were locked: a sign on the door told us that access was via reception of the hotel next door. On making our way through the dimly-lit ground floor public areas, we discovered no electricity anywhere in the hotel, so of course, the lift was out of order. Using the stairs wasn't a problem for us, but it would have been for someone with disabilities or with small children. Possibly this was due to a local issue, but we never found out. Though we didn't have any repeat of the power problem, we did come back to find the front doors locked a second time, with reception in the dark and unstaffed. In general, there was a feeling that it was all very Spartan and understaffed.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this hotel. Upon arrival, I was immediately charged for breakfast—despite not having eaten it and explicitly stating that I did not want it. When I raised the issue via email, I received no response. Furthermore, despite requesting a meeting with the manager, I never heard back, and no explanation was provided. The receptionist failed to understand the issue entirely.
At check-out, I had to prove that I had not consumed any breakfast during my stay and that my credit card had been charged without authorization. The level of negligence and lack of accountability was astonishing.
Additionally, access to the hotel in the evening is only possible through the nearby Mercure Hotel, which is not clearly communicated. When I inquired at reception about whether the bar was open, I was met with a shockingly rude response. Instead of a courteous answer, I was told that if I didn’t like it, I could go into town and find a bar myself if I wanted a soft drink.

Price was right. Off season. Very small room with two twin beds. Sufficient to sleep in. Not sufficient for sitting in. Nice lobby with shared space with Mercure hotel. Amy was super helpful. There is parking under the hotel so very convenient but its expensive, the spaces are small and we couldn't open the car boot fully with the low ceiling in parts of the car park.

Location is great and staff were friendly... but... room small and very tired. Bathroom smelt of pooling water. Not enough towels. The a/c was set by the hotel at 19 degrees. Freezing cold, but somehow the bed was hot. Didn't sleep well. Breakfast was OK. However the bar!! Saturday night we went out to eat, came back at 8:40, bar closed, despite saying open until 10:30. The bar served Ibis and Mercure. Who closes the bar at 840 on a Saturday?!

Older hotel in a fabulous location and shares a bar space with Mercure hotel next door. So convenient and staff were really helpful. Quiet too so easy to get a good sleep.

The location is great being in the centre of Caen near pubs and restaurants. They have their own car park under ground which was convenient and useful. Our room looked like it was suitable with wide doors and a wet bathroom. I'm not really a fan of wet rooms but it was fine for one night. Reception spoke very good English and were pleasant and helpful. i5 minutes from the ferry to Portsmouth.

Good - but shower pressure is poor for most
Very friendly and very helpful staff. The only really bad bit was that shower was more like a drizzle. It was also thus unresponsive...very cold for very long while, before you over control it to very hot. Other guests reported similar experiences. No hotel restaurant was available for dinner but there are very good restaurants close by - but book early. Breakfast was OK although there was no bacon on French bank holiday.

After a day of traveling from Tilburg it was so nice to check into the Ibis Caen Centre.

We stayed here as a base for touring the D Day Beaches. Perfectly located for this purpose and also the centre of Caen. The hotel was clean although general decoration was a little tired. (Also a strange smell in reception). Breakfast was reasonable but restaurant wasn't open every night of our stay. This wasn't a problem for us but could have been for others as the surrounding restaurants were very busy and you struggled to get a table if hadn't booked. Overall a pleasant stay

This is a standard ibis, i.e., the room has modern furniture, is reasonably comfortable, not very large. The only inconvenience for me was that there was no electric kettle in the room, so no chance of heating water for coffee or tea, and also no fridge. But the room had air-conditioning, which was nice since the days of my stay were hot and humid.

We were an overnight only en route to the Caen ferry port, so Ibis in the town centre sounded great. Reception was friendly and the hotel was clean, if very functional - not attractive at all. The room was very small, but the bed was comfortable and quit big with good linen. The bathroom was also functional and big enough with a good walk in shower. As always the towels were tiny and only one each was provided. When asked the reception happily gave us extra ones.
On the whole such a hotel is what it is and it was clean, central with its own secure car park. The car park is always a bonus when you have a car full of your stuff.
We usually go out to eat, looking for a local restaurant serving local dishes. Where we were in the town there was nothing like that that we could find. With the ferry port so far from the town centre I don't think we will repeat the stay in Caen centre.

A really good hotel to choose! We were so pleased. The hotel is just on the central square 'Place Courtonne' by the canal and lots of restaurants and shops - it has a bar, a restaurant and underground car park at 10EUR a night. Very friendly helpful staff and all is very well laid out. We would definitely come back to this Ibis on another Normandy trip. The bed is very large, tv is large, there are electric points, good sized window. The only thing we might bring another time is a travel kettle (as I am British I like a cup of tea!). There is an enormous market every Sunday which is a must-see. Our holiday was really great because this hotel was so nice. GRAND merci!

We loved our stay! The hotel was very comfortable and clean and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The bar was welcoming and friendly. It was in a lovely location close to the harbour and lots of shops, bars, restaurants and places to visit. We give it top marks.

Very helpful staff in a lovely area of the city. Secure parking for guests. Only minor gripe is that the bed, whilst good & big, is a little close to one wall, resulting in a few stubbed toes. But that is more my problem than the hotels.

All you want for a brief stay in Caen
A clean and presentable chain hotel in a great location to visit the D-day beaches and tour Normandy. The staff are pleasant and speak reasonable English if your French is not up to scratch. The attached restaurant is acceptable but it's just a 5 minute walk to the older part of Caen where you can find a range of good places to eat.
