Lovely hotel convenient for the centre of Caen, restuarants and transport links. Staff were really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was excellent. Our room was lovely and comfortable. Minor issue - the ambient lighting in the room was great but we could have done with some brighter lighting as well, as sometimes it was a bit dark. Excellent stay though.

Inadequate pre advice

Check in was quick and informative. All the information we needed was provided. Breakfast was good with plenth of choice.
The room was clean and comfortable.
Location wSvery good with restaurants and bars close at hand.
My big gripe is about the parking arrangements. I was advised that i could not book before arrival but clear dorections were provided. What was not advised was the fact that headroom in the underground car park was restricted to 2metres, and there was no signage at the entrance. My car with roof box is 2.2m. Once down the ramp and having scraped the top of the box i was obliged to remove the box before i could go further. I had to leave the car park, refit the box, and park in an unsecured public park. Response at reception was less than helpful.

First room had a horrible smell. Asked to move and was out in a room with lots of nicks and scratches on walls. And was changed from a room with a canal view, which I requested, to one with no view at all. Front desk staff came off as extremely put out to answer questions and address the horrible smell in the room.

Our room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast buffet was better than any we have ever seen. Think of a breakfast food you would like--it was there; eggs, toast, pastry, bacon, ham, cereal, yogurt, two kinds of butter, several kinds of fruit, and machines that offered a full range of coffee types. Best of all, however, was the helpfulness of the staff. They greeted us warmly when we checked in and directed out tour guide into the dining room to meet us. We asked where we might find a pharmacy to by some band-aids, and they went into the back room and brought us enough that we didn't need to buy any.

Comfortable hotel very close to the centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking available in hotel (€14) but for free in evenings on nearby quayside. Free WiFi fast and reliable (84Mb). Excellent breakfast(€21 full or €10 express formula).
Surprised by size and facilities of Caen - usually bypass on way to and from Ouistreham. Definitely worth a visit. Loads of restaurants and bars near the hotel with a lively vibe in the evening.

What a beautiful Hotel... lovely size room, comfortable bed, and all spotlessly clean. Secure parking was nice, albeit €14 and a little tight to navigate, especially with a bike rack. If it had been any busier we probably wouldn't have got a space as its shared with the Ibis next door. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The staff didn't appear talkative or too happy - maybe they don't like late arrivals but hey. Overall a good stay, and the bonus was a late night drink on the quay opposite

The designer sink did not drain properly. My back hurt after sleeping on the bed. There was tea and coffee in the room but no milk, and had to wait a while at reception to get some as there was only one person on the desk.

It was located heart of Caen. They had their own parking which you need. Parking on the street is limited.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and had good upscale variety. It is far better then the typical continental breakfast in the USA.
The room was comfortable and the mattress was firm and comfortable. Had a good shower.

No frills, but no complaints.

This is a nice, basic hotel in Caen. The rooms are small, but clean. The location is great - right across the street from the Sunday market and lots of restaurants, and it’s an easy walk to the castle.

Exceptional, most helpful courteous staff. Great location within minutes of restaurants, sites, shops. Worth the extra $$ to stay in privilege room. Only negative comment is against hotels.com - on the site it says privilege rooms have a harbor view which isn’t true. Only standard rooms have harbor view. Still worth the $ for the larger room and bed, complimentary mini fridge, robe and slippers. Most pleasant stay.

Nice place in the midst of Caen!

Located on the river front, the Mercure is in a good location. We parked in their underground parking lot which was easy to access and safe. Our suite room was located at the end of a long hallway. While spacious, the room lacked some functionality such as the thermostat did not work which made the room feel stuffy, it was dimly lit and there were only 2 electrical plugs to charge our phones. The king sized bed and the sofa bed were not that comfortable. However, the breakfast was tasty and the food bar offered many different selections. Staff were friendly and helpful!

We walked out and saw the city on foot from this location. Friendly staff and breakfast is included and available till noon. Adequate room, clean bath with shower, quiet after midnight. What more can you ask for $ 120.00 Total.

Nice chain hotel in center Caen. Easy parking (extra payment), good breakfast and modern showers. Changing some of the old furniture would uplift the rooms. It was a good base to explore Bayeux and the landing beaches a longer drive to Mont-Saint-Michel.

This is the second time we have stayed at Mecure Port du Plaissance Caen. Having on this occasion stayed for 4 days. The hotel is very comfortable and clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and is centrally located adjacent to the marina for visiting the area. Would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel to other visitors.

Good location with an amazing lounge bartender

The Lounge and the wonderful night time bartender were the highlights as we laughed and shared stories. The room itself is definitely not worth a four star rating and felt like a dark cave. The staff are helpful, the room was clean, and the location was good. Nice buffet breakfast. Overall-A three star experience.

Great hotel, but ambivalent customer service.

We had a confirmed reservation for a room with a king bed. When we checked in, we were told that Expedia had made a mistake and no king Bed was available. The front desk representative checked with her manager, who didn't want to speak with us. It seemed like they weren't willing to acknowledge that we had a valid complaint or to consider how they could make it up to us. They just wanted to blame Expedia and have is go away. Other than that, GREAT HOTEL!!!

Rooms are well kept and quiet. Easy to sleep. We were on a d day tour so it's a good location to hit all beaches. Dinner can be a challenge for late arrivals, the pubs closed kitchens at 9:00.

The hotel was connected and shared space with an ibis hotel. It seemed that the whole building was ibis quality not mecure. Dissapionted. The breakfast was ok and they are pet friendly. The town is ok during the day but seemed dangerous at night.

Nice clean mercure property. Sundays in town are very very quiet!
If you walk across the marina and head left , you will get to a super modern shopping center.
The market right outside the hotel on Saturdays is wonderful.
