All of the staff were so friendly and helpful. Great breakfast with gluten free options ( rare for france!) secure car park 20 mins from ferry port and 10 mins into town via tram. Good size rooms with fridge incredibly helpful stop off en route home . Definitely recommend

This hotel is a basic minimalist! Rooms had no Coffee, drawers, not even a picture on the walls. Very basic menu and without a reservation you could not eat dinner in the restaurant. Very clean but not near any attractions.

Great overnight stay prior to getting the ferry, staff friendly and helpful. Nice outside pool and sun loungers in garden area, with small football/tennis nets. We didn’t eat here due to visiting Ouistreham and leaving too early in the morning.
Clean and comfortable with a nice modern feel.

Okay hotel BUT restaurant was not good

Check in was good and front desk made reservations for dinner during check-in. When we arrived for dinner we were not acknowledged for 15 minutes and then seated. The dinner was a buffet and there was not a line. No one came to take our drink order or to explain how the buffet choices could be made. We served ourselves and then went to find someone to bring us water to drink. Food was cold and not tasteful. We left. No one came to our table this visit. The restaurant employees were rude and the food was less than mediocre.

Best hotel I have been in..

I don’t normally write reviews however this hotel was the nicest hotel I have stayed in. The walls looked freshly painted in the room and it was very clean everywhere else. The breakfast had a great variety and was loved by the whole family. The pool was so clean. The guy was out cleaning it every morning. Everywhere in the hotel was looked after from what we saw. The staff were lovely and happy to help. Would 100% recommend staying at this hotel.

The room was advertized with air condition. It didn't have any air what so ever.It was hot and the room was on the first floor, noisy environment prevented me from leaving the window open. Also no separte sheets but only one quelt. Had to suffer the whole night, I was able to sleep for only couple of hours waking up by sweat.

Great hotel away from busier city of Caen

Great and modern hotel with all amenities. Very friendly staff, spacious and clean room with big screen TV. Great shower with lots of pressure. Very good breakfast with lots of variety. Nice pool (did not have time to use it). Free parking onsite.

Kind staff, building needs attention

This is the old version of Novotel, not comparable with the newer hotels of this chain (compare this one with the one in Reims, for example, or in Ghent). The pool is very small, so not very safe for social distancing (nobody is controlling the number of people swimming, which is in theory limited to 15). The staff, however, is very good, very kind and professional.

The hotel was too expensive for what it offers with €180 per night including breakfast- rooms are very asphyxiating being very small for a family of four. Rooms were clean but not the restaurant-over three days I noticed insanitary practices such as dirty plates - glasses and the worst of all seeing restaurant staff coughing in the hands right before serving utensils and food to customers- front desk staff were excellent in many ways-for example I called in the middle of the night requesting they adjust the centrally controller air conditioning in the room-the issue was resolved immediately.

Hotel were very friendly and helpful. Stayed 3 nights in order to travel around Normandy. Location is very central for the Beaches, Rouen and Mt. St.Michel. Nearby is a petrol station, Carrefour and a couple of average restaurants. Food in the hotel was better and it does have a pool which I am sure would be great in the summer.

Average hotel. Cleanliness and check-in were negatives. It appeared the toiletries were from the person before (at least one item half-full). Room that was initially given was one size smaller than booked so had to go back down to change. Breakfast service was excellent, breakfast offerings were average.

Had to book in to the hotel and as we had made better time that expected. Booking was easy, relatively cheap and the welcome was warm and professional. Room was great and very comfy. Massive tv, perhaps a little too big. Overall a very pleasant stay for its purpose

Lovely hotel but postcode on booking led us to wrong part of town that was all closed due to roadworks, but luckily SatNav had local hotels listed so we found it that way. Check-in was from 12pm & we arrived at 2pm ish only to find that the room wasn't ready yet, but given free drink at bar whilst we waited. Restaurant menu quite limited for the unrefined palate - only a couple of simple meals. Other than that, no complaints. Lovely staff, amount of different food on offer for breakfast was amazing. Nice heated pool.

This Novotel is clean, modern, and safe with spacious rooms, lots of amenities, and very friendly staff. The lobby is bright, airy, and welcoming as are the bar and breakfast dining area. The drinks and food menu are adequate for a late drink or simple dinner, and the breakfast buffet also offers healthy food options. Ample parking and good connections to the main traffic arteries.

I booked this hotel for a one night stay on the way to Cherbourg and the frrry back home to Ireland. We were very pleasantly surprised by the facilities (room and breakfast were excellent), although we had stayed at a Novotel at Poitiers in the past and should have known the hotel was going to be good going on this experience. Reception and restaurant staff were very pleasant and everything else was top rate.

Stayed with family during our travels to France. Great location about 15 minutes from ferry terminal.
Staff were all friendly and professional and spoke English when we were struggling with our French. Rooms were spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds and good showers we requested adjacent rooms and were accommodated.
Hotel bar was lovely, comfortable seating and well stocked.
Breakfast buffet was plentiful and varied and offered hot food, cold buffet, fresh bread and pasties as we as assorted hot and cold drinks.
Big plus was late check out which allowed us time to use hotels outdoor pool and seating area and showering before going on our travels. Would highly recommend hotel.

Staff issues/general treatment

Staff ignored us at bar for 15 mins whilst they sat round a table talking to each other. They looked up several times and saw us waiting. I also asked whether the bar was actually open.

Additionally when we had dinner in the hotel it was near impossible to get any service. We ordered fine but after that we had to battle to get anyone’s attention. Further about an hour into our meal a coach party turned up for their booking and the organiser decided the best place to shout her instructions was right behind me, we were sat in the middle of the restaurant. I went to the nearest waitress and asked her to move the lady to a more appropriate place, I.e. reception and was totally ignored.

In our room we had a bottle of water and a note saying that it was free and if we needed anymore then they would be free also. However when we asked for additional waters the hotel charged us and refused to adhere to the note in our room.

Nice hotel and room but staff were awful.

Decent with what one would need

FRom the outside, it looks old and downtrodden. But the interior has been renovated. Rooms are nice and comfy. Not sure it competes with other four-star hotels I stayed at (this one is ****) or even some of the *** hotels. However front desk was quite welcoming. Restaurant staff was mostly going through the motions during breakfast. That service was quite average. For a **** one might expect a slightly better service. But for one night, it was good. Location is average but great for me as I had a meeting at the hospital right across from there. So, it worked out fine. Overall, a decent hotel, just about 5-10 minutes (at most) from the city center and less than 1/2 hour from the Normandy beaches. Pillows seemed to be appreciated by customers, but they do not work for me. Not great for optimal neck alignment.

We had a family room, a double and 2 made up beds for the children aged 10 and 12. The room was clean and an excellent standard. The food in the restaurant was also lovely however the service was poor. They were very busy though! It's a shame as I would have given this hotel 5 out of 5 had it not been for our dinner experience. There is a pool but my daughter would not go in as it was freezing,

Great stop over for the ferry

Fantastic hotel near to the Brittany Ferries port had everything a family needs. Lovely modern room with huge TV, tea and coffee plus bottled water, and wonderful drench shower. The breakfast was amazing and so worth the extra you pay for it. Swimming pool a huge bonus after a long hot drive from the south. Restaurant/bar is good although a little pricey.

Perfect for an early morning ferry

This hotel has recently been updated in both the communal and private areas. It's always been clean and comfortable and this new update brings a welcome change of colour and adds atmosphere to the hotel. Great staff and a great position in Caen means you can dip into the centre for a bite to eat whilst also being well positioned for a 15 min run to the ferry port ( if you catch that early departure traffic is very light)

Arrived at 10pm after a ferry journey to a very friendly welcone and gifts for our two children. Furnished with all the information required immediately.
The room was neat and clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower was excellent.
Absolutely superb breakfast the next day.
Excellent stopover, perfect before another day's travelling. Tbe staff very extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel is very family orientated.

We got nothing but attitude here

We did not get to stay. There was a mix up with our reservation. The hotel desk staff very curtly told us that our reservation was for the previous night and we were charged for that night. We had made the reservation through hotels.com and were told to call them. We sat in the lobby and used our cell phones to try to find out what had happened while the desk staff stood there and stared at us. They never offered to help, let us use a desk phone, ask us if we needed anything, nothing! Hospitality here was non existent. The customer service rep on the other hand was wonderful! He kept me on the line and did his best to remedy the situation with the same rude desk staff and he also go no where with them. After all was said and done, we decided not to stay at the property simply because of the rudeness of the desk staff. Beware....the photo depicting the hotel is NOT a photo of that hotel. The outside looks like an old stucco building and the front walk smells very strongly of cat urine.
