Staff is wonderful and kind, very accommodating. We stayed here with a lot of family members for our wedding, we got a beautiful spacious suite with the best courtyard views. The rooms are so beautifully designed, the whole villa is just dreamy and true Tuscany. Breakfast is amazing with so many options and so fresh, so delicious! Service is great too. Overall cannot beat the location. We also held our wedding reception dinner here and the food and service and spaces we used were amazing. They even gave us complimentary bottle of champagne and homemade cookies in our room with a lovely note. Overall, we hope to be back!

Peaceful retreat

We stayed in the apartment. Which is a short walk from the main building, between the olive grove and vineyard. It was so peaceful. We opened the window in the morning to watch deer grazing, and sneaking into the vineyard. The breakfast buffet has a great selection. With no car, a taxi into Florence is about 25e. Taking the bus is a great option but it doesn't run on Sunday. The Villa has the nicest bathrobes you'll find. Service is outstanding.

It is such a beautiful property and our apartment was clean and comfortable. Ate at the lovely restaurant one nigh and had take out the second.

This property was touted as being perfect and a five star resort. It did not have a laundry mat as promised the restaurant was iffy at best, although great service and the singer was fantastic. The air conditioner in the room was so loud and so bad it never got below 80 very unhappy with the property.

Incredible off-season stay. The breakfast each morning was incredible. So much better than any other hotel I’ve stayed at. Fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was amazing. The Villa itself is a renovated Renaissance property and all around are little reminders of its glorious past. We were too early for the pool (starts in June) but I have a feeling that’s why we got such a great deal. The views from the decks are incredible and it’s close to Florence. The roads are windy and narrow, so be careful! But one of the roads down from the Villa revealed a spectacular view of Florence. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. Would gladly return.

The staff at this hotel were excellent, friendly, professional and very helpful.
The location is beautiful.
Parking is easy and convenient.
The breakfast buffet was very good.
The buildings are traditional and charming but the interior decor is over fussy, tired and needs sorting out. We sometimes wondered what the interior design was trying to be, there wasn’t a coherent theme.

Great location and breakfast. Rooms need some renovations but what was really an issue is that the gym, pool and shuttle advertised as amenities all were closed or not available. Also the internet after several stays at the villa has never worked.

Nothing was likable . Worse checking the gentleman gave our key and went on the phone without even explaining anything about where our room is or any information about the property . I was supposed to be in a superior room he gave us the worse room possibly My room was smaller than deluxe

The villa is awesome away from the city. You must have a car to get to town which is not that far. But not walkable at all.
Breakfast wasn’t all that and they charged us for two eggs 12e!!

Can’t say enough about the kindness and helpfulness from the staff there. The property is on top of a large hill and isolated from the downtown area. It’s not walking distance to the main attractions and plan on a taking a taxi if you do not have a rental car. But it’s not an expensive ride, and worth it for the great customer service and relaxing atmosphere at this beautiful hotel. The free breakfast is terrific, they have a fitness center with weights and cardio machines, and the restaurant’s dinner is definitely fine dining. The view from the pool is absolutely beautiful too.

Lovely hotel - quiet and peaceful, with a great pool. We walked to and From Florence city center each day - 30-35 minutes each way. Some of the staff were quite surly/ aggressive/ rude, but most we just lovely and really helpful.

I’m comparing this stay with other stays I had in the beautiful country Italy. The property is ok, it’s clean and well maintained. However it’s way too overpriced. Examples:
Room service fee: 35€ per order
At dinner they charge you a head cover of 5€ per person
Glass of wine (in Italy!!):15€
Very average pasta with veal: 30€

The dinner menu is very very limited and the food not great for Italian standards. The waiter we had didn’t speak a word English which made it very difficult to communicate with.
Also if you have a small child which needs to go to bed before 8pm you’re at the wrong place as the restaurant opens at 7:30pm and they have no flexibility to find a solution for you unless you want to pay 35€ room service fee for a 15€ food order.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place and will not return.

A very disappointing stay. 5 star prices but experience so far from that. Walkway to our room was used as a laundry store and on arrival we were expected to climb over a hedge to get to access our room. Room service charge was extortionate [we didn’t use it] Hot foods for breakfast were cold as the heater was not turned on.
However, the main problem which resulted in us leaving a day early was the appalling behaviour witnessed by a staff member at the pool.

The Villa we stayed at had ants all over the place. They had to come and spray the Villa to kill ants. Breakfast was really bad, not much to chose from. Restaurant had very short menu for dinner. Staff at the front were very nice and friendly.

Lovely hotel. 15-20 min walk into lower part of town where you can get Taxi or 30 min walk to historic town. It’s a steep hill back so a taxi back from the square at the bottom of the hill is 5 euros.

Hotel is very expensive to eat and drink but there are some wonderful places to eat not far in isirito santo 20
Mins walk.

A beautiful place about 1.5miles from downtown Florence. We took a taxi or walked into town at our leisure. Note, it is quite a climb from town to the Villa, but the views from the hills are absolutely worth the walk. Pool, accommodations, breakfast were wonderful.

Over 20years of travelling this was the most horrible experience. The fact that the building and rooms where nice does not compensate comically bad service. In pool bar of 5 star hotel ONE person was cleaning.. cooking.. waitering... servicing towels (which run out). 3 tables LEFT as their food did not arrive in 1.h20min. Breakfeast was a joke took over 1h for coffee. Lunch food was below any standard and nobofy od staff was able to fix the situation regardless of numerous complaints.

We booked this hotel for 5 nights and were not disappointed
Fantastic views , extremely relaxed atmosphere and the staff truly can not do enough for you to make you comfortable...
Our friends stayed in central florence but with the heat ... we were so pleased we stayed here so could have the best of both worlds and have a pool to dip in for few hours!
Would definitely come back to Villa Tolomei ! It is only 5-10 mins into the centre in a taxi approx 16 euros and surrounded by vineyards and amazing views - a special place

A OKAY with ME!

What can I say? You get what you pay for, and we paid quite a bit, but the place is very beautiful. it is situated among the Tuscan landscape. It is gorgeous all around. The WiFi access was phenomenal and the hotel staff did all they could to have us feel at home. I would only give a couple of suggestions: 1. when the guest is present, make it all about the guest. Clear the guest's table first before you clear and empty table. 2. this place probably does this already, but have staff meetings every morning to remind the staff that the guest is super important and as such, never let a moment of kindness pass. Other than that, no complaints! Great beautiful resort.

Good not great. Expectations were high based on pictures, reviews and 5 star rating. But when we got here, we found it to be a little disappointing. No greeting upon arrival. Room very very small, no ac and couldn’t open the windows as the dogs barking and noise from other rooms was too much. Our room backed onto the rooms next doors bathroom, so it meant we woke up every time they turned on the fan. We asked to turn on the ac but they couldn’t do so, despite everyone at breakfast complaining how hot it was.

Dinner at restaurant was solid and would recommend, as well as breakfast.

Overall, a good experience, but not a true 5 star and not worth the extra money.

Not Bad, Not Great

Villa Tolomei is good, not great. Let's call it a 3.5/5, give or take. Staff wasn't overly helpful. We stayed at a similar place in Tuscany that was very well served, and by comparison, this was not. Front desk people were typically camped out in the back office. Only one bellman/porter on staff at a time, it took forever to get anything. A/C was weak and blocked by a window sill. The room was nice and pretty big, so no complaints there. The bartender by the pool was a tad creepy, trying to be Mr. Slick, not realizing how off-putting it was. Buddy, people want to relax, not to hear about the Miami night clubs you've been to. Very buggy, and the front desk had no bug spray to offer besides one of the employee's personal bottles, which she was hesitant to share (and which may have not been real bug spray). Maybe nitpicking on that one, but again, we stayed at a similar place that sprayed semi-weekly for bugs and had spray on hand. Restaurant service was poor. Took forever to get things. At breakfast, a simple coffee took 15 minutes, and the servers were clueless at times. It is doable to walk down to the city in 25ish minutes, which was a nice perk. But you likely need a cab to get back up. This place isn't bad by any means, but for the money, it's just alright.

We had visited the hotel before and decided it would be a lovely place to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary with our daughters. We were not disappointed. the hotel was as good as we remembered and our anniversary meal was made very special by the restaurant staff. overall we all had a great time and would definitely return.

We had a lovely stay at the Villa. The staff, hotel room and venue were fantastic. We were there for a wedding, So a perfect venue for a very romantic occasion. My only complaint was when we first arrived there seem to be an issue with the air conditioning, but that was sorted out quickly. Would definitely recommend for a holiday that includes relaxation. It is a short cab ride to town so if you are looking for central location to activities, this is not it. Overall a great experience.

Wow what a place

We were here for two nights for a wedding. The rooms are large by European standards. The breakfast each morning is wonderful and they have a great selection of food. I didn’t use the pool but it looked very inviting and clean. The staff are very nice and accommodating. It’s a fare walk into Florence downtown so I would cab it - so worth the money and not getting all hot and sweaty on the way down.

Beautiful View, Quiet, Not too Far from Town

Villa Tolomei gives a great Italian feel from the start when you pull into the long tree lined driveway. It is on the outside of the main city on a hill. Positive in that it is quiet, however you need a cab each way to get to the city. The staff was very friendly. Room was in good shape with a very large bathroom.

The villa gives you a quiet escape from the crowds of Florence. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. The view from the pool was amazing, and most surprisingly the restaurant was the best food we had in Italy.

Villa tollomei enjoys a beautiful location . They lack several things that a 5 star hotle should have .
Starting by the lack of air conditioning in their rooms . I’d one open the windows it is impossible to sleep with the mosquitoes . Also they are very stingy with their soap . They don’t do evening turn downs in their rooms. Overall an average experience .

Depends on what you’re looking for

Pros: clean rooms, clean & tidy grounds, hotel itself is quiet, pool area is very nice, nice views.

Cons: front desk staff speaks min English, rest of staff speaks no English, walls are very thin & while the hotel is quiet you can hear guests in the hallway. One morning a European Family with children were leaving & hollering in the hallway for 30 min. It was really frustrating. At first I thought my room was next to a staff room & they were all arriving at 7am, so I asked the front desk if that was the case I wanted to be moved & she said no it was a family checking out. I could hear the guests in the next room using the restroom. The hotel is an 8 minute drive to town center. Half the Taxi drivers grumbled when I told them that’s the destination on the way home. Unless you have endless amounts of time & leisurely schedule you’re not walking to/from hotel to town. Now, if you don’t have much of an agenda I’m sure it’s a lovely walk. It’s an uphill hike home. After walking all day & all the steps at the Duomo/Bell Tower etc the last thing I wanted was a 25 min+ uphill hike home. The phone in my room didn’t work despite the staff trying to fix it. So, calling a cab, room service, requesting a hair dryer was a pain.

I would recommend this hotel to someone who lives locally I& is looking for a weekend getaway. Someone who is looking to primarily stay at the hotel & will just be popping into town once or twice for dinner or brunch.

The best sleep I had during my whole trip

We stayed 2 nights in a Junior Suite (wish we could stay more) after a long journey before flying home. We got the best rest we had during the whole trip. The hotel is located in an olive / vineyard grove, about 20-min walk to the city center. Bedding and breakfast is of exceptional. We will certainly come back when we visit Firenze in the future.

Elegant in its simplicity

It's beautiful, classy, élégant, simple and sophisticated at the same time and very very clean. The food is divine, the wine (their own production) is also very good and the staff is very pleasant, courteous and always willing to help and accomoodate. It's quiet and relaxing and the only négative is because its location in the mountain, sometimes difficult to get to but we figured it out eventually. Would go back in a flash!

We enjoyed our stay,the hotel is lovely,staff lovely too! The only concerns we had are:
there was no one at the pool to supply towels or any other services. I know it was not the high season but we would expect at a 5 star hotel,someone would be available. We need to mention Vasilio, not sure if that's spelt correctly, from the bar and communal areas. He was absolutely fantastic with his service, it was above and beyond what was expected and we thank him very much! Also Diana for her help and information. The hotel is beautiful but some way out of Florence ( much longer walk then the hotel advertises) Perhaps a shuttle service supplied by the hotel would be very welcome,as the walk can be somewhat precarious, ( no paths and lots of hidden bends) cars driving very fast and erracticly !! The room service charge is ridiculous, 35€ per person!!!! to deliver an 18€ sandwich!!! I'm sure if the hotel was more sensible with its restaurant/ drink charges more people would be prepared to eat and drink there. No- one likes to pay silly prices no matter how wealthy! All in all,a lovely stay,a lovely hotel and lovely staff, just a few problems that need to be sorted.

Second time around!

This a great base from which to explore Tuscany with a car and Florence, by using a taxi for the 10 minute ride to town. We came for the first time soon after it opened and loved it but since then they've improved the sunbeds and provided shade round the pool making it even better. The great terrace which used to be open is now a kind of conservatory. This is probably better for visits in spring and autumn but we missed the restful outdoors in the evening for pre or post dinner drinks. The restaurant itself is a delight, looking out over distant hills.

Very civilised and sophisticated, with a very helpful staff.

Oasis right outside of Florence

I just cannot say enough great things about this hotel. The grounds were spectular, the rooms beautiful, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. When at the hotel you feel like you are in the middle of the Italian countryside but you are only a short cab ride or walk (less than 5 minute cab ride or 20 minute walk) outside of the heart of Florence. We started every morning and ended every evening by the pool which was the perfect way to cool off from the hot Italian sun. The breakfast was wonderful each morning (the eggs were amazing!) and we also enjoyed 2 fabulous dinners at hotel. You really cannot beat the amazing views from the restaurant. We were traveling with 2 small children and they were more than accommodating to our family. We couldn't have asked for a better stay in Florence!

The villa is just outside the city limits, on a modest rise above the Porta Romana. A 15 minute walk from the hotel through a shaded, beautiful and quiet but well-lit (at night) country road, gets you to the bustling centre of the Porta Romana itself, where you will find plenty of shops for necessities (bottled water, fruit, veg, snacks), several gelato places, restaurants, parks, and a taxi rank. A taxi back up the hill to the hotel from Porta Romana is under 10 euros.

We found everything we needed in the Porta Romana - it was very handy for picking up refrigerated bottled water on our way back to the hotel, or on our way into town. There's a very nice restaurant there too, serving locals - Pizzeria Antica Porta. The food there was great. Handy if you want a meal, but don't want to go all the way into town.

From Porta Romana, it's another 20 minutes or so to the Ponte Veccio.

The location of the hotel means you get clean, clear air, wonderful views over the hills, and are surrounded by countryside, and yet you're a very short walk into town. The hotel's clean and well-maintained pool was a wonderful way to cool down after a day seeing the sights in Florence, as was the air-conditioning throughout the entire building.

Our room was very comfortable, and well appointed. Everything was kept immaculately clean, and towels and soaps changed daily. Couldn't ask for more.

Staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and outgoing. A wonderful hotel!

Stunning view over Florence, classy hotel

Beautifully maintained buildings, comfortable rooms, very friendly helpful staff. A little bit out of town so need to taxi to and from Florence. Worth a visit if you want something quieter than in the city or need to park. Generally very pleasant stay.

Quality Florence Hideaway

We are 2 mature couples looking for a luxury Florence hotel that also had parking. This was it! Everything about the hotel exuded class. The gardens, restauraunt, comunal lounges and rooms were all of a high standard and well maintained.
Breakfasts were great and presented with flair, the smoked salmon was very good.
We stayed for 3 nights and dined there once and it was excellant. they recommended another very good restaurant and a local pizza place which was good value
We have stayed in many Italian 4 star hotels over the last 15 years and this was one of the best.

Hotel was excellent as far as staff , food and cleanliness. We walked every day into Florence ( 20-30 min) and back at night. Only complaint was air conditioning was shut off (Oct) and we could not open the windows because of the bugs and mosquitoes (no screens) Enjoyed our stay , will rent a car next time

5 Star luxury with amazing setting and views.

We stayed here recently for our honeymoon and were very impressed with the hotel. The layout is akin to a museum with large reception rooms filled with different art and antique style furniture. The views of the city are spectacular and the staff and service is excellent. Small niggles: food and drink menu is very expensive. A couple of drinks and a snack in the afternoon can set you back EUR 80+. Also, the shower in our room was particularly poor which was disappointing as we didn't have a bath. Overall, an excellent, luxurious experience. Definitely recommend this place.

Not near 5 star standard

Not a 5 star hotel, but a reasonably good 4 star standard. We had a junior suite which was spacious but not spotlessly clean unfortunately. Taxi into city centre varied from €15 to €40. Room service charge is absolutely extortionate. €35 per person to have something delivered to the room is scandalous. To put into context, every other hotel we stayed in Italy charged an average of €3.50 tray charge/ room service. Also there is no iron provided and they will charge ridiculously to iron your clothes for you. Would not stay in this hotel again. Found the service lacking, particularly if they think they are a five star hotel. Prior to arrival I asked the hotel to make special dinner reservations for my husbands birthday. Perhaps my requests got lost in translation as I was very disappointed with the arrangements and wish I had just done it properly myself. We also checked into the hotel on the day of his actual birthday which was obvious from his passport, any five star hotel would have made an acknowledgement of this occasion even just verbally wishing him a Happy Birthday but not the staff in Villa Tolomei

Lovely hotel just outside the bustle of Florence.

A great welcome on arrival, very friendly and helpful hotel staff. We booked through Expedia but contacted the hotel directly in advance to ask for rooms near to each other which was no problem and had been arranged.
The rooms were fantastic with nice terraces to sit out on in the evening.
The hotel location is perfect for exploring Florence and the rest of Tuscany. The pool was great with food and drinks available poolside.
Breakfast was good quality with a nice selection of options and again the staff worked tirelessly to keep on top of everyone's needs despite it being quite busy at times.
The evening restaurant may be a tad expensive for eating in every night, however the quality of the food was excellent, the best cooked veal I have ever tasted. Again the staff were super efficient, attentive and couldn't do enough for us. It would be nice to have an option of bar meals in the evening for when you do not wish to eat in the main restaurant or travel into town, however they did provide this for us on one evening when we were just too tired to go back out.
Taxi into town (Ponte Vecchio) varied from 10-15 euros depending on time of day. The walk to Ponte Vecchio was about 25mins but beware the narrow lanes around the hotel.
We stayed here for 10 days so had a good chance to get to know the hotel and we would highly recommend it for your trip to Tuscany and will definitely return. The hotel is a great combination of high quality with a very relaxed feel.

Gorgeous view! 5 star staff!

A shuttle bus up and down the hill would make this hotel even better. The bus only ran once an hour and not into the evening and taxi's were expensive.

The hotel, pool and staff were excellent! We were torn between spending time by the pool and sight seeing in Florence.

Overall an excellent hotel! 5 star! Worth the half hour walk up the hill.

Nice hotel away from the crowds

Hotel service and staff were great just had one issue as there was an event for fiat my wife and I left when we came back the valet outside the hotel kept telling to park in the street which was about 1/2 mile walk as there were about 150 cars parked in the street. We told him a few times that we were guests and showed him the keys yet he insisted we park outside the grounds of the hotel we circled around and decided we were not going to walk half a mile we went back and managed to find a space near the fat of the hotel. Other than that it was great place would stay there again staff ,food, room and location were excellent.

A lovely resort hotel in a beautiful setting.

A very enjoyable stay in a most tranquil environment. All the staff were most attentive and made our stay that little bit more pleasurable. Beds very comfortable. Rooms very clean.Pillows very soft, not comfortable. Hotel is a good walk( approx 20 mins) at a lively pace or a taxi ride into Florence. One minor downside is that the dinner menu was limited. Breakfast was very good.
This hotel is excellent for a well earned rest and the outdoor life.

Elegant and peaceful

A beautiful location not far from the city centre but set on a piece of land that overlooks part of the city. Room was amazing and breakfast was great. If you are driving - leave your car and catch a taxi as you cannot park in the city area except on Sunday's. The drive up from the main road has you looking at a building 500 years old and the frescoes on the wall and the detail in the furnishings are very good. Would happily stay here again.

A Lucky Find

We loved our stay. The service was excellent, and the villa itself was beautiful, with original art in the halls, high on a hill outside of Florence, and we got a great deal at the very last minute on your website. We booked the room at 5 pm and took a taxi there, arriving at about 6 pm the same night. The room was better than what we expected. (We were abandoning an apartment we had rented in the city. It had been a nightmare.) It is a walk to get to the city, or a ten euro taxi ride. We sometimes walked down the hill and took a cab back up after dinner. There is a cab stand about a fifteen minute down the hill from the hotel, so it is easy to walk part way and cab the rest of the way.
