Excellent property but who I have to give credit to is the receptionist Eduina who waited for me until I got to the hotel from train station. She was welcoming and gave me excellent recommendations on dining options around the hotel. As the initial face and representative of the hotel she demonstrated the high quality and excellent standards of Relais II Cestello. I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to Firenze. Thank you, Eduina!

It's in San Frediano, the best little-known district in Florence. It's ten minutes or less to everything you want to do, including museums and the train station. Eduina, the manager, was friendly and helpful. I'll never stay anyplace else in Florence.

We were greeted at the door by an energetic young women named Eduina. She quickly took our suitcases into the hotel and checked us in for a four night stay.
Each day she looked after us, She made sure all of our needs were met. Making certain our stay was comfortable. She, explaining EVERTHING there is to know and to explore the beautiful city of Florence.

I absolutely loved my stay here! It is convenient to the train station (maybe about 10 min walk) and it’s about a 15 min walk to the Ponte Vecchio, Uffizi, and maybe 20 min from the Duomo. It’s super convenient and ideal for local restaurants, gelato, and sightseeing. Eduina was amazing and helped me out with planning day trips and was super friendly and attentive. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Can’t recommend enough for a small hotel feel in a local Florence neighborhood.

My stay was amazing. The room was excellent, comfy bed, clean with a window for air. What l liked best was that this unique hotel had a fantastic host Edwina who took care of me suggesting places to go see and authentic Italian restaurants. I loved the breakfasts and chats with her and others guests. A very positive energy with great service. Thank you for a memorable experience in Florence for the first time. Terrible - great location and it ends there. Overpriced for a closet with hard beds in an unmanned lobby at night and front doors don’t work - anyone can manually push doors open…
No one is there after 7-8 pm. Party of 5 or 6 people came in and made lots of noise for an hour!
This hotel is awful!
The two receptionists were lovely.
If I wanted to complain or had an issue - there was no one to talk to.
I was not going to get up and ask those loud people to leave - so I was awake all night.
I would like a refund for the last night!
The shower is so tiny and awkward - at $300 a night I expect more. You have to carry your own luggage up two flights of stairs - everything is wrong and no Italian charm…too bad.

Staff and Service was wonderful Spotless and full of character. it has a weird entrance in between 2 nice restaurants where you must always ring a bell regardless of the time. Rooms are a bit dated which I don't really mind if everything is in good shape which it was but the bed and pillows were not great... Unless you like them hard. You can also save a fortune staying here and making a 15 minute walk to center.

I was made to feel very welcome.
Breakfast was available, no decaf tea. Lots of bread products jams and fruit.(no bananas ever.
No tissue boxes in the room so bring your own.
Single room is very small doubles are a comfortable size.
This area is no the trendy part of Florence.

Great hotel in a great location with good price.

We stayed in Relais Il Cestello for three nights. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is by the Arno river which is within 10 minutes walking to Ponte Vecchio and 20 minutes to the Duomo. There is a nearby indoor parking across the river and it takes about 5 minutes walking to get there. Overall we are satisfied with our stays in there.

However, our room had the next room's bathroom jutting into it, such that we could hear everything going on in that bathroom. The gluten free options at breakfast were also not adequate - it would be simple to make some gluten free bread available (there is a great bakery in town). Pillows were also very flat.

This hotel was amazing value for money. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic - on the bank of the Arno river and is next to a beautiful old church. It's a few minutes walk to piazza Santo Spirito, a great area with lots of bars and restaurants, and is only a short walk over the bridge to the train station.

Ok hotel. Only 10 rooms but more run down than charming. It did feel very safe as you had to be buzzed in 24 hours a day. Safe, friendly staff and the morning barista are the highlights. Mostly turned off by the bed linens. Wifi is horrible. Bathroom is dated but not moldy or disgusting. Staff friendly. Last minute booking so not sure what a good room for the money is in Florence.

One of our best hotel stays ever

This is one of the best hotel stays we have ever had. This 3-star outdid the 4-star we were in in Rome by far. The staff really cares. The hotel is lovely. The location is wonderful. Our room was comfortable. Someone is at the desk 24/7. Breakfast is typical Italian style (don't expect American spread of eggs and bacon) with croissants, jam, Nutella, fruit, meats and cheese, and espresso, coffee or cappuccino.

One thing to be aware of is the hotel is just inside the restricted driving zone so you cannot pull up in front unless you plan to use their valet parking garage service. This wasn't a problem for us as it is only a block to be outside of this zone and we found a garage there (there's also metered street parking 3 blocks away). It is just wise to know so you don't accidentally drive up to the front of the hotel. This honestly was a great location as any of the hotels in the historic area are likely within the restricted zone and some many blocks away from parking. This location being south of the river had the advantage of being so close to everything but not right in the middle of chaotic tourist areas.

And, truly, we've never experienced hotel personnel who so obviously care for all aspects of our visit -- both time within the hotel and our time visiting the city. If we are back in Florence again, this would be where we'd stay.

The hotel is in need of updating, no coffee tea facilities in the room, which is quite inconvenient, noise from a few air conditioning units of the 2 restaurants next door does not help to relax at night. Breakfast is of quite limited choice, coffee quality not what you expect in Florence.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in June 2015 at Relais Il Cestello. It is a lovely, small hotel just off the river. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners made us feel at home immediately and were very helpful with everything. Breakfast was served in the lobby and included everything we could have wanted. We were within a short walk of many of Florence's historic attractions and there were plenty of neighborhood restaurants for dinner. I would definitely recommend this hotel to travelers looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Florence.

this is similar to a LARGE BnB, located on the second floor (no elevator) the staff will drag your bag upstairs for you. the lobby/livingroom/bfastroom faces the river arno and the hall windows overlook the church roof top.
decent size room, nice bath....more than one bag open at the same time is a challenge. by morning the staff have converted the lobby to a bfast room! they offer coffee made to order NO MACHINE HERE, fruit juice, meats, cheeses, breads and cakes.
staff went out of their way to help me when the luggage storage location at Mail Box Etc on via della scale was closed the day after easter........ they kept my bag overnight without any complaint! how wonderful of them. I would return to this location. wifi signal was good, location was very close to the station if you take the direct street.......and you can drag a bag along this route. the neighborhood has some local restaurants, a few small stores and as you walk closer to the pitti palace you find much more

Nice stay. South of Arno River so less touristy. A little further (15 min walk?) to some of the main Florence sights, but it was nice that we had a less busy location to come home to. Breakfast was provided in the morning, with fresh coffee, tea, toast, fruit and yogurt, great way to start the day. Noise level at night was a little annoying at the start, with a hotel restaurant/bar next door playing loud electronic dance music around 11pm. Service was mostly very nice except for when I asked one person for help with how to buy a bus ticket and didn't have enough change, and was told to simply buy a coffee and get change. Guidebook said it would have been easier to just go to a tabacchi shop, don't know why the desk attendant couldn't have just explained that to begin with, and looked peeved when I asked about where I could find the closest tabacchi shop.

An old stage coach pension with great view on Florence

The place is very easy to find along the river flowing through Florence, on a little square and has a classic look of an ancient house. It's simple inside but just right for resting at night after a day's walk in the city. in just 10 minutes one can walk to any part of the historical Florence. The receptionist recommended a great traditional style restaurant just 2 minutes away on foot and not only the atmosphere was great but the traditional Tuscan food was delicious. Thee is also an upscale restaurant on the ground floor. Breakfast in the hotel was made of various cold dishes displayed on the counter and was just enough to get started. The room was spacious with simple wooden furniture and I enjoyed the warm bath in the evening to relax my feet. Internet worked fine everywhere.

We stayed 3 nights here, we found the staff friendly and spoke english well, be prepared to do a lot of walking, this hotel is across the riiver from the main shopping tourist area, most of the famous attractions are there as well. We had no problem with pick pockets or people harrassing you to buy something. If I were to return I would find a place closer to main shopping area. Do not go by the pictures they display on their website for the rooms, are room did not look anything like it.

Great service, nice clean and spacious rooms. Our bathroom appeared newly renovated. There are only 10 rooms in the hotel so it feels very \"bed and breakfast\" like. The location is excellent right along the river and very close to major attractions including il durmo and uffuzi museum. Breakfast included pastries, some cold cuts, juice and coffee. I would definitely stay here again if visiting Florence.

Lovely base to explore Florence

The Cestello was a wonderful place to stay for us. We were able to explore the city without feeling like we were in the center of all the hustle and bustle. The room was air conditioned and comfortable. The staff was exceptionally helpful and courteous.

Hidden away between two restaurants, the hotel's lobby is up in the second floor and there are no elevators. The rooms were small but adequate. The bathroom shower could use a little work. Ours kept getting the bathroom floor wet. There was no counter space to speak of.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if the opportunity allowed.

Room was clean, comfortable, and the staff was very hospitable. That said, I did downgrade comfort a bit because of our shower. Very strange - full tub with shower head, but only the back half of the tub had a door, leaving the front half completely open and water ending up everywhere. Not a major issue, but when I can't relax in the shower it irks me. Location wise: perfect. Just south of the river in the Oltrarno neighborhood means you're close enough to the super-touristy area for all practical needs, but you can remain just a bit removed from the massive tour groups and wander through some smaller areas if desired.

Overall it was a nice hotel with a good location. The hotel is in a good location along the river. They take your key any time you leave the hotel and give it to you when you return to go to your room. Also when my daughter, who was studying in Florence, came by and joined me for a croissant and coffee during the complimentary continental breakfast, they charged me 11 euros even though I ate nothing 2 of the 3 mornings. They also wanted a copy of her passport for her to go to my room, and seemed somewhat upset that she was visiting because I had paid for a single room. The room was small but adequate and very clean.

Decent hotel in good location

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in September while on our honeymoon. We liked the location on the other side of the Arno since it was a little more quiet but still close to everything. The hotel itself was decent and had everything we needed, including free wireless internet but was nothing special. The breakfast they provided each morning was also just okay. There is no elevator and you need to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to the lobby. The hotel staff was welcoming and receptive to requests. Our first night there the drain in our shower was backed up and not draining well. We told the staff about it in the morning and by the time we got home that day it was completely fixed. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a decent hotel at a reasonable price.

It wasn't difficult to find the hotel due to its proximity to the arno. The staff was helpful in making museum reservations. The breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary, but enough to get you through the day. The room was dusty and the linen/comforter could have used another cleaning.

Nice hotel in great location - view of the river, short walk to all the sights, big bed, great (but not cheap) restaurant downstairs, quiet location and excellent gelateria down the road. The only downside was the awful coffee at breakfast, and who cares about that when you have so many great coffee shops in a short walk. Chose to stay at this hotel on the strengths of other reviews and it did not disappoint.

Outstanding Small Hotel

Our experience at Hotel Il Relais Cestello was outstanding. The hotel only has about 10 room but was located near our son's apartment (he is studying in Florence), so that influenced our choice initially. The neighborhood is a quiet, more residential area that is not touristy but very friendly. [...] and his staff are wonderful and very helpful. You are within easy walking distance of the train station, all the museums, and right on the Arno. The free breakfast is simple, our room was large and very clean, and other than one night when there was an outdoor concert on the river, very quiet. The hotel does not have a restaurant (there is one of the first floor that we did not try). However, our son took us to several neighborhood restaurants that were outstanding and very friendly to us as tourists: Gusta Pizza, Dante's, and Mama Gina's. Every evening ends with the ringing of the bells of the Cestello Church next door. I suggest stepping out front and listen along the river - quite romantic. We would most definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for anyone wanting not only value, but more of a feel of the real Florence. You could stay downtown or to the north for more money but you won't find a better host or a more relaxed location.

The hotel room was large though quite dated.It is about a 10 minute walk to the ponte vecchio.The breakfast is very ordinary.

My new favorite hotel in Florence

Florence has always been my favorite city in Italy. This trip I was thrilled to find a wonderful hotel on the Oltrarno for a twelve-day stay. It was in a quiet piazza with good restaurants and pizzerias nearby. The walk from Ponte Vecchio and the heart of the old city was maybe ten minutes. The walk was always interesting because you have a view of at least two bridges coming and going. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit in Florence.

Great location.. Big room

We were in Florence for 2 days and 2 nights. We were very pleased with the size of our double room as it was by far the largest hotel room we had in our Europe trip. We had a great view of the river from our window and were located very close to the center of the city. Everything about our room was comfortable. We had 3 issues. One was upon arrival, you do have to carry all of your luggage up several stairs. The staff met us halfway to carry up a piece which was nice, but an elevator would be a huge help. The second issue is that our room was located right by the front desk, so we heard a lot of noise when there was any conversation outside our door. Third was we could never connect in our room to the wireless internet network they provided. We had to always go the lobby and even then it was still a really slow connection. Other than those 3, the stay was great.

Estancia muy agradable

Valeria ha logrado que nuestra corta estancia en Florencia haya sido inmejorable, nos preparó antes la habitación, nos ayudó a encontrar un aparcamiento para nuestro coche de alquiler incluyendo descuento, nos mostró como descubrir la ciudad y nos preparó un desayuno estupendo. Volvería a repetir en el mismo hotel sin duda. La habitación era muy amplia y el baño estaba muy completo.

Leider war das Hotel eine Enttäuschung. An der Recepción lagen Säcke mit der Wäsche. Das Zimmer roch nach dem Vorgänger. Parkplatz leider nicht vor Ort, aber auf der Homepage nicht mitgeteilt. War sehr lärmig auch Nachts.
