Staff was nice, the place is nice, the food is terrible here. Ordered a $65 steak at Roots Kitchen down stairs, and it was overcooked. The tacos are bland and the shells are stale. Also the adult pool closes at 6 and the swim up bar closes at 6. They start removing chairs and umbrellas around 5 at the beach, overall the place itself is nice, but the amenities and the food lack. You can find better resorts in Florida for a lot less.

The pool and beach were beautiful and the food was solid but the hotel felt very crowded throughout the week which became annoying to deal with on our vacation. We had to fight for pool and beach seats every day, deal with the pools running out of towels, and extended waits for our food to come out at dinners. The staff was very nice but just came off as being overwhelmed by the amount of people they were trying to assist.

The hotel is clean and has a nice view. That’s where the positive review ends. The hotel was PACKED for a random week in February. The staff had terrible attitudes. Simple things like no access to water near the pool and beach were problematic. It took us two days to realize there were bathrooms near the pool because there was no signage. (Can’t imagine how many people urinated in the pool- not wanting to hike back to the room! Gross) The employees didn’t want to help get out beach chairs, were horrible about giving us towels, take our towels, gave us grief self parking. Even the “pull out sofa bed” wasn’t as described. My son slept on the floor for 4 nights! They just upgraded the physical space, but it was still a terrible experience. To add to the price, it’s a 24% daily resort fee and for that you get two water bottles a day. Thanks! 🙃 Save your money and go somewhere else! (I rarely review, but this was a pretty awful stay!

We booked a family trip to Puerto Rico & confirmed a 4 -night stay at the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar, arriving Sunday evening, February 15, and departing Thursday, February 19. The entire stay was prepaid.

When we arrived at the Wyndham around 8 p.m., the lobby was full of upset families being told they no longer had rooms. Some travelers were visibly distraught, after long flights with children, while hotel staff showed little empathy. At one point, an employee even called security on a frustrated guest. Moments later, we were told that our room was also unavailable and that our only option was to move to another hotel. We waited over 2 hours while staff “assisted” other families, then were placed in a taxi around 9:30 p.m. and sent off to the other hotel.

From billing issues stemming from being forced to move to another hotel, to all of our dinner reservations and activities having to be cancelled, our pre-paid and guaranteed room never happened. We will NEVER consider ever again, the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar. Book at your own risk.

The property is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and very nice. There are a lot of restaurants and amenities. the food is good. Iguanas is EXCELLENT. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The beach is gorgeous and the pools are great. There’s an awesome water slide. The only downside is that it is very hard to find seats at the pool. I was there at 8:30am one morning and all seats were saved. The staff did a good job of removing the towels when other guests did not show up after 30 min. If you get there late expect to sit on the grass or go to the beach. The hotel is really close to luquillo kiosks and the rainforest. I recommend renting a car. There are some good places to eat at the bottom of the road and you can do quick excursions. There is an Enterprise rental on the property. Overall, highly recommend!

Room was downgraded, 2 of 3elevators broken, not enough pool towels, pool and beach chairs, dead fish on beach. Beach full of natural debris and trash. Staff does nothing to clean it. Meals take over an hour to get and are wrong 1/3rd of the time when received.
Staff was friendly, and appologetic. Inside was clean except for bird poop on balcony furniture, nice shower and bath products, in room coffee is great, bed and bedding comfortable. Thin walls didnt sleep great due to crying kids and people walking in halls. Many of the things mentioned hard to locate with many staff unhelpful as they didnt know where things were. Not worth the $ for 2 adults but very kid friendly with activities and water park features.

You only give one free bottle of water a day. The room was over $700 per day and the resort fee was another $140 a day, including the tax. For that kind of money, you could give more water. This is compounded by the fact that the first three water dispensers I found needed their filters replaced. I expect better maintenance for the kind of money you are charging.

Additionally, the ability to connect devices, like iPads, to the television was down for a significant portion of the trip, which made watching a movie in the evening much less enjoyable.

Room was very nice. I could not go in the pool which was redone and beautiful because the water was extremely cold. The pool should have been heated. Golf course while open was really unplayable as the drainage is horrible on both courses. I went thru the hassle of bringing my golf clubs and never got to play.

The cleaning staff was somewhat intrusive, as they requested us to vacate the premises twenty minutes prior to checkout and continuously knocked on the door despite the display of the privacy sign. Aside from this inconvenience, the food, cleansing services, and treatments were exemplary, warranting a five-star rating.

Pretty hotel and grounds, but LOUD. The voices and music just reverberate due to all the hard surfaces. Our room had the noisiest neighbors. One side allowed their screaming kids out on the balcony at 7AM each day waking us up. They would yell “Hi” down to the workers below. The other side had a family reunion every morning at 7:45 with LOUD voices. The hotel should have an adult-only side. The restaurants were very good, but pricey. The pool cabana price was grossly misrepresented to my friend. And the pools were cold. The beach was amazing and had complimentary chairs and umbrella. The Rain forest is so close. I recommend going more than once and take bug spray. It’s beautiful. The rooms included a small refrigerator, and the shower and bed were great! We saw a cabaret show at The Vault. It was good, but the drinks and appetizers were way too expensive. My husband played golf 4 times and liked it. My friend had a massage and said it was wonderful, but they kept trying to upsell her on add-ons. The resort fees were over $100 day and parking was $25 day. Would I go back? Maybe. It is very nice, but I felt a little too expensive for the value, but it’s also one of the best places to stay in PR. Just know you’ll pay for it.

This is a 3-star resort, but the experience did not meet expectations. The staff was not welcoming, the concierge was frequently unavailable, and beach and pool service took over two hours. The only positive service was valet and room service. The pool and beach loungers lack proper covers and are plastic. Considering we paid over $750 per room, we expected much better service and amenities

We stayed at The Rio Mar over the holidays with our 3 college aged kids. A couple things..
1. The beach is wide open and beautiful. It’s Atlantic “sand” with waves but lovely and vast. Getting a beach chair (or pool chair) was no easy feat, but we decided to buy our way out of getting up at 6am to “save chairs” by renting a beach cabana. ($200).
2. The casino is new and smoke free. (Amazing-)
3. The hotel is located close to the rainforest for hiking and great restaurants. GO/RUN to Ocean Tu’ La Mesa, a food truck/restaurant right outside of the entrance. The owner fishes that morning and cooks that evening while his wife waits tables. In high season you need to call/email for a reservation otherwise just walk in. Probably the best meal I’ve had in my life, it’s BYOB.
4. The rooms were recently renovated and really nice. Lots of high end elements, including glasses, nespresso machine, great towels and robes. (I actually went online and ordered them bc they were so fabulous.). The staff went out of their way to white glove all experiences. Very nice touches.
5. We used the newly opened Spa. It was a great massage but no actually amenities (ie sauna, hot tub, spa pool, etc-) but enjoyed it either way. The gym is next to the spa and totally sucks- lol. I assume it’s on their renovation list. (It was kind of shocking- compared to everything else)
6. Food is way expensive, but fine. Uber works easily so go off property if you can for dinner. Palio was good but too expensive.

Clean rooms. Staff needs a little more help in being courteous and knowledgeable. Drinks were on point, but the food selection was weak. Their main restaurant is Italian food, not fusion, straight up Italian. Their only restaurant that serves somewhat island food is not even near the hotel. You either have a rental to make it or sit and wait for the shuttle. The pool music needs to change or just go away. They were blasting 90’s European Techno!!! When asked to play some Island music the DJ basically told me to go pound sand somewhere else. For 3 straight days Club music.

We enjoyed our time at this resort - the rooms were nice, the pools and beach are excellent, and the food is truly superb - really, wonderful restaurants with incredible food and lovely wait staff. The only negatives: The resort is under renovation and this was not disclosed. The spa was not open, nor was the casino. This didn’t terribly affect our time there, but I don’t like that it wasn’t disclosed before or even on check-in. The other thing is the gym - some of the machines don’t work, and it’s all quite outdated in general.

Overall, I’d go back - especially once they’re done renovating.

We loved our experience at Wyndham Grand Rio Del Mar and plan to return! Beautiful resort with attentive friendly staff. The private beach is absolutely gorgeous - clean sands. Photos don’t do it justice. 20 minutes from El Yunque rainforest. Restaurants on property offered delicious menus. Service on the beach and pools. We felt very comfortable driving to local attractions although we could have spent the week just at the resort. It was a fabulous experience!

We loved our stay at Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach and Golf Resort. Although it is undergoing renovations at the moment there was plenty to do and plenty of dining choices. My husband and I stayed during the first week of December to celebrate my birthday. The property was surreal — you get breathtaking views of both the beautiful mountains and the sea. The rooms were newly renovated and gorgeous. The property was crowded. We didn’t get to use the Jacuzzis, as they were pretty full throughout our two-day stay (Weekend). The pools opened at 10 a.m., so if you’re an early bird like us, that can be inconvenient. On the bright side, the beach is right there, and you can catch a gorgeous sunrise — or if you visit during a full moon, you can enjoy the moonlight on the beach or from the hammock thoughtfully placed nearby.
We dined at Roots Coastal Kitchen (reservations recommended), where we had a delicious dinner and a warm, welcoming experience — special thanks to Chayanne R. We also dined and grabbed snacks at 5 O’Clock Somewhere; the food was pretty decent, the drinks were delicious, and the service was prompt.The location is very close to El Yunque National Forest and Fajardo Marina if you want to island-hop.

’ll start by saying the property itself was beautiful, with a secure entrance and friendly staff. However, there were several issues during my stay that made the experience less enjoyable than expected.

I reserved an Ocean View King room but was assigned what I would consider a Pool View King on the 3rd floor. While you could see small portions of the ocean, most of the view was blocked by trees and the pool’s water slides. I was offered a move to a higher floor on Monday, but since I was checking out Tuesday, it didn’t seem worthwhile to unpack and repack for just one night of the correct room type.

A few other inconveniences stood out:

The TVs are not smart TVs, so streaming wasn’t an option.

There are no microwaves in the rooms or available for guest use.

The West Wing is a far walk from both valet parking and the front desk.

The elevator in the West Wing does not have a button labeled “3”, even though my room was on the third floor. Pressing “L” took me to the correct level, which was confusing.

The phone in my room didn’t work, so I had to call the front desk using my cell phone until the phone was repaired on Monday.

On Saturday night, the power in my room went out, which added to the inconvenience.

Additionally, if you book through Expedia, be aware that the resort fees at check-in may be higher than what your reservation lists. I was told they weren’t sure why the amounts didn’t match.

Resort was very clean and the employees were very nice. Restaurants didn’t have unbelievably good food, but it was good. Chayanne R. at the roots restaurant was by far the highlight of our time there. Super cool guy and made us feel like we’re regulars. Didn’t like that the resort didn’t offer an all inclusive option, but that was very quickly eclipsed by the relaxation and escape you have. Would recommend and would go again.
