I recently stayed at this hotel and booked their most basic room, as I’ve done many times with Ibis hotels. Unfortunately, this time the experience fell short. The room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke (or something very similar), despite the hotel being non‑smoking. In the bathroom, there were several hairs left behind from a previous guest—on the walls, in the shower, and on the floor.

When I raised this with the receptionist and showed photos, she was extremely helpful and immediately upgraded me to another room. The upgraded room felt like it belonged to a completely different hotel: clean, fresh-smelling, and far better maintained. I was genuinely grateful for the quick support.

Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding the basic rooms and opting for an upgraded one—the difference in cleanliness and overall quality is significant.

On the positive side, all reception staff were friendly and approachable throughout my stay. The location is excellent: just a short walk to Bordeaux Cathedral, with two late‑opening supermarkets across the road and a tram stop offering a direct, easy link to the airport. I arrived before check‑in and the staff happily stored my bags so I could explore the city. The Wi‑Fi was reliable, and I skipped breakfast as there are plenty of great cafés nearby.

Overall, a good stay—but only if you choose an upgraded room.

Staff very helpful. Hotel in a safe location and lobby area very clean and welcoming.
Rooms a little dated in design, but overall did the job as a place to lay your head. Double bed very comfy. Pullout bed a little on the small side, but manageable.

The hotel is very conveniently located to the city and transportation. Very close to two museums and excellent bakeries. The rooms are a bit small/cozy, but comfortable beds, clean, and quiet (double windows). If you need an extra towel, can just ask. Our room had tea & instant coffee, hot water kettle, and large water bottle to refill from dispenser in lobby area. Good stay!

Easy walk to the cathedral, tram A to the airport and several busses nearby. Close to the library.
Noise because it was next to the fire fighters station.
They offer a free drink per person at the bar if you forego the room cleaning. We took advantage of that, included wine or a beer, quite nice. The barman was also really nice to our 2 and 4 years old.
The breakfast was nice, but mobbed, the poor staff had a hard time keeping up with the supplies.
We were allowed to check out 1h late, which was appreciated.

Convenient location. Room is small and difficult to fit two large suitcases. We asked for two extra pillows the first night, but the second night they took them away. Never understood why. Also, there were used plates and glasses on two trays outside the elevators. They were left there for a whole day and the staff did not remove them.

The immediate area is a bit bland but it is only a short walk to the older and more interesting part of the city.

The listing on Expedia said they had a rooftop terrace and laundry facilities which is a large reason why we chose it over others. They did not have laundry facilities or even offer that they had cleaning services and their “rooftop terrace” was a terrace called “Rooftop” that was at ground and second level.

Enjoyed our stay immensely, staff very friendly and helpful.
Food and drink in restaurant very tasty. Used it every night of our stay it was so good! Liked the free drink offer for keeping our own room tidy!!😀
Returning next week for one night in the baby ibis next door so see how that measures up.
If we ever return to BORDEAUX it will be IBIS all the way for us.

Clean, quiet, comfortable, convenient, and eco-friendly stay! In addition: The staff were all really friendly and helpful, and they didn’t mind speaking French to me, even though I'm only an intermediate speaker. The breakfast was great, and the bar was a lovely place to have a well-made morning coffee made with a smile :)
The location is so close to a major tram line and multiple bus lines, so it's really easy to make your way anywhere from there.
Bonus: Pass on the housekeeping if you stay for 2 nights or more, and you get a free drink as an eco-friendly incentive!

Great hotel for family

After wrapping a two week trip through France, the family really enjoyed this hotel. It was large enough for three people per room and the amenities are amazing. Several tram and bus stations are nearby and it’s a very short walk to the Cathedral and other locations. If you are traveling with a group this should be on your list for places to stay in Bordeaux.

Not a good experience for Ibis Group

I stayed at an Ibis in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil before, and it was much better than this one I stayed at recently. The room was terrible, the AC was not working, and there were no face towels. Although my room was clean, I couldn't take a shower because the bath was too small for me. There were no safety handles or non-slip mats in the bathroom, which was not safe.

When we went for breakfast, I couldn't find a plate, and it seemed like others were also eating out of cereal bowls. The heating trays weren't turned on, so the bacon and scrambled eggs were cold and unappetizing. The staff didn't seem very interested in addressing the issues. Overall, I was disappointed with the experience and didn't go back for a second time.

We chose this hotel because it had parking underground. But the parking was so tight and the entrance/exit was so steep, both times we used it there were several cars trying to leave and cars coming in at the same time.
The room was very small, the space between the foot of the bed and the wall was almost too tight for any luggage to be placed on the far side of the room. There was mold in the bathroom around the tub. We asked for towels (they had only 2 body towels, no hand towels or washcloths). They replied they would bring but never did.
The included breakfast was very nice. A good variety of breads, eggs, bacon, meats and cheeses.
It was a 4 minute walk to the cathedral, and very convenient, 10 minutes to old town.

A really great budget option. Tram for the airport / getting into centre a minutes walk away. On foot about 15/20 mins to the central areas. Supermarkets just across the road. Hotel itself was clean and staff helpful. Rooms are basic but have everything you need and are clean. Our tv didn’t work and someone came up really quickly to fix it. We had breakfast included and there was a decent variety of food, more than I was expecting. Depending on the time it you went down it could be quite busy and hard to find a seat at breakfast but eventually we always got sorted. Overall really impressed with the hotel for the price and would recommend to people who want an inexpensive option when visiting Bordeaux.

Great location across from Tram A and the network of trams that takes you all over Bordeaux. Rooms were quiet, clean and fine for a few nights. Water had a slight sulfur smell, so we filled water in the lobby which had option for still or bubbles. Only small issue was the bed topper foamy that moved too easily off the mattress.

There is Ibis and Ibis. This one is at the lowest level, old, sinister, with a room like a prison cell. Improper to say the least. I understand we can’t expect much from a low cost hotel, but this is inadequate.

It's a wonder how to follow covid recommendation of changing the air in rooms. The property was close to family, where we were visiting. Everything else was disappointing. Staff were unfriendly, aggressive, offensive, not helping at all. We had two rooms, one of them were unusable, the staff at the front desk claimed, that there were no other rooms available, even though the property had a lot of vacancies. Second day, the F.Desk supervisor, were very rude, never apologize, we had to extend our stay, for one more night, since we arrived almost 2.00AM, and we could not shower. They charged us for second night, gave us €20 discount, and removed the breakfast, so wended up paying for the second night more than what we paid for the first night.
I do mot recommend this property to overseas travelers, since the staff here , have no senses to what customer service means.

You get what you pay for !

For 3 days the staff could not provide an iron to press my clothes ( even though it stated in the description it would be available). I got tired of asking 6 times a day.
Hotel reception was usually unoccupied, pretty big queues at reception just waiting for staff.
Carpet in my room was filthy and tired and the toilet door handle was broken, so the door kept opening.
And finally the aircon worked only at the minimum level, quite annoying in 35degree heat!

I guess you get what you pay for!

Is the room really clean?

In times of covid you care more abt cleanliness. You know that Ibis (especially in Frnacr) is not abt that much comfort or anything, but abt security of custom chain standards. Ok, the staff at the reception and restaurant were really trying their best, but the room cleanliness left much to be desired. I had dust and hair on the soles of my feet after walking barefoot in the room. That felt disgusting really. And when you see the cleaning ladies, do they wear gloves or masks when cleaning rooms and making your bed? No. Hotels should really concentrate on making these cleaning procedures as transparent and as regulated as possible! Especially at the times of covid.

Do not stay here if your expectations are anything other than a tiny bare bones room with an old mattress. Amenities like a tv, air conditioning, functioning lights, and a toilet and shower are true purely as a matter of fact, but in reality they are non existent for the purposes of enjoyment or relaxation for a holiday in Bordeaux.

First room we were given had a ridiculous amount of hair on the bed and walls were smudged with dirt all over. Second room was cleaner but still full of smudges and things light dirty light switches and a weakest of lighting in the rooms. The poor guy at reception was the ONLY one here in the late afternoon until the next day. How does one person answer the phone, check people in, and manage a 250 room hotel alone?! How is that a thing?

Immediately booked another hotel and taking a loss on the non-refundable second night.

You’ve been warned.

staff were great, happy, friendly. breakfast was ok, not the same as breakfasts i have had in other Ibis hotels. Breads, ham, cheese which were nice. the main problem we had with the stay was the building work going on, which again is understandable, but the mess on the floor at the main entrance every night wasn't. someone be it builders or hotel staff should have spent 10 minutes moping the entrance for the benefit of the guests.

Room included very dirty toilet, stained carpets and a piece of a plastic bottle top between the sheets and the mattress. Soundproofing so poor that we could hear couples going at it in adjacent rooms!

The lobby is being refurbished, the work had obviously stopped for the Christmas holidays and no attempt made to leave it tidy looking or particularly safe, plastic sheets taped up haphazardly and flooring partly laid then left providing trip hazards.

Been a long time since ii stayed in a hotel as poorly run and crummy as this.

The position is good relative to the core sights, about the only saving gracehe inner and outer glass entrance doors were smashed and just left.

Good location. Only a 10 minute walk to main shopping street, bars and restaurants.
Room was clean and comfortable.
Had to pay for parking.

Pleasant stay at IBIS HOTEL Bordeaux.

Our 3 day stay was pleasant.The hotel was convenient for the shops and restaurants,we did not eat at the hotel.Our room was a reasonable size and the beds very comfortable. The hotel is in need of refurbishing but overall we enjoyed staying there.We would return when we visit Bordeaux again.We found the staff pleasant.

Dining in Ibis hotel restaurant.

Dining room dinner - food crude unimaginative bland and basic. Staff girl who seemed to be in charge was very unhelpful and even agressive in her communication and guest treatment. Very negative response to questioning of any kind. This was the final evening of my stay and the only time I ate in the hotel. The experience was as bad as I have ever had.
