The hotel has been renovated and is OK. The location for people who want to enjoy the very active night life on Whyte should stay here. It is just at the edge of the most active portion, so reasonably quiet but close enough to enjoy. The crowd at night is very young as you would expect. Good location to get to the downtown and many attractions beyond Whyte.

The hotel itself was good, but the parking situation needs improvement. Staff told me which floor to use, but there were no signs showing how to actually get there. It ended up being confusing enough that I had to walk down the block to figure it out.

There should be clearer signage directing guests to the parking areas—especially for the oversized vehicle parking garage. It would also help to have proper directions on how to get to and from the garage once you’re on the property.

Overall, not a bad stay, but the lack of clear parking guidance was frustrating.

The location of Varscona Hotel is its absolute strongest asset. Being so central made exploring the area incredibly convenient; it really is the \"key\" to an stress-free trip.

Beyond the location, I was very impressed with the rooms. They have been newly renovated and feel incredibly fresh and modern.

I am highly recommending this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, updated stay in Edmonton AB. I would definitely stay here again!

This is a fine option if you need to stay near Whyte Ave or the university but it has its issues. Noise from Whyte Ave is LOUD and their air conditioning is old and often either not working or not operable until late summer.

Honestly the location of the hotel was the only good thing about this experience. The parking situation was terrible, especially having a large truck. And the staff didn’t help what so ever with it. They didn’t seem to know how to do their job properly, it was very unprofessional and rude. The room had no ventilation at all and was about 30 degrees, one of the windows wouldn’t open and was broken. I would not recommend this hotel unless you’re staying for a short amount of time or just want to be in the surrounding location.

The hotel is dated and the rooms are comparable to a Ramada or Best Western in terms of comfort. We got a thin blanket sandwiched between two fitted sheets, there was no fan in the bathroom and the shower had little water pressure. The parkade and the stairwell leading to the hotel are absolutely filthy and disgusting.

This hotel is also on a very busy stretch of Whyte Ave, with several clubs and bars in the area, so it is very busy and loud, especially on the weekend. All night, tuned cars and motorcycles were revving their engines and show boating up and down Whyte Ave. We usually sleep with the windows open, but that was absolutely impossible due to noise. There were also several parties going on in different rooms around the property. The fire alarm went off at 2 a.m. and it was a real treat to wait outside during bar close to be able to get back into the room.

Great location if you come to party, otherwise I would avoid it. The price is way too high for what you get.

Overall a good stay. Staff were excellent. Parking was pricey and the lot was somewhat sketchy in terms of people there on the weekend, however nothing happened to us or our car. Room was clean and well appointed. Location on Whyte was 5/5 with a bustling night life and plenty to do and see on foot from the hotel.

Main complaint: Room was way too warm and there was no way to cool it down. There was a letter in the room saying that the AC is turned off all winter (and apparently spring as well) and to shut the thermostat off to stop the fans from blowing heat into the room, but otherwise, if the room is too warm, sorry about your luck. We opened the windows through the day, but had to close them at night as Whyte is very noisy street (more on that later). When the desk kindly asked how our stay was going we told them it was good, except the room was too warm. They essentially repeated what the letter said. An offer for an oscillating fan or anything to move the air around would have been the right response, but no luck there. We did see a staff member with a fan on our second day. I suppose we could have asked, but it was too late by then.

As I mentioned, the location on Whyte was great but along with that was a lot of noise from the street with an endless parade of cars showing off their altered exhaust systems. I'm talking at least a dozen or more per hour.

I had an issue with my room and the staff bent over backwards to sort things out for me in a very speedy fashion.
All the staff except one were utterly fantastic. They were super friendly and made me feel valued as a customer. As well…I forgot a couple items in my room, and when I contacted them about it, they were again super friendly and followed up to let me know they’d found my items and where they would be kept until I could pick them up when I’m back in Edmonton.
The desk clerk on check in seemed to be ‘phoning it in’ but gave all the info I needed. He wasn’t rude, he just lacked enthusiasm.
Location is also fantastic and I would not hesitate to book there again.

This hotel is only for those wanting to stay on Whyte Ave, stayed here two weekends in a row and both rooms were lacking (bedding, broken coffee maker, hole in the shower wall, etc). First room was very clean but second had what appeared to be blue toothpaste on the floor and vanity. It was cleaned up with a facecloth but not what you want to see in a “clean room”.

My only issue was that, as a person with mobility issues, transitioning from the hotel to the parkade involves dime amour of stairs. Otherwise, amazing stay.

We stayed here to be near my father in the hospital. The hotel has comfortable rooms, which appear to be recently renovated and they also have excellent staff. We spent two nights here in January and this last stay was our third and fourth nights. We would definitely stay here again due to the central location to everything and the wonderful staff.

There is quite alot of street noise at night and throughout the night - at every hour from 3am...4am...5am...6am...there was a loud mechanical sounding bang (seven bang sounds). No idea what this was and there were no voices associated with it, so it didn't seem like a knocking on a door. It sounded \"interior wall or mechanical\"?? Extremely annoying and when you have to be well rested for an athletic Team Alberta tryout the next day - this was incredibly frustrating. Not impressed.

First star for staffs- friendly and accommodating and overall great.
Second star for property- clean, smells good despite the construction at the front.
Third star for room- clean and comfy.

Minus 2 star- for how uncomfortably hot the room is even when windows are open the whole time. The thermostat isn’t working so we can’t adjust how it feels in our room. We would wake up in the middle of the night sweating! It was so hot that even after shower, you’d be sweating getting dressed. I’m not even exaggerating. I would like to come back here because of how accessible it is to everything, but not sure if they’re hot all year round.

Check-in was easy and the staff were friendly. Parking was convenient with indoor access to the parkade, and the location on Whyte Ave is excellent.
However, shortly after checking into the room, my son began sneezing and within about 10 minutes started wheezing. I was also sneezing. We were only in the room for about 15 minutes before leaving for previously planned activities, and once we left the room, all symptoms went away.
We were gone for approximately five hours, and the moment we returned to the room, the same symptoms started again for everyone. While the room itself appeared clean, there was a noticeable “dusty” feeling in the air—almost something you could taste.
Due to the reaction, we decided not to stay the night and checked out. It was disappointing given the otherwise positive first impression and great location.

We had to stay in edmonton this weekend due to my father’s hospitalization at the u of a. The front desk people were lovely to deal with. Parkade is only a 2 minute walk away and so many interesting places nearby to visit. Bed was comfortable, rooms appear to have been renovated fairly recently. We will stay here again for sure, hopefully just for fun next time.
