Great location but hotel needs updating

Great location - close to train station but the hotel is dated and needs some updating. Also the beds were hard and the AC doesn’t stay on so the rooms were stuffy and warm at night. And don’t waste your money on the breakfast if you just want coffee and some pastries. It was a true Chinese buffet with authentic dishes - not really for those of us that are used to simple breakfasts.

Close to Shin Osaka Station, the Washington Plaza Hotel is convenient to get around Osaka, Nara and Kyoto. The hotel is clean and the staff very polite and helpful.

Hotel needs to inform guests of the fact that you need to use your room key to turn lights on. We did see the card slot and inserted the room key but did not leave it in.. so no lights would come on. We went down to to the front desk and staff sent someone up, who showed us what to do. This hotel had no view at all.. window opened up to walls. I chose it because it offered a smoking room. The room did not smell like smoke. Efforts are made to run air filters.

Conveniently located hotel that smells of smoke.

Pros it’s close to Shin-Osaka station. My room was on 21st floor with an amazing view of Osaka.

The major con. My Non Smoking room smelled of cigarette smoke. I was too tired from a long flight that was delayed to change rooms. I checked out early because I couldn’t stay there. I stayed at this hotel in 2018 and I don’t remember it smelling like cigarette smoke.

Sadly, this was the worst hotel I stayed in during a 2 week trip to Japan. Bedroom was unbelievably hot & noisy. Pj’s supplied were nylon type material. Breakfast was very limited & not possible to get hot tea, even if supplying own tea bag. Not possible to have lunch in the hotel. Staff not very helpful

Convenient location about a 8-15min walk from Shin-Osaka station, easy access to convenience stores just outside the entrance of the hotel.

Room size was small as expected, what was not expected were the black mold-like dots gracing the wall of our shower. The bathroom fan in our room was either not working or very weak as well. In the room itself, some of the light/ceiling fixtures could use a refresh as they had some sort of rust/mold on the casing.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Spoke some English so no worries to travelers who don't know any Japanese.

This hotel is very clean and ideally situated near Shin-Osaka station and the local JR lines as well as the Shinkansen tracks going east toward Tokyo and west toward Himeji and Hiroshima. The hotel is immaculate without being intimidating or snobbish. It has a wonderful feel. The staff is very conscientious but not everyone is proficient at English. Nevertheless we managed and had a fun time doing so. There is WiFi in the room but I did not use it. The bathroom is immaculate.

Close by the Station; clean and convenient

The best part about this hotel is it's proximity to the Train Station. Short walk. Easy to find. Convenience Store next door has an eating bar. Nice. Also had some good micro-brews in addition to the commercial junk everyone has. I would skip the hotel breakfast and grab something next door. The room was a typical Japanese businessman's digs; comfortable but cramped. Good value though and I would stay there again.

The lobby of the hotel was very nice. The double room was small, barely big enough for the bed. I understand that tings are smaller in Japan but this room barely had enough space to get past the bed. Only the hall light worked in the bedroom and when I tried to communicate with the hotel staff to get help no one would follow. They simply handed me a desk light. I was happy to have a light that should work until I find out that the ONLY wall outlet that worked in the room had my phone plugged into it. The bed was extremely hard and the pillows were just as uncoformatable. The AC in the room worked very poorly which was fortunate because my wife and I had to use the comforter as a pillow. I am very disappointed in my stay here and will not do so again.

Basic Hotel in Shin-Osaka

Thjis hotel was disappointing. it was not the most cramped room I have endured in Osaka, that accolade remains with the Hotel Granvia above Osaka Station. However, there was only 3 haangers on which to hang your clothes and no shelves, drawers or similar - meaning that one had to keep everything packed in your suitcase.

I had concerns over cleanliness. I found 2 ladies hairclips on the floor with long black hair attached and when I put the clips on the 'desk' area, they were not removed after the next room service. I also found long black hair inside the bed-covers....must have been from the Chamber Maid and on another occasion on the bathroom floor.

I was in a rush one morning and dropped some white cotton threads from a new shirt on the carpet - these were still there when I returned that night - clearly the carpet had not been brushed or vaccumed.

Close to shin osaka station if you travel intercit

Close to shin osaka stn which is good if you travel intercity a lot. The hotel is old. It says on expedia it has a pool and gym. beware! There is no gym! This gym is old and smells old.i wouldnt stay there again there are other hotels close to shin osaka too. Not this one. Front desk staff could not speak much english. We had to keep waiting 5mins on the line because she has to ask somebody. None on them knows anything. Stay away

There was still smoke smell in the room even though it was billed as non-smoking. The light switch did not work for the main hall so had to remove the keycard and sleep the whole night. will not recommend to anyone. I called the staff on the smoke issue but was not given any response.

it was my first time to osaka. hotel is very close to shin-Osaka station.

This is like a traditional Japanese business hotel. I loved the hard bed and traditional makura hard pillow. Don't believe other reviews knocking the hotel. The lobby and room is nicer than a regular Japanese business hotel. The room was small.

Poor hospitality spirit. No accommodation besides a couple of towels. The hotel only give you one key, we protest for second key as we are 2 staid. Never provided(we staid 3nights!) House keepers are very good hard work, greet you always, but receptions are terrible. This hotel shouldn't be offered any travel industry firm. Unless this hotel offer below $50 rate unless otherwise.

My room was very clean and big (TV a bit small though for such a big room, yet not a big deal), and the view from the window was something I always enjoyed every time I stayed in this hotel.

All the staff from reception to room service were polite and helpful as expected in Japan.

5 mins walk from Shin Osaka station, great for going around Kansai area via JR as well as taking Shinkansen bullet trains. Also nearby is subway station along the Midosuji line for going around Osaka easy and quick.

- 3 encounters that the staff cannot speak English:
1) Hairdryer was not functioning. Called the front desk and the front desk say 'Sorry, no English', and hung up.
2) The next day, I went to the front desk to ask for a working hairdryer. The front desk lady stared blank into me and pick up the phone to call someone. She took 10mins trying to connect to her colleague, searching for my room's key card at the front desk (obviously it is with me as I did not hand her my key card) and turn at me asking 'which room?'. I told her I just need a hairdryer. She look blanked and do not understand what I am saying. After a minute of hand gestures, she just walk away and came back 10 minutes later with a hairdryer.
3) Request for Ta-Q-Bin to do luggage forwarding to Tokyo. Front desk staff cannot understand me.

Horrible experience. It is unacceptable that there is no one that can speak English in such a large hotel.

The hotel was excellently located and really close to Shin-Osaka station (about three minutes walk), helpful reception staff, clean and tidy, bed was a little hard, but I still slept well despite jet lag. The hotel is rather outdated. The was a minor odor in the room but I don't know what it was. I tend to think it was a smoking room at one point and the smell soaked into the walls. The mattress wasn't the greatest, kind of hard. The bathroom was good though.

Shin-Osaka: The First Train Hotel

Washington Shin Osaka is a hotel for the last or first train, but there is nothing remarkable in the neighborhood, and a taxi or train ride are needed to eat anywhere but at a convenience store; main gripe is the hotel says it has a pool, but it's just pool access at a nearby sports club for an additional charge; there are better hotels in Osaka with pools for the same or lower price. Staff did not seem particularly competent at check in.

The hotel looked amazing from the outside. Everything looked really high end. The room inside wasn't as great though. The bed was really stiff, and the tub wasn't caulked to the wall. It was okay, but it didn't match up to the hotels I had been staying in which were roughly the same budget.

I stayed the hotel with my wife and requested to have two keys but the hotel did not give us the second one for security reason. That made our day difficult as we had separate schedule during a day.

We probably got the biggest room in the hotel with 2 double beds so the room size was reasonable for a Japanese city center hotel. It is about 5 min walk from the Shin Osaka Station so we could get to most places, including Kobe, very quickly.

The hotel itself was a bit tricky to find. Had I not known japanese, and only english, I probably would have gad a tough time. Finding the shortcut from the station was the next tricky task but once you figure it out, its a piece of cake. The staff were very nice. The rooms were clean. I was very satisfied!

Hotel close to Shin-Osaka Station.

The hotel is easy to get to, near enough to walk with our suitcase. Look out for central gate and walk towards it. Go down the stairs/escalator, walk pass starbucks, go down another escalator, cross the carkpark, walk through under the highway, cross the traffic light on the left, then turn right and walk down. You will pass a 24hr mart and the hotel is just round the corner. Don't forget to buy the takoyaki on your way back at Shin-Osaka station. Also the matcha dorayaki and matcha latte at the mart was really delicious and cheap. Room clean and spacious enough for me and my mom and even though it is summer, the room was not warm at all when we got back after being ut the whole day. Service was fast too. I did not read instructions properly and did not know how to turn on the fridge, called room service and shortly after, someone came up to turn it on for me.

The bedding was extremely which was quite expected however in a much cheaper hotel I stayed at prior to Shin Osaka Washington the bedding was soft and manageable. The first day we arrived the pillow that was supplied was literally a bag of rice - terrible. When asked if I could change the pillow staff refused to supply me with another pillow repeatedly saying they had no more pillows - What kind of hotel runs out of pillows and had to wait til the next morning. They took no actions to rectify the situation leaving me with a very uncomfortable sleep for the night.

Avaerage for Japan, but close to the train station

This hotel is about average for what I have seen in Japan. The rooms are small, but not smaller than the other 4 or 5 hotels in Japan in which I have stayed. The bathrooms were standard, but nice, with a shower/tub combo, sink, and one of those nice Japanese toilet seats. You wont need to bring shampoo, conditioner, or body soap as they have a convenient dispenser in the shower. The beds and pillows are VERY firm (which I love, but I could see some people not liking). There were only 3 electrical plugs in the entire room and I found that was an issue when charging devices. The breakfast was pretty good. I have had better and I have had worse. The staff, as always for Japan, was extremely helpful and polite. Many of them spoke enough English to help with standard hotel needs. One great feature was the convenience store located in the same building. It was open 24 hours and had a fair selection of essentials. The hotel is a 5 to 10 (10 if you walk very slow or get lost) minute walk to the Shin-Osaka train station. The laundry room was the biggest disappointment. The machines are washer and dryer in one unit and they did not dry very well. It usually took 2 or 3 drying cycles to get everything dry. Also, they have laundry soap built into the machines which means that you do not need to buy any laundry soap. While this seems like a good feature, I found that the clothes did not seem to be very clean after being washed. I would have preferred to add my own soap.

We only stayed for one night as a stop over from Koyasan to Tokyo. The hotel feels quite tired and average when you walk in. It is a decent hotel, but nothing special. The rooms are tiny, the beds are tiny as well. Me and my wife were falling over luggage and other furniture. The rooms are clean and if you are staying for a stopover like us, then that's fine. On the whole a poor hotel.

If you find the right exit from shin Osaka station, it's easy to go... But if not, it takes ages to find!

Location great for traveling by Japan Rail Pass

The hotel is a five minute walk away from Shin Osaka Station. There are few restaurants in the neighborhood, but the station has many. The coffee shop across from the hotel was good for breakfast. The hotel had hard pillows on the bed, but soft ones provided in the closet. There was little space in the bathroom to put toiletries. Hot pot provided came in handy to make tea since I had a sore throat.

Room for a night

No fuss hotel, good for a room with a bed. WiFi available. Bed was quite hard by American standards, pillows were firm. Room was small but enough space for luggage. Easy access to Shin-Osaka station.

Not much nearby, but close to station

A little hard to find, but once I did find it, the hotel was not a bad place to stay a couple nights in Osaka. Less than 10 minutes from the JR Shin-Osaka station, which is not in a particularly well-situated neighborhood for restaurants and such. Short train or subway ride from Osaka/Umeda, or a little further away to Sannomiya, where there's plenty to choose from. Hotel itself was OK, clean, nothing special but no problems either.

Nice hotel

Nice and clean hotel with friendly staff, about 7mins walk to train station and not difficult to locate hotel from the train station,its just round the corner.

Functional

Nice, clean hotel for someone with an early Shinkansen to catch. They don't always seem to realise if you've booked for two so you may need to call down for double the supplies but all in all exactly what you need for a basic hotel.

Outstanding service

The level of service in all Japanese hotels is excellent but the Shin Osaka Washington Plaza was truly outstanding. The staff was very helpful looking up bus directions to get to the mall and made everything very easy for us.
