Always good until I showed up at the hotel when I noticed the lady was looking me up and down I showed my ID was waiting for my room and then she informed me that I'm on the DNR list I don't know what the DNR list is but she tells me I'm on it and that from the last time I stayed there now I've never stayed at this hotel the highland hotel on Van nuys or in Van nuys but I became on a do not rent list for damages done to a room that I previously rented at some point that they say I did and I for sure tell you I never rented there and I don't understand how I became on a DNR list but anyhow they denied me my room and hotels.com couldn't come up with a reason to give me back my money because see the room was paid with the social security debit card and which can't receive any kind of deposit on it from anything even a refund and so the money didn't get refunded the room never got slept in and we were stuck on the street all night long where there was no way we could be in the worst because we could not get a room and my phone when I was almost had it taken care of with the lady at hotels.com my phone died and when I called when I got my phone charged I was informed that they couldn't refund me or give me another room because it was now the next day after check out time so I didn't have a stay except we're on the street where was cold and me and my girl and I don't know what else to say it was the highland hotel thought I was a homeless person

As soon as I arrived I realized I made the wrong reservation. Area looks unsafe with homeless people around smoking drugs and screaming in front of motel. Probably the reason why staff is on edge. Room is pretty basic, no hangers or any place to hang towels least your clothes. I booked couple of nights opting to pay at office. There is no office or lobby you check in through a window, I wanted to pay with credit and was asked for card and PIN number, I refused and ended up paying cash due to the thin glass slot. Not a safe and welcoming environment.

Door and walls were dirty. The chair at the table was filthy. No phone, no cups, no ice bucket. It was very bare. Furniture needs to be replaced. On the outside, the hotel looks okay. It seems like they remodeled the outside but nothing to inside the rooms.

Great staff. I stayed in an apt suite that had been converted into a room for rent. Roomy with a kitchen. Nice place. The planes flying overhead were noisy, but nothing can be done about that. There was a safe place to park given that the neighborhood was unsafe according to the staff.

Liked the fact that it was under surveillance cameras and there wasn't any street people hanging around outside. The manager John was a real nice guy and housekeeping left extra towels in the room without having to ask for them. Only thing about the room was there's no toilet paper dispenser or hooks to hang clothes or towels on. I would definitely consider staying at this Motel next time I'm in the area.

Worst place I've stayed in a long while. Room is dirty, with mold all around the walls. Killed three roaches in three days. The heater door was stuck so half the time we couldn't turn the heat on. Chairs were all stained with God knows what (and I don't even want to know). Horrible place.

Large rooms. Bed is ok but not very comfortable to sleep on. Cleanliness is lacking. Basic equipment like toilet paper holder isn’t present. Heater blows a musty smell when turned on. One of the cheaper places, but you may get a better experience at a similar place if you can pay a little more.

Quiet. Clean. No lamps or anything breakable but they insist on $50 deposit in case something gets broken. One entrance next to office. Exits at opposite end. You'll do a lot of walking because parking is in the rear near the exits, but the only way in is at the front of the building. No plastic cups. Ice and coffee.

It was very clean inside and out, comfortable with a great bed, both shower and bathtub, all of the imenaties such as fridge with freezer, microwave, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, free parking, and a wonderful staff! I did a reservation and upon checking in the woman walked away with my license. When she returned I asked her what that was about then a man who I presume to be the owner came and said that I had to do a hold which was fine but then said no smoking in the room which again was fine what caught me off guard was when he said if I had company in the 3 days I was there that he would keep the deposit. It was something about the way he said it that did not sit right with me. I told him that was weird and that he was giving weird vibes. Was he actively watching the guest that check in? He got upset when I told him he was being strange and said he no longer wanted to rent to me, luckily Expedia got me a better location. He then went onto say how he actively rents to people coming out of jail. I have no idea what that had to do with the conversation or transaction. It was late and it seemed that the people checking in where on the shady side so no real loss, but the owner seems to be a little on the eccentric side. I won’t be coming to rent again much better options in the area.

The hotel can’t control homeless people wandering in the parking lot, but if you let someone know, they will take care of it. Homelessness is rampant all over LA tho.

I yelled from the shower that I would be leaving in 5 minutes, but she had my bed stripped and was putting sheets on it when I came out of the bathroom, naked. I immediately put the towel around my waist and asked her to leave so I can get dressed. She left but never came back to finish cleaning the room. I even waved at her when I left the room saying it’s ok to clean now. When I returned that night, I had no pillow cases and had to use a sheet to cover the pillows. To give her the benefit of the doubt, it may have been a language barrier.

Overall a solidly good stay but there were a couple things of note that could have been improved. Despite having a shower / bath tub combo, there no way to block the tub to fill for a bath. Each night stand (2) had power outlets affixed to them but only one of the outlets / stands was operational. And there was a very noticeable dent / hole in the floor near the tv stand where it appeared something very heavy had been dropped causing the damage.

The man in the front office during check-in/check out was very nice & welcoming, hotel is gated & opens only with a room key which made me feel safer & room was very clean. I will definitely book here again in the future.

For a quick stay this place was great. The room was actually a lot more spacious than we thought it would be. It was pretty clean when we got there. What’s very convenient is there’s a lot of food options around and a grocery store at a CVS walking distance. Parking was pretty easy to and it is gated so there’s only one way in and one way out which was a little bit of a hassle but it definitely made us feel a little bit more safer, so no random people we’re getting into the building. the man at the front desk as well was very kind and very helpful.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights. I parked in the handicapped zone and on the final night a crazy man smashed my car window as well as the glass door of the hotel. There is no insurance and I was not offered any kind of compensation not even one comped night.

When you book for 10 days you have to leave on the 6th day and come back I have never heard anything so stupid in my life if you're not going to take a full reservation that you need to indicate that you only work for 6 days also there are no cups in the room they only clean every other day we are from Minnesota and my daughter is in hospice and he would not let me continue to stay there until she passed away

The room was much bigger than I was expecting for such a good deal! The owner was very friendly and we joked around when crossing paths. It's in a nice location. Right by a Starbucks. Close to Universal Studios and a very short trip to the airport.
